    I leased a 2016 Prius (2) 4 months ago due to a low lease offering and absolutely love it. it is 95% perfect for its class, price, and purpose. Never set foot in one before. The thing that puzzles me is how little Toyota is bumping the MPG number for the new Prime. I normally get a real 50-60MPG in mine, with the motor cutting in constantly. I would think the bigger Prime battery would really up the MPG. I suspect that in real driving it does.
    BTW - the dealer was showing me the Prius "C" on the lot and I spotted the gun metal gray Prius that I bought on my own. LOVED the styling. Yes, perhaps a few too many angles, and the tail lights viewed from the rear at night are silly looking (which, like my balding head I don't normally have to look at). But other than that styling is great. Seeing Prius styling haters throw up on the sidewalk at the site of my car is a bonus, really.

      The bigger battery isn't increasing the MPG spec because the gas savings you get from the initial ~25 mile of all-electric operation is being diluted by the ~615 miles of hybrid operation after the battery is drained, since they calculate MPG based upon the full ~640 mile range. If you were to drive just ~50 miles in a day, the real world miles/gallon for that day would actually be almost double the MPG spec. But then again, gas prices are really low right now, while electricity cost will be ~$1.10 on average for that 25 miles of all-electric operation. I think a lot of people would actually break even or save more money by not plugging in the car at home. Stealing electricity from retail stores would work great though.

      MANY people on fuel economy / Prius related sites such as "Fuelly" / "Prius Chat" are FREQUENTLY achieving sixty-or-MORE mpg on lengthy highway trips... LONG after the EV mode has shut off due to initial depletion of the traction battery.

    I've been trying cars out for the past three months; both hybrid and non-hybrids Here are the hybrids, in no particular order. . Camry, Prius, Prius V, Prius Prime, Ford C Max Energi, Ford Fusion Energi, Chevy Malibu, Chevy Volt, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Ionic, Kia Optima, Kia Niro. Most of these, I've tried twice, just to clarify my impressions. I tend to be an analytical buyer. So I documented all my impressions of each of these cars. I just recently tried the Prime again. I got a better feel for it. There are pros and cons, as with any other car. Many are subjective. The pluses for me apart from other cars: Good drivability, heated steering wheel, modern and somewhat functional layout, current technology safety features, driver seating comfort was
    adequate, JBL system. The minuses for me were: No sunroof option, dash layout is neither safe nor driver friendly, as it should not be all centered in the middle of the dash, gaudy white interior accents, cargo capacity compromised due to battery location.
    All that said, every hybrid is a compromise, unless you're willing to pay insane $ for a Tesla or are willing to wait until 2019-2020 for their affordable version.
    - It would be hard for me to give up a sunroof. I suppose I could do it though, as a compromise.
    - - I found myself adjusting to the dash layout on the second test drive. Do I like it? NO! But I could live with it if necessary. It’s
    just not logical for the driver to have to look at the center stack for almost all the information. Audi has it right with their new platforms. They put just about everything directly in front of the driver, including the Nav map, on a massive screen in front of the steering wheel. To me, that just makes more sense, and I think more manufacturers will eventually be incorporating a variant of this approach.
    - As far as the gaudy why interior accents go, I would immediately remove them and do a carbon fiber-like overlay to hide that nastiness.
    - The reduced cargo capacity is not a huge issue for me, as I have a huge truck for hauling anything truly big or just bulky.
    All that aside, the car I really loved the most on features and presentation was the Chevy Volt. I fell in love with the car the moment I started it up. I was really hoping that at the end of the test drive, my search would be over. However, I was extremely disappointed with the driver’s seating position and ergonomics. It was simply horrible and my back, neck, and wrists started to ache halfway through the test drive. There are several issues with this. One is that the driver’s seat was not a fully adjustable power seat, as in other Chevy products. So you are very limited there. The other issue is the relative seating height to the steering wheel height, as adjustable as that may be. It makes it impossible for some people to dial in a usable driving position. Consumer Reports even pointed this out as a Con for the Volt, in addition to expected reliability. Again, I wanted the Volt to work so bad for me, but it just failed miserably on the ergonomics front, and I had to eliminate it from the line up I was considering.
    Back to the Prime. . . . After trying out so many cars, the past several months, I have to say the Prime stands up as the best for my needs and subjective criteria. Do I like it? Yes and no. It does meet some of the things on my “wants” list, but also comes up short. However, comparatively speaking, it’s starting to stand out as the logical choice for me at the moment.

      Valdicore look...styling is subjective. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Toyota is doing something that most manufacturers are not...being daring and trying something different...they have gone vanilla with rest rest of their lineup. Anyone who has ever owned a Prius probably wanted to stand out.

    I tried both the Volt and Prime. The Volt would be my first pick based on overall impressions. However, after a few minutes of driving in that manual adjust seat, my back was in excruciating pain. There's no power seat option, and the whole ergo/seating geometry was completely off for me. It's been a week since I drove it and my back is still screwed up. I was heartbroken
    that I had to pass on the Volt. It really checked most of the boxes for me, except there was no sunroof option. So having had to write off the Volt, I tried the Prime.
    I am not a big fan of the goofy center stack dash layout concept of the Prius line in general. Frankly, its a big turn off for me, but I still need to objectively evaluate the overall car. The 11" display was certainly cool. Unfortunately, the sales-droid they assigned to me didn't know enough about it to demonstrate it in any detail or answer some of my technical questions. He had
    to go back into the dealership several times to get the answers I wanted. The screen demo in this vid was much more informative.
    Handling, acceleration, and turning radius were all good. The lane keep assist worked fine. I am not a fan of the JBL
    system they put in these Prius models. It just doesn't have clarity at the highest volumes, where I like to listen to good headbanging music. To me, the Volt had the better sound system. One of the big pluses, and a key feature I look for in cars I'm evaluating, is the heating steering wheel, which comes standard with the Advanced package.
    When you open the lift gate, you are greeted with a higher up than normal storage bed, due to the batteries residing in that area. My initial impression was that you might not even be able to stand a bag of groceries up in there, but on reflection, I think it was a matter of perspective. The Volt seemed to have more vertical space there, if I recall, but it had a much higher lip that you might be struggling with, if you are lifting in/out heavier items.
    The Prime supposedly has the highest MPGe rating in it's class, meaning the energy consumption efficiency.
    My overall side by side impressions between the two is really mixed. Since neither has an available sunroof, I'll
    leave that out of the equation.
    - Forgetting about my personal ergonomic and seating problems for a moment . . . . . For overall tech, performance, and presentation, I would lean toward the Volt. However, I would also shy away from it, given Chevy's overall ongoing quality and reliability issues across the brand. Robotic assembly may build the cars well, but that doesn't necessarily mean the design engineering will result in a car that will have minimal problems outside of the warranty. I have a lot experience in dealing with GM on warranty issues. Few have been pleasant experiences. They tend to pick and choose what warranty issues they want to address, and you need to find the right dealer to go to bat for you. One GM truck I had to get rid of because of an engine problem GM didn't care to address and the vehicle was only one year new. FYI, I currently own another GM truck, which
    has done pretty well over the years. So again, GM quality and warranty support is hit or miss.
    The Prime certainly had the tech and performance, but I liked the Volt’s road feel and sound system better. The EV range difference between the two is not an issue for me, as I’m not buying a vehicle to primarily use for EV driving and advantages. One of my hot buttons is to find a hybrid that also has a heated steering wheel. The center-centric dash layout leaves
    something to be desired, but I think that 11” screen more than makes up for it. Opinion will certainly vary on this. One thing that is a major plus for the Prime is the Toyota quality and reliability.
    So for my needs and criteria, I think the Prime would be the choice. YMMV depending on what your priorities are. In general, I would not rate one better than the other. I would say one may just have a few more pluses than the other, depending on your needs and preferences.

    • @Abeaness
      @Abeaness 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. The Volt driver seat and lack of lumbar support was one of the reasons I did not get the Volt and went with the Prius Prime instead. (Although the lumbar support in the Prime is minimal and imho still needs to be increased/enhanced.)

    If the volt was soo better how come we see taxi cab prius? I've never seen a taxi cab volt at least in Nor cal where I'm from. Also some prius taxes have hit 400k mark with minor expenses show me a volt that has put that reliable number out. Another thing I like about my 2012 prius is I can change my baby right in the back of the trunk. Try that with a volt with its concentration camp cramped up trunk. The volt is a joke. As far as looks that's a subjective subject. I think it looks amazing and that's all that matters at the end of the day. Now the 2016 prius I think it's ugly.

      @dansanger5340 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm sure it has a lot to do with reliability, but plug-in hybrids (Chevy Volt or Prius Prime) are kind of pointless on a taxi, since pure-electric mode would be exhausted very early in the day. So, on that basis alone you're better off with a regular Prius, rather than a Volt or Prime.

    • @edwardchambers3107
      @edwardchambers3107 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of that has to do with storage / cargo area. It would be virtually impossible to drive three passengers PLUS luggage to an airport in a Volt. ALSO... after depleting the EV range, the Volt would get WAY fewer miles per gallon than the Prius.
      In other words, I'm agreeing with your premise... the Prius is much better in some ways, but the Volt is also better in other ways.

    • @daviebiggions6023
      @daviebiggions6023 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their are a lot of Volts with over 300,000 miles on them and none of them have the battery problems that plagued the Prius , you build a cheap battery you expect to have to replace them . Toyota bought the market by dumping every Prius built on the US market at a loss . Now that they own the market they are moving the manufacturing to China so maybe they can sell that car at a profit instead of having to give them away .

      ***** well 25 miles are electric. this is ment more for people who use a car driving in home aerea. many use not much more than 25 miles when doing their daily things. but i wish too this car is all EV. possible that they loose custumore who want to buy a 100% EV Car. I want a 100% ev. but my need of range is home around aerea. 30 miles max. not need to drive long distane. for this i can take train as train is saver too and i don t need to consentratre on traffic.

      If you mean Toyota in general, they do have two. One is actually a hydrogen fuel cell car - the Mirai. The other is the RAV4 EV, co-developed by Tesla Motors (yep, I mean Elon Musk Tesla)

      If u manipulate the gas pedal you can get up to 70-80 mph. U can run on all electric technology is not there yet. I hate the center console in the back! Why? Makes no sense unless you're going on road trips with exactly 4 people a lot. Kills it as Lyft/Uber car.

    Acceleration on a on ramp is never from a standing start . So merging into traffic is a non issue. You always around 60 klm. Buy the time you it the actual highway you can be doing 140 KLM and then lose your license .

    I'm convinced that Toyota has a five year old with crayons designing the backs of their cars.
    The Prius has never been a good looking car but this one is ugly from the 'B' pillar back
    Their C-HR is the same. Nice looking car until you walk around the back and then you taste sick in your mouth.
    The new Lexus LC is even worse. It's a beautiful car until you walk around the back and the last thing you experience as the car pulls away is your lunch splashing your shoes.

    • @anthonyc1883
      @anthonyc1883 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rajivanan Francis How many children, how many relatives? You simply choose the car that best fits your lifestyle. For one or two two adults, it's just fine. For one or two adults going out to the movies or dinner with a couple of friends, it's fine. For one or two adults with one or two children, it's fine. If you've got three or more kids or friends to haul around, then no, this car isn't a good fit. Just buy a minivan!

      Anyone that buys a new car is an idiot , and just look at the volts for sale and the life left in that car . I bought my 13 volt and now I have 4 friends that bought used ones also . One thing you will always hear from a volt driver is how nice the Volt drives and how fast and sporty it drives . You NEVER hear that from a Prius driver and you don,t have to be embarrassed to be seen in it . It is 10 times the car as that Prius and lets be real , how often do you ever need any more space than the Volt offers
