    At the Toyota dealership and they said the filter lasts lifetime don’t need to replace. So happy I seen this video

      As long as the filter mesh doesn't get damaged somehow, these filters should indeed last the life of the car. Just blow the dirt out of them with compressed air twice a year (or more often if you live somewhere that's really dusty), and they'll last indefinitely.

    Thanks so much for this information! It's easy enough to maintain this...the hard part is finding out that you should!

    Trick with the HV battery filters...
    Vacuum from the inflow side first... If using compressed air, blow from the outflow side, pushing the dirt away from the battery cooling system.

    These are very easy to maintain. Access is easy, and removal and replace also easy; no tools needed. It helps to have an air compressor with a blow-gun attachment to blow the dust out of them. But they are kind of delicate, be careful not to punch or tear a hole in the mesh while handling them.

    I use a dryer sheet over my vent and it seems to work very well..better then the cover filter..it keeps all the dog air out of the van duct

      Did you actually get the car? How do you like it? I've had my Prime for almost 3 years, and it's amazing. Even loaded down with camping gear, with a cargo pod on the roof, I get 55mpg. Unloaded, 62mpg. If you would like to more closely monitor your Prime's performance, get a Bluetooth OBD-II scanner (about $36), which you plug into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. If you have an Android smartphone or tablet, install these three apps: CarScanner, Hybrid Assistant, and Tire Assistant. Car Scanner reads ALL of the data the car's ECM computer provides. It's $5 and worth it. Hybrid Assistant is what I use while driving: it shows a bunch of data on State of Charge of the traction battery, temperatures of the MG1 and MG2 stators, Inverters, transaxle, and engine coolant. Instantaneous power levels from the ICE and MG2 motor, and fuel consumption statistics. Tire Assistant reads the TPMS sensor data in your tires, and shows you the actual pressure in all 4 tires: no more having to get down of your hands and knees with a tire gauge.

    Thanks for the great, well informed hybrid info you provide in your videos. I have a '19 Prius Prime I bought new in June of '19. In my job as a courier it now has 197,000 miles on it (90% highway). I checked my filters for the first time after watching this video and they are clean as can be. I don't have passengers in the back seat and the seats are always down so that might have something to do with it. The main thing that blows me away is I am still rolling on the original brakes! I'm really hoping to get 500K or more on this vehicle even if that eventually means a hybrid battery replacement.

    Fantastic Video as always! Hey quick question on the RAV4 Hybrid gas tank problem as you may have heard about already. I have a 2021 Venza and in the video of your review of the Venza you mentioned it was the same as RAV4 Hybrid in many of it's components. Is the gas tank built the same as the RAV4 Hybrid? Should I worry about encountering the same issue as RAV4 Hybrid owners?

    • @TheCarCareNut
      @TheCarCareNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! So far the Venza hasn’t had any issues. Some folks have reported issues but they’re not the same. The principal symptom on the RAV4 was the inability to fill the tank and the gauge never goes to full. If you don’t have that exact issue in your Venza then you’re good and likely won’t have it.

    • @PS_SD_MAR
      @PS_SD_MAR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheCarCareNut Gotcha! I haven't had that issue. I have seen that from empty I only fuel up 11.79 gallons. I also get a range of approximately 450miles instead of the advertised 536.5 highway but I do still get the 39/41 mpg. I'll definitely pay closer attention at the pump from now on.

    What you are saying makes sense about the battery filter, but it bothers me that I don't see anything about that in the owner's manual or the maintenance guide that came with the car. Why doesn't Toyota tell us to change these filters? I have a 2017 Prius Prime plug-in with 93,000 miles. It has been very reliable with minimal maintenance required. I would have changed these filters long ago if I had known.

      @@TheCarCareNut Thanks a lot!
      I had a code C1246 (faulty master cyl pressure sensor), found a recommendation that it could be the brake light switch adjustment. Scanned with TechStream and found that pressure would go up before the switch is engaged. Adjusted, the problem disappeared for 2-3 weeks, then came back. Decided to replace the switch first - it's cheap and easy - but it did not solve the problem - the code came back. Scanned again, this time found that master cylinder pressure sensor output is 1.9v and does not change with pedal pressure.
      It seems to me that the problem is with the switch (and I even found the part) but I can't find it anywhere on the master cylinder or other components around it.
      1. Do you think it's the switch issue or could it be something else - Toyota shop manual mentions solenoid?
      2. If it's the switch, where is it located?
      3. If it's something else, what can it be?

I cleaned and replaced the filter per your video at 45000 miles (and they are super clean since I do not have pets or passengers) but I have not disassemble the backseat to vaccume and clean the fan.

    Is the 2018 prius prime, can the hatchback be adjusted for height of the opening? We already experienced the Hatchback almost getting hit by garage door in the open position and then someone presses close and well the door hit the Hatchback but we stopped it in time. I notice 2 bolts higher up on the opened Hatchback, are these to move to hydraulic shocks so Hatchback doesn't open higher?

      The powertrain in the Regular Prius and the Prius Prime Prime are not much different. The gas engine is identical. The gear ratios are slightly different because the Prime has a slightly more powerful MG2 motor. The main difference is that the Prime's traction battery has about 7 times more capacity, and it's lithium instead of NIMH. The main reason to drive a Prime is to save on fuel costs. To decide if a PHEV is right for you, either a Prius Prime or a Rav4 Prime, you should consider the following factors in the city where you live:
      1. What does regular gasoline cost? Figure your cost per mile in Hybrid mode, based on 50 mpg for a regular Prius or 55 mpg for a Prime (the Prime has better aerodynamics, and the larger battery helps it recover more energy in regen mode).
      2. What does electric power cost per kilowatt hour where you live? My Prius Prime can go about 35 miles on a 6.7 kw-hour charge. I pay 9.5¢/kw-hr if I charge between midnight and 06:00. That's 64¢ for 35 miles, or about 1.82¢/mile in EV mode. Gasoline where I live is $4.50/gallon, and the car gets 55mpg in ICE mode, which is 8.12¢/mile. So the car costs 4.5 times as much to drive on gasoline than it does electricity, where I live in California. In Honolulu, Hawaii, where electricity is 38¢/kw-hour and gasoline is $4.10, the difference is much less dramatic: 6.84¢/mile on electricity, 7.45¢/mile on gas. If you live somewhere that your electricity is less than 12¢/kw-hour, or if you have rooftop solar and can charge your car essentially for free, and gasoline is hella expensive, the Prius Prime is the way to go. But in Hawaii, or anywhere else that electric rates are steep, a Prius Prime might not save you enough on fuel to justify the higher purchase price, unless you plan to keep the car for 200,000 miles.

      @@TheCarCareNut - What would be totally awesome is a Highlander Prime or a Sequoia Prime. Either one would have substantially more carrying capacity than a Rav4 Prime, which is actually a very small car: taller than a Corolla, but no longer or wider I think. I might trade my Prius Prime for a Rav4 Prime - if this danged supply shortage ever gets fixed - but if Toyota were offering the Highlander in a PHEV version, I'd much rather have a Highlander Prime than a Rav4 Prime. Since the Highlander is already available as a Hybrid, they've already got the E-CVT for it (P-710 I think, same as the Camry and Sequoia Hybrids), they would just need to do a full under-floor lithium battery, same as the Rav4 Prime and Tesla, and revise the ECM software as needed.
