    In Japan, all cameras are legally required to make a shutter sound. This is because the Japanese government is trying to fight against upskirt photographers. It is messed up, but it was common enough in Japan that the government felt the need to put this law in place. Some smart phone companies even use the GPS on your phone to know if you are in Japan. They will force your camera's sound on when you enter the country and only turn it off when you leave.

    As a wind player, you have to be very careful elevating your instrument because as you play, saliva builds up in the instrument, and if you tilt your instrument to high, guess what's headed straight to your throat!

    • @janne7263
      @janne7263 2 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      Not saliva, unless you actually spit instead of blowing. It's condensation from the hot air hitting the colder instrument

    • @flyaround312
      @flyaround312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +106

      @@janne7263 At least some of it is saliva. Fluid droplets come out of your mouth when you blow air, not just when you intentionally spit. That's why coughing spreads airborne diseases more easily compared to exhaling from your nose with your mouth closed

      Yeah but they do not rise it up so high, I think, it is much more gentle and more left right motion than sharply high left right motion...I think it would be very difficult. I tried it once only a little swing and it so so much harder, this sharp big rapidly motions would be very difficult, almost impossible...
      For example: th-cam.com/video/DPOeGWl6x4E/w-d-xo.html yes they are moving with intstrument, but
      1) they are not moving just the instrument from left right, they are moving with
      2) the instruments are not risen up to the sky, they are just moving from left to right or vice versa...
      and that is the major difference, why is so unreal, even if ska brass players do it, because they do it naturally...

    14:28 as a trumpet player, I can tell you this is very possible. Horn flashes are pretty common in marching bands, and just to have some fun during a song. Marching band also tends to require a higher horn angle because your audience is above you. (It's super fun when the spit starts rolling back through the mouthpiece)

      I can see how challenging it is to sound good and do this crazy stuff while moving and turning as you play. You can get away with a lot of this stuff in singing so long as the movements allow the torso and windpipe to stay aligned, but then there's the issue of the vocal projection meandering, lol. Michael Jackson was a jazz dancer and developed very unique dance movements so he could dance while keeping his torso stable so that he can still sing properly.
      You can do all kinds of things with your hands and shoulders and legs, contrary to what many people think of when they visualize singing (I saw someone comment that a concert performance was fake because the guy was walking while singing, LOL).

But I remember seeing interviews about how they hired musicians to teach them the correct bowing and fingerings, correct positions for piano also. One weird thing I noticed as a percussionist: disregarding the timpani dude’s playing (is bad), he should only have 2 timpani. It’s true that we usually have 4 to 5 timpani onstage at most concerts, but this is a Beethoven only concert, and during Beethoven‘s day, there were only the two middle timpani, the 26” and the 29”. Since they only needed the middle two, why bother bringing the other two with? Timpani are heavy and cumbersome, and you never bring more than you need. Why waste energy on them just to bring them back without playing them once? Big goof

So this is pretty standard. Then, again, if the conductor says the trombones should sit at the front and the cellos next to the timpani, then that's the way they do it (not that I've seen it happen). As@@federicoandre5717said, there's no fixed rule (except that first violins go on the conductor's left).
      Second violins on the outside (at the conductor's right) was very common up until around the middle of the 20th century, and it is today more common in Europe than in the USA. (The cellos then usually go next to the first violins and the violas next to the seconds.) A lot of standard orchestral repertoire from the 18th, 19th and (early)
      20th centuries has passages that exploit the "antiphonal" arrangement of the two violin sections for special effects; these are lost in when the second violins sections are next to the first.

    Just a little basic info on Nodame Cantabile (Live Action):
    The girl listening extremely intently was Nodame, the protagonist and a gifted but lazy pianist. The conductor was Chiaki, the male lead and also an accomplished pianist. He was one of those extremely serious/intense people, and just started learning to conduct. But the first assignment he got was to work with the university's worst orchestra, the S Orchestra (a lot of the members couldn't even play in tune when they first started). All of these people were university students, not professionals (yet).
    The concertmaster was one of those typical rebels who didn't want to be restrained by the usual conventions of classical musicians (hence the attire). The group of misfits made a pact with Chiaki to add something 'extra', which is why there was all that spinning and 'interesting' poses at this first performance (also the first time he had fun conducting). The man wearing that long wig and shouting "Bravo!" in the audience was a world-class conductor (with a weird personality and many issues). Chiaki became his apprentice, and this performance was sort of a test to see if he would qualify.
    So while the critique on the technical aspects (violin-playing, conducting) were on point, the other things pointed out were completely reasonable within the context of the series. It was one of those occasions where manga/anime-style exaggerations were incorporated, but remained perfectly plausible. You can't imagine everyone acting like this. But you can easily see _these_ people behaving that way.

    • @OneWhoDreamsAwake
      @OneWhoDreamsAwake 4 ปีที่แล้ว +85

      I’m mostly just shocked that I figured all of this out based on anime tropes- like seriously guessing 80% of the plot. 😂
      I think the overall context of live-actions is very important. But it’s hard to get as big of a laugh, or a reasonable length of a video when you share all of that context. I can understand the balancing act of a TH-camr giving a reaction.

    • @user-up9ek3mc5r
      @user-up9ek3mc5r 4 ปีที่แล้ว +148

      @@OneWhoDreamsAwake Yeah, 2Set did a good job. There was nothing wrong with this video. As professional musicians, they balanced objective criticism with recognition of the effort put in by the actors. I just wanted to leave the context here for those who might be interested, or who saw the anime and never watched the original (it came out before the anime, and is, in my opinion, much better in terms of character development).
      People tend to assume that adopting anime-style things into live-action would be cringey, but this one was honestly well done. Not only was the music great, but it also showcased the real struggles musicians go through, all in a humorous way. It may not be as new and shiny as productions filmed in recent years, but it's a classic. Of all the music-themed films, TV series, and anime I've seen, this was hands down my favourite.

    • @randomme3095
      @randomme3095 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Isnt it kind of wired that the blonde guy didnt like being "restrained"? Like... why did he pick up violin and classical music let alone playing in an orchestra. He couldve chosen guitar and play in a rock band or smth.
      It is tacky and annoying to see these little "rebelious" unique attitudes and even tricks (the twists and turns of the instruments) being incorporated into something that is supposed to be already pretty meaningful and beautiful on its own with no need for these kind of acts.
      I havent read or watched anything about nodame cantabile si there might me more to it.

    • @user-up9ek3mc5r
      @user-up9ek3mc5r 4 ปีที่แล้ว +88

      @@randomme3095 What's wrong with wanting to become a classical musician but not liking stuffy clothes? Orchestral musician attire isn't just formal, it's stifling. Wearing tails, cummerbunds/waistcoats, and bowties while trying to play difficult pieces is _not_ conducive to playing well. Also, notice that this wasn't exactly a formal occasion either. They were performing in front of the school, no one else.
      And why can't rebels become classical musicians (not that there's anything wrong with rock)? Many of the best classical composers in history were rebels who went against the convention of the time, experimented with new sounds/technique, and created revolutionary pieces. Most of them weren't even remotely decorous, and did all sorts of outrageous things with their pieces, during performances, and in their daily lives.
      The concertmaster here was a classically-trained violinist who practised for years, aiming to become a classical violinist. He had to fine-tune his playing before this, but the potential was always there. The S Orchestra was filled with university students, some aiming to become professionals, some just wanting to learn music. They didn't distort the music, just designed a funny gesture that was unique to them. What's wrong with adding a bit of unnecessary but individualistic quirk? And yes, I'm a classical musician. I wholeheartedly approve of what they did in the context of the series.
      Finally, I completely agree with the last sentence of your comment.

    I've been binging your videos. I have always loved classical music but barely know anything about it. Your breakdown of the moments before the performance starts was great, it's actually one of my most favorite parts in any performance... the tuning, the silence, and then the bow-- it lets all of US "tune in" too!
