*Your lie is in april* is a great rom com anime. Its also focused towards music (piano in particular), I feel like you've seen it already, but if you haven't then please Please! I highly recommend it. Its one of the greatest anime in recent years.

I wish they make more anime like this. Diverse age and gender group: Noda and Chiaki are in their 20s while other characters are also 20s or older. They aren't stuck in one setting. Noda and Chiaki also perform and competes on different location/countries. Heavily focused on music. The main agenda on this anime is music itself. Other music related anime such as Your Lie in April are more like drama based and music is the subplot. I really love this anime.
yeah I've even heard that the director of your lie in April didn't care about classical music that much and the anime ends up feeling like its just a drama. but when watching Nodame you feel the care behind the music. In the first season of Nodame, there were a bunch of orchestra scenes with no animation at all but I was not bored and just sat there enjoying the music.
If this happened in real life the orchestra should be proud of completing such great music with a monster like Nodame on the piano. The piece is a beast in itself. Well done to the one who arranged this version
Have to say, I'm big into film, theatre, video games and of course anime, but this is actually one of my favourite moments out of anything I've seen or experienced. Just awesome, such a brilliant pay off and excellent writing. Oh and if you want the full shabang, it's called Chopin Piano Concerto No.1 E Minor and I'd recommend Evgeny Kissin's interpretation with the Israel Philharmonic. Just awesome.
@@judy-chan4536 Depends on what you're looking for from a performance I think. Argerich does an excellent rendition as well, but as much as I love her, there are parts of it I prefer in Kissin's performance. On balance, I prefer his performance as a package.
The orchestra that recorded for Nodame, as I have read is picked from the people who played in the live action and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra had some of my favourite interpretation of the pieces. I really like their Fantaisie Impromptu, simpler and melodic, their Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto no.2 is slower but heavier than the usual interpretation also resonates well.
I like this version better though. The recording quality is better too. But what a pity that the anime didn't show the complete song. It would be interesting the hear how the emotion in the music flowed
The more I hear Chiaki speak, the more triggered I get because it's as if I'm learning material in Music History. Although what he's saying would've helped me remember that Chopin is from Poland haha.

I can't comment because I only watch only half of your lie in April and drop it because it was so boring to me. Nodame not only got good humor, it also put focus on classical music aspect and the life of musicians that not a lot of people experience.
Nodame Cantabile, Sakamichi no Apollon and Sangatsu no Lion are all million times better than Your Lie in April, the reason YLiA got this famous because of the ending caught people off guard but the story and character itself is actually not that good.

is it normal for pianists to play differently during rehearsals and the actual concerto? or do they not join the rehearsals with the orchestra at all? this is the first time I've seen the anime version of nodame and the comment about playing differently didn't exist in the live action
I think because she didnt satisfy about something with the maestro at the time so she play differently but at the same time she believe the maestro can handle the change and he did. So basically there two talent. Nadome and Maestro. Both are genius so the concert went fine despite the changes. In life and action it would be hard to realize this scene hence why they didnt do the play slowly stuff. Maybe

There are hundreds of hours of rehearsals before each concert (dozens, at the very least), so any changes to the music are agreed upon and practiced by each individual performer and by the whole orchestra well in advance. There may be the odd pianist that refuses to rehearse with the whole orchestra, but in those cases it's unforgivable that they may change the tempo on their own. Orchestras (and choirs) aren't democracies; they're absolutist monarchies, and the directors are Kings.
Having rehearsals is very important, a "must" in every musical performance with others, it is not only because of a sense of duty and responsability, it is also because of meeting, knowing and understanding in a group, about getting a good emotional and social connection so that when one does something different or does a mistake, others can give a support or disguise. In other words, teamwork in many levels (that's what we can appreciate and observe when Chiaki struggles with conducting in different Orchestras, and that's why I started suspecting in Coco about the boy's idol when they said he prefered to partying in his place than rehearsing for the big show). The issue here is when you have someone very unpredictable like Nodame. And that quirk she has can be from some artists: they rehearse and play according to the rules and how everybody has agreed, but in the showtime, they decided, either by instinct or not, to play different. And the rest has to do something and think quickly so no one can easily notice.
No it is not. It is not shown here but during rehearsal because of her mood she want to play it faster and the rehearsal direction are going to follow that. The anime follow what the Manga direction and while the cut some it is still a good presentation of what being told in the original Manga. The live action straight up cut a lot of thing to fit the movie.

About Kousei, I don't doubt he is also a prodigy, but he was just finishing junior high and going to start his real musical path, so I suppose that in a few years with the right teachers, training and a better enjoyiment of life, he could play it and be a great match. About the Kousei vs Nodame, check the tvtrope Technician vs Performer. Everything depends on where and for who are playing, if it is a competence with jury, Arima wins (of course, with the right trainning and work) but if it is a recital, Nodame has more probabilities to win because she is like Kaori, very spontaneous and expressive despite being weirder than Kaori, but both value very high the love for music and life.

To be fair Chiaki played a piano concerto piece she liked with someone else... But as he said, these things are common in their world, since they were also working hard to grow their career. It's the way they came to terms with it in context of their relationship that became a problem (he rejected her proposal, she ran away avoiding him) Thank god they are still together in the end... I also understood much more rereading at their age now hahaha. What a brilliant story >
she became this desperate because Rui literally stole her one and only goals of playing piano so far and not just Rui snatch the performance with Chiaki, she also play the piece she wants _and_ play it the way Nodame would also play it. That's why she just straight up asking him to married her later that night and actually being very serious about it.

In the drama the Concerto was recorded by Lang Lang, so it’s not wonder that it’s played faster there. It’s a bad habit of Lang Lang.

I think I have the same problem as Nodame by which I mean that i'm all over the place when it comes to tempo.
I know that feel, but on the violin. Whenever a piece just ramps up my tempo ramps up as well.
