    Agreed. I've owned quite a few Marshalls. Had a Valvestate when I was a kid. Since then have had a JCM800, JCM900, Plexi, DSL,JVM and a Silver Jubilee. For me nothing beats the JVM. Silver Jubilee would be a distant second.

    I love my JVM410H - so much versatility in that head. I play it through a JCM800 Lead 1960 cab with G12 75's. I would love to play this through some greenbacks, but enjoy it with what I have. With my cover band, this amp was perfect - super clean to super distorted tones - boost, reverb - everything at your foot. Great video! You got a new sub today!

    The JVMs are by far the best amps ever, the best Marshall i've ever played is a 410c and I won't replace it for anything in the world ! If you think the jvm are rubbish you're right too : you never know what channel is ON with those ridiculous leds on the amp, you never know it when looking the pedalboard neither because there isn't any led for each button ! Nonetheless the pedalboard works great, right angle, right spacement, clever way of programming, nicely built etc. Every tone of these amps are better than any other, so when you love it, it is also the greatest ! (...and oh yes btw they're heavier than a neutron star to carry, pls be two)

      A MIDI controller eliminates the mystery of channels and modes. Marshall has never been great at making footswitches with LEDs.

    After having a slew of amps I settled on a JVM 215c. I owned a JVM 410h and 205h and have loved all of them but the 215c is a small 1 12 combo that is 50 watts and will cover everything and sounds and feels great doing it too! It’s a great amp that you can gig straight in with no pedals or you can use with all your pedals and it’s still going to sound fantastic. I’ve tried more amps but still find the JVM 215c to be the best. The next amp I want to have for awhile will be the new studio ST20 JTM. We will see if I play it or if I just go back to my JVM.

    It is an absolutely great amp. One thing I love about it is that I can get exactly the sort of Marshall gain I want, and I'm not the full-on metal level gain this amp can easily achieve, but a very solid classic rock tone with a lot of tone shaping flexibility, more so than any Marshall I've ever played including some amazing modded plexis. I've never owned a JVM but I certainly plan on it. I'm most interested in the 50-watt combo. It real can get a nice Jimmy Page kind of tone with a Les Paul or SG and that's what I'm going for. I love the warm tones you get in this vid. Fantastic.

    The factory bias settings make it sound lifeless but it’s an easy fix. Fit a set of JJ or TAD tubes and change out the speaker to a Celestion Vintage 30 or G12T 75 or whatever you prefer. I’ve had both in there and they both sound good.

    @ramilrodriguez8340 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Jack. Great tones as always!! I agree about the jvm but not the 210, the 410. Few mods and, in my opinion, the best Marshall ever. You can dial fairly close all Marshall amps tones with that amp. I used to have a jvm410h and it was great. First of all I think it has the best clean channel of any Marshall amp. You can do the plexi and 800 thing among others on channel 2. You can do high gain on channel 3. Channel 4 does metal pretty good (not my thing). I didn’t use channel 4. Lots of options on each channel, midi, adjustable reverb on all channels, etc. Very versatile. If I would like to have a Marshall amp that will be it.

    • @madeinjei
      @madeinjei ปีที่แล้ว +2

      whats wrong with the 210 IMO it does everything the 410 can just doesnt have that extra OD setting

    • @ramilrodriguez8340
      @ramilrodriguez8340 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@madeinjei the 210 has some options of the 410 clean channel and crunch channel in one channel. Right there you have three less possibilities speaking of gain structure and extra eq and reverb controls independent for clean and crunch. 210 does not have the od1 which is better voiced for classic rock and lead. The od channel on the 210 is like the 410 od2 which is better for metal. For me the lack of od1 is a deal breaker.

    • @JackFossett
      @JackFossett  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually do agree with you - the one I really wanted was the 410c, but none were available at any sort of reasonable price.

    • @madeinjei
      @madeinjei ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ramilrodriguez8340 I've honestly tested both and there is'nt much, if any, of a difference between the OD on the 210 and 410, I think at that point your really just getting into a choice overload, I've even used emulations of the 410 and I get no real tone difference, the OD2 doesnt even really become good for metal cuz it just sounds like a muddy and fuzzy mess. I think if you wanna get a good sound on and off the stage, a 210 on the OD green/orange channel with some gain and EQ adjustments, washes the 410's OD options by a land slide. Mind you the JVM is my favorite line of Amps and i've been doing research on them for the better part of 5 years. While I get what they were trying to do with JVM by making them sound like a variety of their line of amplifiers, some of their amp sounds are very lack luster like the classic JCM800, or the Plexi, and I think those two sounds I really what u start getting going into the OD2 settings, now at the end of the day its all preference, but if youre getting a 410, its to show off.

    • @ramilrodriguez8340
      @ramilrodriguez8340 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@madeinjei Great. I guess you have been using them more than I have. I had two and the second one had mercury magnetics transformers, including choke. Liked it a lot. Like I said before, I think it’s the best Marshall ever after few mods. I actually don’t think I’m getting any amp. I said if I would but, I really won’t. I’ve been building my own tube amps since 2016. I studied electronics on high school back in 1993 and then computers at university but, I’ve been working on steel structures since then. On 2016, after many years I started actually using what I learned on electronics plus what I’ve been learning on the internet lately. I started with some Ceriatone kits like the Expression, the OTS, DC 30, SSS, and AHD deluxe. Also built a Dr Z Maz 18 clone and moded Marshall. Now I have my own designed amp using what I’ve learned all these years to make the amp that goes from Fender cleans to modern high gain with lots of tweaking options to be able to dial almost any tone you want. Enjoy your jvm.

      I don’t actually disagree with you generally speaking. Marshall’s have mostly been a tone that I’ve loved listening to but never connected with playing wise. The conclusion I’ve come to is that most of the lower end consumer Marshall’s just aren’t very good. The two Marshall’s that I really love are the highest end (Bluesbreaker reissue and JVM). I think the cheaper ones are relying on the brand name to sell.

It may be considered by most as a one trick pony. It does something that my JVM cannot. Never owned a 1987X, nor a Vintage Modern yet have have the Vintage Modern cab and it is the best cab. Have a Friedman BE100 and it is glorious. If had to keep one keep my Jubilee. It accepts pedals like no other and its effects loop is the best of any amp ever owned. I have the jvm 205 h and a 1960 a cab. I am not a high gain kinda guy i am a right gain kinda guy . The jvm 205 on the clean crunch does a very convincing super lead sound on the red moder with the gain back at noon and a od pedal to tighten it all up . And ya its great to get those tones with out haveing to attenuate a older classic marshall which changes thier tone any way . The two masters on my jvm make it very practical and actually usable although when the sound guy sees ya rollin in a 4 12 cab they give ya the stink eye any way lol . I like this head and can play it at home as well . I may get a second in fact or maybe the 215c combo as a back up or fore a smaller rig . Most of the time i am playing my super sonic 22 or my 65 reissue super reverb ......my all time favorite amp......but the jvm cover all the british tones easily and scrateches that occasional marshall itch and does it well .

    If by “best Marshall [amp] ever” you mean that it’s the best for you, Jack, I would never argue. You definitely made it sing.
    My issue with Marshall in general is not that it’s a bad sound. I like it myself and have used emulations of it since I started using modeling technology. The issue I’ve got is when somebody tells me the sound that I was chasing, the Boston sound, is a one-trick pony, my attitude is that Marshall amps in general tend to be a one-trick pony. That’s not to say it’s a bad trick; it’s only that I’m one of those people that feel inundated by that sound.
    Regarding what you said about control, that is something which I wish somebody had more of in August 1999 at the site of the original Woodstock festival. During the second annual Day in the Garden extravaganza, Leslie West hit the stage with three Marshall stacks cranked to the nines and did a set which almost cost me my hearing. I had my hands over my ears the entire time he was on stage.

    I own a 205 50 watts head. Its not a Plexi but I can get really close to vintage tones. The two masters feature is a plus since I even play a 4x12 B cab at home and keep the same tone that I use on the stage. It all depends on the OHMS too. I get the best tones on a 16 OHMS cab, But when I play small clubs I use a 2x12 cab at 8 OHMS. I love the amp and is replacesable. If my handwired plexi break I am screwed. But ifa JVM goes off on the road I can always get another. So far the amp has never give me a problem. They need a BIAS since factory setting are too low. th-cam.com/video/pr5QSyQQQhU/w-d-xo.html

      Interesting as I too find the 16 ohms a big part of it. A cab with this massive old 15in and huge magnet runs only at 16. That's my secret weapon 70s sound. Not many quality heads running 16 now days.

    It's actually kind of silly when people say the Marshall super lead is the greatest amp ever because when poeple say that exactly which era of super lead are they talking about.
    The super lead had several different versions in the classic rock era . A super lead from 1970 is different from one in 1972 . A super lead from 76 is different than one from 73 an early 69 super lead is different from a 1970 super lead.
    They had many different circuit changes and they had transitional Circuits that were only used for a few months.
    Its the same when poeple say the Marshall JMP is the greatest . Well what do you mean by a JMP. A JMP super lead from 69? A 72 super lead ? A 2203? A 2204? Same with the Plexi Moniker. What do you mean by Plexi ? A JTM 45? A super lead ? Many people think any vintage Marshall head from the 60s or 70s is a plexi .
