The whole studio line and the 1987x stand out for me, never been a fan of the JVM 410.. too many switches and channels for me personally. But when it comes to versatility, I think it is one of the best amps out there.
is the JVM actually modern? it is like 17 years old... I think it is the longest ever produced Marshall amp without being modified and/or discontinued and reissued. Not bad!
I reckon it’s the most versatile Marshall kicking around. If you can’t play a gig with a JVM you’re gonna struggle. The programmable 6 way footswitch makes it a breeze
I've had the 410H since launch. It's a fantastic amp, and even my brother's Kemper hasn't convinced me to switch from this lovely analogue feeling beast.
Totally agree with you. I owned one for many years and absolutely loved it. But to offer a slightly alternate outcome, I bought a Fractal Axe FX III back in 2019. I was convinced I’d never sell the JVM but after I was able to dial in those same sounds I was loving with the physical amp, I ended up letting it go.
I personally never found the fractal able to get the same warmer tones quite right and even the kemper struggles when trying to emulate the response the JVM has (very organic). Perhaps due to doing different styles; I play a lot of older stuff. I understand the Axe FX is great for really heavy modern stuff (and so is the kemper).
I’ve been playing guitar 15 years, not well but…I remember when I was 16 years old and I tried out a JVM in the amp room at my local guitar center. I had played/owned many Valvestates and MG’s before that. Been through a ton of gear since then. To this day, that JVM was the best amp that I had ever played through in my life.
I have one and I love it. I can do anything from Hendrix to Megadeth with it, which is great since I'm nota professional musician at all (so it's nice to have an amp that basically covers it all). Great review!
Holy Mother of God…great tones all around. The setting you had at the 10:40 mark perfectly captured everything special about Marshall amps without having to keep adding pedals. Well done.
My JVM410H provides all the Marshall tones I want. If it sounds compressed, it just means you don't have enough MV. To get this amp sounding its' best, you need to open up the MV, and dial in the resonance and presence. I run it full stack with 2 Marshall 4x12 cabs. It's gonna sound great, but it's gonna be loud. My other fav amp is my Engl E651 Artist Edition 100 half stack with 2 Engl 2x12 cabs.
Something I definitely cannot do at home. So I mostly play clean tones on the amp. And just like you said, drive the MV and the amp comes more alive. I even tried out a Boutique amp that sold for €2k and I was immediately disappointed in the Boutique amp. The JVM is more aimed at the Classic rock/metal market, but still eliminated a single channel boutique amp at what it was made for. IMO it’s just the best amp ever for me.
Bravo !!! i have owned a JVM since ‘07 and watched a plethora of JVM reviews. Congratulations for this is the best of the best. Totally enjoyed the experience.
Oh and to answer the end of the video... I like the JVM on OD1 red for medium gain Heavy Rock (Gain on 10'oclock) and OD2 for saturated high gain (gain just under 2'oclock) and use a Boss Sd1 with volume at noon, drive off, tone noon. I use a Marshall 1960BX with Greenback G12M's. KILLER! I like the other channel modes for lower gain stuff but I mostly play anything from Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Judas Priest, Kiss sorta stuff up to Pantera, Metallica, Sepultura, MegaDeth, Testament stuff. Good video! thanks!
I had one for 12 years, had some mods too like the Choke and selectable Neg. Feedback. I loved it in every way but I do not gig anymore and have an Axe Fx so it was just gathering dust at home. The MIDI programming is sick, you go from Clean to Lead with almost no delay, tones are great but you do have to spend time with it because you may get similar things with Crunch and OD for example but the details make the difference. Thanks for the review 😊
Great video and amazing amp. The relay switching for all those circuits is done so well and you really do get a library of Marshall tones in one with all the bells and whistles. I do think it has a slightly tight and compressed character throughout which sounds more modern, vs the DSL which is looser and more raw. I personally prefer the rawness of the DSL between the 2. but the JVM has MANY more useful sounds and features and is a more cleverly designed amp. Keen to hear the Satriani one!
That was cool man! It’s hard to beat Marshall + Les Paul for authentic Rock tones! 😎🤘 The Strat sounded pretty sweet too though, and did love the Greco and “Bad Boys” riff…. The detuned PRS was pretty phat too. All sounded great! Love your work man! 🤩🎶🎸🤘
I love my jvm, when I first tried it I has a dsl 100 at home. The first thing I noticed was that the tone felt much more alive in the jvm. It made my dsl feel like a toy. Needless to say I bought the jvm on the spot and sold the dsl shortly after.
I've never tried the standard jvm but I've owned the js version for years now. To my ears it sounds fantastic. It pairs well with greenback cabinets as well as the common 75w celestions. I feel it benefits from a boost and I use reverb in the loop. That's it.
Having access to all the boutique brands in my Fractal had me sleeping on the modern Marshall’s. Turns out they are great for, yes, modern tones and they don’t need much tweaking to sit in a live mix. Well worth a try!
I got the 205H JVM and its crazy how much speakers matter I was using some heritage 2x12 but then changed it with my home brew cab with WGS veteran 30s and it sound so much better. Its a very vesatile amp thats for sure.. I also use a boost sd-1 for some sick 80s stype tones on the orange mode.
Joe Satriani, Zakk Wylde both love these amp's but having you run through it in this video really makes it shine man you've got the golden touch when it comes to explaining the different modes and how you dial tones in on this beast, love your work dude the first thing I did with my Boss GX-100 was download your patch presets you really know your way around a piece of kit and the fret board! Keep the content coming bro each post is thoroughly enjoyable and informative to watch, well done Martin for supplying this amazing head so Leon can demo it and make this video good onya mate you're a true blue legend
@@KEKWlfhxc666 there's an awful lot of high gain amps that with the right ratio of EQ in the effects loop you can get really amazing tones out of but this model from Marshall seems to cover so many tones of a vast amount of genres it's insane and why Marshall are at the top of the list when it comes to us guitarists and the professional players we admire and aspire to emulate
I played one of these yearssss ago when I was in my 20's and had no idea what I was doing and this sounds almost exactly how I remember it back then. So much articulation and low mid thump which I didn't appreciate at the time 😅 After that I had my heart set on a bogner uberschall as a complete gear newbie because I knew fall out boy used them lol and was sooo close to buying one but then at the last second I compared it side by side in the store to an amp I had never heard of before called a 6505+ and ended up walking out with that instead and an extra $3000 in my pocket 😂
Something I learned from the JVM, is to max out the channel volumes. To me it just sounds more alive like that, might be meat headed thinking but for me it works.
The way you had that second channel dialed in, it couldn't help but remind me of the first AC/DC album's tone - like "Stick Around" BTW Nice Sykesy era TL at the end Leon🤘
A year later, my JVM410H is as good as ever. GASing for a Splawn Quickrod 100 EL34, but playing my JVM410H again lessened the GAS. Recently added a JCM 900 SL-X 2100 5881 power tubes, and a DSL40CR. My 1959x isn't going anywhere, but my SL-X is what I play most since it arrived a few months ago. Leon, see if you can find a SL-X; I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's THE JCM 900 to own. Cheers!
I have owned my JVM 410 for 6 years and love it. With so many possible variables available on this amp, you can dial in any sound you want. It does take time learning all the variables but that's part of the fun. I use mine with the Marshall 1960 412 cabinet. It also sounds great with analogue and digital effects or experimenting with modeling profiles when set to clean mode. I have owned many amps over the decades and would love to own a large collection but since I can't, this is my favorite all in one amp since I purchased it.
Awesome review! I have had JVM 410c for 6 years. Between the 4 channels, a Les Paul, SG, Strat, and Tele… I can reach pretty much any tone for any style of music. Also, playing around with the presence and resonance can change the way the amp feels. A little trivia… James Marshall named his amps using the initials of his children. And in this case JVM stands for James, Victoria, Marshall. This is the only amp with his daughter’s initial. JTM stands for James, Terry, Marshall. (His son.) Terry decided to leave the company a while back and that his when his daughter, Victoria, took over.
Been waiting for this, and thanks. I've got the 205H version of this into a 1960B 4x12, which has been my mainstay for 7 years. It pretty much lives on OD Orange or Clean Orange with occasional forays into wilder territory. Thanks to Martin for lending this to you. It was great hearing your tones come out of this.
@@LeonTodd 50 watt 2 channel only. Clean/Crunch is shared and only one OD which is the same as OD1 on the 410. You get Crunch when you change to orange or red on the first channel. I kinda like the simplicity to be honest. I've read conflicting reports on tone quality on the 205 vs the 410, but I'm completely satisfied. I think best when using humbuckers (that Greco sounded superb). Either amp is a gain monster if you want it. I agree with your comments on OD1 vs OD2, but then I'm biased.
I used to love my JVM. You really need a decent gate like the ISP decimator in the loop to tame the red channel at high gain. It was actually your vids and channel that convinced me to go digital which I don't regret . I really don't miss lugging around my head and cabinet :-)
i love the versatility of the JVM 410 While it has some massive noise issues, theres nothing some good (well selected and high quality) tubes and a good side chain gate can't fix. when you look at pricing and have to decide between JVM and some 800 reissue it's a no-brainer. Midi capability and all the bells and whistles make it pretty much unbeatable.
Hi Todd enjoyed the video. I've been using the JVM since about 2007 as my main amp. My amp repair guy sets the plate voltage to what Marshall recommends. I use a brown box voltage at 115 volts and a Universal Audio OX. I play at church so have to use everything from delays, distortion and modulation. I use clean, crunch and OD1. Enjoyed your Kings X. I saw them at the House of Blues in Chicago around 20 years ago.
I’ve owned a bunch of Marshall’s over the years.....including DSLs, JCM 900, YJM, Vintage/Modern, JMD:1, and the JVM. I love them all for different reasons, but the Vintage/Modern and JVM are the only 2 I will not part with. The VM has the classic plexi vibe in spades and the JVM is the Swiss Army knife of killer tones that make it the ultimate gigging amp. I pair my 410h with 1960A cab with Vintage 30s and Greenbacks in an ‘X’ pattern and I smile every time I plug into it. It’s perfect. 🤘🤘
In a JVM410 212 combo I swapped the speakers out for a Celestion Classic Lead (UK made) and a Weber Direwolf. Swapped in JJ KT77 power tubes for an even bigger bass response and the amp really sounds thicker, doing leads and single runs sound bigger than before. Can't be any happier with that setup other than speaker swapping
I have been trying to find the Marshall HJS Joe Satriani version of this amp for years. I finally found one! The two favorite all time amps are my Soldano Hot Rod 25, and the amazing Marshall JVM 410 HJS. Running this pair in stereo creates pure ecstasy! Thank you for all of your first-class video productions!
That Soldano Hotrod 25 is on my wishlist. Dont hear alot of people talking about them, its always the slo100/30 people always seem to be into. The video where Mike talks about the build process and inspiration behind it is pretty cool too.
@@GabeHelma Mike Soldano's last great project was the Hot Rod 25! I have no need for a 50 watt Hot Rod+ or a 100 watt + or an SLO! The Hot Rod 25 easily duplicates the SLO at much lower volumes, and in my home studio it is perfect! The Marshall JVM HJS is the absolute best Marshall amp in my opinion. I have had all the old Super Lead and Plexi amps, but they all require an attenuator to use them in a sane methodology to get that amazing sound! The HJS can produce all of my favorite Marshall sounds in one head! It has taken me 40+ years of playing and experimenting will all brands of guitars and amps to finally understand how to get the sound that my ears and soul wanted, but seemed to never really happen. Now I only play Ibanez hollow body/semi hollow body guitars, and ESP, Charvel, and Jackson solid body guitars with a Floyd Rose tremolo. I use a Boss RV-500, a Boss SD-1, an old Ibanez Tube Screamer, and a Keeley Compressor Plus. How amazingly simple to finally hear the sound that blows my mind and nurtures my soul in ways I have always dreamed of! Combing the pedals above with the HR25 and the JVM HJS is truly a miracle sound creator. Thank you for your comment!
The JVM is a solid amp. It gets a bad wrap a bit because it is not a traditional Marshall like a plexi or 800 or even DSL. And it definitely isn't, coming from someone who builds plexi and tweed clones. But, it is a pretty well thought out circuit. There's a few good mods for it even supported by Santiall (the actual designer of the amp on the old JVM forums) that really pushed it over the top. I have one such JVM since like '07 when they mispelled "output" on the back lol. One of the OG's. And then I modded to be less gainy/more vintage feeling. It does a thing no other amp I've ever played can do. I can share these mods if y'all like.
Finally! :) So glad to actually hear this beast. My only experience is the Joe Satch sig model in Amplitube. Yeah, I'm a plugin geek. :) But even though it's a model, it's a beast that roars. The most versatile Marshall ever made. Great video!!
i was on the edge of removing the 410h from my collection, than a friend added a pot to set the negative feedback and the difference is night and day! made me keep the amp still with me. JVM and VM, to me, are the last two significant marshall amps made!
I just did a tonematch between the amp with a load and the fractal with knobs set the same and the corrective eq was very, very minimal. Cliff nailed it
Nice amp. I bought one when they first came out. All the bells and whistles. There were a couple of sounds I really liked but most were unusable to me so I got a Vintage Modern which had also just come out and it's been my go-to. The JVM is a cool amp and especially for those heavy sounds. Great demo as usual.
I have the JVM410 and I love it. Honestly it is the only Marshall amp i like for Metal because basically it doesn't sound like a classic Marshall imho, it is very versatile. My 2 cents of course :)
Man, I just bought the JVM 410h used from guitar center. As I wait, I'm watching all the videos. That OD1 orange is sounding damn good. I play 80 percent Megadeth. Although I play in a Metallica cover band once in a while with my cousins, my purpose was to finally get a versatile all tube amp. Can't wait to give it a try. Great vid
Have a JVM JS, best am I’ve ever had. Got rid of everything else. For gigging I use a FM9… guess which amp is on most of my scenes? Fractal did a fantastic job capturing the JVM JS OD channels.
Looks like you had a bit of fun dude 😁. The JS is very different... Both are great tho. Was interesting to hear it with greenbacks. Clean and crunch sound great but I reckon od1 and2 are a bit better with the AV cab. You're welcome to borrow the cab too if you like... And the DSL.. the Boogie is mint by the way 🤘
Thanks again! The JS is definitely a different animal, way more old school and "vocal" compared to the absolute filth this dishes up. Stoked to hear you're digging the Recto!
@@LeonTodd yeah the Js only looks the same on the outside. It sings with the Js1000 too. My missus is already shaking her head knowing I need to buy a recto now 😅
What's funny is that as an owner of a 2555X and JCM2000 DSL100, I love high gain Marshall sounds, but never got into the JVM. UNTILL I got the Axe FX III. I love their model of it!
... great vid of a great amp ... I like mine a lot - especially the crunch and od1 channel. When I bought it years ago I especially compared the crunch to some of the handwired one channel 'plexi wonders' of that time and found the JVM sounding and reacting just as good ... together with a delay a wah and a 2x12 cabinet of your choice it is a killer rig ... :)
how can you precisely describe the sonic differences between the regular JVM and the JS one? From an JS you can get all the same tones of a regular JVM? I'm really Interested, that amp head it's in my immediate wish list. Thanks man!
I own the jvm410hjs and is completely another amp next to the standard jvm.. Quality wise no match.. Js is the boutique version of the jvm.. Sonically.. First in the js you have 4 quality studio gates instead of reverb.. It has a chocke, smoother distortion no hiss.. And the crunch channel is Jcm800 2203.. Also the pedalboard is a great improvement.
It's a great versatile amp! Played one Live once and got pretty decent sounds out of it with nearly none tweaking. From all Marshalls i've owned or played i kept the SL2555. Pushed with an EHX Soul Food Meat Mod it sounds so great. The other amp i LOVED to play and is owned by my good friend was a Marshall 2203 with the big Gower Mod. Tested it A/B with a Cameron CCV and some Fryette and Mesa Amps and it sounded SO MASSIVE. I guess we live in a beautiful time having all those options!
I have the JS model, and I love the trade out for the gates. I compared it to my Marshall 800 studio 20, and laughed about how close they sounded. Leon' If you haven't tried. Do that comparison.
I love my jvm410h and like you mentionned, I prefer the gain level of od1 and od2 lower (around 9pm in my case) and I get quite enough overdrive to keep that lovin’ « chirping » attack. I’ll try swapping some preamp tubes to lower the gain of these and try to get more range. Od1 vs od2 differ to me in the same way as on the EVH 5150 iii between the blue and red…. In both cases I prefer the openess and sponginess of the od1/blue where the od2/red are a little too compressed and tight to mytaste but hey, that’s all preferences right ;). Great vid, thanks for the review!
'Bout time Leon. This is probably one of the most underrated hi-gain amps around. I have the 215 (chopped into just a head) 50w version going into 2 2x12s with V30s. I've tried loads of other amps but keep coming back to my JVM, the sound is awesome because it has master volume so you can get all the sound but at bedroom volume. The 50w only has OD2, so looking to get a 410. In the UK the 410 is around £1200 but you can get them 2nd hand for almost half price, what other 100w hi-gain amps can you get for that price, no brainer for me.
The blood is pumping... Noone can resist good riff played on LP through Marshal... I started to shake head on crunch channel, didn't stopped until the end on Custum! Great playing and vid
I've had a 410H since it was first released and I still really like it for it's "All in One" package. It is a very gigable unit if you're doing 60's through to 90's covers live. You mod the hell out of this amp too and get even more sounds out of it.
A JVM 415c would be so awesome. I love the four channels but like a 112 combo. No need for pedals except just for fun or extra tone shaping and the sounds are great.
I have the JVM 205C and it crushes! The only effect I use is a MXR carbon copy delay in the effects loop. The tone is killer with my EVH Wolfgang Special. Once those tubes get warmed up.... release the Kracken!
Been using this amp for the last couple of years and I love it. Versatile as all fuck, takes pedals great. With a combination of IRs it'll nail basically any tone. Sleeper OP mode is that red clean channel with a clean boost and/or stacked OD, shit sounds huge.
@Leon Todd JVM410H User here and I use a Zoom G6 in 4CM through the serial effects loop here. Gibson Flying V with Burstbucker Pro's , ESP SN-1000 Purple Blast with Seymour Duncan Pegasus and Sentient and a Schecter Sun Valley Super shredder. This head is my jam playing style varies 70's FATE, BOC, Uriah Heap, 80's Yngwie ( Work in progress :)),90s Alice In Chains,Modern Monuments style which is alot how my playings progressed. Super percussive, but I can dial it back :)
@@LeonTodd Your channel and posts really resonate with me and all you've been doing! Really great to catch up with what you're on about! You have great hands! :D) Best of luck and travels!
This was my absolute dream amp as a kid. Fast forward 15 years, and I’ve acquired many of the tones of the JVM with more amps: JCM 800 2203, JCM 900 Dual Reverb, JCM 2000 TSL. Oops!!
15 year old me - "I want an amp with 10 channels and 30 different tones" 30 year old me - "I want 30 amps with one channel each and three different tones"
The Marshall JVM 410H is a great amp that offers -many- different great or at least sounds. And I think in terms of versatility AND sound quality, the JVM has no competitor at the same price point. So, if you need or want versatility by a step on the foot switch and a full tube amp, for a price below 1500 €/US$, there is only one option: the Marshall JVM 410H. Engl and the Engl Z9 foot switch offer similar versatile amps, but at a much higher price point.
The problem with this amp is if you want a marshall that does all the tones of marshall history you will be disappointed. What it does is have 4 channels with various saturation and some cleans, but it all sounds modern. This is why friedman amps are so popular, it has a base tone thats like an old superlead and the switches to add saturation and frequences that work better with modern high gain tones. Great review and video as always.
Question regarding MIDI: does it only channel switch, or will it do modes and control settings as well? The JVMs are often compared to the 6100 35th Anniversary. Ultra-high gain is where the JVM beats out the 6100s by a wide margin. I personally prefer the 6100 EL34 crunch modes. The 6100 LM 5881 version beats it only on the clean channel. I converted my LM to KT66 tubes (had to expand bias to stop red plating), which is a MASSIVE upgrade to clean and crunch channels; then it can get 45/100 tone easily. I have another head with the EL34s. The cleans aren't as good as the one with KT66s, but it's still better clean than either model of JVM410--in my opinion. Just one thing more: Un-modding the one resistor in the 6100LM's lead channel made it useable. I further modified that channel to the EL34 spec, and now it sounds pretty good.
Very Cool, Thankyou. Amazing sounds. Only have a Marshall MG15MSii mini stack, So no tubes, sorry, but still an awesome Amp that does everything I need with close neighbors. Stunning Clean Channel and The Overdrive Channel is Amazing. And is The Coolest Looking Marshal Amp I could fit in my small house, lol. Cheers
Leon,. Have you played the Silver Jubilee reissues? I went from a DSL head to those and you can roll the gain back and clean it up and it responds better to your guitar volume. Crunchy but not too fizzy! Great demo!
Probably one of my favorite marshalls. Second only to the jmp. There are some mods I've thought about, like a choke, but.. the jvm sounds pretty damn good as is.
You don’t need a boost on OD2 but I boost with an Exotic EP Booster set at 9 o’clock. It’s just brings that channel out better than an SD-1 or TS9 and brings it together.
Funny this pops up, I'm picking up a Voodoo modded JVM 410H today, that I'm ending up through trades. I don't use the Marshall 9200 power amp much these days that I'm trading, so worth it. I used the 205C for a while, which wasn't a bad amp, just was missing some of the full 410H flavor, as I guess the gain channel was only OD2, so it was very modern. The most interesting features about the stock JVMs though, is they don't have a choke in the circuit, giving them quite a different, and unique feel.
@@LeonTodd some quick research shows that the Joe Satriani model JVM does, in fact, have a choke. So the amp overall may feel a tad different. The original design of the JVM didn't have one, as the designer felt it impacted the feel of the amp. What makes it so much easier to play, and fluid, compared to other Marshalls, where they may feel a bit stiffer, or harder to play, because of the choke.
Funny you mention the gain on OD1 - I set my Gain on 4 with OD1 Orange and it sounds so monstrous and tight 😄 Bass 3, Mid 6, Treble 2, Resonance/Presence 2/2.3 (slightly above the '2' mark)
I had one of the cobos for a couple of months back in 2019 . I had the 50 watt 1 by 12 combo and I sold it because it sounded too dark boxy muffled and almost muddy so I gave up on it . Turns out that apparently the G12B speaker is the cause of the muffled dark tone and is supposedly a bass speaker so perhaps a speaker swap would have made me love it . A Creanback H or Vintage 30 probably would have made it sound great . The 2 by 12 versions comes with a Marshall spec vintage 30 and Marshall heritage speaker which is a Marshall spec G1265 . Never tried the 2 by 12 combo but I did try the JVM 2 by 12 extension cab which which had the same speakers as the combo . Marshall vintage 30/Marshall heritage G1265 and The cab sounded fantastic so that speaker combo probably sounds great in the 2by12 .I kind of wish I had Kept the JVM 1 by 12 and put a Creamback H or M in it or a V30 because that G12B speaker pretty much sucked .
Awesome video bro! Always enjoy your Marshall videos, would love to see a video on the Marshall pedals especially the Shredmaster! Cheers from Bulgaria.
Yeah, I say the same ... Neal Schon, Satch and lots of the acts performing on the Sweden Rock festivals :) My former bandmate traded it in for a Kemper, because he didn't understand how the JVM worked ... LOL ;D
Hi Leon , your sound are not bad but you could try another pickup.I think that push not enought. You can have more overdrive with this head. For me the pickup is the source.
What's the best modern Marshall?
The whole studio line and the 1987x stand out for me, never been a fan of the JVM 410.. too many switches and channels for me personally. But when it comes to versatility, I think it is one of the best amps out there.
DSL100.... or, JCM900. You can't use this JVM without a NS-2 and need to add a cab with V30's
Does Silver jubilee count as modern?
Jvm410hjs
is the JVM actually modern? it is like 17 years old...
Those digital amps sound good but they won’t shake the floor like the JVM
I’ve been playing guitar 15 years, not well but…I remember when I was 16 years old and I tried out a JVM in the amp room at my local guitar center. I had played/owned many Valvestates and MG’s before that. Been through a ton of gear since then. To this day, that JVM was the best amp that I had ever played through in my life.
Newer Marshalls get a bad rep, but I had the same experience as you.
Martin.. You're the man sir! Thanks for letting Leon do this sir! Regards from the USA/
Well done.
Wow, thank you!
Just ordered one - can't wait to get it. The neighbors will be pissed.
Im close to order this beast as well 😎🤟
I own a JVM410h and to me it's the top high gain amp and your great review confirms to me that
Bravo !!! i have owned a JVM since ‘07 and watched a plethora of JVM reviews.
Good video! thanks!
Can't help making Leon Todd faces when you play 🙂 Thank you for your honest, unlaced reviews of gear 🙂
Versatility is the key here , I love the JVM you can play everything
Glad you liked it!! Super fun amp
That's it.
Classic amp, hang onto it!
I’ve got the combo version of jvm and I love it. Gives me everything I want. Also, I love Kings X too! Rock on brother!
Having access to all the boutique brands in my Fractal had me sleeping on the modern Marshall’s.
Turns out they are great for, yes, modern tones and they don’t need much tweaking to sit in a live mix.
Well worth a try!
Great vid mate! This is some of the best tones I’ve heard out of a JVM 🤙
Thanks brother! It really surprised me.
Alexi Laiho from CoB also used this jvm 410H amps in live and studio situations.
So much articulation and low mid thump which I didn't appreciate at the time 😅
After that I had my heart set on a bogner uberschall as a complete gear newbie because I knew fall out boy used them lol and was sooo close to buying one but then at the last second I compared it side by side in the store to an amp I had never heard of before called a 6505+ and ended up walking out with that instead and an extra $3000 in my pocket 😂
Thanks Martin and Leon ❤
Something I learned from the JVM, is to max out the channel volumes. To me it just sounds more alive like that, might be meat headed thinking but for me it works.
The Satch version is incredible if you can snake one and of course, not made anymore. Heard good things about the Malmsteen verseion too
The way you had that second channel dialed in, it couldn't help but remind me of the first AC/DC album's tone - like "Stick Around"
BTW Nice Sykesy era TL at the end Leon🤘
I like the idea of the 205H for a few reasons (fewer channels, 50w etc). Any idea on how different it is from the 410?
@@LeonTodd 50 watt 2 channel only. Clean/Crunch is shared and only one OD which is the same as OD1 on the 410. You get Crunch when you change to orange or red on the first channel. I kinda like the simplicity to be honest.
I've read conflicting reports on tone quality on the 205 vs the 410, but I'm completely satisfied. I think best when using humbuckers (that Greco sounded superb). Either amp is a gain monster if you want it. I agree with your comments on OD1 vs OD2, but then I'm biased.
@@peterharvin2775 205H/210H OD is the same as OD2 on 410H
@@EK-rw4ph Thanks for the correction. I was never completely sure TBH.
I used to love my JVM. You really need a decent gate like the ISP decimator in the loop to tame the red channel at high gain. It was actually your vids and channel that convinced me to go digital which I don't regret . I really don't miss lugging around my head and cabinet :-)
i love the versatility of the JVM 410
While it has some massive noise issues, theres nothing some good (well selected and high quality) tubes and a good side chain gate can't fix.
when you look at pricing and have to decide between JVM and some 800 reissue it's a no-brainer.
Midi capability and all the bells and whistles make it pretty much unbeatable.
LOVE the King's X at 8:00!! Ty is the man.
Great band hey. Would love to see them live.
Nice One Leon, Cheers Martin!
You gotta try it with the Negative Feeback Mod. Opens up the amp. It's a great pot-adjustable mod
Hi! What's this?
The JS is pretty cool, some very nice points of difference from this
That Soldano Hotrod 25 is on my wishlist.
I can share these mods if y'all like.
hahahah that's the stuff that makes gear fun sometimes. "how did they miss this?!"
Sykes era Thin Lizzy is underappreciated. Also I need a JVM now. Thanks Leon
Wow, sounds fantastic. Technical brilliance.
The clean channel basically makes the crunch channel not necessary, it's 3 levels make it enough
I had a JVM-205 before going Axe-Fx and loved it - really awesome sounding and flexible amp.
I just did a tonematch between the amp with a load and the fractal with knobs set the same and the corrective eq was very, very minimal. Cliff nailed it
OMG Greco sounds absolutely amazing!
The gigging and studio Marshall of Dave Mustaine during the late 2000s and early 2010s. Sick amp!
Nice amp. I bought one when they first came out. All the bells and whistles. There were a couple of sounds I really liked but most were unusable to me so I got a Vintage Modern which had also just come out and it's been my go-to. The JVM is a cool amp and especially for those heavy sounds. Great demo as usual.
a beast... I sold my faithful EVH Stealth because I was only using my JVM410 and great riffing Leon!
JVM is one of my favorite models in the Axe Fx III 🤘🤘
It's super accurate too@
Great video, Rebea used a JVM for many years before his short stint with panama and then to Victory.
I have the JVM410 and I love it. Honestly it is the only Marshall amp i like for Metal because basically it doesn't sound like a classic Marshall imho, it is very versatile. My 2 cents of course :)
Yeah OD2 is savage!
Great vid
Congrats and enjoy!
I've got the JS version and the noise gate is incredible. Voicing is a bit different too.
Crunch channel on the JS is soooo good
It sounded like it needed a gate with the SD1 especially. I’ve heard the JS version is the shit and they should’ve kept making it.
I looked high and low for the Satch version
Hold on tight just like Malmsteen sig they are hard to find!
Congrats
My missus is already shaking her head knowing I need to buy a recto now 😅
Your a good old chook Martin :P
Ill bring my 425a cab back down to the shop & convert you to the greenback life.
@@jacob_miller with the JS maybe ? Standard 410 still needs the av
What's funny is that as an owner of a 2555X and JCM2000 DSL100, I love high gain Marshall sounds, but never got into the JVM. UNTILL I got the Axe FX III. I love their model of it!
just got mine from service, after 4 months, pre circuit board failure... tomorrow is time to rock....
... great vid of a great amp ... :)
Love the dual fx loops too, so clever.
My prediction: You will love the HJS. Amazing amp, voiced a little bit differently than the standard JVM.
how can you precisely describe the sonic differences between the regular JVM and the JS one? From an JS you can get all the same tones of a regular JVM? I'm really Interested, that amp head it's in my immediate wish list. Thanks man!
@@PereRevert I‘d say the HJS is voiced a little bit darker and slightly less compressed/saturated. Great amp, I regret that I sold it.
@@Sven.Jeschke Thanks Sven!
I compared it to my Marshall 800 studio 20, and laughed
about how close they sounded.
It's cool, but to us old timers a great modern Marshall would be a Silver jubilee or a vintage modern.
How does it sound at bedroom volume? Cool sounds, I love the high end detail on some of those tones.
I have the 410 c and it sounds awesome at bedroom levels.
I use a dd3 from the boss but it's really bad, I don't know why
Been using this amp for the last couple of years and I love it. Versatile as all fuck, takes pedals great. With a combination of IRs it'll nail basically any tone. Sleeper OP mode is that red clean channel with a clean boost and/or stacked OD, shit sounds huge.
Awesome Leon! Great review on this amp and enjoyed watching you play too mate 🤙👍
Glad you enjoyed it So fun
I have owned two of the 410H heads and they are the greatest amp Marshall has ever made IMO.

I had 2 of these run parallel. It was a great outside stage gig. Plenty load.
Nice!
This was my absolute dream amp as a kid.
Fast forward 15 years, and I’ve acquired many of the tones of the JVM with more amps: JCM 800 2203, JCM 900 Dual Reverb, JCM 2000 TSL.
Oops!!
15 year old me - "I want an amp with 10 channels and 30 different tones"
30 year old me - "I want 30 amps with one channel each and three different tones"
@@LeonTodd absolutely! 😂
Would love to hear a comparison with your JCM 2000! For me I’m still leaning towards the JCM 2000 but would love to hear your thoughts Todd. Cheers.
Coming soon!
I've had both, the jcm 2000 is a better sounding Amp. Jvm is a jack of all trades, master of none.
Cheers
This was my amp before I bought the Axe FX III and the FM9
The models in those are as good as this amp imo
Jvm is such a underated amp it's still in my top 10
I used mine with a brown mod turbo tube screamer and it is absolutely filthy
Thank you Martin an Leon
Awesome tone!!! \m/
You don’t need a boost on OD2 but I boost with an Exotic EP Booster set at 9 o’clock. It’s just brings that channel out better than an SD-1 or TS9 and brings it together.
The EP booster is a gem of a pedal.
@@LeonTodd It’s my “always on” pedal.
I heard Doug Aldrich play a Brunetti the other day, sweetest tone I’ve ever heard
Doug is the man
Funny this pops up, I'm picking up a Voodoo modded JVM 410H today, that I'm ending up through trades.
The JS has a choke though right?
Thanks mate. Marshall is in my DNA from my childhood hearing my Dad crank his old 800. The enw pedals look fun!
that kings x riff still slaps after all these years
Yeah, I say the same ...
