I've listened to Sting as both a solo artist and with the Police. I gotta say, I like his stuff with the Police better. I don't know it just has different energy, perhaps Stewart and Andy added a different kind of energy and passion than Sting's current band. GOD bless.
Holy shit I can't believe it's Andy Summers. I loved the police so much...1st band that made me listen to white music. I remember I was 13 I stole Ghost in the machine. From my local library by wrapping the album around my leg...my sister put it in the oven to straighne it out....still listen to the police daily I'm 56 yo.
Andy,Stewart & Sting, I don’t think it could have worked if one of these guys was not in the Police. Just bought the albums again, great to listen to after all the years.
Wow, amazing footage of these two streching out. Stewart's time has gotten amazingly better, staying in the pocket, but giving it the fire in the groove!
They make it look super effortless!!! The best part is that they just look like they are enjoying this and let the music soar. I'm not worthy!!! Thanks for the video!!!
Wow! What a treat! You can't even find stuff like this on the extras on DVD's... I was a bit confused at one point here because they weren't showing Stewart, but it sounded like he started playing a beat with double bass. He's never played double bass.
This reminds me that Andy was supposedly originally part of Animal Logic. If Wikipedia is accurate, Andy was concerned about comparison to the Police. Who cares... It was a golden opportunity to perform new songs and to show off Stewart’s and Andy’s songwriting skills which never scratched the surface in the Police. With his vocal album Andy showed he is an excellent lyric writer. And with a permanent guitarist, AL might have been able to endure longer.

Not sure who would say this. He was a R&B blues guitarist who played with a version of The Animals. When I saw him on the reunion AS had a solo section like this...it was very impressive.

That's wasn't really Sting's doing. The Police started off by jumping the punk bandwagon, where "rockist" or "prog-like" solos were frowned upon. Thereafter, I suppose that one could argue that they became associated with New Wave, where many bands, critics and so on thought likewise. The Police format didn't really allow for long, ripping solos, since the essence of it was to distill things down to the three or four minute "pop" song - at least on record. The only occasion I know of on which Sting (and Stewart, I believe) objected to one of Andy's few LP solos was during the recording of "Omega Man". As Andy himself has said, he eventually settled on the solo that we know, which was "less hairy" than the original take(s). Moreover, I would posit that Andy is more interested in tone, textures and unusual, interesting chord phrasings than soloing - even if he can do the latter brilliantly.
Stewart Copeland addressed that point. (Paraphrasing) he said that both he and Andy would come up with songs and then Sting would present his material. Both Stewart and Andy would reply “F*ck doing our sh*t, let’s go with Stingo’s songs”
Sting probably doesn’t do soundchecks or jams in case people think The Police will get together to produce new material and taint his “Oh, so amazing solo career”.
Andy’s special famous tele was once left leaning against a boiler or something and he claimed it messed up the pickups and it never sounded the same. That was many many years ago.
-ya' know.. they made a big mistake... after Sting left the Police, Summers and Copeland should have picked up another Singer/Bassist, and formed another band
With which songs? 80/90 of Police hits belong to Sting ...You should pay him for the use eventually..The only way is to produce new material with the new frontman...But it's no longer Police...It's another band... Easier said than done

Sting without the Police is elevator music.
Too True
Agreed
At this moment Sting has some boring ( very good )musicians; he had better stayed with Andy and Stew and made new Police-work....
Andy is so good highly underrated
yesss
He's not you fking clown
He's one of Robert Fripp favorite guitar players and Steve Hackett ( ex Genesis guitar player on the 1971-1977 era Gabriel /Collins).
He is not underrated!
Can I ask your royal highness what this man would have to achieve? Think before you spout...
Andy and Stewart - without Sting or any other bass player - are better than everything in any given day’s Spotify Top 100.
Nice good to see you two together.
Two beasts, literally. Total proficiency on both their instruments. It's unreal!

Andy and Stewart are so good.

Sooooo amazing!!!!!! Andy is an incredible guitarist!
Thanks for the memorıes (1978 thru 1983) Andy!

Why these 2 didnt carry on and get just get Billy Sheehan and maybe a good singer I will never understand.
Bring in Bruno Mars or John Mayer as a replacement front man and Sting would become just another David Lee Roth
No Colin Hay would fit their sound a lot better imagine them doing 'Who could it be now' or 'Overkill' would sound amazing!
Bruno Mars' cover of So Lonely alone is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Could have added a new unknown singer and a bass player who only plays bass. A 4 or 5 piece band instead of just a 3 piece.
