- Everyone always talks about how crazy and cursed these old Nintendo commercials are but no one ever talks about WHY they're so disturbing. Join me, Jonii, as I take a look at Zelda, Mario, and Pikmin commercials from the late '90s and early '00s and try to explain what makes these advertisements tick.

I think the reason mario's model in the got milk ad is to reinforce the idea that he's from the game directly while making him more dynamic and expressive

I can explain the Mirinda commercial! It was actually made here in Mexico and aired sometime in 1999 (Fall if memory serves right), Nintendo was a HUMONGOUS deal over here at the time, so much the brand had it's own tv show called Nintendomania, which was... Imagine Nintendo Power, but as a TV show.
It is generally agreed Gus Rodriguez, the man behind Nintendomania, Club Nintendo magazine and basically introducing Nintendo to Latin America, was responsible for the commercial with assets sent by NoA, as he had really a good relationship with NoA and they would send prototype build of games to show in the show and show how big dev carts are compared to the retail version and other things for the magazine, as well as managing the creation of original commercials (like that Link one) for the region and the dubs of US Nintendo commercials.
Of course it aired later in arab regions the following year, OoT was still Nintendo's highest talked about game, and Mirinda is a pretty popular drink.
I want a Mirinda now.

Yeah, I can confirm that the Miranda commercial did air on Arabic stations at the time. We actually air commercials from other countries and slap Arabic texts on it with dialogue either subtitled or dubbed depending on who's translating the commercials.

I personally love the Singapore airlines Mario, he is one of my favorite models just because of his uniqueness
Seeing the Mario headbanging gif in high quality was an out-of-body experience.

So fun fact, when a computer is turned off or really any circuit, there is always a small amount of leakage current that happens (i.e. spontaneous discharge in capacitors or quantum tunneling in semiconductors). So in a way, Mario is never truly "off", he just rests for a while...

So, a main point of the Pikmin 2 ad that Jonii didn't mention: Its punchline is that the "pikmin" come to two dudes, who ask that they get *two hotdogs **with mustard included, and the ad read at the end highlights the feature of working with two captains in the game. It just stood out to me how the hook point of that strange ad was just "This time there are _two_ guys 😎"
I actually wanted to make a Sonic Pepsi commercial once just because we already had Mario, Link and Pac-Man in drink commercials
Also, milk DOES exist in the Mario universe because of Moo Moo Meadows from Mario Kart
Oh damn, that's another example! A friend of mine also already pointed out the milk bar in Mario Party 2.

This guy is going to be one of those TH-camrs that you’ve watched that one time and loved but never watched again to a one million subscriber channel that almost all of your friends know about. It’s crazy how much time flys for TH-camrs
They literally have Mario kart tracks in and around Moo Moo farms with LITERAL Cows (and Bulls) so if they have cows they of. corse have to have milk. Plus they mention Milk briefly at the Tea Vendor in Bowser’s inside story.
I wonder what happens to Mario when he drinks Chocolate Milk…

Waaaay too late but tbh I always liked that model of Got Milk, it looks fairly close to the N64 renders, but without the orange tan lol
Also, the Banjo one is not the model. Their actual promo models were used in the JP commercials of both Kazooie and Tooie.
Dude, I’m pretty sure the head model for the Mario Commercial is the EXACT same as the head from the title screen

the Mirinda ad was kinda cool, i loved watching that on early TH-cam as a kid.

also, that pikmin ad makes me laugh, the "hot dog!/mustard!" chants became an inside joke between my high school friends.
Ps, the Mario Headbang gif is the most Y2K image ive ever seen, and the fact that it came from an Airlines ad from Malaysia makes it even more interesting.
Link wasn't inspecting, he was saluting the boy, thus acknowledging the kid,, the fact he knows he's a game changer, and knows of the giant screen. Also Link's drink doesn't empty at all.
Seeing Mario in a stupid Milk commercial was like A huge punch to the gut for me.
Weird, I was actually scared of the Got Milk commercial as a kid, but for entirely different reasons. It was specifically Mario getting his face slammed into the block, and the kid yelling in frustration. I don't know exactly why it scared me then, but as near as I can figure, the way Mario is smacking into it so violently over and over, and the kid's voice reminding me of feeling helpless and stuck was the reason.

3rd commercial: Have Link drink milk.

Oh I remember the early years of TH-cam and there was tons of memes and YTPs of those creepy Nintendo ads everywhere
The Majora's Mask ad you showed in the outro is just bad touch all around! Its unnerving to think of a scenario where you're playing LoZ:MM and then hear a faint skull kid laugh behind you, it just makes me shudder.

Mario lived in the real world before getting to the mushroom kingdom, so he knows about milk. Also, as another person pointed out, in the Moo-Moo Farms stages of the Mario Kart series, there's cows, they should produce milk

Apart from phallic comparisons, the "inflating Mario" animation makes me think of that original Mario Party game where you inflate Bowser balloons with an air pump.

Hey there I just randomly stumbled upon your channel and noticed that you cover cursed content as a girl who was born with a multitude of disabilities such as hydrocephalus and LMC while also dealing with being in the first stage of multiple sclerosis I have become a very Worthy investigator despite all of that. Honestly long story short I was not supposed to live past the age of 2 years old I had fluid on the brain and the LMC is a brain eating bacterial disorder that I got from my father's genetics unfortunately and I also got the LMC as well as the multiple sclerosis from him as well which really sucked and it still sucks. Although some good came out of it even though the LMC was cornered because of the fluid surrounding my brain instead of getting the chance to attack my brain and killing me at the age of 2 years old it instead had nowhere to go so it would attack my retinas and severely damaged my optic nerves which like I said rendered me completely blind when I was a baby causing me to overanalyze many things because I had to use my ears as my eyes and my brain as a projector as well. It's funny after all these years I finally have a little bit of a theory about myself and the theory is, what if I'm still actually completely blind but my eyes are being powered by my brain which is the projector. You see my brain like I said before acts as a projector as well as a memory storage unit I basically am like a computer chip I'm also multi-talented not only do I have both the photographic and identic memory but I have some wicked singing and voice acting skills as well :-) I also used to do stuff like sewing and many other things too until my doctor banned me from sharp objects. She also told me I couldn't go anywhere near heights due to the fact that when I was a baby in order to drain the fluid out of me they had to install a shunt but that wasn't until after they used a pea straw which took 17 hours because they were scared they were going to collapse my brain if they went too fast but despite it I somehow managed to put a bright spin on things :-) not much gets me down in other words!

The Singapore ad looks like an early preview of Illumination’s Mario movie.
Mario probably gets most of his milk from Moomoo Meadows in Mario Kart. He didn’t have to run over any cows with his car in the real world

It's worth noting that Moo Moo Meadows is also a thing that exists for the Mario Milk commercial.
Mario does know what milk is because he and Luigi lived Brooklyn before going to the mushroom kingdom.
