Hi Jon, Do you do a video for these with grain matched so it all lines up afterwards

      Hi Andy,
there is always a problem grain matching on mills because there has to be a small tenon to join the rotating head to the body. The only way around this is to glue extra wood on to make the tenon - a lot of work to try and match 2 pieces that are normally different diameters anyway. I hope that makes sense. The short answer to your question being "no".

You mentioned corrosion due to the effect of salt on metal parts. How is your spring retainer affected? Does it not corrode? I like your kits and they look easy to fit so I'll be ordering some in the near future.

Eventually all metal corrodes but the corrosion is accelerated where salt is ground between metal parts - at least that is my understanding - you would have to consult a metallurgist for a definitive answer!

Jon Whateley yes I'm aware of that. I just wondered if you'd had any problems using a metal spring retainer in your salt mill kits.

Not as far as I am aware, we have never had any returned with a problem, there are models that have plastic spring retainers, they are generally quite a lot more difficult to fit and there is no forstner bit the correct size for them. The advantage of the metal spring retainer is that it simply slots in and fits in the central shaft with no further dimensioning or cutting - swings and roundabouts I guess!

Sounds great Jon. I'm having a bit of a break atm but I will order some kits in the next few weeks. I have a couple of design ideas in mind based on Danish designs from the 50s.

What diameter is the wood stock your starting with? Is it a 2"sq spindle blank?

Sorry I did this such a long time ago I really can't remember but I do know I only just took the corners off, could well have been 2"
