  • See how to make a 2-part antique style pepper mill kit. This is a simple but fun project kit that makes a really impressive grinder with a small box section underneath to catch the grinds that usually make a mess on the table.
NB: This model has now been updated to one with direct handle drive - the principle & method are the same.
    Kits are available here: www.prokraft.c...
Or you can watch Mike Waldt make one here: • Woodturning - Antique ...

This is a great video. I like that you don't need a jam chuck like woodcraft's video shows and having a base is a very good idea. Also settling the grinder deeper down is a good idea, I was wondering how sturdy the kit was gonna be since it seemed like the grinding would take a decent amount of force and it would only be held with 2 tiny screws, instead with your method there will be more keeping it in space.

Thank you for a really useful video, very well made, very informative, no unneccessary waffle! Good to see how to recess the mechanism. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I just got some of these pepper grinders and I'm glad I watched your video. You have a good idea in insetting the grinder mechanism into the top and you are so right in predrilling for the screws. This not only keeps the screws from breaking off but the screws have much more holding power as the threads of the screw actually cut threads into the wood similar to what a thread tap does. It also keeps the wood from possibly splitting . Thanks so much for a very informative video.

Adding to my comment below, the base for catching the pepper is also a great idea. Thanks again.

I bought one of these last week in Balboa Park in San Diego. There are shops where local artists sell their arts, there is also a woodworker shop with these. They were also inset, which I like.
I tried to mill pepper yesterday and it was very consistent!!!

I did'nt know how to finish my peppermill since I just started into turning. You have shown me how to do it without pulling what little hair I have left. I'm not sure mine is going to be as nice as your. Thanks for a great video
