Wish you had not cut out some of the turning, finishing and fitting of the pieces together for those of us that have never turned a pepper mill.

I thought, gee, I could make these as inexpensive Christmas gifts for my brothers and sister. Then I saw the boring kit alone cost $200. And the peper mill components add up to $40.

There are cheaper kits out there. You do not need a $200 boring kit. Think about alternative solutions. If it calls for a 1 1/16 hole and you have a 1" bit, you can use it and open it up with a scraper. Don't give up so easily. You can do it!

I have made quite a few over the years and agree the components are not cheap! If you only want to make a few you can find appropriate sized drills on the cheap and keep the height modest and get by fine. I often buy bargain Forstners knowing that I will have to work on them with a Dremmel to make them work right. You can probably do it for less than $100, maybe $75.
