To answer some comments questions. Assuming that the carburetor is rated for the hp and kw of the generator it should run and behave the same as it was on gasoline. The carburetor has an intake for lpg and a separate intake for gas. If you want to switch between the two, you have to make sure that the carburetor is empty. If you are on lpg and you wanna run gas, empty the carburetor of lpg first via the drain plug. And a seperate point, the on off lever that you set to on is actually the drain, that is used to empty the carburetor bowl of fuel. Always make sure that it's in off position while operating the generator, especially while running it on lpg. If it's in the on position, lpg/gasoline will come out of there
good things about LPG as compard to gasoline: 1. LPG doesnt separate and go bad like gas does wen sitting for longer periods. this is super useful cause most ppl will run the generators in emergencies only. LPG doesnt gunk up the carb like bad gasoline does 2. no road tax to pay with LPG 3. LPG cheaper
i liked that you dont know what half the stuff is or does. which gives me confidence that i too can do it. since i have no idea what those things you didnt know what did or were either.
Thanks for video! Same here, gas tank was rusted after 6 months of neglect and I was ready to junk it. After removing the gas tank (not too easy for me ), I considered cleaning or replacing along with the gas cap, filters, etc. I think carburetor was still OK as I was still able to start it, run briefly (I didn't want to push my luck) but at least I knew it could work. I followed your suggestions, ordered propane conversion kit and low pressure tubing and used with my grill tank. It worked! One issue, it did not start until I put the choke in "running" mode" - I may have over primed/flooded it. Thanks for your video!
I got a firman gen a few years ago and never used it until a couple months ago and before using the card metal plate was bent and the clip air cleaner cover didn't stay snapped, i never contacted them because warranty wasn't in yet. Im considering doing this to mine with gasoline. These reviews help thank you
Thank you for the nice, crispy clear video James! I have a DuraMax generator with what I believe is that same Honda clone motor on it that already needs a carb rebuild. This looks like the way to go. 👍
I have an older Briggs and Stratton and I think I could drill a hole in the carburetor and attach a fitting there, it's the kind with the carb on the fuel tank, those kits are kind of pricey.
I have newer used 35HP, 26000Watt, 3 phase back-up Briggs and Stratton. They convert it for some 300-400$. Let me know if you managed to get dual fuel carburetor on it. Thank you.
You could probably just bypass the tank and run it from a gas can or separate container. But gas is so expensive anyways, and this is a cool second option.
I'm wondering if you really need two regulators, I'm thinking the one that came with the China carb adapter kit would do all the regulating that is needed?
If you ever decide you wanted to run that generator on the gas again replace the gas tank it probably will be cheaper than the propane conversion then you have a dual fuel generator just remember to drain the gas tank of all the gas before you store the generator for long periods of time good video
let's just be safe ? .... (09:58) hint: any torn gasket means a leak anyways ... (10:30) --- you have to slide the carb in first then attached the top cables -- great vid BTW ...
Thank you for such clear instructions and especially for the links. When you started it, were you using choke and then took the choke Off or were you not using choke and it only ran with the choke On?? How has it been running since you did this and did you need to tune anything? Thanks again!
When you see a torn up gasket that means a part of the old gasket has been left behind it must be removed or it could cause an air leak and make the motor run bad.
How did it do when you plugged in your appliances? How long do you think the tank you have attached will last during run time? Can you switch back and forth between the LP and gasoline?
@brady72. There is such a device. A champion 4500 generator where I work is fitted so it will run NG LPG and octane. I don't believe it is available as a "kit" but it can be done. It's an extra regulator to mount (NG) and feed a tube to the carb. I haven't taken that close of a look but I would assume there is a T with an additional on/off valve separating propane and ng inlet.
James why don't you remove that fuel tank. And get some rust removing gel in A gallon jug. I believe it's called liquid rust remover.,an add in some P- gravel rocks inside of that fuel tank with some ratchet straps from harbor freight store. Pour that rust remover and p- gravel hand of rocks into that fuel tank. Use A floor jack.,or twist up jack underneath A riding lawnmower to lift the rear end of the ground then just ratchet strap it around the drive of the riding lawnmower. After seeing which one turns when put into ⚙️ gear. Let it tumble for 30 to 60 minutes.
Thank you for great video. I love your approach. I have one kipor KDE6700TA3 and one MEDVED 26000 Watt backup generator with automatic start and remote SIM Card on/off as major toys. Now i am in the process of acquiring small gasoline generator at least 2500W power and convert it to LPG. LPG cost is approx 1.7-1.8 Euro per kg so it is better economy than gasoline. I am astonished the machine started on propane. Did you use choke to start it up? Thank you.
I'm interested in doing this too, as I've had too many gas engines fail to start after sitting a while with today's gasoline in it. Wonder if this would work on their pressure washer with the same engine... don't see why not!
@RJ exactly my intention, especially since the house is heated with propane and i always have 100lb. backup tanks. I just won't use gasoline in it at all anymore. And the pressure washer works great but I avoid using it because the fuel always leaks out.... but what do you expect for $279 on sale at harbor freight? 🤣 Other than the leak, a great unit though for the price. Propane fixes it and again I already have some 20lb tanks around....
