I'll add my 5. Daily drinker - Basil Hayden (old fashioned) Cheap mixer - Evan Williams 86 (highball) Friday night - Blade and Bow Impress guests - Liberty Pole spiced rye Special occasion - Makers cask. Not because it's expensive or my favorite, but because it comes with a story of the trip my wife and I took to KY. She dipped a bottle herself and we have a pour on our anniversary.
@Santi Bouphavong oh yea, that small batch four roses is fantastic. I'd take that over basil hayden honestly, but I often share drinks with my wife so that's our compromise. I do like their dark rye quite a bit though.

Cheap mixer 4. Something great - your Friday nite pour 5. Saving for a special occasion 6. Bottle to give away as a gift. (I give Buffalo Trace).
Not only do I love your show but the background music is fantastic. Keep it coming, I am a novice drinker but it is a delight to learn the ropes from someone who is down to earth and knowledgeable.
Really love your content. I can appreciate your honesty and straight shooting. So many people lie or exaggerate to make themselves look like aficionados. I have the first 3 bottles you showed in my own collection. I too prefer rare breed over ice but absolutely love it as a daily drinker. I use 114 as a mixer or over ice. It is definitely a little hot but a great value. Cheers!
Kurt, I have been a subscriber for a few months, what I love about your videos is that you don't talk down to folks! Love the "grounded" attitude! I will keep watching. Going back and looking at some of your older stuff. I just picked up a bottle of Rare Breed Barrel proof. Haven't cracked it yet, but soon! Sorry to say, it is Friday night and my poor....Wild Turkey 101....is that bad? haha!
Discovered your channel today. I'm now a subscriber. I like your straight forward presentation. I mostly drink neat but at odd occasions I want ice, so I pour whatever I'm drinking over ice. Whatever you want to drink, however you want to drink it, is the right way. We're in full agreement. Fell in love with Irish early last year and am sipping my way through. Keep on doing what you do.
Truly appreciate your opinion. You talk the way I talk and your impressions of the bourbon is very close to my experience with them. Although, the real expensive one's will probably not reach my pallet. Thanks again...keep it coming!
Just discovered your channel, and I have to say Im very impressed with how you present the whiskeys and let us know its only YOUR opinion, but describe the products and when you would use them! Well done!

Wild Turkey right outta the gate ! I love the rare breed but my daily go to is the 101. It’s the closest thing to actual bourbon that I’ve found in a “store”. 👍
I'm enjoying watching and learning from you! I'm in the process of buying some good bourbon choices for my son. He has asked for Blanton's which I'm finding impossible to find, so I've been loving seeing the bourbons you recommend!

On a more serious note, I just found you (and Trevor) a couple days ago and I can't get enough. Based on your great advice I started my Bourbon collection with a bottle of Rare Breed and a wonderful bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oak. THANKS!!
Wild Turkey 101 is my everyday drinker and my cheap mixer, Wild Turkey Rare Breed or Knob Creek 9 is my Friday night pour, Old Fitzgerald BIB Decanter, I have the 9 year but any one you can find 8, 9, 11, 14 or 17 year will impress most guests. Finally, for special occasions I love his pick of Redbreast 27, it is truly a magnificent whiskey and is a great choice to share in a joyous special event.
That Rare Breed is absolutely fantastic. I drink neat 99% of the time, but that Rare Breed is one of the very few that I actually enjoy over ice. I'm loving your channel man.
great video. Great pics. Just throwing my two cents in... I would go Buffalo Trace, everyday drinker, Jim beam , for a mixer, Woodford Reserve or Elijah Craig, for the Friday nighter, Barrel Bourbon for impressing the company and special occasion would be Johnny Walker Blue. I know its not a Bourbon but it is smooth as silk and it is priced nice for a special occasion whisky.
Your best video so far I reckon. A lot of detail in there. And I love your genuine passion, and the way you avoid all the snobbery that you sometimes see when it comes to alcoholic drinks. Fantastic show 👍🥃
So glad I found this channel! Really have come to love my bourbon/ whiskey over the past few years. I feel your passion & that’s what really makes this so much fun to watch. Can’t wait to try some of your recommendations, probably not the $500 bottle though. A little out of my budget🤷🏻♂️
I don't drink daily but a daily pour has to be a handle. Until recently, it was Evan Williams BiB. $25 or so, delicious and a handle so it will last. Another option if I had to forego EW would be Old Forester 100 Signature but the handle is north of $40.
Just found your Channel completely awesome, that is one awesome Hobby, you underestimate yourself you are truly full of knowledge keep doing what you're doing
Great picks. Rare breed is my go to daily. The old grandad and Elijah craig bp are both great picks. Haven’t gotten to try the bardstown or the redbreast 27 year but I have the cask strength 12 year as my special occasion bottle good stuff too
I’m excited to find your channel, because I’m a new adventurous women wanting to enjoy bourbon. I haven’t really gone to far deep like I said I’m new. I actually enjoy the Jefferson Ocean Voyage 20&21 haven’t ever had 16/17. I just purchased a original line of Blanton’s, haven’t opened it not sure when and if I will. No time soon, I have some from a friend that I’ll drink off of here and there, but I really do enjoy it. I look forward to watching more of your videos cheers
Thanks so much for joining us! I have heard that other voyages are pretty good and from past comments 21 is the best. Thanks for chiming in and letting us join you down your whiskey journey!
Hey there, I am new to the bourbon club. Just started buy a bunch of bottles. Love wild Turkey. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep your glass full 🥃. Blessings from Gettysburg Pa..
Hello SLB, lucky you. Every day drinker. I recently purchased some Rare Breed, enjoyed it enough to buy another one, really enjoy the stuff. I drink the juice once every couple days. First bought it because of you.
My daily drinker is Wild Turkey 101, but I have had a lot of luck with finding Weller Antique over the last couple of years so I have enough bottles to work that in on a regular basis.
@@Gaverny u will not be disappointed!!! With a higher proof, a little age, it has a lot of flavors and will pick you up quickly. My absolute daily deinker
I liked your picks! I found a bottle of old grand dad 114 in my closet, it was put there after someone brought it to a party and my then roommate who had just got back from rehab had me put all the booze in my closet, somehow it fell down and I didn't know it was there, still sealed! Really nice! My daily drinker is Four roses small batch! But I need a bottle of rare breed again and pretty much all your bottles! Anyway subbed!
Apparently, you learned nothing from your rehab friend and his good advice. Good luck with your habit. It's a slippery slope with a very hard landing. And it always starts off gradually, as a fun and relaxing way to unwind. Until that desire to "unwind" begins occurring much more frequently and throughout the day.
I'm a heavy drinker throughout the day. I drink makers mark on the rocks. I don't like mixes. I think I'll try wild turkey rare breed. Thanks for your review
Aged in port wine barrels explains a lot about the Red Breast 27. Port is just delicious. Here in Cape May County the Cape May Winery has some of the best Port I've ever tasted, it's just great.
Been watching a few of your videos recently. Enjoyed the $20 per bottle Ryes and Bourbons. Enjoy Wild Turkey 101, which might be my everyday drinker, so when I saw you were a Wild Turkey guy, I paid more attention. But, when you went with Red Breast and said you could not go wrong with Red Breast, then it was time to chime in. I have enjoyed Red Breast for at least 15 years, but had not had one in a long while until this past Friday night. So smooth, but yet so full flavored. Yow! It is good. IMO, single potstill, Irish Whiskey is the stuff.
I love how right after you apologize for picking up three bottles of the Elijah Craig, the camera goes out of focus for a second. New to the channel but enjoying it immensely
Daily Drinker: like you said, needs to be in $25 range. Larceny IMHO is outstanding at just less than that price point. Old Forester offers a lot of value - but their cheaper offerings are kinda harsh, as is Buffalo Trace - Larceny is way smoother. On your advice, I'm gonna check out the WT Rare Breed, I bet it's worth $40 easily. You know, I'm not familiar with any of those you went over, except I've had regular 12-year Red Breast and it WAS outstanding. Hahahaha, there are no secrets from your wife/cameraman!!
That’s an awesome collection! I got one this year that was just ok. But, some of the past releases are just so great I feel like I am being to judgmental on one that is just good.
I have three of the ones you chose and a different Bardstown and Redbreast. Great minds though. Love your choices. I'm thinking that I'm on the right profile track concerning Bourbons and Irish Whiskeys.
I drink OGD 114 and BiB regularly as daily drinkers. They are both quite fantastic for the price. Fortunately I usually can get the ECBP at MSRP locally and have numerous bottles of different batches in reserve. I think that it's superior to many much more sought after whiskeys like Elmer T Lee and Blanton's. You'll love Batch 5 of the Discovery series once you try it. All great stuff. How is that Booker's 30th Anniversary? That's a special occasion bottle...
The very term "daily drinker" should scare the piss out of everyone as a warning sign. It certainly would for any recovering alcoholic. If not, how does the term "daily shootup" strike you? There you go.
@@privatename3621 The only thing that worries me about drinking daily is the calories. Not everyone is susceptible to alcoholism. Many whiskey fans take regular “fasts” to reset their palates, lose some weight, or make sure they are keeping things balanced. The term daily drinker to me is more about good tasting affordability rather than drinking daily. Chill.
I just discovered this video and I happen to have recently bought a bottle of Rare Breed, which I love with a very small splash of water. When you have it on a block of ice, are we talking an Old Fashioned style big rock, or a smaller cube? Thanks for the great, down to earth content - you're one of my favourite channels on YT
Really appreciate that! I usually pour mine over a large block of ice but I don’t let it sit in the glass for a long period of time. A small piece of ice would be just fine as well if you are just looking for the dilution.
I was so surprised by trying the Elijah Craig barrel proof (at 135 proof) with a piece of ice. The drinking experience was like no other bourbon that I have tried. As the bourbon dilutes and cools the taste changed and the mouth feel changed.
My favorite thing about Irish Whiskey is how they use a percentage of unmalted barley. Way back when, i've been told that, british government started taxing whiskies, to cut down on the tax liabilities, irish distillers started putting in a percentage of unmalted barley spirit. Hell of a story. Loving your videos.
I was going to comment that if you love RB27, you’ll probably really enjoy Blue Spot at a much better price (at least at retail). The challenge is finding a bottle.
Thank you. Although Buffalo Trace has some amazing options most are so hard to find and when you do find one it’s extremely over priced. Appreciate your comment and interest in the channel.
Being from Scotland, I’m a truly scotch fanatic and , not an expert, but a fan , and in in my opinion, we make the greatest whisky. But I rarely buy bourbon, but I bought a bottle of Rock Town , single barrel , small batch, 60+ abv, from Arkansas. Magnificent whiskey. Wondered if you have tried it, and what your thoughts are of Rock Town. ? Slainte mhath from Scotland. 🥃….good job on your making your videos 👍👍👍
Thank you and welcome from Scotland! Truly a place I would love to visit at some point of my life! Truthfully I have never tried Rock Town but I will definitely be looking for it now! I also love scotch and the nuances I find in different releases. Blessings to you and yours and thank you for your input!
I used to only be a scotch whisky drinker. Many years ago I had the pleasure of visiting Scotland. Absolutely loved it and the people were amazing. One of my favorite scotches is bunninnahabbin. But a few years ago I discovered some really good bourbons. And I have thoroughly enjoyed getting aquatinted with them!
Dude, you are talking my language!! I have to ask. Unfortunately I never found the 17 yr BIB how good is it?? Almost don’t want to know lol. RR 1998 I have never tried either but wow what a cool special occasion bottle! Well done my friend!
@@slbdrinks Russell's Reserve 1998 is the best bourbon I've ever had at any price. I only bring it out on very special occasions, only 2,000 bottles were produced so once this one is gone I'll never see it again. Masters Keep 17 BiB is absolutely phenomenal and my second favorite, followed by the Russell's Reserve 2003 coming in 3rd. Cheers!
@@slbdrinks Rarebird101 has a great writeup and review of Master's Keep BiB on his blog which is a great source of reviews and information about all things Wild Turkey. Cheers!
Have you Ever had "Breckenridge Distillery" Bourbon(s) ? I was turned on to them by my daughter and it's now one of my absolute favorites. It's distilled in Breckenridge, CO. and they do Vodka and Gins as well I believe. I highly recommend it. Thank you for you channel! I appreciate ALL of the content!
I grew up in a household of non-drinkers because of drunks in the family. And the names "wild turkey" and "old grand-dad" always held this stigma of trash because they were choice drinks of these family alcoholics. I got into whiskey tasting about 4 years ago and have started a small collection. It sounds like I need to give these brands a chance.
As a former alcoholic and former connoisseur of bargain brand bourbons, I must say you can do better for less is the buzz is all you’re concerned about. Evan Williams is the cheapest bottle on the shelf and has subtle hints of bourbon with major hints of diesel fuel and an aftertaste of kerosene. Jim Beam was by far my favorite, as for $10 more a bottle you could actually some subtle flavors… before completely forgetting about what they were in the morning. In all seriousness I was just starting to actually enjoy whiskey before I gave it up.
"because of drunks in the family" ... "I got into whiskey tasting about 4 years ago and have started a small collection" ...be careful. That's how it starts. "Casual alcohol drinking" (if that's even a real thing) is a slippery slope. It reels you in very slowly, like a nearly invisible thread of a cobweb. And gradually hauls you into its addictive, inescapable black hole orbit like a steel cable that you can't unteather yourself from. The key is that constant and repetitive act of consuming small amounts every day (including wine), until you gradually build up to a little more each day, and maybe a second or a third, and a little stronger in the proof. The the shame and hiding sets in when you begin to realize it has become more than just a way to relax. I actually worry about the host of this channel. He's already speeding his skis on that downhill slope.
Responsible drinking has been the constant theme of this channel since it’s inception. Anyone can fall into addiction on many levels and that is sad when that happens. I try though not to include anyone who partakes in a little wine, beer, whiskey, cocktail, etc responsibly as a potential addict. There are good responsible folks out there. If you chose sobriety i applaud and support that as well. I lived the first 40 yrs of my life never touching alcohol also.
Definitely trying the Bardstown. My 5: Redbreast 15, Green Spot, Nikka Coffey, Woodford Reserve, and Buffalo Trace (not a band wagon fan - been one of my two daily drinkers along with Green Spot for nearly a decade). Redbreast 27? Maybe someday.
I enjoyed your review. I just happen to have an unopened bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C919 136.8 Proof that my son picked up for me a while back.
Love your content and channel...pretty noobie to Bourbons, but love discovering new favorites! I subscribed today. I have Knob Creek Single Barrel in my cabinet right now that I really like. I drink some neat, some over ice and some with a splash of Coke, do you see anything wrong with that?
Not at all my friend! I also will pour KC single barrel neat but mostly over ice. Bourbon and whiskey is for your enjoyment. Drink what you like the way you like it! Don’t ever let anyone tell you differently.
I’m surprised I didn’t hear Blantons on that list. Good review didn’t try any but as my father has been a wild Turkey 101 for years, I have moved him to Bullit and woodford. May have to try a few others for him.
Red Breast 27 is AWESOME. Grapefruit for me. so nice. But the new small batch is a no go for me. the 12 yr. cask is a creamy yum bomb. Is your 27 redbreast batch 1 or 2. I have 2 and heard 1 was also yum.
My other category, if your your shipwrecked on an island and no hope of rescue with a ship full of bourbon of one brand name, what would that be? I also use this shipwreck approach for meals, beer, but something you have to have every day.
I cannot imagine what it is like to walk into a store in the US and see just how cheap stuff is. In Australia his $40 to $45 daily drinker Wild Turkey Rare Breed is $105 a bottle AUD. Makers Mark is a $50 to $55 bottle here. Not $25. As a mixer bourbon (coke). Makers Mark is pure liquid gold. Top Shelf, tastes magnificent. It is a smooth as a baby's bottom. (Please pardon the expression). Lucky for me I am in Australia, saves me from alcoholism.
I have talked to others from Australia as well about bourbon pricing. I wish everyone around the world could experience similar pricing as I do. Hopefully there are other spirit options that are not as salty.
I'll add my 5.
Daily drinker - Basil Hayden (old fashioned)
Cheap mixer - Evan Williams 86 (highball)
Friday night - Blade and Bow
Impress guests - Liberty Pole spiced rye
Special occasion - Makers cask. Not because it's expensive or my favorite, but because it comes with a story of the trip my wife and I took to KY. She dipped a bottle herself and we have a pour on our anniversary.

Phenomenal call on the OGD for mixing! Rest of lineup is great as well.
Love using OGD in cocktails!
I can't narrow it down to 5. Such a great time to be a bourbon drinker. Definitely Old Grand Dad 114.
I'm a heavy drinker throughout the day. I drink makers mark on the rocks. I don't like mixes. I think I'll try wild turkey rare breed. Thanks for your review
If you're around Atlanta, try old fourth ward bourbon and rye. My favorite. Rye has good proof. Use for everything
Will do! Appreciate the heads up!
Old Grand Dad 114. So underrated! Good call!!
Agreed!
Irish pot still is the bomb!! Don’t miss Thursdays video! All Irish whiskey!
You are always welcome to chime in!
Amen Brother drink it the way you enjoy it ..... keep the faith
💯 correct! Don’t let anyone tell you different!
Appreciate you
I love how right after you apologize for picking up three bottles of the Elijah Craig, the camera goes out of focus for a second. New to the channel but enjoying it immensely
I like Balvenie port wood 21 year scotch. Port barrels do amazing things to whiskey!
Omg it is delicious!
OGD 114 is my go to for mixed drinks.. the higher proof really shines through!
Without a doubt! Ogd 114 is a game changer for bourbon cocktails!
Thanks for your input on all these whiskeys and such, just getting into this, really enjoy your reviews of the immense amount of product out there!
I appreciate you joining us on the journey!
No secrets here my friend lol! Larceny is an excellent choice!
Nice line up. My impress bottle is Blanton and special occasion is a rare Japanese Whiskey Kujira 20yr plus another 10yr that I've had it.
Took a screenshot of your Japanese choice. Always out to learn about new Japanese whiskies!
Not gonna lie. I think Evan Williams is the absolute best of the cheapies
Rare Breed is my favorite. I used to love Blantons but the ABC store doesn't carry it any longer.
Exceptional pick!
Couldn't agree more on the EC Barrel Proof. I have something like 16 releases on hand.
That’s an awesome collection! I got one this year that was just ok. But, some of the past releases are just so great I feel like I am being to judgmental on one that is just good.
New to your channel - love your reviews and your honesty! Thanks for sharing.
Appreciate that!
Thanks for the great video. By the way OGD 114 is delicious sipping neat too.
I agree! A fantastic bourbon for the money!
Shhhh….gonna make it shoot up in price! 😅
Love your segments and your last name! I'm from Ludington, Michigan! Cheers!
Awesome lol! Visited Ludington only once but had to do it! Beautiful town!
Have you tried Bibb and Tucker? This is my favorite daily drinker on the rocks. A little pricey but very smooth.
Great choices! My daily drinker is Wild Turkey Rare also.
Great channel! Glad I found it 🥃
Me to! Thanks for joining us!
Would love to see you guys do a video of top Virginia Bourbons. Really enjoy your page!
I have three of the ones you chose and a different Bardstown and Redbreast. Great minds though. Love your choices. I'm thinking that I'm on the right profile track concerning Bourbons and Irish Whiskeys.
That last bottle Redbreast is good stuff, haven’t had 27 tho, good for you old man!
Appreciate it! Would love for everyone to try it! Truly an amazing whiskey! My man Max! Appreciate ya!
The Bookers is really really good! I do have several Bardstown including batch 5. Bardstown is def some of my favorite bottles!
I enjoy the BiB also, as a daily.
Chill.
1. Daily Drinker: Rittenhouse Rye
2. Cheap Mixer: Old Forester 86 - Old grandad is pretty decent too
3. Eagle Rare 10 year
4. Angles Envy Rye
5. Macallan Edition 1
I love the variety!
@@slbdrinks have you guys done a video on Ryes? I love Rye Whiskey and think it's a bit underutilized.
We need to do more ryes.
You are right! It is an amazing experience!
ec straight is amazing
With the Elijah Craig…I prefer the Toasted. It has a nice rich flavor and enough proof to give it some character.
Love all Red Breast offerings same with Bardstown and Elijah. Great content.
Love Irish whiskey in general. I do have a few RB bottles but my recent obsession is blue spot.
I have approximately 15 Irish Whiskeys on hand. My new obsession is Blue Spot. Thank you for your input!
@@slbdrinks Blue Spot is amazing. Have you started on the Waterford Irish Whisky's ...yes, without the "e". They are exceptional.
I am a Irish whiskey fan because I can taste the different flavors. 👍🏼 I have not had anything at that level but close.
My favorite Irish whiskey at the moment is blue spot however that changes from time to time lol
@@slbdrinks blue spot is a little high for my funds😂 however I have Green Dot and enjoy that.
Also fantastic!
I was going to comment that if you love RB27, you’ll probably really enjoy Blue Spot at a much better price (at least at retail). The challenge is finding a bottle.
I really like how you didnt just choose a bunch of buffalo trace products. Strong agree on the elijah craig barrel proof.
Thank you. Although Buffalo Trace has some amazing options most are so hard to find and when you do find one it’s extremely over priced. Appreciate your comment and interest in the channel.
@@slbdrinks yeah they make great stuff and all but theres lots of excellent more available options.
Aren't the people that running Buffalo Trace expanding their capacity ?
I really enjoy your videos.
Just now finding your channel. Love the passion! Keep up the good clips 👏👏
Thanks so much!
Good deal! I would love to visit Ireland at some point!
Good choice with the Red Breast 27. Red Breast 21 changed my definition of good whiskey
Definitely fantastic!
Daily Sipper: Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Cheap Mixer: Wild Turkey 101
Friday Night Pour: Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Private Barrel Selection
Impress friends : Wild Turkey Master's Keep 17 year old Bottled-in-Bond
Special occasions: Russell's Reserve 1998
Cheers!
Brilliant lineup 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻🥃🥃🥃
@@slbdrinks Rarebird101 has a great writeup and review of Master's Keep BiB on his blog which is a great source of reviews and information about all things Wild Turkey. Cheers!
You must be from Lawrenceburg, Kentucky
I so enjoy your videos!!!
I had a Sherry finish years ago but none since, unfortunately.
OGD 114 is the greatest ole fashion mixer ever!
Can’t argue that one! Excellent choice!
I agree, same feeling here on the wild turkey, and old grandad
Responsible drinking has been the constant theme of this channel since it’s inception. Anyone can fall into addiction on many levels and that is sad when that happens. I try though not to include anyone who partakes in a little wine, beer, whiskey, cocktail, etc responsibly as a potential addict. There are good responsible folks out there. If you chose sobriety i applaud and support that as well. I lived the first 40 yrs of my life never touching alcohol also.
Those are my go tos right now😂
Definitely trying the Bardstown. My 5: Redbreast 15, Green Spot, Nikka Coffey, Woodford Reserve, and Buffalo Trace (not a band wagon fan - been one of my two daily drinkers along with Green Spot for nearly a decade). Redbreast 27? Maybe someday.
What a beautiful bar sir👏
Thank you!
Come day go day wishing me heart it was Sunday . Drinking buttermilk all the week whiskey on a Sunday
Whiskey on Sunday! I love that! Buttermilk loo
Great job. This to me, is what whiskey is all about. Experience and sharing.
Without a doubt! Thank you!
That would be a great experience!
Enjoy whatever u drink fun review
That’s a fact!
Red Breast 27 is AWESOME. Grapefruit for me. so nice. But the new small batch is a no go for me. the 12 yr. cask is a creamy yum bomb. Is your 27 redbreast batch 1 or 2. I have 2 and heard 1 was also yum.
Just got the 12 yr cask strength a few weeks ago. Need to spend some time with that.
I have RB 27 batch 1. Amazing stuff!
Rare Breed ❤ So, so good. Solid choice and very affordable.
My other category, if your your shipwrecked on an island and no hope of rescue with a ship full of bourbon of one brand name, what would that be? I also use this shipwreck approach for meals, beer, but something you have to have every day.
Great idea!
Rare breed as a daily drinker, a man of culture!
Not sure if I ever was referred to as a man of culture lol but thank you!
