    There’s a bunch of TH-camrs copying each other’s empty trendy videos. And there’s Dave who passionately does his own thing.
    Long format videos are where you shine Dave.

    I worked on the night shift with a David Simpson in a big American Supermarket food store about 30 years ago. A great guy with about 6 kids. Used to bring his Jackson guitar to work (which cost a whole month's salary, even though he was the Night Shift boss). He would play in the employees' bathroom upstairs because he liked the reverb.
    Thanks for this review, and the playing was a big treat, interesting sounds and skilled playing!

    I have been playing guitar in bands since 1969. I have around 40 guitars including many Gibsons and Fenders. I brought a Jet js300 on Dave Simpson's video. I paid £148 for it. I wasn't expecting much due to the price. I thought it may be an OK budget guitar to challenge a squire. How wrong I was. This guitar is great irrespective of price. The neck is one of the best I have played. I would say it is as good as or maybe better than my 1986 USA strat. I have changed the ceramic pickups for an ironsone David Gilmour set and it sounds wonderful. The feel and playability is on par with any £1000 guitar. It blows my classic vibe strat away. Get one now before thay turn into rocking horse shit.

    Beautiful intro& outro jams - so full of emotion!
    90% of today's "Guitar Heroes" are just showing off how fast they can play, how many modes they're familiar with, what masters of technique they are,etc. But rarely do I feel they are touching my heart. You are a true musician ! As you mentioned on your "Is Music still relevant?" rant... and I paraphrase: "If music doesn't communicate feeling, then what is it for?" You certainly touched me deeply with this here in Catalunya! Bon Any!

    I bought one after seeing this video, have to say I agree with everything Dave has said. I have a few high value guitars and this feels very close, it’s not just a good beginners guitar, with a bit of setup it’s good full stop. Mines came with a lightly flamed roasted maple neck which looks and feels great. No fret sprout and a very reasonable fret job done on them.
    A few negatives which are to be expected at this price point. I got the blue with rosewood finger board. The blue isn’t like the pictures but more of a duck egg blue. The rosewood has been dyed darker and the dye rubs off on your fingers so hoping that will soon stop.
    When I tried to change the strings the old ones were stuck in the trem block and took a bit of pressure with a small allen key to push them put.
    The action at the nut is way too high as stock and I also had one or two high frets but they weren’t high enough to cause any issues.
    The paint work is nice enough but has been burnt through with polishing in some cases (not noticeable) and in others there are places were the buffing marks remain. Don’t let this put you off as I am talking about niggles here, nothing that wouldn’t be expected at the price.
    I bought this with the knowledge I was going to mod it. I threw in a gotoh 510 vintage style 6 hole trem. Needed to widen the trem route slightly but other than that a straight fit. It’s much more solid than the stock trem.
    I also fitted gotoh sg381 locking tuners which feel much higher quality with smooth tuning action.
    Lastly I’ve fitted a Tusq nut which sorted the action and had a big impact on tone. With D’Addario exl125-10p light top, regular bottom strings..this guitar now rings like a bell unplugged.
    I play through a jcm800 clone and it sounds good with the stock pickups, I may swap them out at some stage but so far I’m happy with them.
    Overall the build quality where it matters with the neck feel, quality and neck-body joint. I’ve spent approx £160 extra on hardware and have a guitar that plays as good, if not better, than a guitar at a much higher price point.
    Highly recommended.

    • @sgtgonzo5076
      @sgtgonzo5076 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate - I'm also abuout to start a mod project on this. Ordered new pickups, a Wilkinson wv6 bridge, same tuners as you, but couldn't quite figure out what tusq nut I needed. This will be my first attempt at doing something like this so I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Do you have the name/style of the tusq nut and did you need to sand it much?

    • @will01quinn
      @will01quinn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sgtgonzo5076 I checked my emails and I think the model was PQ-2200-00 Nut 1/8 Blank. It’s a nut blank so I had to sand it for depth to get it lower and also cut the nut slots with a set of nut files. I got the files years ago from stewmac, they were pricey at the time and I have hardly ever used them cause most of the guitars I’ve built have Floyd locking nuts. It’s a daunting task, but if you screw up you can always make a new one, although tusq is pricey enough.
      You will also need a standard file just thinner than your nut slot so you can file off the glue remaining from the old nut. You need to be careful so you don’t accidentally round over the base of the nut slot so hold the file square.
      You could get some bone blanks and practice with those first. Bone stinks when being worked but it’s cheap so would be good to practice on first.
      I ended up swapping put the pickups for some fender fat 50s which completely changed the character of the guitar, for the better.
      One last thing you might consider, while you are at it shield the pickup cavity with copper self adhesive tape, it just helps to cut down on hum.
      I would say watch loads of TH-cam videos for advice and Good luck with the project it’s great fun!

    This video was the review that introduced me to Jet Guitars. After weeks of pondering, I finally pulled the trigger, I just received it 10 minutes ago. After tuning it I did my normal checks/setup, and I am amazed to say I don’t have to touch a thing. The intonation was set up perfectly, string height set up perfectly, pickup height set up perfectly. This guitar blows the doors off some “higher” end guitars I’ve played and owned over the years. It sounds great, looks great, feels great. If I were to knit-pick, about the only thing I could say is the fret ends aren’t “rolled”, however there is no sprout, and no real sharpness to speak of. The frets feel great. Obviously, this is an easy thing to address, but not necessary in the slightest…again it’s a knit-picky thing. A revisit of THIS video was first on my to-do’s after giving it a go. Thank you Dave for the honest review. And for all of your honest reviews for that matter.
    For others on the fence, I say pull the trigger. It’s a great guitar for the money, and perhaps the same could be said if it was $100 or $300 more. I’m far from a beginner, and I’m quite pleased. If this is how they all come out of the box, a beginner would have nothing to fear. Seriously a great guitar. The craftsmanship is just otherworldly…especially at the price point.
    PS: I even bought the same color, Dave 😂

    Kudos to Jet for their consideration to Lefty players. As a Lefty, I,m quite astounded to find out that the pots are actually lefty pots. Not just talking about the numbering 1-10 here. The Volume pot is linear and rarely found on even expensive Lefty guitars....Brilliant.

    • @Musicology1975
      @Musicology1975 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi how did you find out they are lefty pots? Because of the wiring.?

    • @mytoobusr
      @mytoobusr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Musicology1975 Well I found out cos I,m left handed he he.
      Joking apart, I may have the terminology wrong as the pot may be logarithmic. Anyhow by turning the pot towards the floor will turn OFF the volume. This is the normal righty way except as a lefty, the pot is turning clockwise (a righty would be anti-clockwise). So okay, that could be done by flipping the wiring ( haven't checked that) on the pots lugs but it wouldn't be correct as I think you need an "Anti-Log" pot.
      These Jet pots have a finer gradation of volume which I dont usually experience on lefty guitars. The numbering on the pot control is right handed and therefore backwards for a lefty..which is very common. I may have the audio taper terminology wrong as it can get confusing BUT they work in a more incremental way...is all I can say. I rarely find that is the situation and I've got/had a lot of lefties over the years

    That 150 dollar Jet guitar is a steal for sure!! I bought a Squire Bullet Blackout a year and a half ago based on your demo on that red one you had then and had so much fun with. Mine is an HSS I got for 129 dollars (shipping included) and it plays great. No dead frets, looks great and played awesome right out of the box! The feel of the neck on it is so player friendly. Great playing and demo Dave!! Now the question is, do I need another guitar??? The mathematical formula is (n+1) n = number of guitars you have now.... DAMN YOU DAVE!!! 🤣🤣 You know I'm kidding ya Bro!! I got to catch up on some vids, been away for a week for Thanksgiving. Cheers!!🍻

    Hey Dave, I bought the telecaster, delivered yesterday in blue ( based on your review, which by the way are always so informative), apart from it needing maybe new strings and a fret polish and neck clean , it's a stunning guitar! I paid 149 pounds new , unbelievable 😳 I think you could put fender on the headstock and you'd be none the wiser !! 👍

    Good afternoon Mr Simpson. Hope you and yours have enjoyed the festive period and ready for 2022. May your success long continue brother, so thoroughly deserved honestly. Based on your video I was lucky enough to snag one second hand on eBay this morning! I nearly bought new as few stores still have them but got it for £99 plus a ten spot postage. You should hit Jet Guitars up for promotion paid work as many folks have bought based on your videos. I nearly bought the blue one with rosewood neck for £149 but the one I have bought is exactly like yours in the video. Seafoam Greenage.
