    PSA: do not use teflon tape on oil fittings, even the set screws used as plugs, you're just asking for a piece to break free and clog up an oil galley somewhere in your block or turbo feed. Use a teflon based sealing compound ( paste) or a thread locking sealant (I would use red )

    I just installed the oil filter sandwich and installed the oil cooler. Rerouted my tranny lines from radiator to air tranny cooler that already existed on front of radiator. Then installed the temp. guages for oil temp. and tranny temp. Bought the pillar specially made for nissan frontier online, where the guages go. Had a small leak when installing filter sandwich so had to do modificiations. Not as easy as it looks. Thanks for the video.

    hi, I have an old Subaru 1.8 L-series and plan to fit an oil cooler; the Mishimoto product looks excellent. I'd just add that before putting all the splash-guards, bumper assembly and lights back in, I'd have run the engine up to temperature and checked for leaks!.

    Can this also be used on other 2.5 Subaru motors? Such as a 01 Outback? Besides the mounting holes and routing the lines, it should bolt up to the motor the same.

    one thing I find bit misleading about the video in my view is the fact you put the old flter back on, id always use a new filter, but great video though extremely clear ;)

    • @mishimoto
      @mishimoto  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the filter is new, it is not necessary to replace it. I would recommend performing this installation at the same time as an oil change though. This way you can knock off two tasks at once. :)

    I heard somewhere before that when installing a oil cooler (also applies for oil catch can) that it changes the oil pressure and will require adjustments to the ecu ie, remap? What would your opinion be on this?
    Regards

    • @BreakYourMark
      @BreakYourMark 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s doesn’t apply to oil catch cans because those don’t effect the oil pressure. They pull the oil out of the air that made it past the piston rings

  • @jordanp6420

    Is this compatible with hella horns? Also does this make more work for the oil pump, especially important for me since I’m also running an air-oil separator?

    • @mishimoto
      @mishimoto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jordan. It looks like our test vehicle had OEM horn so I would not be able to confirm if this kit is compatible with Hella Horns.
      However, I can confirm that this kit will not cause any additional stress on the oil pump.

    when you drain the oil does the oil from the cooler come out as well? Or do you have to disconnect it to drain the cooler?

    • @mishimoto
      @mishimoto  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When the oil is drained from the pan, around .5 quarts will remain in the cooler and lines. It is not necessary to remove the cooler and/or lines to drain the oil during every fluid change. If you follow normal oil change intervals you should not have any issues!

    • @mishimoto
      @mishimoto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello R3S3T Nation. At this time, we only have confirmed fitment on the 2001-2005 WRX and 2004-2005 STI. This product should be compatible with your vehicle, however, we have not conducted any testing on this vehicle specifically. So I can not make any guarantees. The only real issue I can see you running into would be changing the mounting location due to the vehicles being on a different chassis.

    Why no Teflon tape on the lower fittings?

    • @One000Suns
      @One000Suns 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are flare fittings; they do not need it because they seal themselves when tightened.

    • @wingman358
      @wingman358 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      rambow70 the lower fittings (AN fittings) seal at the tip, as opposed to NPT type fittings which seal along the thread. You can see on AN fittings where they have the tip beveled at a 37deg angle. That fits into a "cup" of sorts on the other side, making a very good seal. Taping the threads wouldn't really do anything since AN type fittings don't seal there anyways. And you really do not want bits of teflon tape entering the oil system and clogging up an oil passage. See this page for some more info on the sealing surface of AN fittings: www.vsetrack.com/track_reports/2010/an_fittings/an_seals.htm
