The LEATHERMAN ARC needs a better Sheath.

  • Stay tuned for the upcoming video after I test the Leatherman ARC in the field, but at this point I have a gripe with the sheath for this multitool. It is too big. The flap is too big so it doesn't secure the tool inside its pocket. The sides are too deep so quick draw is a problem. Finally, the tabs get caught on the elastic sides meant to stow the sled of interchangeable bits.

Not a sponsored comment, but I agree. I just bought a custom holster from Zap Wizard. Totally amazing. Also bought all the accessories for it as well.

I noticed the other side of the Philips has a flathead. However the tool already has a flathead. Why not make the other side of the Philips the third most popular screwdriver?

My thoughts exactly! I would put a torx driver opposite a Phillips on one of those little bits. The second flat head is redundant.

You are absolutely right. Old black sheath are much better.

Fully agree with the bad sheath opinion. The first thing I did when I got it was try all the sheaths I have to see what works best. For now I have the LM Ainsworth leather sheath M that works best and the LM Heritage leather sheath close second. IMO LM should provide a leather sheath like the Gerber Centerdrive plus one with a special place for the extender. And it should be an optional choice not an extra item to purchase since the price is too high already...

Yes, a $230 tool should have a sheath specifically designed for it.

Dead on, brother. The sheath was an obvious -- one-size-fits-all -- afterthought. About the only thing special on the the Arc is the Magnacut blade, which I've already reground on mine and truly love. Everything else was a "rush to market," hype-job (including the wire cutter fiasco) and disappointing. By the way, there are a couple of good-quality bit extensions on AMZN for $10, if you'd rather not "buy American" by paying the extra $15.00. I'd buy my Arc over again, but there's a lot about the system (sheath, support, etc.) to criticize.

Yes, Leatherman overhyped the ARC. I like it though. That’s a good point about the bit extender bring American made. With that in mind the cost is a little easier to swallow.

Your Arc was packaged with a size "Large" sized sheath. The proper size sheath for that tool is actually a "Medium." I just returned a large sheath that was recommended on the website for my Free P4. They are recommending the wrong size sheath for certain models and obviously packaged your Arc with a large sheath too, when it actually fits in a medium. Huge mistake on their part. I called customer service to relay that to them, but I doubt it will change anything. You can always order the proper size sheath, and opt for a leather one instead to resolve the issue of the nylon sheaths wearing out too soon. They packaged the Arc with a sheath that fits a tool the size of the Surge. SMH

@@hiphopjewels This was embarrassing for leatherman. I have the free P2 and I tried the ARC in its sheath and it fit well but there’s no holder for the bit sled!

@@JimKinkadeThey sell the medium sheath with pockets for the bit sleds too. They sell those sheaths with and without pockets on their site. I agree, Leatherman dropped the ball on that detail. Great video, thank you.

That is a terrible sheath. Leatherman should be ashamed of that failure.
I was online searching about how much I hate that friggen holster and I found this video. That sheath belongs in the trash.
