      Just a couple of points too pal. If the cars is touching 100,000 miles and its not already had a clutch it will probably need one. Also two of my berlingos needed new rear axle at around 120-150000 miles too 😎

    Brings memories :-) I've had berlingo I for 12 years from new. I loved it for the space and no frills practicality on a small footprint. I've switched to Berlingo III. It's a better and more modern car but also heavier and more complicated.

    Very cheerful review! Just what I needed. I got a 1.6 petrol Multispace from the first series (2001) Ain't got half the cupholders these second series do, but I do have A/C !!
    Bought it dirt cheap, dark blue, full of little dents and scratches. (I love 'em that way,) And fitted a roof rack to suit the overall barn-like appearance. Got no hubcaps either. (On purpose)
    Unfortunately, allthough plenty of maintenance has been done well, some of it was clearly neglegted. It did 301.000KM when I got it, and my gearbox started making some really alarming noises some 15.000KM later due to the fact it had no oil in it... (When does anyone check for this when buying a second hand car...? ) It shifted beautifully though... And it wasn't leaking any transmission fluid, thats for sure... So probably the previous owner changed the clutch and then just not filled it up? I don't know...
    Got a second hand gearbox from a scrapyard, and went to install it together with a neighbour, who's an ex car-mechanic. Well... Should it be my luck that this gearbox has the exact same problem... It makes a very alarming and dry scraping noise, just like the one that I took out... Even though I did fill it up after installing it... Certainly, this noise isn't coming from anywhere else... We've been over it for days now... I was nearly giving up on it... But my budget is tight, and sure as hell this is probably the best car I've ever owned, for all of the reasons you've mentioned. (except the cupholders ;-P ) So thanks for reminding me! I'm just not going to give up and get me another gearbox... Hopefully, this time 'round one that isn't damaged already... I want my Berlingo back on the road...!

    Brilliant review - thanks for posting.
    I have a 2002 Multispace Forte 1.6 petrol just turned 100k miles; I'm the 2nd owner, had it for 15 years and I've done 65k of those miles. Never had any problem with it. Had timing belt done at 40k and 90k. Mine is dark red like yours and lacquer only just starting to blister in couple of small places bonnet and roof. I understand the red ones are prone to that but hey, mine's 19 years old so I'm certainly not complaining .No other rust whatsoever.
    My only criticism of my Multispace is the external lighting! The indicator and side lamp bulbs seem to blow quite frequently (headlamps are OK). Big downside is the tiny rear side lights which are very dim indeed. It worries me at night in bad weather. My rear light clusters look like they are dark shaded which makes matters worse. You have the facelifted model and I've noticed that they have much clearer lenses. I wonder if these later lens clusters would fit on mine? I'd certainly buy a pair for peace of mind.
    Would you happen to know if they would fit?
    Cheers
    Vivian

    • @projectfearn
      @projectfearn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      High there yes yours are darker :) the bulbs holders are all the same so I guess you can put the later clusters on no problem :)

    • @byronmills5952
      @byronmills5952 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can straight swap the later outer lenses to your existing units. A friend of mine was concerned about the rear tail light visibility and linked some extra red led strip lights to the sides of the tailgate glass.

    I had a Y reg 1.4 and got rid of it last year on scrappage for a Ford Tourneo Courier. The Courier might have the touchscreen and gadgets of a new vehicle, but isn't half the tardis that the Berlingo was. Like the new Berlingos, the Tourneo Courier has so much trim in the loadspace it really restricts the width, and the rear seats fold so as to intrude severely into the loadspace. Plus there's the nightmare of the DPF on a modern diesel, constantly having to do "maintenance drives" so it can regenerate. I would have kept the Berlingo if I'd have known we were going into a lockdown before I took delivery of the new one, and would have spent some time sorting out the heater matrix! I agree the seating position is superb. Barely any rust when I got rid of it, even where the C pillar had been damaged one side, only rust was on seams in the loadbay and that was just slight surface rust. The 1.4 was underpowered but got 45+mpg which isn't far off what I get in the new Courier (advertised 64mpg, I can't get above 55mpg even on the flat in sixth on the motorway!). We had a 2.0 HDi Partner at work which went like a bomb! I must admit in the 17 years I had the Berlingo I never used any of the cup holders! Only major jobs I ever had done were clutch at 150,000 (wouldn't declutch, and had to tow a boat back from Plymouth to Devon with it!), water damage to BSI due to link at A pillar. I solved my laquer peel with yacht varnish! Old number plate surround was a pain as to change the number plate bulbs it was near-impossible to unclip the lenses and you had to take off the door trim and unbolt the number plate surround. However the headlight bulbs were a 30 second job to change, but mine were the old design, I see yours has the newer headlights.

    • @projectfearn
      @projectfearn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All valid points pal. I make great use of my cup holders ha

    Got a 1.6 petrol 2003 Multispace Forte, the most basic spec. Great car. We live on a hillfarm in Northumberland, we have a 2012 Shogun 7 seater 3lt turbo diesel 4x4, a 2009 Megane Convertible Coupe and a 2007 Mercedes s500 . The Citroen is tough, reliable, cheap to run and comfortable and it has a 650kilo payload. It can be wiped clean inside and washed out in the worst circumstances. With all weather tyres it copes with the harshest winters although this makes the terrible understeer a lot worse. It's my main car for the 40 mile round trip to town.
    The French havr always had an ability to produce cheap, tough, affordable, reliable and comfortable cars which are also incredibly practical. The 2VC, the 304, the Citroen Ami and LNA, the Renault 4 and 5, the 205.. there are still thousands of these on the roads of Europe and now Africa.
    The Berlingo, in Citroen or Puegeot form is another of these classic practical designs.
    I love it.

Done 75k, its so smooth engine, floaty comfy suspension, almost silent and lovely to drive. My kids love borrowing it. I bought it to transport my elderly parents with sliding doors. I can get 3 people and 3 adult mountain bikes in. I have moved double beds/fridge freezers etc. its tatty inside now but externally is as new. 2007 plate. Bought as a 2nd vehicle workhorse and cannot fault it. Boot lock doesnt work but as u say who wants to nick one😂. I am 63 had 35 cars and i really can say I love it and its my go to to drive as a daily. The petrol is 1.6 16v 115hp and is no slouch yet on distance does 38mpg. I just bought a 2005 petrol model, but one of the rear doors does not open with central locking - boot, passenger and rear drivers side work fine, so have to manually lock and unlock. Is this likely to be just a faulty central locking slave in that door? Should I just buy one and replace or could it be something else? Thanks

    I wonder if part of the reason why the rear axle is more prone to giving up (compared to other vehicles) is because of the spare wheel suspended underneath at the back. Must add a fair bit of weight. Maybe worth storing somewhere else.

    Got a '59 plate Multispace II, little bit of a downgrade in features from the KIA Ceed I previously had (crunched the bodywork on that and cost too much for repair). Mother-in-law had a couple through Motorbility, so my family had little bit of experience and thus it was a car that both me and the wife agreed on.
    Only major issue I've had is the bearing on the alternator going, shredding the fan belt and knocking five teeth off the cam belt. Was lucky with the timing of the breakdown as minutes before I'd been on the motorway and the engine still restarted, so wasn't a write off.

I must say although I agree with everything you've said I only have one down point on mine.. I don't know if you have the same problem.. I'm 5ft 9ins and I find I'm constantly moving the seatbelt away from my neck. If the seatbelt height adjuster in the door pillar would go lower the belt would fit tidily over my shoulder or if I could get a height adjustable driver seat and set it slightly higher it might solve the problem that way.... Hi Danny have you had the break lights go on one of these I was looking at a 2014 model but the break lights were not working its been sitting idle for a maybe a year. I drove it and it was heaven to drive it is auto matic but you can change it over to manual with gear leavers on the steering wheel. Have you experience with automatic/ manual berlingos ? Is it really bad to buy a desiel thats been sitting idle for months. I ran a diagnostics test on it and no errors came up. There was a yellow triangle on the display but that turned off i think i may have cleared it by the diagnostics tool. An engine error came up on the big display to the left of the steering wheel but it then turned off. I am going to try and get it through a pre nct test thats the national car test in Ireland. Do you know where the brake lights fuse is on the 2014 model?

    • @projectfearn

      The engine should be spot on. As for the electrics my only worry when a car has been sat is mice chewing things but before you panic I would litrally start with the fuse, check the bulbs and also that no water is getting to the connection block. @@xboxclubclips7181 I have that engine and if you use the gearbox properly it has no issues climbing a strong slope in the motorway when full at 90/100 km/h. That engine gives peak torque at 3500 rpm and peak horsepower at around 5000 rpm, so when you need power to go uphill, or acceleration for an overtake you'll need to shift down a few gears. It has more than enough power at lower speeds / lower gears, but upwards of 120/130 km/h it's not very agile. It's just not a car to go fast, but it's very fun to drive. Also when cruising at lower rpms it is very economical, but if you need to rev it up it starts chugging quite a lot more fuel.

      Multispace pal but its in very good condition. New timing belt, water pump . I getting a new clutch in it tho . So its costing me £350 .. so overall going to stand me properly around 700 .

      Yeah. I got 100k out of my clutch before I had to switch it out. Going to be doing the clutch myself on the blue one I have along with the timing belt etc 😎
