Got the earlier model of this a 1,6 petrol 60k miles then. Bought 6 yrs ago for £2200 sliding doors for my elderly parents. Never had a thing go wrong except back box. Many more miles now. Totally fantastic versatile car. Borrowed by many and piss taken out by the same until they borrowed it. I was expecting electrical gremlins - none. Underneath no rust, smooth, economical, reliable comfy as heck and practical. So good I have kept it as a spare car for anyone in the family. £126 insurance and bad news of £336 road tax. Tyres £40 a piece. Had sofa, double bed 5 bikes etc etc. not desirable but very much do it all truck. Heard bad things about diesels if not maintained and auto boxes. . Mine 100% more than I can say for Vw and Audi. Mine not got single spec rust anywhere a2007. Car was bought with cambelt and water pump at 60k … due another soon. Very accessible and will do my own. @@histriamagna1014 I didn’t intend to buy it except to help my parents get in and out of car. But will now keep it until it dies. It cant tow much and safety would be bad I think
I had a Berlingo on a holiday in France and it was The greatest family mover I could ever want. Quite comfy and easy to drive too. I must be getting old, but I think they are great 'real world' cars for daily use.
My dad had an earlier model that he bought new. When he passed away in 2017 it had clocked 225,000 miles. Apart from wear and tear items and servicing it never cost him anything! Its still going to this day! I bought one based on his experience and its been brilliant! Such a good workhorse!
Matt, thease videos ARE more exciting than you think. Especially when you review cars we've never seen stateside, like this Berlingo. My whole life (to my wife's displeasure), I have bought old, cheaper cars and enjoyed the process of fixing them up, selling them and moving on to the next. Actually, I'm able to get my fix by watching your videos. Well...not really, because the car buying bug is an illness for which there is no cure. But - watching you buy cars I'll never hope to own makes yours my favorite TH-cam channel. So keep them coming!
Another video that just draws you in. I'm sure this has been said many times, Matt, but you have the knack of making it feel you are just having a chat with me in the passenger seat, rather than your thousands of viewers. Quite the skill, and a very charismatic approach. My missus is a fan, too, and she finds cars interminably dull.Must be the boyish good looks and the razor sharp quiff... Keep up the good work.
I've said the same before. It's like he knows you and very welcoming. I bet Matt is a good salesman too! I too have a similar vehicle that people mock. A mk 4 mondeo 225k plus and climbing. Maintained by myself. You keep that workhorse going pal 👍 don't ever sell it 😅

I have one, a 2010 model, had it 10 years now and its on 155000 miles. Serviced every year and totally reliable despite being used as a van, would definitely recommend and have another one.
I owned a 2011 XTR 112 HP Hdi. It was the most practical family hauler you can think of. The only downside was the noisy ride on the highway due to lack od good sound insulation. I miss him so much. Happy 180.000 km with no faults. And it was clean inside😊
I had the van version 2013 with the later 8v engine with crew cab (no cam chain issues). Was the best vehicle i’ve ever owned. Absolutely bulletproof, it did 230k before I sold it, it’s still on the road and I have requested first refusal on it because I loved it so much. A few tips, the seats are a sponge for dust, the steering wheel can be replaced with one off a 307/207 GT which is leather trimmed (the airbag with the Citroen badge remains so it looks OEM). If you fit slightly oversized tyres on the front 205/60/R15 (off the top of my head) you get slightly better fuel economy at 65-70mph. Also with the aggressive the suspension rake it has on the high weight van models (850kg payload) it also levels out the ride height front to rear and looks better and drives better imo. Avoid the robotised manual, they’re expensive when (not if, when) they go wrong and even changing things like the clutch/fork is more expensive. Rear discs have bearings in them so they’re expensive. The other issue is on the white vans they look like they’ve been whitewashed by a teenager from texas. It just falls off. The engines are also tuneable, especially the older 16v. I had mine running it almost 190bhp and it flew! When it wasn’t towing a 1t trailer😂. Replaced it with a Land Cruiser and would have the Berlingo back for day to day driving for sure. It even handled well with Michelin PS4s on it!
Love my Berlingo - best car I’ve ever had! And over the past few months, your videos have inspired me to smarten it up with a new wing mirror, new number plates, some minor bodywork touch ups, a set of tailored mats and a good clean!
Depends what you want a vehicle for. Many of us simply use a car as the tool it really is - not as a posing pouch. For that purpose, van derived cars are ideal carrying stuff and people from A to B, bikes, kids, stuff.
These things don't feel the strongest but they can take some serious abuse. We have had 3 vans and a tepee mobility version. Both diesels and petrols. Amazingly practical things.
A nice cheap upgrade on these is the steering wheel. You can get a nice leather one of the 206, C3 etc from the scrapyard for a few quid and it instantly lifts the interior. The one size fits all within PSA works in your advantage because the Berlingo and Partner leather steering wheels are usually sold for higher £ then the 206, C3 ones.
it will sell quick as its what folk need , 1.6hdi needs to be serviced no later than what the book says , had one 9 years for work (van version) long live the Berlingo (could be Citroens best car) even Clarkson rated them years ago
I have the Peugeot Partner previous version with the same 1.6HDi. Had it from new and it’s now on 420,000km. Fantastic car. While some of the trim is a little fragile, its van underpinnings are robust. It’s never needed any bushings, shocks, springs, joint boots or anything like that. Although it does live in the drier southern France and is always undercover. Blew the turbo at around 250k but it was worth the 1k spend to get that replaced. Great car for everything we throw at it. Not surprising if your newer version flies off the forecourt.
I have had two Berlingo s. Fantastic car or van. I love it. Now done 82,000 . A 12 plate. 2litre diesel . I get 600 miles per tank. It's a semi automatic, Air con been repaired and front main springs replaced in the last year. Wonderful to drive., very quiet , smooth. A Joy I find.
My friend has one of these. Really practical car, we can get our mountain bikes in the back and it’s excellent for tip runs as they don’t allow vans into the tip. They are very popular in France.
The three separate and easily removable seats in our Allure spec one are great for carrying single or pairs of bikes, add a tip away towbar rack a and you can make it clear 4 bikes and still open the tailgate!! Otherwise - the separate opening tailgate window is your friend! We have managed three bikes on the roof and 4 on the towbar!!
I really like the Berlingo. Very VERY practical and can be had as an EV. Even used ones like this in XTR trim don’t look too shabby as well. I love the new one as well and it can be had as an EV. Although it is just a Peugeot Partner/ Vauxhall - Opel combo/ Toyota Proace/ Fiat Doblo/ too many sibling cars😂
My father in law had a Berlingo for a couple of years and loved it and both my brother in laws have one right now and love them too because they are workhorses that can do it all and they have all been really reliable too. You really cant do much better if you want space and practicality.
I have huge respect for these, the 1.6 diesel is unstoppable, they're easy to drive and they're practical. French motoring done right. Shame we can't say the same about the rest of them.
I have an older one of these. Love my cars and bikes, have quite a lot of toys in various states of repair and modification, but the Berlingo is what i use when i dont want to be into my cars and just throw my tools in the boot and go to work or chuck my kayak on the roof and not care if i scratch the paint.
I have an older relative with a nice older Berlingo. She loves the car and has had it for over ten years. Well taken care off. The luggage space is huge. She likes that everyone in the family visits as soon as they want to borrow the car to transport something. 😀
We had a van version for 2-3 years. We came from a Volvo XC70 and moved on to a V70. The Berlingo didn't stand out as lacking in cargo space. Maybe they don't have it in the Multispace version but you didn't mention the cavernous centre console (which we called the oubliette) and which was much bigger than either Vovlo's offering. Good low sill for aged dogs.
I always fancied a Berlingo as a replacement for my Omega Estate. But the Mrs threatened divorce every time I mentioned it. Having been married for nearly 30 years, at times it's really tempting to get one! 😊
Way better value for money than a van. Daughter’s just bought one for, you guessed it, her dog walking business! You get loads of space, comfortable seats, flexible layout ( the rear seats have quick release so can be taken out easily) reasonably economical and it’s not a van!
my mate has one which he bought brand new in 2015 - 1.6 petrol...….all he has spent on it was a yearly service........still on original brake pads, etc. Its been used for everything and still looks good - no stone chips, rust blisters, etc. He never washes his car so its never been washed in 8 yrs...therefore no car wash swirls or scratches - interiors like a skip....currently 90k on clock.....he said he's keeping it until it dies......normally he would change cars every year......his Citroen mechanic is amazed how good it looks LOL
Bought my berlingo new 2015 for my taxi buisness, 312,000 miles just had 2nd clutch purrrs like a kitten 60 mpg not pretty but a great workhorse just keep up with the oil changes, great video matt.
I thought I’d listen to something different in my car on my drive home , so I played this through bluetooth. Couldn’t see the pictures but knowing Matt’s format , it made for an enjoyable listen. My son has the van version of this , been very reliable but it does resemble a wheelie bin inside.
You’re posts are not boring Matt. Fact is, we often don’t know which way it’s going to go, be it a scrapper, chucked back into the trade or one that’ll end up on your forecourt. The surprise on this one? You didn’t overspend and hopefully made a healthy decent profit. Keep these coming, yes it’s hard work but hey, you might even turn up on the telly one day 😁
Iv driven the van version and for a van they do drive really well. The car version is hard to get hold of as lots in south west are converted to mobility spec, also driven by lots of elderly people. But you can see why, its easy to get in and out of, sliding rear doors, no nonsense layout and controls and a huge boot that'll swallow wheel chairs, mobility scooters and shopping. People seem to want them and those who have them tend to keep hold of them.
My dad used to have a 2010 partner tepee ... i learned how to drive in it they are a good family van/car very practical and they are perfect for family road trips ... we used to drive it for vacation from my city Constantite ( Algeria ) up to the west borders to a city called Tlemcen which is 1200 km ( 600 miles away ) ... yeaaah those sweat old days ❤
The 1.6BlueHDI from Citroen is bullet-proof. We had it in a 2019 Berlingo. We ran it for 110,000 miles in only 3 years - we abused it and it never let us down once. We actually drove it for 10,000 miles with oil so low the dipstick would come out completely dry - yet it never broke down. We've got a new van with the new 1.5BlueHDI now - it's based on the old 1.6. Lets hope its just as good. Will definitely be looking after this new one.
So pleased you made a few quid on this car. So enjoy these weird car vids, these cars are what normal people drive and it is fun to see them scrubbed up and back on the market for Joe Soap to buy and love. Cant beat a square car- they always look charming.
Used car prices in my country seems to be getting even more insane than the UK. Second hand Berlingo 2009 in average condition with 200k km is close to 4000 Pounds (converted from the local currency). Hell, 2 to 3 years old cars with 50 or 60k km are sold for the price of brand new one.
I used to use an older versions of these for work back in the early 2000s and I was always impressed by them. They were pretty comfortable and decent to drive for a cheap van and would go to high mileages despite being worked hard.
Berlingos are great, doesn’t really matter if they’re a bit scruffy for the majority of owners, just provided they’re mechanically sound. I had an earlier one with the 1.6 petrol engine, thirsty but much nicer then the diesel engines, just smoother and “quicker”, wish they had used the 136 PS HDI engine because it’s loads better, used it to carry PA equipment around and it did a much better job than any estate car, PA kit can be REALLY heavy and it’s top heavy too so you can feel it in the handling in a car, the Berlingo just felt safer and more stable.
Great video. These Berlingo's (and Peugeot Partners/ Rifters) are brilliant. Good strong vehicles. I have one as a daily drive and as you say great for moving stuff around, going to the tip etc. Mine is a 2016 so has aircon. Actually really comfortable and I've taken it to France twice where, as you say, they are everywhere! PSA diesel engine is great and I get 55mpg. Great video Matt. Vive la Citroen Berlingo!
I have a Peugeot version of this, same age, same mileage, same broken armrests, same manky steering wheel and love it. It starts every time never lets me down cheap to run. I have the 7 seat version it needs suspension link bars most MOTs and yes both the original keys fell to bits!
I've no use for one but there is something weirdly likeable about these. Picturing trundling around France at 25mph with a load of picnic and camping gear in the back. Same vibe as the old Twingos.
Don't keep knocking them. Berlingos are very good useful cars. We are a family of three and two small dogs. When we go away anywhere, in addition to our luggage we need to take a wheelchair plus halogen oven, slow cooker etc oxygen concentrator - things that take up a lot of space. The Berlingo takes it all and still leaves us room to sit comfortably.
A practical no frills little workhorse this car but honest transport for someone. You didn't massively overspend! I've notfied the media as that has to be news🤣 Anyway definitey some profit in this one for you which will make a nice change👍
Bought my Berlingo in 2014. Best car I have ever had. Beautiful to drive. Lots of room for back seat passengers and luggage. Can accomodate a 10 ft. length of timber. This is what a car should be!
By the time the video came out, the Berlingo disappeared from the autopeaks website after being there for a week or so. It appears to be sold. Good job!
I got one of these as a temporary measure to cart crap about. It doesn't ooze sex but it's a bloody good car..gets my bike in without taking wheels off, 60mpg, 30 quid road tax. Good drive and its a bloody belter. Great review of a real world car.
I have 4 of those little doors in the roof lining, they are for an internal roof rack. I bought my 63reg Partner Tepee Outdoor as unaltered motability vehicle in 17. Still only got 55,000 on it, just done cam belt etc and a full service, just needs front discs now. But it’s Euro 5 so I have to decide the best time to get rid at the best price. Absolutely love it, older relatives can access easily.
I've got a citroen Berlingo van on just under 80k miles on a 2015 plate, and a peugeot partner on a 2014 plate on 245k miles! Same vehicle, different badge. Love them
Matt (repeatedly over past few years': 'French cars are the worst'. Also Matt: (rare smile on face, finally turning a good profit): 'They're alright these really aren't they' A decent Berlingo will do that you - they really are the best basic form of transport out there!
You cannot get a crap electric bike for £1400 let alone a Berlingo we bought a 2012 1.6 HDI Multispace one owner full service record 5.5 years ago for £ 1,950 plus import duty £ 1.978 we now have 182000 Miles on it never once let us down admired by many its the Plus version LOVE IT.
My dad taxied 2 of these, very reliable and if I ever got the chance to drive them found them good to drive quite punchy for what they are. Congrats on the great turnaround of this one, someones gonna get a real nice motor
My dad needed a car that could carry a mobility scooter without taking it apart. Found a 2012 semi auto with 45k last may…… paid £5800 and only problem was sometimes it wouldn’t change up past 3rd in auto. Turned out it was the brake pedal switch and since changing it been perfect. Can’t find one identical for less than 7k now with similar miles.
My friends Mrs has one she shows dogs. So much versatility in a practical package. Good to see you not getting an expensive surprise for a change. Keep em coming I find all your videos interesting and entertaining.
Last month bought a 2007 multispace for 800 euro 150000 miles clean enough for the age, tape on my 1 key air bag light is on and needed new coils,I was on the look out for a hyundai matrix but couldn’t find a good one, very happy with the berlingo
I had a Berlingo van for 3 years from new . I liked it , even if stupid things broke like the heater matrix blowing up and filling the cab with steam . Went to Transit connect and never looked back .
Love it! Upon finding evidence of a cambelt and waterpump change....." I'm going to buy it a new steering wheel" and "they're not bad these" It's amazing how much even more up beat you became!😊 I suppose that's the point you know.... Profit possible! 😁👍 Well done Matt, keep up the good work 👏
It’s cars like this that I really look forward to seeing. Great turn around and gotta say it looks really smart at the end. Great vid as always Matt, keep ‘m coming 👍🏻
watch for loose injectors. watch for burnt out heater fan relay or resistor unit. front abs sensors can give trouble due to rust under where they mount, pushing them away from the bearing ring.. indicator stalks can go floppy. good cars though.
Yeah I love the utility of these van cars but I’ll stick to my Ford Galaxy. Would love to see a video about the Galaxy actually. Im assuming you get them come through your garage. I just serviced my auto gearbox at 170,000km as I wasn’t sure was it ever done based on your advice of servicing auto boxes. Ford we’re the only ones I could get to touch it but happy it’s done. Only a 2016 with 184,000km on the clock so hoping it’ll run a number of years yet. Well serviced so fingers crossed!
Peugeot 207 steering wheel is a direct fit and matches up to the airbag perfectly. That dash trim has been spray painted, they don’t come like that from factory.
@tomjardine100 ,well, I've owned Citroën 5 tourer for the last 9 years, and I've done 118 thousand miles on it and no electrical issues whatsoever. Before that, I've owned Fiat Panda for a while and had no electrical issues either.
Hi Alex. Brit in the Netherlands, here. I’m always a little shocked at the state of the roads when I visit the UK. At least the UK has some interesting riding roads, though. That’s not really the case over here in NL, as you noticed 😂.
We had a First Gen Berlingo in our Family for over TWENTY years, and it has only stranded us twice in total. What i loved about it was you kept a sorta car-like driving position, what the second gen sadly lacks. Otherwise i'd have definetely looked into that.
Had a Xreg Berlingo when two of my children were in Uni, great for moving all the gear they accumulate. Also the air con was very useful when travelling to Cornwall from Lincolnshire. Only issue I had with it was front coil springs breaking, not great at 70 on the A1. This happened a couple of times and was told it was a common fault. I now have a C4 and fortunately have not experienced this problem.
I love these things, and have had two of 'em. They're so achingly uncool that they are, in a perverse manner, cool. I referred to mine as 'lifestyle vehicles', which suggests that my lifestyle is akin to Claude Greengrass, which might not be too far off the truth. They're roomy, have a good driving position, cheap to run, elicit no envy, and are unlikely to ever get stolen. Definitely not magnifique, but very much tres bon.
First Jimmy you have made a good margin. The difference between your costs and selling price is not your profit which will be a lot less. Talk to your accountant. Second you do get your valeting and bodywork cheap. Would cost three times that ere down saaf. Lastly you are absolutely right to have the car cleaned before you hand it to the techies. Context is everything and the best way to tune your car is to valet it. They go better and have less faults afterwards. Number plates and two keys is good selling too. Hope you get your price.
After lots of procrastination I finally got around to fitting a leather steering wheel to my 2010 184,000 mile XTR. I got it from a Peugeot 207 CC in U-Pullit here in Fife. tbh I was a bit miffed they charged me £30 for it when I had to remove it myself, but it has transformed the interior of the car. The old steering wheel was in a terrible state. Quite a simple job that you can find on someone else’s YT video.
I forgot to add my mechanics bill to the grand total 🤦🏼♂️ Please add £154 to my sums or knock £154 off my profit 😂
Brilliant. It’s still a double-up. Chip the £99 worst a double or take a swapper and go forth
Didnt add in the arm rests either - did you find it and just fit them or did you buy replacements?
Another great video Matt always a pleasure to get the notification a new HPA upload is waiting 👌🏻
what about the arm rests?
That mechanics bill seems very reasonable Matt. Were the advisories addressed? So cheap for a cv boot and corrosion issues.

Best CAR!! on the planet I've had 2 of them!
The berlingo is a keeper.....just saying.
Way better value for money than a van. Daughter’s just bought one for, you guessed it, her dog walking business! You get loads of space, comfortable seats, flexible layout ( the rear seats have quick release so can be taken out easily) reasonably economical and it’s not a van!
I had the model before this one. It was awesome! Not a looker, but it was comfy and besides the real axle pretty trouble free. And super practical.
my mate has one which he bought brand new in 2015 - 1.6 petrol...….all he has spent on it was a yearly service........still on original brake pads, etc.
Another spot on video Matt. I must say that I find it strangely satisfying turning my daughters VW dustbin back into a VW Up, when she visits.
Well done Matt. You forgot to mention how you got the driver's armrest.
My Partner (same car) has 278,000 on the clock now. New drivers seat and a clutch. Well pleased !
Thanks Matt, love these cheap n cheerful vlogs of yours, always the optimism 😊
What I love about your videos is even if your buy the same model car again, it has a different story to tell! Excellent entertainment 👍
I have no idea why I enjoy your videos about relatively dull every day cars so much. But I do. Actually I love them. Keep up the great work.
Glad you like them!
Loving the consistency Matt your videos have become my go-to evening entertainment.
Thanks!
By the time the video came out, the Berlingo disappeared from the autopeaks website after being there for a week or so. It appears to be sold. Good job!
It sold a couple of days ago
I had a two litre Berlingo multispace with a full sun roof, finished with pearlescent paint. I kept it in pristine condition. It was a great car.
I got one of these as a temporary measure to cart crap about. It doesn't ooze sex but it's a bloody good car..gets my bike in without taking wheels off, 60mpg, 30 quid road tax. Good drive and its a bloody belter. Great review of a real world car.
Mat,
The steel plate at the back of the tow-hitch, is a foldable, detachable, bike rack attachment.
I have one, they're brilliant.
Love them
I love seeing your commitment to these cars you are a "car whisper" great videos each and every time.
Matt (repeatedly over past few years': 'French cars are the worst'. Also Matt: (rare smile on face, finally turning a good profit): 'They're alright these really aren't they'
A decent Berlingo will do that you - they really are the best basic form of transport out there!
Can't go wrong with a multispace, had two and I'd strongly consider another.
Last month bought a 2007 multispace for 800 euro 150000 miles clean enough for the age, tape on my 1 key air bag light is on and needed new coils,I was on the look out for a hyundai matrix but couldn’t find a good one, very happy with the berlingo
Just traded in our trusty berlingo for a 2019 berlingo xl flair and making into a micro camper x
Sensible, practical vehicle, hopefully that will sell without much of a problem.
I had a Berlingo van for 3 years from new .
I liked it , even if stupid things broke like the heater matrix blowing up and filling the cab with steam .
Went to Transit connect and never looked back .
Yeh no need to with steel back doors👍🤓
Love it!
Upon finding evidence of a cambelt and waterpump change....." I'm going to buy it a new steering wheel" and "they're not bad these"
It's amazing how much even more up beat you became!😊
I suppose that's the point you know.... Profit possible! 😁👍
Well done Matt, keep up the good work 👏
That’s right. I knew there was a bit of hope
Really happy for you Matt that this one brought you luck. It’s about time. Great practical car! Great entertaining channel.
Thanks! 👍
Love the colour description , "dusty blue" . That is right up there with misty buff or mint sunrise.
Great video again. Loved it.
😅
A very utilitarian vehicle and they always find buyers. Function over form.
Berlingo's are very good news IMO. Nice one Matt.
I like this van, nice score, easy flip and so versatile, Nice break from the low budget city cars.
Good call on the keys, nothing says unloved and uncared for like one key.
Peugeot 207 steering wheel is a direct fit and matches up to the airbag perfectly. That dash trim has been spray painted, they don’t come like that from factory.
French and Italian cars are such a good value. And reliability is unbeatable. No German car can beat them reliability wise.
Must be a joke surely? french and italian cars have dreadful electrical issues
This channel just keeps getting better. A real inspiration.
These are great, practical, roomy and frugal with the diesel. Tidy it up, remove the tow bar, and it’s gone!
Thank you for helping me buy a decent second hand car, great informative videos.
Same achilles heel on its smaller sibling, the Nemo / Bipper / Qubo.
Have you checked the floor bins under the mat in the back for any hidden 'treasure'? I sold these new, brilliant buses
Круто, поздравляю с покупкой! Удачи на дорогах с новым Citroen Berlingo! 🚗💨
Its the newer version of Bella (HubNut's Berlingo)
Nah matt spent a lot less than Ian’s heap😂😂😂
Hahaha
you are one amazing person and good at your job l wish I was like you keep up the good work you do,
this is the one Ian wanted the multispace...but its in too good nick for ian lol
Prefer the look of Ian’s but bless him he doesn’t get the best examples!
207 GTI steering wheels are about £25 and much cheaper than looking for a replacement Berlingo one. Airbag is a direct fit
Quite a simple job that you can find on someone else’s YT video.
yet another superb video from matt...... loving the simplicity of your videos 👌👌
