    One reason I respect France (as in administration) is that it doesn't always follows USA, unlike many in EU/Europe given different reasons. Remember when USA put sanctions on India and France didn't follow. France is right, think about EU as a standalone entity, not always in the context of USA-EU or NATO.

Macron's EU plans are posturing, not unlike Sakozy's or Hollandes. He didn't achieve anything on europe during his first 5 years of power, because germany opposed it, and they'll keep doing so.

      @@hermes6910 Germany just happens to be better than other European countries at many things, that's why they're powerful. If Germany truly wanted to dominate Europe, it wouldn't be begging for the US to keep its presence in Europe, have foreign troops on its soil, would've left NATO, wouldn't be holding back its own military potential. If Germany wanted to, it could have a stronger and larger military than Russia and France. It would've been demanding the return of East Prussia and its eastern territories now occupied by Poland, etc.
      You take modern-day Germany for granted. Have you even met Germans? They have no interest in dominating anyone, they're hesitant to show love of their own country, the German government fears its own military and purposefully keeps it in a pitiful state. Trust me, if Germany was out for the domination of Europe, things would be a LOT worse.

      Maybe it’s because France doesn’t like to fight a battle that is too early or without a plan. Europe is not ready for a world war and frankly, it doesn’t need to be because we can contain our enemies puppets like Russia, so why escalate tensions for a war that may either never come or is unavoidable but can be fought in the shadows without weaning oneself?
      Why go to war with China ( rhetorically ) when you can sell in secret? Not everyone wants to afford to be as brutish as Washington in their diplomacy. Some people prefer… Subtlety.

    I think that Macron would be preferable as a European or world leader over the US. The US is nosey and interferes in the internal affairs of other nations in the name of human rights and democracy. The US government is the salesman for the military industrial complex in the US. Create tension all over the world and sell weapons to fighting nations.
    France hasn’t shown such hegemonic tendencies. Macron has also firmly dealt with the Islamic extremism in France. Besides, if the Europe and the US are distanced, it is better for the other countries. Their foreign policy and the security concerns need be framed to please the US.

      You watch too much liberal media. Go look at which nations run most of the NGO's and non profits the US ciphers money to in the name of human rights and democracy. Besides the US is not a democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic. If we are spreading Democracy that should tell you who told us to get involved. We are just the backbone of the EU will. UK is the finance and I am sure some day you will figure out the rest. Luckilly till this point we are still alowed our current system. No single entity has enough resources to rule the world on their own. It requires a collective and sorry to break it to you but the EU is is literally most our families so it is kind of a special relationship albeit, we all have our own interests in the world. Islamic extremeism is way less of an issue than the spread of Communism in the West right now due to political business interests with China. If you want someone who may have ties to Communists ideology in charge, do you. Perhaps it is best not to look to the US for any kind of leadership until we have a republican in office either way.

Despite the abandonment, the French covered the retreat of the English after their permits to evacuate all their troops and part of the French route which then left alone in France to weaken the Germans but only the English remained hiding behind the sea (al shelter from the blitzkreg therefore) alone and cease to the industrial delay in France. They will be. Not immediately but here is the thing, with essentially more than 75% of the countries voters backing parties supporting the EU, Russia forcing action and the USA focusing on Asia, Berlin is out of options. Well, not theoretically but practically.
      Also, I would second economic backbone but you can drop a few other names on that list too and it’s the union of the French geopolitical drive and German economic capabilities that give this "power-couple" its weight.

    During the colonial era, France gave asylum to many Indian freedom fighters including Aurobondo Ghosh, Subramaniya Bharati and members of my family in Pondicherry. There's a reason why India never asked the French to leave and they left on their own in 1963, under the most cordial of terms with India. It would be good for WION to remember that. In recent years France has fought ISIS / Daesh and other terror groups hard in the Barkhane. it has provided a very valuable audi alteram partem distinction between its policies and those of the United States. In Lebanon when the Saudis got Hariri to resign by force, it was Macron who traveled to Riyadh and told the Saudis bluntly that they had no business changing the leadership of another country.
    While I don't care about Macron and am hoping that Eric Zemmour is the next French President, the fact is that France deserves a bigger role in global politics than it currently has. The United States (of which I am a citizen) deserves to have an ally that thinks independently and that can occasionally even show up flaws in DC echo chamber thinking. That's how true friendships work. Britain is America's poodle. France deserves to be much more than that.

    Interesting report: firstly, knowone in Europe save Germany has the will , structure or power should they choose to exercise it - to formulate a genuine modern European Army, as it would be best organized along with the supporting economic infrastructure to make it happen and sustain it should it actually go to war. Second, and to be clear, I'm not referring to some authoritarian lone figure - dictatorial scenario alla hitler, this would be a real , genuine collaborative military alliance probably running through the existing Nato infrastructure albeit without the US involvement. Now, this could be good for Europe as an exercise in forming an independent and effective military group designed to be a genuinely capable block capable of resisting both threats - the russians and chinese which would free the US and smaller allies - like my Canada, and the Pacific nations to represent a "second" or "primary" front giving Nato/UN military planners options. What do you think?

  • @aniksamiurrahman6365
    @aniksamiurrahman6365 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tough luck Europe. It's questionable, how much a declining Europe can achieve by pitting against a rising Asia and already powerful US. The only thing might happen is that rising military spending will drain all the fund henceforth used on social benefits, healthcare and education or research. Will the increasingly older European population be able to actually carry this burden? I deeply doubt.

    • @Arcaryon
      @Arcaryon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You overestimate the benefits of a large population on the long term.
      Technology gets more and more complex and humans decline in worth.
      Having less people is a going to be a blessing. Look at the USA. Not even half of Chinas population and yet, a much higher standard of living. And thanks to nukes, no army or navy dares to touch you.
      Europe is not declining, the world has just catchend up and we are simply not trying to dominate the globe these days because why invade when you can trade?
      Rising military spending also usually means that people in power use it. So you can expect European interventionism to develop, except unlike the USA, France/Europe is ( forced to be ) far more pragmatic in its approaches, less global and far more willing to actually commit.
      All we want is a relative degree of control to ensure continued or even reestablish stability in strategic key regions in North Africa/ West Africa / Middle East so nothing spills over as it did in recent history.
      We are not going to abandon the USA either but we also don’t want nearly as much control over the world as Washington.
      You think too global. The European Union has no designs on rivaling Asia, only Russia and perhaps some lesser dictators. That’s why it works, because it’s realistic and doesn’t try to dominate everything in its theoretical spheres of influence.
