As a former diplomat and a postgraduate in international relations and EU institutions I can fully corroborate what Professor Sachs is saying.
I too have a background in international political science and have been following the evolution of this conflict since the violent, U.S. sponsored coup in 2014. I fully agree with Professor Sachs. By the way, Democracy now was very slow to understand what is really going on in this conflict.

I have to agree with this assessment of US foreign policy. It's just not really a policy but to my simple mind just the continuation of the superiority complex of of the English speaking peoples which was so against my religious beliefs. I saw it and heard in Vietnam, in the invasion of Granada, in the refusal to accept other people choosing a form of government and an economic approach that was of their view of how it was best for them to pursue. It seems that "...life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness..." was written for only the American people and of those Americans that were truly American. Arrogant, and greed underpins this outlook and clearly goes against what many Americans still believe the US stands for. That false understanding is falling apart under the most inept administration in US history.

The USA knows very well that we could change to a more cooperative system, but that would undermine their power. That's why they spend so much on the military, they will (try to) destroy everything that could compete with them, even if it's by force.

I have heard Jeffrey Sachs speak here on TH-cam and elsewhere before and he is absolutely right in what he says. He has the broad experience around the globe dealing in various ways with foreign governments and a excellent intelligence and balanced outlook on foreign and domestic affairs. It's to bad to few people in positions of power in the U.S. and now EU do nearly the exact opposite of what he says and has attempted for more than thirty years to change a escalating, bad situation.
