I'm 60 and when I was in high school and college I worked as a caddy at a country club in NJ. Back then, and we're talking the end of the 70's and early 80's, the big brands were Wilson and MacGregor. Then Ping came along with the Ping Eye irons and change irons forever and Taylor Made came along with the first metal driver and changed drivers forever. Warms my heart to see those classic brands coming back with some great equipment at relatively reasonable prices.
Absolutely awesome Gabe! Just imagine if your game was spot on and you were warmed up and you had the full set of clubs? After playing 10 or 12 games with them and a person got accustomed to the distances imagine the golf you can play and since you conquered your tougher holes with only a half a set… That really says something. Sure a person can play a more player‘s club but when you think of it through those nine holes, would you still have played at even-level par? Or would you have possibly been one or two over. Wilson was the very first clubs I played back when I was 17 years old, I’m 59 now and I haven’t played them since I was about 21 years old. I could go and play a full set of Wilson clubs any day after seeing the positive reviews and… hats off, WELCOME BACK WILSON👍
Gabe, when you decided to do this video it was for the majority of your subscribers, but in the back of your mind, subconsciously you was thinking John Cooper in Thailand, these are without doubt the clubs for you.
So awesome seeing W/S getting some positive press this year. Everyone is loving the new drivers as well. I game a fitted set of D7 Forged 5-P and they are dart throwers. So great. Even 100% fitted and customized, I saved $$ over anything else I tested. Amazing value + actual proven performance = win.
Mr. Gabe, another enlightening and entertaining video. Kudos to you on even par with a half of a set of clubs that you are unfamiliar with. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome job Gabe! Don't ever underestimate Wilson. They were a top player back in the day. It's so fun hitting goals not in just golf but in life general. With the right tools anything is possible!
DAMN Gabe... Glad to see you took my suggestion that you could play a round of golf with just a partial set of the Wilson Dyna-Power Clubs if you were hitting them so good... I'm HONORED!!! I said to play a round just using a Driver, 3-W or 5-W, 3, 5, 7 and 9 irons, PW or GW, SW and a putter... So, 9 clubs!!!
I’m 57 years old and when my Dad started me playing at 10 years of age my first set which I still have was Ram Junior Senator Irons. They were a beginners set which contained a Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3i, 5i, 7i, 9i and a putter. I think back in my memories and I believe it would be better to go back to that set up, but in modern lofts.
I wanted an easy to hit 5 iron to add to my set of Ping irons so I purchased a Wilson Dynapower 5 iron. It is easy to hit and long. I'm an 11 handicap and at 73 years of age I needed a forgiving long iron, these clubs are everything he says they are.
I collected clubs for awhile. I rechromed/shafted 1973 Staff dyna's fluid feels and 1969 Bulletbacks...played them for years just for fun. Not long or forgiving, but my swing improved during those years. Hats off to Wilson for coming back into the game with some good clubs again.
Gabe, this clearly shows that being able to hit the ball further for a given iron is a huge advantage. Some of it however is placebo effect because for example the 7 iron you hit has the loft AND length of a 6 iron. Regardless I’m in for clubs that put out this type performance. Just get the correct shaft flex and you will tighten dispersion without much sacrifice on distance. Regarding the half set, months ago I commented on the channel that I had moved to playing with half a set about 5 years ago and my handicap never been lower. I get to know each club so much better and have to manufacture half shots etc. Awesome stuff.
Just purchased a set of Mizuno JPX923 Pro irons 5 - GW. The new lofts have attributed to dropping my handicap and recently played a 35 Par course at 1 under. Never broke par before in all my years of playing. I’m 72 and average driving distance is 245 yards. So with the correct shafts and proper setup, I’m getting dialed in. Made more birdies since I’ve got the new irons. Previous set were Mizuno JPX800 Pro Forged with Dynamic Gold S300 105 shafts but I was needing a bit more distance. I also put UST Recoil 95 F3 shafts in the new irons. Big difference in weight. I can really feel the head of the irons now and that is a big change. Ball strike in’s is much improved too. Great video Gabe. Keep them coming.
@@LetsPlayThru Gabe, the only point where my perspective differs from yours is on the “who are these clubs for” assessment. I’ve been a 5 to 7 handicap these last few years and think that regardless of handicap, as an amateur golfer, the more help you can get from your equipment the better chance you have to shoot lower scores. Yes there are feel shots (the typical chip off the green) that for me are better executed with a forged type clube; for everything else more power from the stick is a welcomed advantage. Where I have struggled with the equipment is when it comes to offset. I’m A right to left player and offset tends to hurt my dispersion.
So great Wilson are making some great products to shake up the big guys for a more realistic price point for most club players. As a previous wilson owner just wonder about durability for longer term . As the iron metals seem soft and didn't seem to last to my last two sets of pings
Just got a fitting and landed on this set of irons. Can't wait for my order to come in. There were a few I didn't vibe with (Aerojet and Paradym), but the Wilsons and Pings (G430) felt great. Edit: I'm a returning golfer after 10+ years. Don't even have a handicap yet, but I'd guess I'm somewhere between 15 and 20 (maybe a little higher). Might grow out of these in a year, but I'm totally fine with that.
Dude! You were stressing me out on 9…after seeing you putt the first 8! Great job! That was fun. Glad to see Wilson getting back in the game with some quality stuff…they were the top of the food chain way back…I still use some of their balls. Not a chunky offset club guy, but these look great for a high handicapper, or anyone who just wants to shoot the best score possible…for me, don’t care much about my score anymore. My good rounds are determined now by how many shots I hit pure, that give you that feel that makes you come back…if I can get a handful of those, it’s an under par round! Currently playing T100s irons and have a set of Mizuno 221s on the way…I also have a set of JPX 923 Hot Metal Pros that have the jacked lofts, but not really liking them much…too chunky and hot for me…but may get used to them for use in the winter time when distances go way down…
You continue to impress. Bravo! You said you had difficulty hitting a standard 4, 5, and 6 iron yet you struck the Wilsons pretty good. So, the Wilson 5 was equivalent to a standard 3? Oh, yeah, didn’t Arnie play Wilson’s back in the early 60s. Think Julius Boris won the PGA Championship with them.
"YOUR WRONG" about seniors, lower swing speeds can't keep spin and descent angles up with these irons. Driver speeds below 85 need more loft and " functional " distance....I'm a 69 year old 18 handicap, driver 87-90 mph...demo'd these outdoor's, guy's whose driver's were mid to high 90's were loving them.... Love your channel...
This video proves two things; 1) we play with to many clubs 2) Wilson are a great set of irons!!! Great video!! Keep up the great job reviewing clubs!!!
Glad you were able to hook up with John and get some Wilson clubs. I have played the D7 for about 3 years now and got the Dynapower Carbon Driver a few weeks back. Quality and value with Wilson are almost impossible to beat.
I was looking at a lot of different clubs and bigger names. The way you are able to genuinely explain every shot and make golf fun is the reason I went ahead and bought these on sale! Looking forward to trying them out! Keep up the fantastic work!
Just ordered a set of these after watching you video, lets hope they work half as good for me, 72 year old just back for a second season of golf after lengthy lay off! Thanks Dave in the UK
The issue is with the extended yardage comes a lot of room left to cover with the wedges. These days I'm carrying 5. PW is 44, then 48,52,56,60. When PW is going 140 yards it's either carry more wedges or be left with a lot of partial shots inside 140.
Wilson GI irons have always treated me VERY well. I have the D7 now with D200s w/graphites as my backup set. Great value and performance for high/mid handicappers.
Great analysis Gabe. I think you would have scored better if you could have had the whole set and they were fitted for you. But I do understand the premise of the video. I love Wilson products. I had a set of D 7’s but I couldn’t get over seeing the back of the cavity. I waited for the Dynapowers to come out and they looked the same to my eye. So I’m sticking with my Cleveland Launcher XL irons. They’re a little more sleeker. I do agree with you that Wilson has made a major comeback in the golf industry especially with that iron and woods. Keep up the great work!
I hope you can shed some light here. I am just over 70, currently playing Callaway X22's regular steel shaft. I am in the market to replace them, so this morning I tested a Ping G430 senior shaft 7 iron, and not only did I not like it I I was hitting my 15 year old X-22's a little longer. Now why would that be? I thought the Ping woulld blow past the old Callaway. Very confusing.
Great video well played , I have been looking to try the Dyna power irons. I play D 9,s with the KBS ultra lite steel shafts and are very good.we have them in our pro shop in Scotland.I think you have made my mind up now, also the Driver looks great ,thanks keep the good work up , 😀
Nice video, enjoyed watching you play even par. I had a similar round this week after not playing for two weeks shot one over on nine holes. Great video.
Fantastic review, I know you don’t like Cleveland Irons. But since I have been playing their wedges for years, I thought I would demo the irons. I found the Launcher XLs to be a very nice improvement iron for the mid to high handicapers. Not a chunky iron and not that harsh sound, a bit long on the head but not to bad. Just my opinion!
Agree with the other comments. My big question - you said these are for a 20 handicap, but if you are going to shoot even par with 1/2 a set why would these not be the clubs for you 🙂
i’m around a 15 handicap and just got these. played 1 round so far and it was the best i’ve hit the ball since i started playing the game. 29 years old
What ball did you use on the launch monitor? That triad is a "spinnier" golf ball so it could help counteract some of those numbers you saw in testing. I think it's also fair to point out it's still winter golf and when the summer brings firmer conditions the performance may suffer some. Still a great round and obviously the results were very very good
So explain to me, why do we base our club selection (what's in the bag) on what we think we should have in there, as opposed to results? I play the Wilson Ball also, huge fan, most underrated ball ever. Great review Gabe, congrats on even part with a 1/2 set. I think with a full set you would have eliminated 2 shots possibly..... Keep it up
Started back in July, I'm actually using a Wilson Staff SGi half set + a borrowed R1 driver. Officially index 43 back in October but actually around index 25 regarding the winter cup and personal best. Would this Dynapower set match my profile? +Titanium Driver? The price seems unbeatable also. Thanks for this amazing video anyway!
Another great, informational video Gabe! Have you considered doing any videos on combo iron sets? I'm considering a Gigagolf Pursuit CB/MB 510 combo set & would love to see a Let's Play Thru on those.
Ordered a set of these a couple of weeks ago. After watching your video I am very confident now of my choice 😊. Just need to decide which Driver to put in my bag. Probably end up with Wilson Carbon. 💪🏻
I went from a 27 to a 19 handicap this past season with my 22 year old irons, which I've decided to replace this winter. Would you recommend these or the D9's?
Awesome video, will you go for Dynapower Steel Irons or Dynapower Graphite Irons and What is your general opinion on iron vs graphite and flex vs regular vs stiff
Great review Gabe, I'm gaining the Cleveland halos They are so easy to hit , All my buddies tell me they're the ugliest things they've ever seen, I just tell them looks don't help my scorecard, Still waiting on your review for the new tour age C723 lineup !!!!
Ugly can be beautiful in golf. I play the LAB Directed Force putter. By far the most hideous looking thing. They guys at my club marvel about how ugly it is, until they've watched me putt with it for 5 or six holes, then they start asking where they can get one.
Great review. You had me sweating with you on that last putt, lol. I like the confidence factor with these clubs . I'm still waiting for the weather to improve to play my set.
Hi Gabe, love your videos especially here in the cold 🇬🇧! Love Wilson great clubs at great prices, sounds like you prefer these clubs to ones from the big four who are getting very expensive.
Whenever I am someplace and get a rental set of clubs, I often wonder why I don’t play them more often. But then I really miss the feel, workability and control that forged irons give me.
Congrats on 36! How do these compare to the TA 845 Max? I bought the TAs based on your reviews and that they dropped the price to $399 for steel & graphite. Would love your $0.02.
Congrats Tom, you've made an excellent choice. These clubs are really in a different category than the Takomos. These are geared at folks who need more ball speed and more forgiveness...higher handicap ranges.
Hey Gabe! Thank you for all the reviews and how engaging you are with your audience. I look forward to every episode you put out, as us “mere mortals” try to find all that is right in the world of golf…
Haven't played Wilson's in years but you really hit these well. Quick question; what is the hand held distance/ launch monitor that you use on the course. Thanks!
Hi I always love you're reviews .I really appreciate how u review other products and not always the super advertised ones.any interest in a review on the new ram fx77 irons .love the content either way .👍
Gabe, I have a question, I am a 27 handicap, I've been using one length clubs but I am not reaching the speeds needed for all the clubs, with that said I am looking to move to variable length clubs. Takomo 101 or Wilson dynapower?
Gabe you should put these up against the Cobra Rad speed irons. A deal given that they are a few seasons old. Virtually identical lofts and they fly high.
I'm 60 and when I was in high school and college I worked as a caddy at a country club in NJ. I thought it just had the loft, but the length of the 7 iron was the standard 7 iron length?
@@Iamwrongbut 37.5 was a traditional 6 iron length but of course companies have been progressively increasing lengths over the last few years.

Gabe, watching some of your videos from 2023. This one was a gem. Oh let’s not forget the Wilson Dynapower irons. Beasts!!!
Best clubs I’ve ever hit were Wilson D7 Forged Irons. Just amazing
Good video Gabe. I'll add Wilson to the clubs I look at in the future.

@@LetsPlayThru thank you 👍

Nice review. Can’t decide between these or the Cobra Air’s. Thanks.
Stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago. Gotta say, absolutely loving the content. Keep it up Gabe!!!!
I wonder how much those ultralight regular flex shafts are helping with the effortless distance in addition to the club head.
Awesome video, will you go for Dynapower Steel Irons or Dynapower Graphite Irons and What is your general opinion on iron vs graphite and flex vs regular vs stiff

You played some awesome golf today sir. Well done
Brilliant video Gabe. Always enjoy your reviews and chats. Wish we had some of that sun here in the UK😊. They do look like great clubs.
Congrats on 36! How do these compare to the TA 845 Max? I bought the TAs based on your reviews and that they dropped the price to $399 for steel & graphite. Would love your $0.02.
The profile of these clubs is larger by a good deal and really geared at a bit higher club.
Great review Gabe! How would you compare them to the Takomo 101's? I went with those. They are out for delivery this morning.
Congrats Tom, you've made an excellent choice. These clubs are really in a different category than the Takomos. These are geared at folks who need more ball speed and more forgiveness...higher handicap ranges.
Fun video today. It's fun seeing you do well.
Your vids are just SO MUCH FUN!!
Those clubs are awesome thanks for the great video!
Hey Gabe! Thank you for all the reviews and how engaging you are with your audience. I look forward to every episode you put out, as us “mere mortals” try to find all that is right in the world of golf…
I appreciate the kind words, Sean. Thank you for being part of the community.
Did you find those regular flex shafts to be flimsy and hurt accuracy at all?
Haven't played Wilson's in years but you really hit these well. Quick question; what is the hand held distance/ launch monitor that you use on the course. Thanks!
It’s called a Garmin G80
Hi I always love you're reviews .I really appreciate how u review other products and not always the super advertised ones.any interest in a review on the new ram fx77 irons .love the content either way .👍
What app did you use for the shot tracer view of each shot?
How do they compare to the D9’s ?
Best video yet, Wilson Staff better sponsor this man
Srixon ZX4 are best GI irons, in my opinion. Wilson’s look like a very good value.
I would love the Srixons but value on these seems to be hard to beat. Can get a set of these and a 3 wood same price
Great round Gabe.
Gabe, I have a question, I am a 27 handicap, I've been using one length clubs but I am not reaching the speeds needed for all the clubs, with that said I am looking to move to variable length clubs. Takomo 101 or Wilson dynapower?
Great video! Loved the last hole, it felt like I was watching the finishing hole of a major championship. 😂😂😂
Great review! Do you like these better than the Mizuno JPX 923? Thanks 🙏
Different category of club. These are aimed at a higher handicap for sure
@@LetsPlayThru I am late fifties and a bogie golfer. Which would you recommend the JPX 923 or these? Thanks 🙏
Good vid! Keep them coming. To be fair, you would have snagged any sized club head on that 9 iron swing, there was a small stick behind you
Gabe you should put these up against the Cobra Rad speed irons. A deal given that they are a few seasons old. Virtually identical lofts and they fly high.
What driver were you using? Great video!
What shaft are you using?
Should wait until the Kirkland 2023 irons come out. To really be sure. They are inexpensive and also are made really really nicely
Off the subject. Are you still playing a Mizuno ball for the season? Which OnCore did you game last year?
Have you done a review Athalonz shoes?
The man loves golf! Great ambassador of the game.
thank you have a great day
We’re those still the regular shafts and do you use stiffs on your regular set. Those distances are impressive
Great round !! I’m 74 play the D9 irons I like them 🏌️♂️
I love Wilson clubs. Been using tnem for nearly 30 years.
Do you recommend these Dynapower irons for seniors?
Absolutely, 100%
What is your swing speed? What can I expect with a slower swing speed?@@LetsPlayThru
I was at Austad’s golf today and they were selling last years D9 irons for $499.00. 4-PW I believe.
Sure they are probably right up there , have you tried Titliest T400 ?
What’s the difference between these clubs and the D9’s?
Hey Gabe, do you use Shot Tracer for your videos or Adobe after effects/ something similar? Love your videos!
