Just started to watch your “channel “ and I find it refreshing. It gets old watching pros that couldn’t make a tour trying to show us regular guys how to play and what clubs would be good. Thanks for the regular player reviews
At 63 years old, I am just playing for fun...no more tournaments, as I spent my 30's and 40's playing seriously in local and some regional Amateur events. I carried between a 3 & 4 most of the time. Now, after having my 9th knee operation and 2 heart attacks from blood clots, tournaments are not something that I am interested in anymore. I have a set of Nike Slingshot irons that I hit quiet well and older Cobra 3, 5, & 7 woods that I just love! My first set of nice irons were Wilson Staff Fluid Feel irons ( circa 1965 ) that I purchased second hand...and I still have them!
@@LetsPlayThru I ordered some custom towels for my company from towel tag off your review. Can't wait to get them in the mail. Keep doing you, because it is very entertaining content.

That's a course I think I might be able to possibly shoot even on with my 1976-77 Wilson Staff irons and 1964 Wilson Staff 4350 'strata-bloc' driver and 5 wood. My buddy got the irons from Salvation Army for $10.00 3-PW and great shape. But this is your review about the D9'S and I am salivating over these distance irons. Besides the performance, I really love the looks of them. These clubs brand new are priced low compared to many of their big name competitors so they are way more affordable for golfers that are "finacially challenged" ,, two weeks ago, I saw a used set at my local golf shop; they were $399 and I took all my will power not to buy them. Why? well first of all, I own 2019 (year) Callaway Apex forged cavity back irons (with some high end graphite shafts and they are "pured"), along with an 11 year old Cobra driver that works well for me (don't hit many drivers), aling with a Callaway Epic 3 wood. Another problem is I got 2018 (number) of sets of "vintage clubs😂 just kidding!!! But suffice to say I still got 35 sets of vintage clubs even after giving 5 or 6 sets to a club collector weeks ago. And I am simultaneously going through chemotherapy for a nice little case of stage 4 lymphoma 😂 , so maybe not the best time to be buying any more clubs🤷. Great playing review!! You got a nice game, great commentary (feels genuine) and I like that course. Thanks.
I just got these as replacements for a very old set of Taylor Mades. I really liked their feel in the store and love them on the course. I'm a high handicapper and agree with you on their intended player.
I have a set and have changed from Taylor Made, they really have given me more confidence. I tested all makes at American golf , and it showed I hit these and had better flight. This has been proven over the last year, good video .
@@LetsPlayThru You've convinced me that the D9 would be a better club for me than for you Gabe. I'm seriously considering them for my next set of irons. Nice!
A couple of weeks ago I ordered 5-GW directly from Wilson’s website and they shipped fast. These things are absolute rocket ships. I normally shoot around 85-90 and have an average swing speed. I used to hit my Mizuno 7 iron 160 max. Now I’m pushing 180 carry. My 6 iron goes 190 - 200 carry. I have trouble hitting the 5 iron much further than the 6 but it’s coming. I did regrip to Tour Wrap white midsize and I’m thinking about getting the lies adjusted even though they fly pretty straight. They are definitely way bigger than my Mizunos and they sure don’t sound like them. But when you flush one it does sound different than off center. I’m used to it now after a round and 400 range balls.
Wilson clubs are super durable. I'm still using my 2006 Fat Shaft irons which were an upgrade from my 1988 Wilson Power Sole set. These D9s look a real contender to improve my 18 handicap.
Love your videos! I am a senior player who needs help with distance and increased height with my irons. Ordered a custom set of these irons 4 weeks ago and the heads still haven't come into the factory yet. They must be selling like hotcakes! Trying to wait patiently so I can try them out! Anyway, it's nice to see how a "mere mortal" plays the game! Thanks, again!
Congrats on the new set, Greg. Yes, I think with the boom in golf since Covid, all the manufacturers are having trouble keeping up. Hope they come in soon for you!
Well done Sir. The D9 helped to reduce my HC from 22 to 14,9 within 5 month. Distance + 15 -20 meters and more consistant. Love those clubs from the first time I touched them!
Played a number of Wilson/Staff irons, including the D200 and D300 lines. Excellent performance & value all around. My son still has my D200s in his bag.
As a high handicaper and slow swing speed player I love these irons. As you say the ball is easy to get in the air. Also when not hitting on the sweet spot it still goes towards where you are aiming. With my handicap I never thing about working the ball, just try and get it near the green. They are as good as many forgiving new irons only much cheaper. I started with iron set and bought every months a new one ... 3wood, hybride and just last week the driver. I love them and still don't get why so many don't even think about Wilson. Thx for.the play
Nice work Gabe! I'm playing these also, with the stock stiff shaft, for now at least. I basically traded my other irons that I wasn't getting along with (too much spin) for these. They do spin less, and are surprisingly good, even though the shafts are too soft and light for me. I could honestly reshaft them with something like an S300, and be just fine, but I kind of balk at putting more money into them because of the low resale value. And, who else would be looking for D9 irons with an S300 shaft? Funnily enough, the lofts are almost exactly the same in the 5-G d9s as they are in an old set of 3-P 710 CBs I have, and they go the same distance.
That's amazing isn't it, how lofts have changed over the years? Yes a slightly stiffer shaft woudve been ideal for me too, but I think your assessment is spot on
I have the D7’s, love them. Wilson is making some amazing irons right now. I started playing again last year and needed forgiving clubs. PW is 120, 9 is 150, and 7 is 170 for me. I don’t use the 6 or 8 much, I’m sure I will as I get better. They sound great to me too.
Love the video. The only problem I had with these is the lack of places to try them out. My local Roger Dunn has the usual TM, Cobra, Calloway, Ping etc., and being a lefty made these pretty much impossible to find and demo. Ended up with T-300's which I am happy with, but I am disappointed I never got to swing these.
Just bought the garmin s62 under your recommendation don’t show me any more products I’ll buy it lol 😂 great vid keep up the good work loving the Chanel.

@@LetsPlayThru Thank you will try the sims as suggested just tried Titleist T400 sensational hit the 7 iron 152 yards very solid beautiful club no gimmicks. I have no problem launching the ball so hybrid irons not for me or weak lofted irons as I add loft on my stats but getting good swing and ball speeds and a smash factor of 1.133. Once again thanks for the lovely reviews.
I just got off the course and struggled the whole day. Certainly wasn’t the d9s fault. Definitely more of my inexperiences fault. Only have been playing for about a year. These clubs are very nice for sure though.
Ah, sorry to hear about the tough day out there. I've had my share too! Great thing about golf though, there's always next round or one good shot to remember to keep you coming back!
Total side note, but just wanted to point out that on the first hole you had a reasonable birdie putt, using new sticks, with no more than a 5i. If that doesn't illustrate how much time/emery we all waste on drivers and 'bombing' I don't know what does.
That’s a really great question. I only have them very slightly forward from normal. Like maybe an inch. So I definitely think it’s more of the club rather than the swing

@@Jrock420blam The D9s are slightly stronger lofted than the D7s....I believe that is the biggest change between the two. Not worth the upgrade IMO, however the D7 forged or Staff CB could be something to consider.
Man, haven't seen dark clouds like that in quite a while here in West Orlando. Also, I think Costco is now out of stock again on those Calloway Edge Sets.
Thank you for another great video. Peaks my interest as I am a higher handicapper. Now I am curious based on your Costco club video and this one as which would fit me better? I hate to purchase new clubs without trying them out first. Have you announced the winner of the set from Costco yet? Thanks again.
Hi Steve, we did pull a name, and he has finally now come forward to claim the prize. We are running a big contest over on the FAther's Day video though, there will be multiple winners selected for that one.
I looked at the D9 and undecided compare to T400 Titleist. THey have a demo for sale at my club (T400 that is) . I could get the T400 at the price just a tad higher than the D9. Mind you, I found that the D9 sounded a little harch when you hit the 5 iron, but to be frank I prefer the graphite shaft (they were steel). What do you think ?
I have only heard good things from those clubs!! I think Wilson as a set which is more suited for your game as well the Staff models? I got to play some golf in that area back in the early 90's!!! They do look really fat at the bottom!! Nice review!!
Yes, the blades I really like, and the cavity backed players irons are probably the best for me personally. Great lineup from top to bottom for all categories.
Hey buddy , what's your record round there with your clubs , my course is a 9 hole built around our local river so every hole has water on one side some both . Si
Oh yes! I definitely have had my fair share of days where nothing went right. I’ve also had those days where everything was going right and I couldn’t get it to go left, Ha ha ha
I’m a beginner, and I play with blades from the early 90s, absolutely no forgiveness. Easy to say my time has been tough. I’ve been eying these, I’m usually the person who likes to go for the top brands (TaylorMade, Callaway). I am thinking about getting these instead.
That's definitely a tough way to start out! But maybe it will improve your ball striking over time. These are a great choice for forgiveness as well as value no doubt.
@@LetsPlayThru the irons are on callaway pre owned right now for a decent price (have a good driver and 5H already). I found a used D7 set on eBay for similar price but Wilson has the 3 wedges as opposed to 2 for the Edge is what has me indecisive!
It was so dry you didn’t have an issue, but in mud those Power Holes look like they would be a never ending pain to keep cleaned out. What do you think?
Why can I shoot an 81 yesterday and today I cant even seem to make a fuking par. I have 1 birdie today and literally all bogeys besides maybe 2 pars. Golf is beyond frustrating man
it's such a mental game, stay strong and try not to get too frustrated. when i'm having a bad round I try to enjoy the stillness, the sounds of nature, etc. it's meant to be fun, so hope next round goes better for you

Gabe, you should have put these D 9 up against the Wilson Staff D 9 forged irons to really see the f-difference...Maybe next video....Thanks...
That’s a good idea, thanks
Thank you for another great video. Peaks my interest as I am a higher handicapper. Now I am curious based on your Costco club video and this one as which would fit me better? I hate to purchase new clubs without trying them out first. Have you announced the winner of the set from Costco yet? Thanks again.
Hi Steve, we did pull a name, and he has finally now come forward to claim the prize. We are running a big contest over on the FAther's Day video though, there will be multiple winners selected for that one.
Just shot a 38 with my D7s, nevermind the 49 on the front though!
What golf course is this?
I looked at the D9 and undecided compare to T400 Titleist. THey have a demo for sale at my club (T400 that is) . I could get the T400 at the price just a tad higher than the D9. Mind you, I found that the D9 sounded a little harch when you hit the 5 iron, but to be frank I prefer the graphite shaft (they were steel). What do you think ?
Does hitting 5 iron off the tee really give a fair test to the irons on approach to the green?
I have some D350s and you can have them if you want. I couldn't get them out of the bag fast enough.
Ha, I'm good, but maybe some here could use them :)
Great lineup from top to bottom for all categories.
those things hit themselves
Shame they don't make the forged version, I got c300 forged and coming from forged mizuno they feel light with good feel..
Agree, that would be sweet
Love this video
Thanks Jay!
Who won the Callaway Edges?
For high handicap beginners, do you recommend these or the Tommy Armour 845 max?
Pretty close, prob Wilson D9 for me, but worth trying both.
Will the Garmin G-80 work as a launch monitor?
Yes it has basic launch monitor functionality. Nothing fancy but provides a few key data points
Great upload Gabe, very entertaining and enjoyable, good value irons.
Thanks so much!
do the d9s make cause shortness of breath
disregard the make
Hey buddy , what's your record round there with your clubs , my course is a 9 hole built around our local river so every hole has water on one side some both . Si
Hmm in this particular 9 I think it’s even par. Here’s the round: th-cam.com/video/Q1sRoOFVdFI/w-d-xo.html
Forgot to say in my comment above, I subbed.
Another fun day. Do you ever hit it crooked!
Oh yes! I definitely have had my fair share of days where nothing went right. I’ve also had those days where everything was going right and I couldn’t get it to go left, Ha ha ha
@@LetsPlayThru my battle is the left side, but I’m working hard to improve that. Your shot tracer doesn’t lie, and you are spot on my friend.
Wish u would have used a shaft that suited ur game in this video. Clubs didn’t get a fair review in this video because of it.
You know what I always say: WILSON 🐊🏌️♂️🚩🇺🇸🦅👌
I cannot decide between the Callaway Edge or Wilson D7’s now 😂
Well the Callaway edge set is tough to find. The Wilson’s can be had fairly easily.
@@LetsPlayThru the irons are on callaway pre owned right now for a decent price (have a good driver and 5H already). I found a used D7 set on eBay for similar price but Wilson has the 3 wedges as opposed to 2 for the Edge is what has me indecisive!
must be your swing dude, the 5 irons in this set are are good for 200 yards all day on an easy swing
It was so dry you didn’t have an issue, but in mud those Power Holes look like they would be a never ending pain to keep cleaned out. What do you think?
Hmmm, Good point. I think that’s definitely possible
You still have these irons?
Want to sell them?
I live in FL.. bout 2 hours away..
