I joined some RP groups back in my days on DeviantArt. And I think what Jay did was called "Godmodding". This is when you have control not only on your character, but also with the other character who roleplays with you. For example, when Jay threw her to the rock and proceeded to do dirty things to her before she responded if she's willing / consenting to be thrown to the rock and other things. This is a Big No NO, and is a red flag and is prohibited in most RP group because it caused discomfort and you supposed to control your character only, not others. So when you RP with other people, remember this and if they godmodded on you, you can explain about this godmodding thing and try to go on RP better next time, or you better run the other way. Just sharing what I know so if someone else is new to RP and have this going on with them they know that their character is being manipulated and it won't be fun for them if it continues.

I got two thoughts: Erp always will lead to real life.. and ffxiv needs a better block feature. You can't block people without interacting with them is ridiculous

It's really dumb how If you delete someone on your friends list as long as the other person still has you added on theirs they can see if you are online or not.
Its baffling how SE hasn’t fixed this yet. I haven't played long enough to have any bad experiences but its stuff like this that puts me off even bothering to socialize, just in case they send that dreaded “friend request” and potentially hound you forever if you accept.

It's not the rp. It's the feeling of power that gets this guy off. Not all rpers are like this but I have met my fair share of rpers who forget what real life is really like and indulge too much into their rp fantasies. It's cringey af and kinda sad tbh.
I'm not even halfway through, and I don't mean to shame those who enjoy RP. You like what you like and that's cool. But just knowing the possible type of drama that is going to come from this before it even finishes has given me so much secondhand embarrassment already. Holy hell.
i agree and also because of how weird these rp stories get i feel the op's in these stories don't tell the whole story, not in a cherry picking way but in a way that makes them look good and innocent. there's some weird people out there for sure but you don't attract people in ff who make these moves towards you for absolutely zero reason
@@ochicore As I found out I was at least person three he has pulled this on of at least five, he seems to go after isolated individuals and doesn't take a NO for an answer. Classic Narcissist. There is a part two from spouse four up (Jay's Harem Heresy) and at least one more story in the works that has been submitted to Pathra. This and some things that happened IRL around the same time (late January 2022-Mid May 2022) is how I grew a spine and set hard boundaries with a few people. I was the type of person who tried to be nice to others and not make waves even if it meant I got the short end of the stick, after this I am pushing back.

As an author, tabletop roleplayer and roleplayer in general it is really funny to me how people all over the game try to live out their power fantasies and sell it as RP. Despite it fitting the definition of RP, which is obviously playing a fictive role, this RP is far from what it was when it was still a niche hobby and the whole world thought we are just some crazy satanist cult that sits around a table summoning demons with dices.
Most of these power roleplayers (players who create marry sue characters) don't care about character development, lore or logic in general. I can tell the OP of this story had no clue what a whitemage, lorewise, actually is. And why becoming a whitemage after "two months of hard training" is...well...it's like saying you became the world champion of XYZ after two months of training irl. But people will always reach for the top when they make their RP backstory and don't realise that they hurt only themselves in the long run cause it leaves no room for personal development and character growth.
And while i would say that everyone should do what they have fun with i really hate the fact that people slowly see this crap at what RP actually is, it creates a stigma and stereotype that couldn't be farther from the true origin. And i fear with the clubbing scene now getting more attention this won't change in the future.
I so agree with you! And idk, but from what I gather from this story people like this seem to tend to godmod on their rp too, making their rp partner has no control whatsoever on their character and has no choice but to go their way -_-

at the time I knew little of the white mage lore as I was passive on reading the information while leveling a white mage with my friend. Since them I have done some digging in the lore when I can find the information, others I pull from my time as a Pathfinder/D&D player. I played her and continue to play her as a priestess and medic who still has her love of reading and cooks for a small army. She also loves making sure her friends are taking care of themselves

yeah I made it on there because who I was playing with at the time was on there then as I had IRL responsibilities I got left in the dust. The character in this story along with my two other characters are now happily on Mateus.

The title made me think of someone I was seeing sometime in 2019. I once was talking to this girl on my server, we'd hang out a lot in game for a few weeks before we started hanging out in voice in discord. And I swear to God, On the fourth gathering in voice chat, what was flirting turned into her "working on herself". Let's just say she has a sensitive mic and it captured a lot of audio. Her and what sounded like an assault on a opened and full mayonnaise jar.

I used to love RP, but this sort of drama is very common. All I wanted to do was play my character like she was real; the relationships were just too much. Maybe I’ll send you a write-up of the stuff that’s happened to me recently. I really do wish there were no relationship RP groups.
*Edit: I just heard the rest of the story (posted halfway through) and I really, really feel for the girl in this story. She lost control pretty early on and was manipulated - something that happens to people irl all the time, so it happens in games too.
When you get a stalker who really knows how to use the Lodestone, like yours, deleting is truly the only way to get away from them. If you move them to another server and then move them back, they’ll pop up on the friends list again.

Thats a shame. I show comments like these a lot to the RP community and forums and it only feeds into the judgement. It's just like PVP, cases like these - and yes they DO need better mechanisms in place to block people - are far in the minority, and lots of the community feel quite judged for getting a bad rap wholesale for the actions of a tiny, tiny fraction.

For RP,you just need to have ppl who are competent and know how to set barriers. Unfortunately, ppl new to it or not fully understanding themselves can easily get caught up in different emotions. Set boundaries and if you actually start maybe gaining feelings for an actual person,stop the rp and have a mature convo. Figure out if its too much and will interfere with the rp and what you're really doing there.
So, as the irl husband here who did not leave her as stated. this was a wild ride to listen to. I'm only 12 minutes in and knew a few of these things (as of yesterday) so ....*munches popcorn* continue...

Just so you guys know you can block people without interacting with them you just need to be able to target their character. I believe the command is /blist add . You can also blacklist from contacts if youve partied with them recently
I just want to decorate my house and play my black mage with my husband so NOT even interested in that type of weirdness and neither is my (real life) husband that plays. It helps to weed out potential problematic people because the MANY thirsty guys I come across that send me a random /tell don't want to even be friends with someone they can't have, let alone continue a conversation. It's like they play FFXIV to try and find a relationship and crush on people well out of their league.

Well, the first step is to play yourself and then add in things that you wouldn't normally do and make a character out of it. I know what you mean though.

It is literally impossible to not leak drama into rp, it is freaking ridiculous nowadays cuz no one can differentiate their characters from real life. I almost lost my rp venue + discord because someone who grew a -little- too attached to me blew a fuse over a commission I got with my friend of our characters who are IC married. This wouldn't of mattered if the person was the venue co-owner, so he used his trust in the community to make people turn on me and my friends, or try to, even went as far as trying to organize a raid to get the server taken down when he was banned that ultimately failed. We already get enough nonsense since our venue is Lalafell staff and a shortstack-themed, please keep the drama out of my RP job so it doesn't feel as draining as a real life job tyvm. (and if there is drama keep it IC only).

Jay's Harem Heresy is spouse number 4's story and there is at least one other one incoming from someone he tried to offer 50 buck IRL to make a female Raen. The babies are part of her story as she found a nice Sky Pirate and eternally bonded. I am trying to encourage another former spouse who was in there and left before me to write up her story, but as she has stated before she just wants that part of her past to burn.

I do RP just hadn't done in MMOs before, sadly most of the my D&D or Pathfinder groups I was in were more combat oriented to the point of almost being a Munchkin game. In WoW I was more of a raider and my best friend who I was playing with in the beginning of the story and still do is more into the raid scene. He and I just bounce off D&D ideas for his campaigns. Hope that helps

Yeah man. I stopped ERping tbh and have been lucky enough as of recently to find a group to write with in game - they got a big no sexual content thing going on. Which I’m not used to but it’s refreshing. But yeah - I stopped cause it almost always gets fucking weird. You know what - it only gets weird on 14.
People have a tendency to try to live out some aspect that they are missing out on in reality - in the game. And those who do that roleplay wise - are usually the ones whom are causing all of this brain melting bullshit you see mostly.
I think that is what Jay's issue is. I didn't go much into his life (Spouse 4 does in his story) but Jay is using FF14 to deal with his own insecurity.
