I thought it was obvious that he was turned into a puppet as a form of justice. I gave the potion to Gideon and found Seluvis like that. Thought it was common sense.
Selivus dies by simply advancing Ranni's questline when you give her the fingerslayer blade or when you try to turn Ranni into a puppet. Because of this I tend to think Selivus is actually an agent of the Fingers who has infiltrated and is actually trying to thwart her plan. He directs you to Sellen, who leads you to fight Radahn which is a seeming impossible task to overcome and in theory would leave you and Blaidd taken care of. He sends Finger Maiden Therolina in puppet form to assist in the fight who is "ill suited for battle" and uses golden order incantations and holy water pots which might be a clue. Maybe she was meant to help Radahn, or to suppress you and Blaidd once you had been beaten, or maybe to simply to just get in the way. It does seem like Selivus is tied somehow to Pidia's puppetry but he is certainly not being controlled by Pidia - but it also seems like the other puppets Pidia is looking over are under his control by illusion only. In fact he says that he is only "maintaining" them for the Carian royal family. This hints at either the dolls are actually controlled by Ranni or perhaps more interestingly by Rennala whom is enchanted by Radagons amber egg. In short, it could be that Selivus is controlled by proxy via Rennala who is being controlled by Radagon and who is being controlled by the fingers and the greater will (or maybe something or someone else?) all the while his vitality is being "maintained" by Pidia.
It doesn't help that all Ranni does is order you around and push you away from her. But yeah, Ranni's lads are all interesting characters and I can't remember the last time we had that many interesting characters in a single alliance
Great video. What's your opinion on why Ranni had a relationship with Seluvis? She's too smart to be duped and appears to be ready for his betrayal. Was she using S as a test for the tarnished before trusting them with the quest and ultimate marriage? The other "trusted" cohorts of Ranni are pretty clearly a different relationship.
My first thought is information, specifically information on the Eternal Cities. He's an expert on puppetry which appears to be magic originating in the Eternal Cities. So, he may have just been considered an expert on them in general. This is backed up by Blaidd immediately pointing to him when he hits a dead end on reaching Nokron. He's also a preceptor. Besides having a crap ton of magical knowledge in general, they were present when Radahn and Rennala were married and held some big secrets based on the Mask of Confidence. Also, there's nothing I've found to confirm it, but given his expertise, he may have also played a hand in figuring out the whole Ranni soul in a doll body part of the plan as well. Finally, I think he was supposed to use puppets to bolster the defenses of Carian Manor. Ranni's gang's numbers were probably purposely low (less chances for leaks) and their main muscle, Blaidd, was needed to go out on important missions. So, they needed the extra man power to keep them protected and hidden in 3 Sisters. I think Seluvis delegated this job (like he does with all his jobs) to Pidia. Interestingly enough, he gets iced as soon as we turn in the fingerslayer blade. This is when Ranni leaves 3 Sisters and she seems to be completely sure of the way forward with her plan from here. If we think it was Ranni or someone working for her, it could have been he outlived his usefulness at that point. (Plus, I think his working with Sellen may have fully come out by this point which would have been a no-no) I don't think Ranni ever trusted Seluvis even a little bit and I actually do think she let his little puppet scheme go as far as it did as a test but I don't think that was his only reason for being there. I think she had a desperate need for some help in areas Seluvis could provide. Even though she knew he was a scummy and untrustworthy dude, at the very least, she could trust he wouldn't tell Gideon.
Ah, yes, I momentarily forgot about the whole "soul in doll body" thing. That all makes sense (especially since everything in ER is complex and convoluted - no "easy" answers for anything). Thanks for the insights... I would be very interested in exploring this further in-game if FromSoft sees fit to expand on some of these stories in the DLC, but they might have not fleshed it out any further than you just did :-).@@rickytebbe
But since Pidia is an Albinuric it kinda makes sense as to why selivus wants to exact revenge on Gideon for his slaughter of an Albinuric village if he is Pidias Puppet.
I Pidia fool that doesn't subscribe for more content like this...sorry. Thanks for watching!
yea, with such unique lore subjects and thought process you deserve more subbers

Ironically i liked every single one of rannis servants more than ranni herself lol
Same lol
