    Wtf is going with the comments here. As a Cambodian, I am proud of my country and would like not to cause any problems with other countries. That is how you make peace. At least having some remaining land for a nation is better than losing all of them like the Chams. Cambodia may lose a lot of land and some culture, but at least having some land for the people and culture. Just stop countries war commenting here, because this is the era of peace.

      As a Thai yes, I herd a lot of arguments between 3 sides Thai,Laos and Cambodia. I really respect you for peace. But to be honest Cambodia might not be that rich, but when I went there thrust me Pnom Penh looks luxury.

      I visited Bangkok last year, Thai is truly in developing the right way. We hope to move forward in present, not those Cambodian Nazi who easily get tricked by hatred in the past. They fall right in the trap of territory dispute and national hummiliation by the like of Hitler in 1930s'.

    Even though our Khmer Empire has now crumbled, we Khmer remains honest and honorable people. We do not steal land from our neighbors, we do not kill our neighbors for their land and we do not create genocide or massacre from our neighbors. Our Khmer king taught us that we " Khmer always forgive but never forget."

    Myanmar Empire were one of the largest and the most powerful empire in Southeast Asia back then. We ruled Thailand,Khmer, Southern China, Laos, Northeast India, and some part of Vietnam. Proud to be Myanmar. Proud to be ancestor of Tibetan Burman descent

      @KhmerKandal 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok linlin I'm happy that you love your history. However, you are too prideful and just a little out of your mind as Chinese Burmese. The truth is still the truth. Even if you tried your best to persuade people to go along with your opinios, you only gets pitiful for being ignorant. Don't be mad ok because you can't lied to people. Anyway nice try.

    • @kingmang12
      @kingmang12 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't you agree that Myanmar Empire was one of the most powerful empire in Southeast Asia? I'm just telling the facts okay. Do you know anything about Myanmar history?The facts is that we ruled almost all of Mainland Southeast Asia,and some part of southern China such as Yunnan state. Also, there are many khmer people live in Myanmar to, they are called "mom" khmer people. Actually, Southern Burma indigenous people were mon-khmer and pyu people. However, when Burmans immigrated to Myanmar from the Tibetan region, they destroyed mon-khmer empire and established their own empire. I bet you dont know anything about southeast asia history.

    • @KhmerKandal
      @KhmerKandal 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahahe, you plain silly n funny. Prior to Burma coming down south, there four powerful kingdoms: Khmer, Mon, Cham, and Java. Only two kingdoms survived today, Khmer n Java. Champa was taken by Viet n Mon was taken by Burma. Khmer Mon are over mainland Southeast Asia. You can many ruins and related objects that were there today in many of the current countries from Burma to Vietnam. Yes, people still preserve their tradition and languages etc. Three heads elephant artifact was belong to Khmer king, but was stolen by Thai and later was found in Burma. You don't know all facts linlin. Burma was a beautiful country, but it was under a military leader until these several years that it begin to enjoy some freedom. Khmer in Burma is called Mon n not Mom as in Mama ok. Go to sleep or do research instead of based things on your opinions ok bubu.

    It's really interesting to see the flames that this video has created. Personally, i think we have more issues to deal with nowadays than to worry about what happened in the past. PLUS, no one here now was around when it happened, so we can never be fully sure of how the relationships were between the different kingdoms. Yes,they may have fought, but do you realize that at one point or another they also became allies? People change, Empires and Kingdoms change. It's time to move and start new:)

    Khmer people do know, if anything its Thailand trying to rewrite history and new information, everything in thai culture is based on Khmer culture, Thailand trying to wipe Cambodia off the map. when the Khmer rouge took over Cambodia, Thailand took advantage of Khmer culture, just like "thai kickboxing" and made it popular while the Khmer people were recovering from war. you know Khmer long existed before Thailand.

    In Thailand and Laos the Mon-Khmer substrate has been marginalized to isolated residual groups. The Thai abandoned Chinese influenced Mahayana Buddhism for the Indian influenced Theravada Buddhism of the conquered populace. Despite the notional ethnic chasm between the Thai and the Khmer of Cambodia, the broad cultural similarities due to the common roots in the society of the Khmer Empire is clear.

    Thai and Siam are different entity. Thai came from Yunnan in southern china, Siam are native of the Indochina together with the Mon and Pyu peoples. The Siam are Isthmian Malay. In 1483 the Annam ( Dai-Viet ) emperor, Le Tanh Tong send 90000 armies to invade and conquer land from Lancang ( Lanxang ) till Burma. The Ayudhya ( Siam ) called for help from Malacca ( Malay ). The Malacca ruler send 30000 men to assist Ayudhya and Lancang to repel Annam invasion. Alliance of Ayudhya - Lancang - Malacca delivered heavy blow to Annam by destroying two third of 90000 strong armies with 4000 military officer of Annam killed. This event wrote by Chinese chronicler in Ming Shi Lu.

      Don't confuse Siam with Ayutthaya.

    When I visited to Cambodia, in Phnom Penh National Museum, I had an impression with map of Khemar Empire posted on its museum wall. Actually it is about Khemar Empire and its neighboring countries in 1400 AD, and it mentions Arakan (currently Western Myanmar) as independent kingdom. As an Arakanese, I am very happy to see that map. I tried to take a photo or copy but it was not ok because things in museum is prohibited by photographic.

    Im still learning about the Siem, but I have been following their history. Is it possible that the Siem migrated during the 12th century from Southern China, later assimilated with the Mon, later up rised against the Khmer rulers, inheriting both the Khmer culture and the Mon culture, later calling themselves the land of the free. Eshan (Ishan) means higher mountain or mountain people referring to ethnic Loas.
    where do these Siems gets the idea that they build Angkor Wat or Preah Vihear.

    Yes, I agree. War is ugly. Our Khmer King always protected our kingdoms from invading countries. I was talking to one of my Indian friends and asking him about how much he knows about the Khmer Empire. He reckons that at one point our Empire was so huge that it extended to the India, and fight off the invading Persian/Egyptian army. We were called the Aryan Khmer.
    Back to the King Naresuan. Yes sounds about right. The kings back then were ruthless dictators or rulers.

    the khmer Empire was Southeast Asia's largest empire during the 12th century and it remained very powerful. The empire declined yet remained powerful in the region until the 15th century.
    The empire's centre of power was Angkor, where a series of capitals was constructed during the empire's zenith. In 2007 an international team of researchers using satellite photographs and other modern techniques concluded that Angkor had been the largest pre-industrial city in the world with an urban sprawl of 1,150 square miles.
    The city could have supported a population of up to one million people and Angkor Wat, the most famous and best-preserved religionals temple at the site, are remainders of Cambodia's past as a major regional power.

    Also to note, Ang Eng was heavily influenced by the Siamese and the Idea of connecting Kambujadesa with his line could have come from here. Even though there was no international interest in Angkor. King Narai had written a letter to the portuguese and in it he claimed descent from the founders of Yasodharapura. Using the real name (the name Angkor coming much later in history)

    As for as Khmers,one best thing they had done was inscriptions.
    There are also other reliable sources both Thai and Chinese.
    Khmer kings very often wrote many rock inscriptions though we have not got fully but we have now got considerable portions of those inscriptions..
    There is nothing left for nationalism or otherwise.
    Khmers kept no room for that!

    Im khmer french, and i think we (SEA people) should build a brighter future, and not a clearless past. and work together! Swearing wont change anything and war wont bring the truth.
    We dont have to be hostile. Im proud to be khmer, but i know it won't help me have meat in my plate. So im just tired to read hostile comments, just because of national pride or what. It's just history, nobody here made it.
    SEA can be greater, one obstacle : hatred. if we helped each other, it can only grow better.

We both have held grudge toward one another for centuries and achieved nothing but acromony. Let bygone be bygone and we should look into the future and live in the harmoniuos and constructive way as neighbouring countries. Love never kill but hatred does.

    The Mons are related to the Khmays and were under Khmer empire influence at that time

    There were many ethnic tribes during the Khmer Empire. One of the ethic tribe were called the Ishan, they were known for jewel and expensive trades. The Ishan was said to located located in the upper region of the Khmer Empire, thus Ishan original meaning "Higher mountain," or mountain people.
    Also Loas, in Khmer is Liev, Lievs is luer, luer means Up, Loas means upper people. Unlike the Siem jungle tribes, the Khmer King has always had good relationship with the Ishan and the Loas people.

      Issan is something the Siem made up from the Sankrit word meaning northeast because they wanted the French to believe Issan is the northeastern part of Siem instead of LanXang. Lao was the people from South China before Han Chinese started to expand south. The Mongol Yuan dynasty was in 13th century and they called Lao as Liao and Liu by Mandarin.
      The word Tai is from Mongol and Lao word meaning "of". Since "lue" means north then Tai Lue means "of north" because Tai Dam means "of Black River"

    @EDEBOYZ: I don't understand why you're directing the hate on Vietnam when majority of the attacks against you are coming from the west. Due to that, Champa start attacking the people up north instead. The end result is Vietnam taking over majority of Champa (since it seems like Vietnam/China weren't targeted as much as Champa). Majority of the action is in the center, for the most part.

    Lao Theung (midland people)[edit]
    In the central and southern mountains, Mon-Khmer tribes, known as Lao Theung or mid-slope Laotians, predominate. Other terms are Khmu, Khamu (Kammu) or Kha as the Lao Loum refer to them as indicating their Austroasiatic origins. However the latter is considered pejorative, meaning 'slave'. They were the indigenous inhabitants of northern Laos.
