I'm not even Cambodian and feel extremely sad... it was very very beautiful, i hope Cambodia and Phnom Penh can overcome its current difficulties to become so beautiful again
Cambodia used to be such a beautiful place before. I never experience this before now. Phnom Penh really has changed. If only we can go back to 1965. Pol pot ruined this for the Cambodian people 🇰🇭
Your parents right. Cambodia was a nice, peacefully and free country. The people were very friendly and very secure all over the places. I left Cambodia 1968, back 70 to visit after the US invasion, Cambodia had changed, 72 a lot of crimes and US bombes all over, 74 just stick at home, not able to move around. Had chance 1967 to visit Angkor Wat firts time and before left my love Cambodia.
1965 😱 Wow so beautiful💜🇰🇭 If Cambodia Don't have war with polpot Cambodia Now 2019 is became a popular country and Beautiful Country😕🙂💜❤But now 2019 Cambodia is developed a lot🙂💜Who else Watch This video in 2019 ខ្ញុំស្រលាញ់ប្រទេសខ្ញុំ🙂💜❤
I would like to thanks the person who posted this video. I never realized how beautifull Cambodia was, It look more modern and peacfull than any other county today.
@MusicalKhmerCanadian i just got back today from a two week trip to cambodia, and phnom penh is just as your describe, people driving the wrong way and old cars. this video is astounding, phnom penh was so clean, developed, and a lot less people/traffic in this video. So sad what has happened, but I hope that Cambodia can reach the greatness in this video once again
thank you,I have visited mant times since 95 and it is unbelievable to see PP in 60's. I will be going bak some time to work as the people are the best in the world. Loved to see what we could rebuild if the present government was not so corrupt.
i visited cambodia few days ago for 5 days, and i was surprise how kind is the people there...real kind than i expected,,,i'll go to cambodia once again next time for sure.
This is video is truly shocking and amazing. I was in Cambodia last year and have been to most of those sites and I am completly shocked to see what has happened. To beleive the rest of the world just watched it happened. My heart is opened for the people of Cambodia.
Beautiful. Thanks so much for uploading this vid. I honestly have no memories of Cambodia at all. Hard to belief it was so beautiful once upon a time, since all I know is what the KR left behind. Wish I could see Cambodia as it was in the sixties. Wow, very impressive. Thanks so much again.
Thanks you for visiting my country. I will go to Thailand in March of 2008 to visit my brother that married Thai woman for about 3 days. And this is my second visit in Thailand, too. Than, I will go to Cambodian where I was born to become a monk for about a week for my mother and donate about $20,000 U.S dollar to my people. I visited Cambodian once before, for about three weeks. I went to the garbage dump outside of Phnom Penh. I saw to many people lived on the garbage dump.
Wow. Absolutely beautiful. Such a shame to see the difference between the Cambodia today and the Cambodia from our parents youth. Lets hope that one day we can rebuild ourselves to the empire we once were.
The world dont realize that it almost lost one of the world most beautifulest culture this world had created. The most creative asian race this world had, all destroyed by the ambitious vietnamese. the world might not know but we khmer know the hanoi was the pushing force of khmer rouge. RIP to all the artisan, dancer. builder, musican, crafter, and all of the middle class who perish under there greed.
thanks for sharing i love this video. do you know where i can possibly purchase the DVD??? i was born and raised in the US but has visited cambodia 3 times.. it's nothing like this video. kinda sad, war SUCKS!
I just spent a couple weeks in Cambodia and went through to vietnam yesturday. It is a very safe place to be, and easy to travel through. Although the country is badly littered and may look dodgy to you the people are very friendly and helpful. Most speak english and they mainly use the u.s dollar so getting about is easy. Common sense is advised when traveling the side streets at night...likewise for anywhere you go. Dont be scared to travel there, its not bad.
What a beautiful country it was back then. When I had humanity class, my teacher told me that some cambodian people were rich while other were poor but nobody has starved. It would be nice if people would stop bashing at us. We have suffered enough from the communism.
Cambodia was better under the monarchy than the current corrupted democratic regime in placed right now. Hun Sen's Vietnamese agenda will never bring Cambodia back to greatness like a true Khmer leader would.
This is amazing! The past is the past. Let us all focus on how we Cambodian people can help out mother land get back onto her feet. Stop the hate comments on dark skin khmer and white skin khmer. End of the day, no one cares. What matter the most is, what are you going to do about your country?
So much turmoil going on in the world, it's hard to stay positive i love my home country, Take me back to the 1960's, Then everything was peaceful Our culture, our people, our will to continue on living.
our once beautiful country is getting more and more beautiful again, thanks to good leadership in our country, and the support of the US, Korea, France, and Japan. Please if you are Khmer visit our country and see the beauty that is flourishing right now. like I said before Cambodia will not only be the the pearl but the Diamond of SE Asia.
That is so true, Cambodia reach the point where it was so close to being what it should be 1960s, now with desease and poverty, it isn't anywhere near what real Cambodian are suppose to be. It's like Cambodia completely flipped.
Intersting... My wife and I have adopted 4 babies from Cambodia. You should see what the place looks like now. Average per capita annual income is $180 American per year. Very sad situation. Pol Pot killed off 15% of the population, mostly those who had an education.
Wow this makes me so sad. I've been to Cambodia a few times and though it's making slow progress, this video shows how much more developed the country would be now if the Khmer Rouge hadn't destroyed it. I feel the same sadness when I see old clips and photos of Kabul, Afghanistan in the 1960's and 1970's where the women were wearing mini skirts and attending university and such.
Angkor Wat is incredible place u never no, one of largest temple in the world, the most architectural building in Asia and the eight wonder of the world.
The government in cambodia, although a little corrupt have help its ppl in many ways recently. New roads, sewage systems, promotion of culture and heritage, woman rights, tourism has flourished in the last 5 years. Please visit cambodia again it will be the pearl of SE Asia again.
King Sihanouk did some good things..but because of his greed for power too much he didnt want Cambodia to be a democracy state ..that the reason why he allied with the Chinese govt to help communist vietnam. Which result American bomb Cambodia and Cambodia went into way of social unstability. and Khmer separated into different factions and lead the Cambodian into civil war and self destruction till everything back to Year Zero(POlPOt). This comment is true or not depends dividual opinion.
@db007us, Not all the places in Cambodia are dirty as you've described. There are a lot of beautiful places. Beatiful beaches, five stars resorts, and many other places. I've been living here for over 5 years and it's not like what you've described. Sure Cambodia is not like what it used to be, but it's not that bad.
I'm from china and plan to visit cambodia next month. i cant dream that cambodia used to be a such beautiful country. what chinese government did (support the communists and never appologize for it) made me very shameful. actually, due to the filtering of information, many young people in china dont even heard about it. I wish china can face up to that history and assist cambodian people one day.
I wish peace and prosperity to Cambodia and its people. The country had experienced so much destruction during the 3rd Indochina war, and also suffered a lot from the genocide committed by the Pol Pot's regime.
My mom always calls 1965 the golden age of Cambodia. It really saddens me to see this footage and compare it to what Cambodia has become today. Jrkepler is right, Cambodia will never recover. Corruption is too enrooted into the system that even if the current officials were ever to step down, there will always be an underdog waiting to take their place.
Many Americans (the majority of the public who weren't in the government) were largely unaware of the ongoings in cambodia at the time. You can't blame them for not interfering in something they were unaware of.
@MrJayChhun My sister and I are in the same position..If it weren't for the Khmer Rouge, Cambodia would be flourished with success and prosperity. So by stating that, I feel it in my heart and soul that God or faith did this for a reason so we could go back and help restore Cambodia back to where it was before and even greater.
it is true and just to add - i went to cambodia and its more of story than that. Sihanouk also well respected in china and korea. china call for all kings for all over the world - who ever can sit on the chair and survive will be crown in china. all had died trying except King Sihanouk. as i mention korea, korea is one of china cloest allies. date back centuries as they always been allies of bussiness and power and chinese king is korea king also. so thats why korea respect sihanouk.
very nostalgic. but you can't step into the same river twice. in the end all beauty, all splendor will decay into nothingness. this is how the world end, this is how the world end not with a bang but with a whimper.
Today, many vietnamese with the khmer name are all over in the governmental ministry.KHMER is facing to the deathly future. I am for the good of cambodia. I love khmer people. I don't want to say much, PLEASE WATCH THE IMPORTANT DOCUMENTARY INSTEAD, and search in youtube as: Cambodia - Sihanouk & Vietcong, ALL CAMBODIANS WILL UNDERSTAND OUR COUNTRY.
my great grandfather was the prime minister there....and my other granfathers were president(dont know what you call it there lol)and the gover too but i never been there before so this is what it looks like...and my great grandfather was heng cheng....:).....i wished i went there to see what it was like
Cambodia hav a lot of place 4 u 2 spend on and on....such as: Angkor(old cambodian capital from 8 century to 15 century) one of the largest city in the world during that time and the population over a millions ppl lived there. it hav more that 85 temples one of the best temple was Angkor wat.
People need to stop blaming every single nation that surrounds cambodia...what's really sad is that these racist grudges continue today! Where Vietnam, China, Laos, Thailand, etc, and all the rest of Asia has moved on, accepted their historical faults, cambodia still is stuck in the past grudges and refuses to move on.
Those khmer rouge really messed everything up; the effects are still so very present today. It seems that cambodia has just very barely begun to pick itself up...the long will be long before cambodia will be at the same level as the rest of the continent.
wow i did not know cambodia was so beautiful then..LOL looks better than 2007 itself.I don't even know that there are so many tall building then and the castle are all so brightly coloured...Now its just black patch!!Please we need better president and stuff.not corrupted ones like now.damn we look more advanced than japan 1965 seriously
yeah, whats making it even longer is the fact that prime minister have so much power right now. i wish he would just give up his control over Cambodia. btw, i heard something about Thai king got kick out of Thailand.
I'm not even Cambodian and feel extremely sad... it was very very beautiful, i hope Cambodia and Phnom Penh can overcome its current difficulties to become so beautiful again

Magnificent video!! Thank you so much.
What a nostalgie !
I always want to visit Cambodia, I'm from Thailand but never visit my neigbor, what a shame.

Take me back to the 1960's, Then everything was peaceful
Our culture, our people, our will to continue on living.
Very nice! Is there anyway we can show that on TVs in srok khmer now? Let Hun Sen see it too.

Cambodian was so beautiful before the war. I couldnt believe how clean and peaceful the country used to be before Paul Pot and American Bombin.

King Sihanouk did some good things..but because of his greed for power too much he didnt want Cambodia to be a democracy state ..that the reason why he allied with the Chinese govt to help communist vietnam. Now from watching this, you can see Cambodia haven't been moving forward. It has been nearly 50 years. And we stood still.
Many Americans (the majority of the public who weren't in the government) were largely unaware of the ongoings in cambodia at the time. You can't blame them for not interfering in something they were unaware of.

( no one else love khmer then khmer love khmer )
@LittleCreatureASEAN But some vietnamese where born in Cambodia?
Khmer in 1965 really the great Country in the world
Both sides need to let go of the age-old grudges and let the past be just that -- the past. Nothing positive will result from the hostility and anger.
Impressive and tragic, they really set you back.
I am proud to be Khmer
i'm american with a fascination about all things asia. how can we make cambodia like it used to be?
let me cry real quick..
