Cambodia used to be such a beautiful place before. I never experience this before now. Phnom Penh really has changed. If only we can go back to 1965. Pol pot ruined this for the Cambodian people 🇰🇭

Your parents right. Cambodia was a nice, peacefully and free country. The people were very friendly and very secure all over the places. I left Cambodia 1968, back 70 to visit after the US invasion, Cambodia had changed, 72 a lot of crimes and US bombes all over, 74 just stick at home, not able to move around. Had chance 1967 to visit Angkor Wat firts time and before left my love Cambodia.

i just got back today from a two week trip to cambodia, and phnom penh is just as your describe, people driving the wrong way and old cars. this video is astounding, phnom penh was so clean, developed, and a lot less people/traffic in this video. So sad what has happened, but I hope that Cambodia can reach the greatness in this video once again

Beautiful. Thanks so much for uploading this vid. I honestly have no memories of Cambodia at all. Hard to belief it was so beautiful once upon a time, since all I know is what the KR left behind. Wish I could see Cambodia as it was in the sixties. Wow, very impressive. Thanks so much again.

Thanks you for visiting my country. I will go to Thailand in March of 2008 to visit my brother that married Thai woman for about 3 days. And this is my second visit in Thailand, too. Than, I will go to Cambodian where I was born to become a monk for about a week for my mother and donate about $20,000 U.S dollar to my people. I visited Cambodian once before, for about three weeks. I went to the garbage dump outside of Phnom Penh. I saw to many people lived on the garbage dump.

The most creative asian race this world had, all destroyed by the ambitious vietnamese. the world might not know but we khmer know the hanoi was the pushing force of khmer rouge. RIP to all the artisan, dancer. builder, musican, crafter, and all of the middle class who perish under there greed.

I just spent a couple weeks in Cambodia and went through to vietnam yesturday. It is a very safe place to be, and easy to travel through. Although the country is badly littered and may look dodgy to you the people are very friendly and helpful. Most speak english and they mainly use the u.s dollar so getting about is easy. Common sense is advised when traveling the side streets at night...likewise for anywhere you go. Dont be scared to travel there, its not bad.

What a beautiful country it was back then. When I had humanity class, my teacher told me that some cambodian people were rich while other were poor but nobody has starved. It would be nice if people would stop bashing at us. We have suffered enough from the communism.

Cambodia was better under the monarchy than the current corrupted democratic regime in placed right now. Hun Sen's Vietnamese agenda will never bring Cambodia back to greatness like a true Khmer leader would.

End of the day, no one cares. What matter the most is, what are you going to do about your country?

    Intersting...
My wife and I have adopted 4 babies from Cambodia. You should see what the place looks like now. Average per capita annual income is $180 American per year. Very sad situation. Pol Pot killed off 15% of the population, mostly those who had an education.

Wow this makes me so sad. I've been to Cambodia a few times and though it's making slow progress, this video shows how much more developed the country would be now if the Khmer Rouge hadn't destroyed it. I feel the same sadness when I see old clips and photos of Kabul, Afghanistan in the 1960's and 1970's where the women were wearing mini skirts and attending university and such.

King Sihanouk did some good things..but because of his greed for power too much he didnt want Cambodia to be a democracy state ..that the reason why he allied with the Chinese govt to help communist vietnam. Which result American bomb Cambodia and Cambodia went into way of social unstability. and Khmer separated into different factions and lead the Cambodian into civil war and self destruction till everything back to Year Zero(POlPOt). This comment is true or not depends dividual opinion.

@db007us, Not all the places in Cambodia are dirty as you've described. There are a lot of beautiful places. Beatiful beaches, five stars resorts, and many other places. I've been living here for over 5 years and it's not like what you've described. Sure Cambodia is not like what it used to be, but it's not that bad.

I'm from china and plan to visit cambodia next month. i cant dream that cambodia used to be a such beautiful country. what chinese government did (support the communists and never appologize for it) made me very shameful. actually, due to the filtering of information, many young people in china dont even heard about it. I wish china can face up to that history and assist cambodian people one day.

My mom always calls 1965 the golden age of Cambodia. It really saddens me to see this footage and compare it to what Cambodia has become today. Jrkepler is right, Cambodia will never recover. Corruption is too enrooted into the system that even if the current officials were ever to step down, there will always be an underdog waiting to take their place.

@MrJayChhun My sister and I are in the same position..If it weren't for the Khmer Rouge, Cambodia would be flourished with success and prosperity. So by stating that, I feel it in my heart and soul that God or faith did this for a reason so we could go back and help restore Cambodia back to where it was before and even greater.

it is true and just to add - i went to cambodia and its more of story than that. Sihanouk also well respected in china and korea. china call for all kings for all over the world - who ever can sit on the chair and survive will be crown in china. all had died trying except King Sihanouk. as i mention korea, korea is one of china cloest allies. date back centuries as they always been allies of bussiness and power and chinese king is korea king also. so thats why korea respect sihanouk.

People need to stop blaming every single nation that surrounds cambodia...what's really sad is that these racist grudges continue today! Where Vietnam, China, Laos, Thailand, etc, and all the rest of Asia has moved on, accepted their historical faults, cambodia still is stuck in the past grudges and refuses to move on.
