- The Terraria Calamity mod adds a ton of unique bosses and fun content to the game, with all of the new content being added, such as new difficulties such as revengeance and death mode, along with everything else, it can be very easy to get overwhelmed. This Calamity mod guide is a SPOILER FREE guide that will give you a bit of insight and extra information on the mod without spoiling much of the fun of the amazing Calamity mod. One note about the rage bar, you can fill it by dealing true melee damage, but it does NOT have to be a true melee weapon, it just won't count if the projectile from the weapon hits, but using it as a sword for true melee will fill your rage bar.

@@princessazula7676 actually in the official lore it reveals it is Cthulhu, the Dryads hurt him very badly taking out his eye, brain, skeleton ect before the dryads getting almost extinced forcing him to fleeing to moon to heal becoming the Moon Lord, also tiny extra lore is that the mechanic was captured by the Lunatic Cultists and forced her to make the mechanical bosses to make Cthulhu extremely powerful and had made all of them except for the mechanical brain before we saved her

Completely agree with 10:02, took me and my friend 20 tries for the plague bringer but once we did it, it was such a feeling.
I already finished calamity with death mode, revengeance, and defiled, all active so I loaded thorium and basically I was like : Hmmm big bird go die with minigun ( Big Bird is grand thunderbird )
You can try adding shadows of abaddon once it comes out for 1.4, the art is really good and most of the bosses/gears are calamity level (probably won't even be a challenge for you but it might be fun) I don't know if the bosses will get harder with revengeance mode or death mode tough

So, as let's say calamity mod veteran (playing since late 2017-early 2018) this is honestly one of the best guides out there. Just a bit of advice for the newer players. The mode exceeds at high risk high reward playstyle so never stop until you win, and it will happen (might take months tho)

Out of curiosity, what do you remember from back when you first started? Was the game very WIP or was it like pretty similar to the mod we have today? I got into the mod roughly 6 months or so ago, so I am pretty fresh in the community.

Warning to those who are new to modding: DO NOT use Magic Storage if you plan to play through Calamity on a server. The mod have had issues with multiplayer for a very long time now, and if you use it online you run a high risk of your world getting corrupt at some point and your storage together with all the nearby terrain getting permanently deleted from your world. Regular backups can sorta get you around this problem, but only if you don't mind redoing a bunch of stuff again when the issue does occur.
second note: i've noticed this usually isn't an issue with your standard co-op self hosting. never had an issue with it when playing with only one or two people
Third note, playin with 3 to 4 people nothing seems wrong for 2 weeks.
As an alternative for Magic Storage I would recommend the mod "where's my items" instead, it works just like a search bar for nerby chests so you can just make an area dedicated to chests then craft stuff normally, and it won't corrupt your world

Just finished a melee class expert mode playthrough in 1.4 (mobile). Me will have fun with mod, I havent played it yet until now. I just bought terraria officially for the first time on steam and got access to tmodloader, so its my first time modding.
But I plan to go through mod in classic difficulty for the experience first.
This is an amazing guide, thank you! Would you say revengance mode is the best for someone who just started this mod? Would you recommend any other settings like defiled rune or Armageddon toggled on?
Revengeance in my opinion is a MUST if you want the full enjoyment of the mod, there is tons of features locked behind Revengeance and I don't feel like you really aren't playing Calamity without atleast that mode enabled + expert mode. Armageddon I don't recommend because you will likely naturally die a lot without it, and with it, you'll die MUCH MUCH more. Not being able to take any hits during boss fights means your positioning and knowledge of the boss has to be like top notch and even then you still might mess up something small like a hook or rod of discord and you'll die for it.
Defiled is actually one that is debatable though, I honestly don't think its that bad, but towards the later stages of the playthrough (probably around mech bosses) things do get difficult without wings. Not impossible, but definitely harder. The extra drop chance is really useful early game, and as you won't have wings till around hardmode, I dont see alot of harm in enabling it, atleast for pre-hardmode, you can get crit here and there, but it may help you get better gear a bit faster due to higher drop rates of rare items. I personally went in to Calamity with rev + defiled enabled and I felt like I didn't do too bad and I don't consider myself amazing at the game by any means. Got stuck a few times but with that playthrough and I stopped right before duke fishron as hes a tough one!
As far as the other settings: I wouldn't bother with anything else

im going to try this mod, currently i have beaten all terraria difficulties including the secret seed for the worthy, but excluding mediumcore or hardcore. And the only mod experience ive had was a bit with thorium with a friend, but thanks

I have a character about to finish classic mode rn, should i play through expert mode before getting this mod to be ready for it or does it really matter?
There is actually one more difficulty setting called the determination breaker, which removes immunity frames and makes lava instantly kill you.
With everything active you can do DADDI mode
The bad time.
DADDI mode will make you wanna call your daddy for him to come pick you up.
The determination breaker also makes skeletron shoot blue bones that don't damage you if you're still and to disable movement with your wings, therefore only allowing high jumps, this effect will make the player blue-ish, also, if you have a dog npc in town, he might come and occasionally steal bones from skeletron's attacks.
Skeleton prime has every change skeletron has except the dog doesn't help, the blue effect might also change the gravity's direction, the bone attacks will be much faster, the cannon will shoot laser beams and every attack will give you the "karmatic retribution" debuff that is like a poison that does 1 damage for every boss you've killed (this also applies modded bosses)
WARNING (this is not true but it would be cool if it was)
Oh damn, so it *starts* at Expert mode. That's way too hard for me lol, I can't even beat Skeletron on vanilla Expert. I'd just want to explore the new areas! Thanks for the rundown.

That really makes me want to play calamity but I'm waiting for tmodloader 1.4
im bad at the game and wanna play it on casual, is there another mod that lets me get revengeance mode stuff while still in casual?
I used to play calamity with shadows of abaddon and i had a lot of problems killing the bosses with calamity gear, (mostly because I'm not very good at fighting but lets ignore that) and some of the SoA gear was calamity-level if not even stronger sometimes.
So yeah, once it comes for 1.4 I'd recommend to play calamity+SoA
Hey so my friend and I both downloaded the calamity mod but every time we try to play with each other the game says lost connection. Does anyone know how to fix it?
note nr 1: iron heart does no longer cause perma-death on bosses,
note nr 2:iron heart disables usual methods of healing, but causes most bosses and damage in general to scale with your HP, meaning end-game bosses wont instantly take out 99% of your HP leaving you on Death's Doorstep,
note nr 3: A new difficulty changer was added: Determination Breaker , when this item is active , you have no immunity frames, aka a constant beam of damage will deal constant damage to your rather then short bursts of damage in a quick succession, and lava will instantly kill you upon touching it

Yo I have a question, when I tried to download the calamity mod that I see on the video, it doesn't show up, when I tried to download a mod called 'calamity mod' it didn't have those difficulty settings that you were talking about

Should i try my first playthrough on revengeance mode? I mean, i have a bit of experience in vanilla terraria, but i haven't done a full playthrough on it yet, so im thinking about playing modded
This is a bit of a hard one: If you don't mind getting killed a bit and possibly getting frustrated here and there you'll be fine. It isn't impossible but it will be more difficult than the vanilla game on expert. Long story short: If you are okay with getting stuck here and there, go for it, but if you are someone who isn't crazy about retrying bosses or get really frustrated, maybe beat vanilla on expert first then go from there so you can get better? Its definitely possible to beat rev mode with no experience etc though, just takes time
I would, i tried my first calamity pt on revengeance and it was super fun, it adds a lot more fun and powerful items and mechanics, and it is not that much harder than expert
I need some advice. I’ve beaten vanilla expert mode on Xbox but not pc. I just recently got the pc version of terraria specifically to play mods. Do you think revengeance mode will be too difficult? Keep in mind that I only have about an hour of play time on pc Terraria. Also is the magic storage mod glitched in single player too? I’ve seen some comments saying that it’s glitched in multiplayer and I want to use it only if there’s no risk.
i think single player no glitches occur with it. and maybe get used to the controls and feel then do expert rev mode calamity :)
I just beat calamity on Revengeance difficulty. Surprisingly the last 2 bosses where not actually that bad. It took me 2 tries for the exo mecs and about 5 for the last boss. Now to try it again but with a different class (I did mage)
I can't beat skeletron in my vanilla expert mode save, but i'm tempted haha.
The best item for wof are beenades and accessories from queen bee , you guys should get a obsidian shield too
Does the reduced minion damage Debuff extend to whips? I haven't been able to figure that out.
I haven't played in a long time but i am like 90% sure that whips do NOT get the debuff.
So is master mode revencgene or whatever good for a first run through then the next play through could be on death mode? I like hard bullet hell type games so yeah.

Is Revengeance harder than master mode in vanilla? I’ve beaten master twice (summoner and melee) and it wasn’t THAT hard so I’m wondering if it will be a good enough challenge just doing revengeance.

Not sure yet, the mod is currently on 1.3 terraria, I assume a whip wouldn't have a summoner penalty though
