Bought it yesterday and as a Puerto Rican I loved the details it has for our culture in the Caribbean. I know Yara is Cuba lol and they nailed it in terms of infrastructure, the style, the accent. So far I'm enoying the game. It feels like I'm playing a movie. I think it all depends in personal preference. I say give it a shot. Fry Cry 3 was very good as well. A bit pricey but overall I'm loving the game.
You mean fully developed. I still remember the shitshow of Far Cry 5's release. About only 5 variations of weapons, the game would usually get forever stuck in the night or daytime, etc
Yep, wait a year & get all the content for far less than buying it right away. Wait longer and get all the content on sale for like $20. (That's what I did for FC5, very glad I did wait because I would have been upset to pay full price for that polished turd.)
@@DraXaly both y’all are right. This is my favorite series and I preordered everything. Even I know it’s best for everyone to wait till Black Friday when it’s guaranteed 45-50 bucks on sale
Looks fun. I was expecting a more serious story based game though. But micro transactions in a game make me think of crappy convoluted mobile games. I'd want this at some point but I have stopped buying any games with micro transactions.
Well micro are mostly for visuals, you don't really get anything in terms of gameplay. I don't like micro honestly and I don't think they're useful, but the industry has made it a requirement for AAA games.
Excellent review as always. I managed to pre-order via an Amazon pricing mistake for 30 bucks two years ago. So I got "wait for a sale" on release day! lol
About what we expected. I'll enjoy playing, but like movies, I'd prefer less explosions and wackiness, and more interesting story. The jungle thing is overdone too. These huge open worlds, but not even one medium-sized city?
@@heymelon I get it, but we know they can up their game. Last of us, Red Dead, Uncharted, etc; it's possible to have a mass-appealing action-adventure game that does more than explosions and leveling up.
I expected a wait for a sale and I fully understand that score. I think Ubisoft are caught in a trap between "don't fix what ain't broken" and the desire to innovate, and it's a fine line they have to walk - every innovation to the table brings a risk to ruin the entire experience. The problem is that their formula is predictable, painfully so at times, but still works quite well in delivering fun and immersion. As for me I haven't been this excited for a game in a long time. There's something about the game loop in Far Cry games that's just so enticing to me, it's like both a sandbox and a story intetertwined. And with "random events" happening almost around every corner there's never a dull moment. Honestly can't wait to play!
I usually liken Ubisoft to Mcdonalds. They're product something that's isn't going to innovate and it's always very formulaic. You'll get something that will fill you up but you really notice the difference if you compare it to something that's been crafted with more care.
That's what I always say about Ubisoft game, especially because how often they release their games and you could basically see the formula in every single one of their games, no matter if it's Far Cry, AC or Watch_Dogs. Sometimes you can see they tried but didn't want to take that risk to ensure a safe sale. Are they terrible? No. But do they warrant a fully priced purchase? Also no (I used my points for that 20% discount). But at least they're fun which is fine for me as someone who just wants to wind down after a stressful day of work.
@@darthva31 Exactly, at the end of the day gaming is supposed to be fun and I feel that a lot of other developers are forgetting that. For example Rockstar games make some top notch games with amazing graphics. However I feel like they don't understand that people don't want to play missions where you fail the mission if you walk a few steps away from the mission area. Ubisoft games of late just need a bit more polish and they would be fantastic. More than that however, I'm happy that they still try to make games fun.
Bs. Ubisoft rarely makes a new interesting game. If you've played the previous far cry games you've played this. Boycott ubisoft games until they start making quality over quantity again
For the most part I enjoyed Far Cry 4 and 5 (didn't play Primal) and I had low expectations for this one but I've been pleasantly surprised. It's really been a joy to even just walk around and see the beautiful landscape. While this one is clearly down to typical Far Cry AI, I've also been laughing a lot at random guerilla camps suddenly being savaged by wild hogs, resulting in the guerillas throwing molotov cocktails at themselves and setting their whole camp on fire.
"I enjoyed Far Cry 4 and 5 (didn't play Primal)" I was pretty sceptical about Primal when it was announced, but honestly I had an absolute blast with it. Give it a shot.
Damn Karak, you always do an excellent job on these but this review was one of your better ones in recent memory. The last piece about choosing your hill to fight on, was fantastic. Well done.
I always find it suspect when embargo's lift the day before a game comes out. If you're confident in your game why make it so reviewers can't release their reviews until the day before release?
to do focused press coverage and increase the opportunity for it to be everywhere at once, rather than stretch it out and thinning the press coverage over time
What a coincidence! I was just playing Far Cry 5. Like this is the 2nd time I start the game. I remember buying it day 1 being so excited to dive into it. Somehow I played a bit and forgot about it. Now that is fully patched and functional it's a lot of fun to play. But damn, it feels like they released a lot of far cries in such a short time. Definitely not going to hurry buying the 6th one. When it comes to Ubisoft games, the general rule is: Leave them in the oven some more. Get them when they are fixed and cheap.
I just played a few hours of FC6 and I'd say it's surprisingly polished for an Ubisoft game. Biggest mess up so far was a voice line not triggering but the subtitles showed up on the bottom. Paying for a month of Ubisoft+ for $15 and getting the ultimate edition is the way to go imo.
If you count the numbered games, then it has been 3 and a half years since Far Cry 5. New Dawn was a spin off (a dumb one IMO) but it has still been 2 and a half years since it came out. That’s a reasonable amount of time for a sequel.
Its the best Far Cry has ever experienced. I am 8-9 hours in it and it has passed all my expectations. The Gunplay, the villain, the setting etc are so cool and satisfying. It is way better than new dawn and 5. In addition Giancarlo Esposito did a very good job playing Anton Castillo. Its my favorite Far Cry till now
After playing Call of Duty games for so long, even when reinforcements do get called in firefights, taking them out isn’t as difficult as I initially expected. It becomes a lot similar to the whole run and gun, fast paced small area action and I love it.
I've waiting to play this so badly, huge fan of Far Cry. Since I'm Dominican hear all those coños dropping in the dialog, plus the environment and the music, it's gonna feel like I'm playing in my own backyard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 definitely a buy for me.
Bro, you’re my favorite reviewer. The amount of time you dedicate to it and give it an honest review is much appreciated. Do you ever sleep though? Appreciate ya ACG
@@ACGreviews You're right, I'm filtering it through what I actually care about, and in far cry 5 the AI actually didn't bug me too much, which makes this a hard win for me. But as a reviewer you have to look at all that biz.
Picked it up on sale and finally decided to give it a try. The start felt very on rails compared to 5th one. AI seems kind of dumb but it's fun enough.
Switching ammo all the time has really put me off. Same issue mentioned by Skillup. That and the return of the irritating endless spawning enemies that bugged me in 5. Reall shame as I enjoy Far Cry. I don't get why developers add mechanics just for the sake of it. They surely realise that a lot of it is just annoying and detracts from the flow of the game.
@@loblawbomb1532 Exactly I was looking forward to some dumb fun, running about without the zillion collectables, endless crafting and game mechanics that seem crammed in every game. It makes them feel so laboured and annoying. I've been feeling burnt out by endless open world's filled with pointless busy work. End up playing Pac Man and having way more fun there than chasing a bloody fox in Ghosts... Which was a great game but I wish there were some more straightforward games with crafted levels and simple fun mechanics. I long for the return of Max Payne!

Thanks for the great review as always. I absolutely love the Far Cry series, rinse and repeat is no real bother to me as I do dig the formula. I am glad that the "leveled" enemies is nothing near as shitty as New Dawn was. This would've been a buy for me but since Ubisoft only sells games to my country in Euros, it's a nope. And since the Epic partnership there are no other retailers selling this for PC (legitimately) so will wait for a discount, however hard that may feel
This game definitely feels like a wait for a sale and patches. Thankfully they go on sale rather quickly and Ubisoft patches very often and quick as well, like once or twice a month at times.
Man, thank you for the way you make your content. I always trust your reviews and it's awesome to have a resource where I can get an entertaining and objective review before I buy something. I'm gonna get this game now (despite the suggestion to wait) and I know that sounds pretty contradicting based on what I just said, but you were thorough and objective enough that I was able to make an informed decision. @@robsmall6466 My guess is he didn't get a PS5 code, but to be honest what does it matter? It's gonna be the same pretty much as series X and if you want to know it properly a review isn't the place to be. Just wait for digital foundry to release their video.
My father died from Covid very recently and he left me his Senn HD800S. This will be the first game I play with them. Super excited to hear how spacial and immersive the sound is. Even sounds breathtaking after all of the compression! Thanks so much for the video! ❤
As a long time Far Cry fan, this was a must buy for me. I am loving the game so far but because of the music, Far Cry 5 made an everlasting bond with me, that will never be the same with any of the other Far Cry games. The same thing goes for the Vice City games in the GTA series. If you are a FC fan, it is a must buy.
We definitely agree then...best GTA game will always be Vice City because of the soundtrack, and the best FC game will always be FC5 because of the soundtrack!
I know it's fun to rag on something like Farcry for being the same thing every time. But as someone who's not played one since 3, I'm fairly interested.
I saw someone say something that seemed pretty reasonable. They said it was fine for a Far Cry game and if that’s what you like, then you’ll enjoy this. They also said to not expect anything more, and it’s the same formula as it always is. Tiresome for the same open world and same systems and goals.
I'm a huge fan of your reviews. One of the few out there I actually trust, so when you say this is "almost a buy" considering your standards, I'm going to buy it.
So, what about the story? When I finally gave FC 5 a try, the gameplay was fun, but the way the story worked took a lot of fun out of the game. Not only because you've get abducted constantly, even while sitting alone in a bloody place or doing a parachute jump, but the end was a complete mess that managed to retroactively suck all the fun out of everything I did, because it made no f*ing sense and the bad guy won anyway. I don't expect a 'Peace and War' level of writing in a computer game, let alone in an Far Cry game, but for gods sake, the story should make at least somewhat sense.
Wow I'm surprised to hear you liked it so much. Seems it's has everything I wanted from it, including some LONG awaited changes to overall level of chaos and random mayhem. I'm a big fan of the series, so I obviously pre-ordered it for my PS5, but it's still a relief to hear it should meet my expectations. Thank you, Jeremy!
Can you punch friendly NPCs like in Far Cry 5? Ubisoft makes the most annoying characters, I found myself kicking the shit out of them any time they gave me a quest.
Thank you for pointing out that most people do not even have 1080 Ti GPUs. Developers these days are developing way above common spec. Now that used to be okay, when there was a GPU supply in the market. These days, they need to be more frugal with their spec requirements.
I’m really enjoying it so far. It feels like a FC greatest hits. It’s taken a lot of ideas from previous games and put them all into one package. Doesnt do anything new but sometimes familiarity is a very good thing. If it ain’t broke…
Sadly it's broke to a lot of us as the formula is too well ....... Formulaic. And I only played 3 and already bored of the style. Also thanks to Assassin's Creed
First one I played was five and I really really liked it. I bought far cry 4 recently on a really cheap sale and I've been enjoying that as well. So even though six is probably more of the same I'm pretty sure it's going to be fun
i have to admit, i really liked Far Cry 5. Was my first one since FC 3. Of course it's not gonna reinvent the franchise, but definitely some nice and interesting changes with this one.
I dislike the hand-holding user interface, one thing I've loved about the Far Cry series is the ability to turn all that off. I hope it follows suit so I can turn the health bars off. Much more engaging when you don't know where anyone actually is
...that comment about the audio capturing the secondary slap of a flipflop on a foot encapsulates one of Ubisoft main problems... They're so concerned about MANY things that they rarely dial in their scope on what matters for a game. They really should just start practicing the "less is more" mantra that smaller dev teams and publishers wield. I mean, we as a consumer learned in the early 2010s that giant open worlds don't mean much at all. Why can't publishers figure out that spreading dev teams' design scopes only serves to rob meaningful gameplay touches of much-needed attention.
These games deserve the same scores Madden and FIFA get at this point. I’m glad it’s at a 76 on metacritic. Ubisoft games are played out. We’re all stuck playing re-runs.
But here’s the thing; a game getting less than great scores doesn’t mean anything if it still sells well. Call of Duty has pretty much been the same game for over a decade but it sells millions of copies each year; the Metacritic scores have consistently remained in the high 70s to low 80s, but the games sell so that’s what counts in the end.
@@Garrus1995 You’re right. I think it will sell well. People are starved for games. At least the lower score should get the developers attention. They all pay attention to that stuff. Sometimes bonuses are based on how well the game reviews.
Remember if you play on PC in the US, renting the game through Ubisoft's service is always an option. It's usually the cheapest too at $15/month for the max version of all Ubisoft titles.
Im some hours in and im so damn impressed so far. It looks gorgeous and sounds damn amazing and at times feels like playing mixture of Metal Gear Solid 5 and Metal Gear Solid 3. I love it!
That’s a great review, man. Informative and entertaining. Looking forward to this a lot. Honestly, though, I’d never buy an open world game at launch. There are so many bug fixes, performance improvements, system and QoL tweaks, and general improvements based on feedback that get rolled into the game over time it’s just better to wait. Three months was my general rule. Six months during COVID. Peace out.

The ubisoft rule:
Wait for a sale or get the cheaper full edition and the game is fully patched.
You mean fully developed. I still remember the shitshow of Far Cry 5's release. About only 5 variations of weapons, the game would usually get forever stuck in the night or daytime, etc
And the ridiculously small FOV.
Yes sir, this rule also applies to Bethesda games
Yep, wait a year & get all the content for far less than buying it right away. Wait longer and get all the content on sale for like $20. (That's what I did for FC5, very glad I did wait because I would have been upset to pay full price for that polished turd.)

Well micro are mostly for visuals, you don't really get anything in terms of gameplay. I don't like micro honestly and I don't think they're useful, but the industry has made it a requirement for AAA games.

About what we expected. I'll enjoy playing, but like movies, I'd prefer less explosions and wackiness, and more interesting story. The jungle thing is overdone too. These huge open worlds, but not even one medium-sized city?
Asking for that here is kinda barking up the wrong series.
Exactly. I sort of want a future one now
@@ACGreviews future far cry would be awesome on next gen consoles only
@@heymelon I get it, but we know they can up their game. Last of us, Red Dead, Uncharted, etc; it's possible to have a mass-appealing action-adventure game that does more than explosions and leveling up.
Wait! I thought there is a big city in this game and a couple of larger towns?
I basically say this word for word whenever anyone asks why I've a desire to play farcry games.

I don't expect a 'Peace and War' level of writing in a computer game, let alone in an Far Cry game, but for gods sake, the story should make at least somewhat sense.

...that comment about the audio capturing the secondary slap of a flipflop on a foot encapsulates one of Ubisoft main problems...

It's like printing money now. Nothing truly special ever comes of it though.
But here’s the thing; a game getting less than great scores doesn’t mean anything if it still sells well.
