Ok, thanks for this review and comparison. I have both the Gopro10black, and the S22 Ultra. I can get three Hero 10 units for the price of a single S22, I will say this, for me as a TH-camr who needs an always ready unit, the S22 is incredible. The best tool for image making and video sequences is always the one you have with you. We always have our phones and now we can get the moment without hesitation. But then, all about the insects and the Ultra S22 super-slow-motion is capturing activities I'd otherwise be missing. THANK YOU for this full-scope presentation. Hero 10 $399.99, Samsung Ultra S22 with 512 gigs (yes, I need that) $ 1,149.84 My Hero 10 units will be sitting the bench for a long time to come unless I need to leave something outside for time-lapse captures.
The fact that a phone who's camera wasn't made for extreme action movement is being compared to a camera that is made for it is impressive well enough.
Which lens between the Go Pro vs the S22 Ultra regarding wider view isn't the issue for me, but picture overall quality is. The S22 Ultra wins hands down!
But keep in mind that the S22 is an entire phone, GoPro is just an action camera and HAS to be compact. Give it som slack, because it has to be more compact than an S22 so there are some quality drops. Would you plunge your phone into heavy underwater usage, or a GoPro? That’s right. the GoPro is more durable. And if you lose or destroy your phone, you’re screwed. If that happens to a GoPro(not likely, it’s super tough and has GPS) all you lose is a camera. I’ll take the GoPro.
@@enhidri160 it shouldn't recive any slack since it's only purpose was to be an action camera. The only reason to go for the GoPro is if you are doing some activity that may cause damage to the camera. Other than that reason, S22 all the way.
But it depends, if you want to use a camera for action, like what the GoPro is made for, I bet you’re not gonna stick your phone on your car’s roof or your helmet when you go skiing lol, so GoPro is a winner for me!
Hey Ben, appreciate your comparison videos. Couple suggestions- you mention the Samsung has slightly better sound than the GoPro. I would say it’s massively better. Also I suggest showing motion in low light, like a band playing for example. The GoPros totally fall apart in my experience. It’s so massively pixelated and noisy it might as well be a VHS tape. Beyond bad, especially when using the digital zoom, as you showed. Try digital zoom in low light with lots of motion.
I just got a GoPro 10 black. And after fully charging it, I went to change up settings. And the thing was already very hot in my hands after 5 minutes :/ I wasn't even recording yet!
I was getting 10/15 minute long videos in 5.3k on my go pro 10 in Thailand before it completely overheated and switched off battery life wasn't the best dies way to quickly. Just bought the 1TB s22 ultra hopefully a good improvement.
I got the note 20 ultra and you just gave me an idea, it's a perfect device to motovlogs, is always ready in my pocket, i can edit in the smartphone itself, i can record more time without it's get hot af and I can use the original mic to capture the audio inside the helmet, kudos for you Sir!!!
Honestly just crazy that we're even asking this question. The fact that a phone is being compared to a dedicated camera is crazy. It is a lot more expensive though.
@@stefanxcz Of course its a lot better. Its a dedicated camera. Thats why its unfair to compare the two. Samsung is a phone. It obviously cant fit everything that the hero 10 has.
Always love the energy, note towards the end: instead of buying the newest flagship one can also not spend that thousand and get a used gopro for dedicated filming, u can be less careful for better shots without being limited to storage like on a phone
Very nice “above the water” comparison. However, I’d like to see a video comparison where a smartphone (any smartphone) can beat a GoPro in the environment it was originally designed for: in and under water, or in other extreme environments like attached to a helmet of an off-road moto-cross rider on a rocky, sandy, dusty trail in Utah or some other southwestern state🤣
Not so relevant as they are different product types. You have to weigh up whether you wish to pay more for a phone or pay less to get a dedicated action camera. It's not as black and white as price points.
I pick go pro for its water resistance and ruggedness. If any flag ship phone comes with Water resistance at least for 5 meters that would be a Game changer.
@@holmeselectric9 Galaxy S22 Ultra come with an IP68 dust/water resistance rating. That doesn't mean the phones are waterproof - they're not - but they are extremely water-resistant and should be more than durable enough for the vast majority of users
Wish I could have seen a water video comparison for the samsung to the gopro. Debating if I should just upgrade to the 22 ultra instead of buying the gopro. Great video by the way.
whats missing from reviews is this. you film yourself in your studio with your main camera at the end. i would like to see comparisons of what a phone can do in a studio with kool rgb lights in backgreound. kool video just a note most youtuibers dont do this
Great comparison video, covers all aspects. Frankly both devices operate in two different realms entirely. You want action sports videos(where u dont zoom so much) go pro for the rescue. While still photography on day to day S22 works. also go pro will never go extinct simply because for someone who wants to use a professional sports camera there isn't really a choice!
i actually took both my go pro 10 and my s22 ultra on my trip to bahamas. The s22 was better for still images and non action based video, but i still preferred the go pro for underwater, slow mo, and heavy action events ( jet skis, zip lines, etc..)if your doing heavy action recording or recording in water, the go pro is still the king. I know the s22 claims to be water resistant, but id never take a chance and snorkel a reef using my s22.
Hi Ben, great video comparison, been looking to upgrade my phone instead of getting an action cam that can record and take pictures well, would you suggest the iphone or samsung ?
Some things to consider that were not mentioned in this video: 1. GoPro low light VIDEO performance is absolute dogshit, S22 blows it out of the water. 2. Some settings used on the S22 were not comparable to the GoPro, such as the slow motion test. S22 looks better when using the same settings the GoPro was using. 3. This is a big one, the GoPro will CRASH and OVERHEAT all the time when filming in 4k or above. It is a known issue and GoPro won't fix it. Basically the only thing GoPro has over a modern smartphone is the horizontal leveling and extreme durability. If you don't need either of those features, get a previous gen flagship phone from Samsung or Apple for the same price (or less) than a new GoPro and you will be way happier.
Completely useless comparison. Compare them when the GoPro can search the internet, display maps, translate languages, make calls, and play music. Till then, this is a total waste of everyone's time. The phone is not an action camera, nor is it unreliable and subject to overhearing after a few minutes of use.
Amazing how much extra detail the GoPro records in video. Especially noticeable in grass. Any thought that smartphones might make GoPro go extinct is silly. So long as people want to get rough with the action, the GoPro is going to be a number 1 choice. Large screens break really easy, and as you point out, phones are far too valuable and useful for communication to risk anything dangerous with them.
Well it is the lower quality ultra wide, and if you want to zoom in while filming, you can use the optical lense and get a much sharper result. But as a wide angle camera, I suppose the GoPro is still better
I gave up on gopro a long time ago because I was tired of losing my clips 75% of the time, IMHO, gopros are way too unstable to use for anything you are relying on working.. Many things I take video of are not re-makeable... Relying on a gopro to capture important footage is no longer an option for me... They crash way too often to be anything more than a fun might work, might not when it doesnt really matter type camera.
I found that the optical stabilizator on Samsung S9+ completely destroys videos when the phone shakes violently (e.g. on a moving bike). I made some comparisons with GoPro 10, and GoPro looks much better. I don't know if S22 has the same problem.
all phone optical stabilizations suffer when mounted to bike. if you mount to yourself it can help slightly. but also because of phone width its more likely to shake. ive tried as much but action camera is just the best for mounting.
