    After watching your video of painting the white and black Evh strat I went ahead and painted my star caster and was absolutely amazed with the results thanks to you.... I've been building guitars on and off for several years but your channel and your advice has been some of the best I've seen yet on TH-cam.... I hope your channel has major success through The years and thanks for the info!... For those who wish to do this on their own they should follow this to the letter... Superlative video!!!!

      Thanks Alan. I appreciate it. No, not really any taping guides that I could find. I just scoured the internet and looked in the forums/groups for any photo I could find of the original Bee...saved them all and just looked through them on the screen while I was in the process of taping. I had to make a few assumptions but I think it ended up pretty dang close...well, definitely closer than the EVH Striped Series! 😆

    We're here trying to be perfectionist but do we know that Edward was a perfectionist as far as paint lines bleeding? I guess the best way is to buy a master build EVH.

    • @CoffeeDrinker71
      @CoffeeDrinker71  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Since Edward didn't paint the Bee....I think it's safe to assume that Wayne Charvel and Karl Sandoval (the original builders of the Bumblebee) did indeed strive for perfection for their customer... You can clearly see how crisp and neat the original Bee stripes were in the 2nd album photo shoot. Karl Sandoval also explains this in his own video regarding his involvement in building the Bee.

    They made two different back pattern on these guitars one is exactly like EVH's guitar and thats the tribute which sold for 25000 and the 1400 one which has a totally different back pattern the front are the same.

    What is your steps before applying the clear coats? Do you sand or scuff the paint before you start the clear coats? BTW you hands down have some of the best how to vids on youtube.

    • @CoffeeDrinker71
      @CoffeeDrinker71  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much for the kind words! For this first body, I did not scuff the Perfect Match paint...but wondering if I should have. I've read mixed advice on that, since the Spraymax is a 2K urethane it doesn't really "burn" into the previous layer like other lacquer paints. I attempted a small repair and experienced a little bit of delaminating with the clear...so I had to repair that as well. So, it probably would have been better to scuff the base color paint first?! This is the first time I've used Spraymax so I was a little unsure.

    Hello Brian. Right before you spray the black you first spray yellow to ensure your lines are crisp. How long did you wait before spraying the black ?

    • @CoffeeDrinker71
      @CoffeeDrinker71  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just long enough to allow the yellow to dry. I know that's not very specific...but lacquer dries quickly so I was able to start spraying the black within an hour or so of that final yellow top "mist" coat over the tape.

    Set that stew mac one out in the bright sun and it should change quickly. I have seen videos of guys that build replica Les Pauls and some of them set the outside to give them an aged look. It seems to work good. There is a builder out of Canada that builds really nice replicas that has some videos on his burst finishes where he does this.

    Ok I've bugged Brian enough (although feel free to chime in if you want lol) so crowd-sourcing this...anyone else following this project having issues with the tape ripping the yellow off the primer? Primer is sanded smooth (but not too), spraying about 6-7 coats of yellow before taping. Not sure if I just need to carpet-bomb it with more yellow? I'm stumped

    • @CoffeeDrinker71
      @CoffeeDrinker71  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh bummer! Yeah, I've dealt with this issue in the past. There's definitely some adhesion issues taking place. Best thing I can recommend is just lightly sanding the area and respraying with yellow again (if possible). Maybe the primer doesn't have enough "bite" mechanically speaking....

    • @katoom-ju6vo
      @katoom-ju6vo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was a bit nervous about that happening to my project too. My plan is to apply my stripping right before my final paint coat. In other words, having the tape on there for as short time as possible. I hope your project ends up working out for you.

    Hey brian i have a question im currently in the process of building a “5150” tribute guitar not an exact replica just my own thing and ive gotten to the black stripes but ive got some pretty bad like over spray its not like normal over spray its like the paint seeped under tape and i was wondering if theres anyway i can fix that

    • @CoffeeDrinker71
      @CoffeeDrinker71  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say it's probably fixable. Since the black color is on top of your other color coats, you might be able to gently scrape off the areas that seeped or "bled" underneath. You could take a rounded Xacto blade like I showed here in the video around the 37:38 mark and try scraping. If that doesn't work, you could try to very gently wet sand the black off. It might require you to re-tape off the original stripe below and shoot a quick mist coat of paint over the area that you are attempting to fix. Good luck!
