I was worse. And I wasn't a teen. I even went to England for a while knowing that I was going to meet him. I carried a ring in my purse for years knowing I was going to give it to him. I was so confident that it would all happen I didn't even trip. It took a while but it all did. And I've got pictures to prove it. Staying together might make you feel like you have a real love, when really all you've done is log some hours as a couple. Culture club was a head of there time, it was a little difficult in the beginning to accept boy George and the culture club but they were given a lot of chances they even had boy George as a guest on The A-Team TV series.

Yes! I think John Moss was still in the closet at that time. He wanted to sneak around with Boy George but be thought of as straight by everyone else. If I am not mistaken he even had a girlfriend or was she is wife?! That was so sad. I felt so sad for Boy George. They had interviewed him, Boy George, once and he said that they had been in love with each other but Moss wanted to keep it discreet.

I so enjoy listening to your channel and how OPEN you are to all kinds of genre's and styles from an older Era of music. I like your brief comments about what you think the song is about and how you share with your listeners of how the song came about and what status it received on the charts. I was in the Air Force back in 1983 as an 18 year old when this song came out living abroud in Madrid Spain. On a last minute opportunity, Culture Club knew there were some US military members in Madrid and invited us to see their concert in Madrid. I remember hearing and seeing them for the first time and though I wasn't sure what Boy George was...I was overtaken by his smooth silky vocals and playful attitude during this cycle in their emerging popularity that would catapult in 1984 and beyond. This song has always been one of my personal favorites and it still stands the test of time (no pun intended). Love this group and Boy George was so brave and on the cutting edge of society at the time (love him or hate him) many Americans including a lot of my military buddies at the time couldn't help but like their music. We got a chance to go back stage after the concert and do a quick meet and greet and they were so Lovely and fun. TIme won't give me Time... :) Please discover their other great hits, like the classic "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me' and "Miss Me Blind". For some reason, your videos keep popping up in my recommendations.. This is about the third one I've watched so far and I like your attitude towards the 80s music. As someone as young as you are who are actually giving that era a chance and listening to the music, deserves major respect points... The music videos told stories just as much as the music themselves. But, for some of the 80s music, you just need to close your eyes and allow the music to sink in. That's how we would experience alot of the music when they were first released. I did and still do love the music videos.. Each one of them have their amazing place in my childhood and will forever be cherished. But sometimes watching the music video doesn't give you the full experience of the song... I’ve just watched your two Culture Club reaction videos and I want to thank you so much for doing this. I was 15 when this came out and became a Culture Club Fan immediately and still am to this day. I saw them in concert in 1984 and then again in 2016 - 32 years later. I love seeing your reaction. it takes me back to how I first felt about Culture Club. By the way the other 3 band members where in the Karma Chameleon video. Roy and Jon are the two guys playing cards with the bad guy and Mikey was hangin’ out there too. They do blend in but Boy George always stands out :) He actually is still very active today and has been a mentor on the last three seasons of Australia’s version of “The Voice”.

My favourite CC song...and can't go past that 80's synthetic funky bass. Boy George had some hard times with identity, drugs etc but so glad he's back and still going and has a new fan base and is popular as ever....love his song King of Everything over 30 years later from the Culture Club days.
Where I live this album was premiered on our soul radio. It was the song Do You Really Want To Hurt Me. And this song Time was also played on the soul R&B. If you were black and grew up in the 80s you knew who Boy George was.
Culture Club had only one Number One hit on the Billboard Singles Charts, for "Karma Chameleon", but they had a lot of hit songs that charted in the early-1980s, and a lot of music videos that got "heavy rotation" on MTV. They recorded for Virgin Records, which was the "modern music" arm of a record company that put out old Blues records for re-release. Culture Club was a perfect fit for Virgin Records, because they put out songs that were Soul and Reggae-based. Their first big hit was for the song and music video, "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?". The record label had to release an alternate music video in the US (taken from a UK TV performance), because the original music video featured some characters in blackface (although the characters were not treated badly in the music video). Two Culture Club music videos that I like, are for the songs, "Church Of The Poison Mind" (featuring vocal work by singer Helen Terry), and "I'll Tumble For Ya".
firstly, i agree with all your comments! But I have to say firstly, I was honoured to meet the band, and they ALL are the nicest people. Secondly, Georges voice is so smooth and soulful. His voice is rich round and thick. Ofcourse, now his voice is a bit more course, but still totally unique. This is my favourite CC song. Ive been following them since 1983 or so, and im now 51 yo, these songs still bring me back to those days.

Much George’s writing is autobiographical. I’d always seen this as a song about an openly gay man having a relationship with a closeted gay man (who could those two be?) and saying that if he comes out and accepts the relationship in time it can be okay, but if he decides not to come out time will destroy the relationship. Jon of course did not come out and the relationship was self destructive.

My favorite band at the time. Kissing To Be Clever had some good reggae beats to it and such a blend of sounds. Victims and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and great songs.
What made them so amazing is that they did what no group to this day could do. He mixed Punk Rock Influences, Carribbean Reggae (whose influence was featured in The Police's Early Tracks), and of course American Soul. The Brits are/were just passionate about R & B as their American Counterparts. If you can check out "Mistake #3).
When they bursted onto the radio and TV with "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," I was a teen into only British post-punk, new wave, new Romantic... Boy George shook EVERYTHING up. Being gay was still very secretive and unheard of to be as open and flamboyant as he was an NOT be a comedian. The strangest thing is they were played on my alternative raido as well as my parents' radio stations. Alternative teens loved him, mums and nans loved him too! A rare lighting strike.

I’ve just watched your two Culture Club reaction videos and I want to thank you so much for doing this. I was 15 when this came out and became a Culture Club Fan immediately and still am to this day. I saw them in concert in 1984 and then again in 2016 - 32 years later. I love seeing your reaction. it takes me back to how I first felt about Culture Club. By the way the other 3 band members where in the Karma Chameleon video. Roy and Jon are the two guys playing cards with the bad guy and Mikey was hangin’ out there too. They do blend in but Boy George always stands out :) He actually is still very active today and has been a mentor on the last three seasons of Australia’s version of “The Voice”.
He wrote this about his relationship with the drummer. Time won't give him time for his partner to spend the time to love him. They had a very rocky relationship. George really loved him.

My favourite CC song...and can't go past that 80's synthetic funky bass. Boy George had some hard times with identity, drugs etc but so glad he's back and still going and has a new fan base and is popular as ever....love his song King of Everything over 30 years later from the Culture Club days.

Where I live this album was premiered on our soul radio. It was the song Do You Really Want To Hurt Me. And this song Time was also played on the soul R&B. If you were black and grew up in the 80s you knew who Boy George was.

Culture Club had only one Number One hit on the Billboard Singles Charts, for "Karma Chameleon", but they had a lot of hit songs that charted in the early-1980s, and a lot of music videos that got "heavy rotation" on MTV. They recorded for Virgin Records, which was the "modern music" arm of a record company that put out old Blues records for re-release. Culture Club was a perfect fit for Virgin Records, because they put out songs that were Soul and Reggae-based. Their first big hit was for the song and music video, "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?". The record label had to release an alternate music video in the US (taken from a UK TV performance), because the original music video featured some characters in blackface (although the characters were not treated badly in the music video). Two Culture Club music videos that I like, are for the songs, "Church Of The Poison Mind" (featuring vocal work by singer Helen Terry), and "I'll Tumble For Ya".
I saw him in Concert in 1984 and we were all on Acid.....nice.

firstly, i agree with all your comments! But I have to say firstly, I was honoured to meet the band, and they ALL are the nicest people. Secondly, Georges voice is so smooth and soulful. His voice is rich round and thick. Ofcourse, now his voice is a bit more course, but still totally unique. This is my favourite CC song. Ive been following them since 1983 or so, and im now 51 yo, these songs still bring me back to those days.

I am so lucky to be growing up as a teenager in the 80s - the nascent MTV changing the way we see and consume music but more importantly, we get a myriad of lovely bands and singer-songwriters who gave us tunes that are so memorable, timeless, and beautiful ... I love Culture Club!! Their 2018 album LIFE is SO GOOD!!
You know George sang duets with Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and many more. This Boy has some voice. And people knew.

Yes, I love that too! They could have so many different sounds but it always sounded like Culture Club.
Much George’s writing is autobiographical. I’d always seen this as a song about an openly gay man having a relationship with a closeted gay man (who could those two be?) and saying that if he comes out and accepts the relationship in time it can be okay, but if he decides not to come out time will destroy the relationship. Jon of course did not come out and the relationship was self destructive.
Culture Club were part of the 2nd wave of British Invasion to the American charts which included Durran Duran, Wham! and Tears for Fears.

My favorite band at the time. Kissing To Be Clever had some good reggae beats to it and such a blend of sounds. Victims and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and great songs.

What made them so amazing is that they did what no group to this day could do. He mixed Punk Rock Influences, Carribbean Reggae (whose influence was featured in The Police's Early Tracks), and of course American Soul. The Brits are/were just passionate about R & B as their American Counterparts. If you can check out "Mistake #3).

When they bursted onto the radio and TV with "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," I was a teen into only British post-punk, new wave, new Romantic... Boy George shook EVERYTHING up. Being gay was still very secretive and unheard of to be as open and flamboyant as he was an NOT be a comedian. The strangest thing is they were played on my alternative raido as well as my parents' radio stations. Alternative teens loved him, mums and nans loved him too! A rare lighting strike.
