12 Most Incredible Abandoned Planes

    There are three places you might reasonably expect to find a plane. The first and most obvious place is in the sky. The second is at an airport, either loading or unloading goods or passengers. The third is in a hangar, waiting for a new job to do. If they turn up anywhere else, it tends to be a surprise to see them. Just like old clothes, disused mobile phones, and broken down cars, though, planes can become abandoned - and they can turn up in some unusual places when it happens.

      @@Skyhawk996 Kindly endeavour to correct me if l am wrong. That's not entirely true: if you consider the engines an intrinsic part of an aircraft we continue to build Rolls Royce engines currently used, according to Wiki, on 7 aircraft. (Donald Trump's plane uses them - not verified.)

    • @Skyhawk996
      @Skyhawk996 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnkean6852 yes, I am aware that the British still make aircraft engines. Most 747s have a GE or Rolls-Royce engine. Aircrafts are being built by Britain just not in the numbers they used to. But, the world can only progress if we work together. It should be irrelevant who builds it... Now if Trump rides on one that's kind of irrelevant also.. But yes his private 757 has Rolls-Royce RB211s.

    At 4:03 the Concorde is referred to as a French aircraft. It was developed as an Angalo-French project (BAE-Sud avaiaion) with the origial design being a Bristol type 223. just as the Mirage 3 started life as the Fairy Delta, both of these aircraft are actually British designs. note that the fairy delta development and testing had Australian assistance as well.
    At 2:50, it is inferred that the Canberra is an Australian design. It was actually designed by English electric and named after the Australian capital. They were manufactured in Australia, UK and adopted by the USAF as a B57.
    Australian Canberras were active in the Vietnamese conflict flying over 12000 sorties with the loss of just 2 aircraft.

    • @geoffk777
      @geoffk777 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Richard McCaig The first guy is totally correct. The TU-144 was reluctantly put by Aeroflot on an obscure route and it still suffered an average of more than one systems failure per flight. Tupolev himself had to personally approve each flight. And after a near-disaster, passenger service was stopped altogether after a few months. The plane had fundamental flaws in structural design and engineering. Wikipedia has an excellent entry on it.
      But it's much easier to criticize other posters than to actually learn about what you're talking about.

    • @andrejansen9003
      @andrejansen9003 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      16 Tu 144 's were built, exactly the same number as the Concorde. The Concorde was however far more useful as a passenger craft although not from an economic point of view

    • @geoffk777
      @geoffk777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrejansen9003 Again that's not strictly true. The TU-144 was an economic disaster that never turned a profit. By contrast, Concorde's service was reasonably profitable, due to high fares and exclusivity. It wasn't until late in its life that fuel and service costs became excessive. You can't call Concorde a total success like the Boeing 747, but it was profitable and successful in its niche for many years.

To save money they decided on a joint project, the basic design by the British was adopted and RR already had developed suitable engines. The issue with Concorde has been well noted, I am similarly intrigued by the Australian Canberra, the ENGLISH ELECTRIC CANBERRA was about as British as you could get, it was built under licence in the USA and Australia, but the aircraft was certainly British designed and powered..

    Two times you referred to the aircraft as steel bird's. If they were made of steel they would never get off the ground due to the extreme weight of steel.

    The aircraft rotting into the weeds behind the Skylark Hotel should not surprise anybody, they are laying only a few metres from the main runway of what used to be Southend Airport, a place I visited many times in my younger days, just to wander around the Aircraft Museum they had there. The exhibits on display were interesting enough to make time irrelevant, to the annoyance of my (then) wife! Southend Airport is now owned by the Eddie Stobart Group.
