Thing is that one of those ten dwarves is the king and the dwarves were encouraged to fight more because their king was fighting with them also the orcs don’t know that bard killed Smaug so they think Thorin killed it

If the elves were to do melee it would have been best to flank from the sides in a bull's horn type of formation. The dwarves had a strong shield wall and when combined with their spears were practically an agile tank. The elves should have surrounded the orcs to make sure none could splinter off.

Not every elf got an Bow and Arrow. Some of them got bows other got sword.
But it is still Dumb. Because you should always stay behind the spears.

@@iimoryomaru1927 Well, the Winterfell battle wasn't a big deal, most dead Dothraki got resurrected and the Night King Lv.50 was oneshottee by an Arya Lv.95 who did all sidequests first.

The only thing about this edit is that I always liked the dramatic pause between Bombur blowing the war horn and the bell knocking down the wall. That moment is pretty much the best part of Battle of the Five Armies

The scenes of the Elves, Men and Dwarves losing work better here, being placed as Thorin fights Azog. It shows what is at stake in the duel as opposed to the rest of the battle being forgotten about the moment they get to Ravenhill.
Dwarves employ an essentially perfect phalanx, the formation that built Alexander's empire. Elves, a race known for the greatest archers in all of middle earth: "hmmmm let's jump over it and fight in the open field"
To be fair they are known for being the best at everything in middle earth lol

Showing the armies, then cutting to bilbo getting knocked out, and finally him waking up to see Thorin is the best cut i my opinion
The movie is about the Hobbit afterall
It is, but Thorin and Bilbo's friendship are a big part of the story itself, so... It makes sense to explore Thorin cinematically, but they'd actually have to write it to make sense. They did not...
What I like about the Hobbit:

Bilbo talking to dwarves
Bilbo talking to elves
Bilbo talking to Gollum
Bilbo talking to Smaug
What I don't like about the hobbit:
Characters who are not Bilbo while being focused in the story is talking
We need a new official cut of the whole Hobbit series. This shorter last act is way better.

All the orc battles in all three movies had a sense of "what the hell good is that fearsome looking armor if you can cut through it with one stroke?!" 🤣 what's it made of, tin foil?

Nothing , NOTHING I tell you beats that Dwarven shield wall in terms of goosebumps imo, that scene was AMAZING they just charge in no matter what to defend Erebor. Fuck man if only the dwarven armies got more love :/
My only critique is that I think you need the brief scene of Thorin taking a ram to ride up the hill in order for the whole Bilbo being knocked out thing to make sense

Man this is awesome! It conveys everything without making the battle look ridiculous! I’m making a fan edit of the hobbit, and I think this would be the perfect way to interpret it! Would love to see some more edits man!

it's not just the length, it is also the whole "put-through-instagram-filters" look that is offputting about the hobbit trilogy.
And the CGI armies. They look to perfect, like they filmed jusy one soldier and multiplied it a 1000 times.
The "maple films" fan edit, color corrects the 3 movies into one, and makes it look more natural. Its not perfect, but i recommend it.
Yeah, it looks like shit. The CGI is garbage, and the whole set design is just plain comical, especially when compared to the LotR trilogy.
@@iwasadeum The CGI is actually very good. The thing that is off putting is they increased the frame rate, to double of what you normally see in movies. So everything looks far smoother than what we are used to. So it comes off as wrong. Dain is a good example, people thought he was CGI. When in fact he wasn't. Tie the frame rate to the odd use of color filtering and it throws off a lot of people.

Great edit my man. I love how you made it look like Bolg and Beorn we're fighting. THAT definitely should've been in the movie like in the book, as it would've been a great revenge fight for Beorn and a payoff for his establishment in DoS

They explained this. While legolas is more acrobatic, his dad is more brutal get to the kill kind of way.

In screenwriting one page equals a minute of screen time. The battle in the book is five pages…a fine edit.

Dwarves built perfect phalanx wall...elves jump over it, rendering it useless. Gets me every time.
Also If the Orks would have held off their attack, the Dwarfs and Elves would have battled for quite a while. Then the Orks would have only had to contend with what was left.
Once again great fan edit. I also have some constructive criticism if you don’t mind. Just small things. I don’t think you should cut anything. However, I do think that a couple of extended scenes should be put in to enhance the characters. 1. Bilbo in the Shire Market. This one isn’t really necessary, just gives a good look at the Shire so when new viewers go to watch LOTR they are more familiar with the place. 2. Bilbo in Rivendell. I think this would add to the feeling of being in paradise. It would also add a set up to be a pay off in LOTR when Bilbo accepts Elronds offer and goes to live in Rivendell. It also shows that the company were there for a little longer, as in the book they stayed for about two weeks. This includes his conversation with Elrond. 3. Bilbo trying to sneak away in the mountains and his conversation with Bofur. It sets up the great moment between them when Bilbo is sneaking away to deliver the Arkenstone to Bard. 4. Thorin and Thranduil’s scene after the dwarves are captured. I fee this is almost a necessary scene, because the dwarves imprisonment feels too short and has less impact without it. It also makes Thranduil’s resolve to help in the battle a better payoff. And the last scene, is Thorin’s funeral. With the quick cut of the battle of the five armies, some might not understand that Fili and Kili also died. The funeral also gives more emotion to Bilbo’s connection to Thorin. And it gives a clear ending to what happens to Dáin and his coronation. I think if you added those scenes this fan edit would be as perfect as you can get.
Vortex Flash I agree with most of that, and when I do try to make the best version of the Hobbit I can make, much of that will make the cut. However for this project I wanted to be as close to the book as I could, just as an experiment. I actually have a lot of ideas for my attempt at making the best version of the Hobbit that I can. One of them gives us a much more interesting villain.

For the town folks , this week is a real bummer , first a damn flying lizard scorches your town and burns everyone, then an orc army slaughters those that remain .

Tbh Azog was a good commander and used some decent strategy. I guess he didn't have plot armor.
This is how long this movie should have been given it only takes up 5 pages of the book.
Shame upon Hollywood, when a fan-editor's work gives me more chills down the spine than the original.
This was also more Book-focused, as best as possible with the given scenes. So credit to you, good sir!

You have to show why Thorin snaps out of his dragon sickness, that’s one of the flaws of the book that imo the film does better.

Nah the book is flawless
There is no such thing as dragon sickness in the book, completely made up for the movie. Thorin is just greedy and doesn’t care about anyone else until he gets mortally wounded and regrets all the crappy stuff he said to Bilbo. In the book they left the mountain when the battle started to help the dwarves (their relatives) in the fight.
In the movie they tried to make The Arkenstone like The One Ring. In the book it was just a cool and unique stone that symbolized the mountain king. Thorin definitely wanted it but he wouldnt go around hurting the people he cares about or charging while the dragon is still there. He wouldnt be driven mad by it. Dragon sickness does not exist. In the book, the only reason he didnt give the people of Lake Town the promised gold was because the elves were there. They didnt owe the elves anything. Thorin even said something along the lines of, "Once the elves who are armed for war leave, I will gladly give you what was promised." The elves refused to leave and the people of Lake Town had a better chance of winning if they sided with the elves so they did, since there was no hope of them leaving.

Everytime I watch the elves jumping over the drawfs to fight first, I got goosebump.
This is superb editing. While for obvious reasons the sound mix could be better, the replacing of shots and key moments culminates in what would be a fantastic, cheese free, finale of a single honest depiction of The Hobbit. Excellent work!
So many people saying this battle wasn’t as good as the hype, when this was definitely more epic and made more sense than the cartoon version, where they’re literally at each other’s throats, but once the goblins show up, they’re like “we’re good now”
The Hobbit should have been just one movie. Maximum two!
Deleted scene following Thorin slaying Azog: Thorin leans in close to his enemy, holds his hand under his chin, and drools a mouthful of spit. With the spit he paints Dwarven runes over Azog’s lifeless face. “TH. R. A. I. N. Thrain. My father! That was my FATHER’S name!” With a final spit upon his enemy, Thorin heaves himself off the corpse of the slain orc, stops a moment to catch his breath, and limps off to rejoin the battle.
What a good way to disrupt a beautiful phalnx position by jumping out. Geez hollywood

Very well done, but you absolutely needed that moment of near failure before the Company charged out. The battle never feels desperate enough to justify the way the film has been shot and produced, it just feels like Thorin was a bit slow to figure out what's going on.
These proves that the phrase "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is not true all the time. Sometimes you have to fight them together or fight the other side first before you finish the other one.

He almost definitely regrets the circumstances in which they were made, and he probably regrets needing to be the one to make them, but he was given kind of an impossible decision to not make and I don’t think he can regret having made it.

Unfortunately Warner Brothers wanting to make it a trilogy caused Guillermo Del Toro to quit the project and they told Peter if you don’t direct this, the person we get to might not wanna do it in New Zealand, so as far as he’s concerned he had no choice. Then all the pre-production for what was to be two movies had to be completely redone. It’s a grossly out of context quote people refer to when they say that Peter Jackson winged this trilogy, however it didn’t even have 10% of the preproduction Lord of the Rings did.
Dwarves form an epic looking phalanx, with double rows of shields, it looks fucking unbreakable only to have the elves just jump over them and rush the orcs before a single orc was killed by the formation. Greedy ass studio destroying a great book only to earn some quick money. Still the movies did present some of the things in an amazing way.
Can you possibly kill more of the dwarves so I feel really sad at the end. Supposed to be only 6/13 by the end. Really good work!
