I thought the nipple part was the most obvious, and least likely to fool P&T, but maybe they saw something that proves that it couldn't have been done they way I think it was done. For the salt part, I have one theory that perhaps it's not actually salt, but some other white powder with the necessary physical properties to allow the trick to work. Specifically, something more slippery than salt, and perhaps that can be ground into a finer powder than salt usually is. The first thing I would have thought Penn would have said, would have been to ask if it was real salt. Or in typical Teller fashion, to go up and taste the salt to see if it was really salt. Having said that, it still would not explain the entire trick, only the way the salt can keep pouring continuously and so smoothly. I am reminded of the "Rain Maker" trick that uses bowls of water instead of salt. I remember a longer version of that Aesop's Fable, involving a giraffe and a pig. While the lion is afraid of the cock's crow, and the elephant is afraid of the buzzing gnat, the giraffe is afraid of spilling salt all over, and the pig is afraid of one of his nipples being removed. It just goes to show that we don't have to be ashamed of our little fears and neuroses, because everyone has them, even if they're not the same as yours.
I hope you leave the interview long form. editing really ain't the way anymore. throw it out there like a video podcast situation, we want to hear the inside baseball stuff
Awesome performance by Mario. I didn't know of him so I am excited to go watch more of his stuff. Thanks Jason, great video as always. I like how much you enjoyed the performance and the comedy.
Wow, you surprised me that ur a magic fan, i have been watching ur vedios and ur always dealing with algorithms and data structure and i wanna be like you, i am also a programmer!
I really appreciate the fact that, despite they (maybe) weren't fooled, they gave him the trophy because they simply enjoyed themselves, took pleasure in his show, and want to show him their appreciation. Lovely and honest guys.
The nipple was such an easy trick but totally unanticipated. Requires a hairless chest for best effect. Perhaps Penn and Teller called it on the nipple trick because they were really fooled by the salt. Brilliant performance.
I think they called it on the nipple trick because it acts as a setup trick to show there were no salt bags of any kind around his body so he must have hidden those bags somewhere and they have no idea where.
Yeah I agree that you have to have a hairless and swimmers build. Because if you have extra weight on you or you have pecks I think it would be easy to tell.
it's not just about how he did the trick, it's about how he deliver it to the audience. The easiest trick can be so entertaining with an amazing acting.
I love magic acts where you get so encapsulated in what's going on that it makes you forget that he's performing magic, so at the end you have to think back and say "Wait....where *did* all of that salt come from?!?!?" Stupendous performance. I'm glad the nipple got them, because it was so sudden and unexpected and just bizarre XD Edit: Also, the dude just seemed so humble and like he enjoyed old school magic. There were no big reveals or epic soundtracks or even big props. It's literally like he combined the art of magic with the art of miming and it was glorious.
They werent fooled by the nipple. Litterally everyone knows how he did that and they just wanted him to perform with them because he's funny and would bring in money.
Dude I don't know if you've been told this or where you got the idea from, but the fact that in certain moments you look at the camera and convey your thoughts without saying a word, makes these videos that much better.
I just watched this performance earlier and was so happy when I saw the thumbnail!! Mario Lopez is such a legend. That camera angle when it shows that he doesn’t have a tube or anything going down is arm is such an awesome kicker. As far as the salt shaker cap flying off, my only guess is that it’s a very repelling trick but he performs it with a very magnetic personality.
one of the best on fool us for sure i love mario lopez his creativity and sense of humor realy raise the bar of his tricks one of my all time favorite street magicians.
The 1st time I saw Mario preform was with the cigarette trick and I was blown away and everything else after was just amazing!!! He never disappoints and you never know what to expect, he’s the greatest and like Penn said he’s so casual and comfortable on stage and I’m sure it takes a BUNCH of skill to do. Can’t wait to see what he does next and would love to see a full show from him because I already know it would be nonstop entertainment.
Mario is one of those guys that have those faces the moment you see those guys instantly you know hes a total king. When he smiles you MUST smile. Its a damn magic in itself. Eddie Marcus is another example from magic circle. PS. Marios instagram is a GOLD MINE of ideas primarely, but also such smooh performances, GREAT ACTING, and the feeling of randomness, impromptu tricks he has is un-paralleled. Every video of his looks like he tought of that on the spot. Thats a skill. Also, his coin routine on istagram with that, how its called, the little "racket" you kill flyes with, is one of the most magical things I saw in a long, long time. LOVE THIS GUY!
This was easily one of the best acts I have seen there. It seems so simple yet its awestrucking and magical. And super funny in a way you havent seen before. Just great.
I don't get emotional often but every time Penn and Teller get fooled I get a little teary eyed. I can only imagine how much time you illusionists put into your craft.
I loved this trick. There are a few moments that are simple enough to catch and figure out, but like you said, that left hand is the main event. There were a couple of moments early on that you could catch him loading it, but there was a LONG stretch that he didn't or if he did, it was so quick and smooth that it's incredibly easy to miss. It's just brilliant and so much fun to watch.
This was a very enjoyable performance to watch. It was like watching a cartoon in life if I may say. For me, Shawn Farquhar on P&T (all 3 performances) was my favourite one because his energy makes me laugh but also bring me joy . Jason, I like your intro with the marker pen, that make me smile again. Also, your disappearance at the end close the loop very well. So great work, keep it up!
A real joy to watch ! I got bored of the 'grandiose' magic of Copperfield and its allways been the low key, up close, street magic that gets me..Mario is for me, and many, many people, the king of this stuff and the clowning is so highly skilled too! I know that we can probably work out the mechanics of such tricks, but the delivery is absolutely wow!!..and makes me doubt that I've actually.. ever,.. really.. worked out the mechanics at all.. am in awe!
Me and my friends lost somebody today in our Inner Circle to a tragic gun accident. He never would have bought it if all the chaos did not happen the past couple of months. We're losing people everyday to ridiculous things going to end up losing more people to the chaos then to the pandemic if this keeps up. Time for everybody to take a step back . thank you Jason for at least distracting me for a couple minutes. I always look forward to this whenever I'm having a bad day💙
OMG! As Mario Lopez' fan, I'm so happy he did appear in this show, so happy P&T got fooled (HUGE RESPECT), so happy that Jason did a reaction video on this one.
I sincerely enjoy watching your videos Jason. It's nice to watch someone so positive and funny with magic acts that aren't attacking and nit-picking the performance. Breath of fresh air to see that. Most just sit there and tell everyone hiow it's done and ruin the "magic" part of it. Great to see this style of reaction to such great performers :)
The salt pour is a direct skill. He loads up a bunch of salt and can subtly adjust his fingers to control when it's going out. The salt loads are done using regular sleight of hand tricks but it requires a ridiculous amount of skill to be able to do them without salt going everywhere when you do the load giving away the technique.
I loved this act SO MUCH. So so great. And it didn’t hurt that this act featured a audience reaction shot of my friends Emma and Lucas, and my wife Laura in audience!
One of the most entertaining I've seen. I noticed in the beginning of the trick I got a glimpse of what looked like a thumb tip. Then after he exhausted that little bit he went to throw it behind his back releasing a bunch more as his hand smacked his coat. -I couldn't see a tube either for the main stream out of his bare arm. Maybe he wore prosthetic skin?
Happy to see Mario on here after many people recommending him! Loved the outcome... now it's Alex Boyer and Chris Ramsay's turn to get on fool us along with Jason!
It's funny how I no longer watch Fool Us without Jason. I think about it sometimes but I think in COVID times it's so nice to watch things with people and Jason is so calming and chill.

I love how Mario acts just as surprised as the audience.
This and his rotating cigarette routine are among my memorable favourites of all time.
That's the trick I know him from! It's been bugging me and I couldn't figure out where I had seen him before, but that's the one. Thanks!
He is as skilled as he is humble
His "rolling a joint" one (whatever it's called) is pretty cool, too.
One of the best acts on Fool Us ever, no doubt!
Almost as magical as how easy it is to learn how to pass the system design interview ;)
Hey you ! go back to your JS XD
Hey algorithms man you’re not supposed to be here 😅
Wow, you surprised me that ur a magic fan, i have been watching ur vedios and ur always dealing with algorithms and data structure and i wanna be like you, i am also a programmer!
im pretty sure he covered his nipple withe the jacket
My favourite thing about his performance is that the “climax” is nothing. It’s a beautiful moment.
