probably one of the least elaborate (looking) tricks to fool them. thats the beauty of it. watching this show always has you wondering what big twist is coming, but this was subtle, that was it, and it worked.
my guess, at 2:31, he grabs and conceals a REAL egg in his hand while presenting an especially thin bandana (of which will fold into a very small size) hanging out of his closed, seemingly "empty" hand. it is possible there is something sticky prepared on one end of the bandana to the back of the egg to make things easier, but if not, even more impressive handwork. i noticed that he's very careful to never let go of a grip near the bandana, because it's not actually safely inside the egg when he pushes the bandana into his hand, he pushes it towards the back of the egg where he can bunch the entire bandana up into a small ball as to appear like it has been stuffed into the egg by 3:34 where his index finger is holding a bunched up bandana. the egg is real the entire time. he never displayed how strong it was, he only appeared to pull the ribbon out of a "hole" on the back, which i believe he is artifically presenting as being pulled out of some kind of hole, when he is actually unfolding it from the pinched bunch it in order to make it appear like it is being stuffed inside of something, then seemingly pulling it "out" of the egg, which is really just unbunching the ribbon straight. at the end, he simply cracks the egg into the cup, which surprises those who were convinced that the egg was plastic just because he said so. very impressive performance, and nice job for fooling them!

@@deecook8393 i personally don't believe so. i think there's no hole, and that every time it *looks like* he is stuffing the bandana in the egg, he's bunching it up and pressing it against the back of the egg with a finger, and every time he "pulls it out", he's unravelling the bunch while pinching with 2 fingers as to create the illusion of a "hole" to pull the bandana out of. if you think about it, if there was a hole in a real egg, i would imagine that there might be a sign of a leaking egg, or egg matter on the bandana since it is later revealed to be a full egg with yolk inside. also he'd probably have to be incredibly careful not to further destroy the egg while performing, and by the time he cracked it, it seemed quite strong like a full real egg. the reason i believe there was no plastic egg, is because like Penn said, i saw absolutely no moment where a switch could have happened.

Great trick. My deduction is that it is a eggshell like structure that has two parts. A sealed one with egg insides (at the bottom) and another empty with a hole that he puts the cloth in at the top. So at the end with the egg reveal, you can see that the yolk comes out runny. But yolks are proper when you crack an egg, they are not blended in the white. Hence he "stuffed" the half with egg insides from a real egg. But he also "dumped" the evidence in the glass. Hence why he said yes it is real egg in the glass, BUT theres also the fake part too!
My guess is that he had a plastic half shell with a hole in the top that went behind the real egg. Notice the way he holds the egg throughout the routine. When he cracks the egg, it seems that he palms something and keeps it covered as he grabs the handkerchief. Then when he wipes his hand with the napkin, it looks like he is ditching the half shell in the napkin.
@@nudsh the way he holds the egg makes me think there never was a fake egg, he just said there was but really knows how to fold the bandana tightly and hold it so it looks like it is completely hidden in the egg, just a good old fashion lie/misdirection and selling it really well. watch it again with this in mind. the whole time after he "pulls out" the bandana he has a finger on it to keep it secure.

That is my thinking too. It was always a real egg and the red scarf did go into it. it is amazing how little space those things take up. I thought Caleb might have made an effort to make it 'look' like he made a switch to fool them but he didn't need to.

Great act and very well done. My initial take was that P&T would not be fooled, but on the other hand it was so clean. I am not a magician but I was thinking switch, and before Pen started talking I had a hunch this fooled them. Awesome job!
My guess is that it is a real egg the whole time. Caleb just bunched up the bandana and make it look like it's stuffed inside the egg, when it is not inside the egg at all. The misdirection is getting P&T to look for the switch, which never happened. Great job, Caleb.
I think you're right. At the end when he pulled the bandana "out" of the egg, it looks like it was just stuck to the back and came off, not from inside the egg. The bandana is a really thin material, so you could really bunch it up and be tiny on the side of the egg
Your performance was stellar, Caleb. The ONLY problem with fooling Penn & Teller at your age is this: how do you top this stunning professional achievement?!!! You're too young to retire? Well done, my friend!! So very happy for you!!
If I've got any idea close to how he did it, he won't have a problem making more magic to come back on the show. He's got an eye to go beyond the normal trick. He's skilled enough to do this? He's already got a long career set up.
@@drummerrjrj Yep. And appearing on this show, even if you don't fool P&T, often leads to increased bookings for many contestants. Continued success, Caleb! You're an engaging and clever magician.
What an awesome why to let him know that they were fooled. Everything was clean, and he did a great job. Penn & Teller are awesome in their own rights and quit knowledgeable. What a wonderful way to start the discussion on his magic trick.
Caleb, so delighted I found your clip. You brought such charm and joy to the trick, it was palpable. Not to mention I have no idea how you did your trick. Then again, neither did Penn & Teller.
Egg-cellent, simple foolery Caleb!!!! I'm shocked that you fooled them!! It was apparent that you never stuffed the egg and that you had adhesive on the back and simply practiced how to perfectly pretend to stuff it "in" when in fact, it was just hidden underneath the rest of the silk!! Marvelous, simplistic!! Sometimes that's the way to blow everybody's mind!!!! Kudos!!! And the egg was pulverized by your crack method so no one would really ever be digging out little shell pieces to find the sticky parts all covered with egg!!👍👍
To those questioning why P&T were fooled by this trick - They knew what Caleb did, this is a variation on a very old gag. But neither of them saw the way he did it. The rules are a little gray with FU, but in general with this type of trick one of them has to have seen exactly how/when the trick was done, and Penn took a chance that it was a tricked egg at the end, but Caleb said it was not, so they were left not sure exactly how Caleb had pulled the switch.
Was it maybe a real egg modified to hold the handkerchief and "sold" as a plastic egg through patter? (I'm just a spectator so I don't know if the question is overreaching).
The question was if it was real egg and eggshell in the glass. He didn't lie when he said yes, but the other half of the egg was fake and held the handkerchief. Watch him awkwardly "crush" the egg in the glass, then awkwardly pull his hand out and grab the handkerchief with his hand in a palming manner, and then when he passes the fake half of the egg to his left hand as he was "wiping" his hands clean with the towel.
@@brad2751 Yes, that was my point. He "fooled" them because technically they didn't guess the specific gag he used to fool them. It's a very gray line, I've seen them dismiss other acts where they were able to describe the general method that was used, but in this case, it seems that Penn had to guess the specific when/how the switch was done, and they decided that his guess was wrong.
@@brad2751 Yeah that's what I meant. (I mean the top half doesn't even necessarily have to be fake. Just a hollowed-out half with a membrane, or something; which is very cool in terms of verbal misdirection both during the trick and after).
He takes a real egg and cuts a hole in the top/side very carefully. He either keeps the membrane in the egg intact so it doesn't leak OR he drains out some of the egg and puts a temporary barrier inside the egg to seperate the guts from the handkerchief. He cracks the egg open at the end and destroys any evidence of alteration to the egg.
He squeezes it so it’s hard to tell but it looks to me like there aren’t any whites that come out of the egg. You’d be left with a yolk (or two) that would be less than half the space egg leaving enough room for a handkerchief. The membrane around the yolk would keep the handkerchief dry if put in carefully. Squeezing it at the end would look like nothing was wrong with it. If he didn’t crush it the yolk would just slip out. (I actually just tried this..clumsily and I could see how it this could totally work…I have no where near the skill set to pull it off though…lol)
@@falsnamae3511 First option is most logical IMO. He taps the egg, says it's plastic, when it isn't; it was a fully formed egg from the start. He tucks the bandana in folding patterns to minimize surface area, while gripping the egg tightly and allowing a bit of bandana to stay flapped out. In fact, I believe he may have even coated the egg with a hardening/sticky material, thus the overneeded hit on the glass to break. The brilliance of the trick is that he allows you to get ahead of him and make clear assumptions based on his amateury schtick. Nice trick Caleb, if you're reading this.
I'm happy for Caleb, but how did such a simple trick like that fool Penn and Teller? From the very first moment Caleb reached into the nest, I knew exactly how he was doing the trick, and I am not exactly a magic expert. I think it would have been more convincing if Caleb had a more natural or varied positioning on his left hand, so it would be less obvious that the bandana was just being held against the outside of the egg instead of pushed "inside" it. One suggestion would be for Caleb to have some sort of lightly attached, well designed sticker on the egg that would give the illusion of an actual hole in the shell. Then he could show the audience the whole egg briefly, perhaps rotating it 360° for them, which would then help sell the illusion that the bandana had a hole to be pushed inside.
Dude this is just Awesome, Not only did you get on the show(Big Deal in itself) but you Fooled the Two most iconic figures in Magic on Prime TV(BIG TIME). Steller work my friend. Just Amazing!! Congrats
Great trick man, and it was hilarious watching them come up on the stage at the end because you can really see Teller looking at that glass like a hawk, you just know he was desperate to dig in and see for himself. He's like LET ME IN THERE MAN. What a fun experience all around.
Real egg from start as it’s never tested.. Red bandana is then stuffed between the egg and hand., and pulled out slightly and presented as if it’s sticking out the egg..
Ive seen this guy in personand i can say that hes very good at what he does. Never in my life have i seen that kinda talent in person which made it that much more real
Pretty sure he put a hole in a real egg and poured the egg white out pre show. When he cracked the egg in the glass, he's trying to cover it with his hand so you don't notice how very little egg white was there.
Ah, come on. I'm not a world famous magician and this was nothing more than a basic slight of hand to switch the eggs at the end! No fucking WAY they were even remotely impressed by that!
you are holding the egg with your middle finger since your index is behind the egg holding the cloth, then when grabbing with the other hands thumb you can see the index finger come into view. I am really surprised this simple trick fooled them but good on ya
Yeah, I had the "no way!" reaction. Very good presentation. At the beginning, when you "ruined" the trick, I was like "alright... sure... where is this going, then?". And it was a real egg. Nothing gave it away. Excellent routine.
Caleb's narrative actually explains how (some) magic works. With the misdirection. Especially in a duo, like Penn and Teller themselves. But he doesn't give it all away. It's genius
Welcome to a wonderfully select group...Fooler! I streamed CW this morning and the second the egg cracked I yelled... Caleb's got them! Congratulations! Beautiful effect!
That was great! Dunno if this is right, but this is how I would do it... Get 2 eggs, Cut hole in one, and pour out egg, make hole big enough to fold a scarf. Put egg back in the shell, then use the shell from the second egg, (and some glue) to create a watertight barrier, keeping the liquid egg in the bottom half, and the top half clean and dry, and spacious enough for the bandana. Penn did ask if both the egg and shell in the glass was real, so it had to all be constructed out of egg shells... meaning wow... one wrong move, pushing the bandana in too hard (maybe why he did it quite slowly) and the whole thing would come apart in his hands literally.
I think he always has the real egg inside of the hand and he is just pretending to stuff the bandana inside it. I think the bandana can be folded very thin or can glue to itself and to the egg or something similiar. Look closely, I think at 3:36 the bandana is not inside the egg but on it.
That... sounds impossible. Making a watertight barrier inside an already cracked egg, and make it tough enough to not crack when hit against the glass first time? At that point he's doing actual real magic. 😆
It's amazing that you Fooled Penn and Teller Caleb! Me and my sister were screaming in the car when I was able to find a way to watch your act. Big congratulations, that was so cool!!
My guess: Pulled the real egg and the kerchief together at the start. There never was a "fake" egg. It was all just clever and skillful manipulation of the kerchief to make it look like he was stuffing it into the egg. In reality, he was stuffing it into his hand.
Sometimes the simplest tricks are the most enjoyable. I watched it twice because I thought I missed the switch. Then I realized there wasn't one. I'm not a magician myself so I don't have a vast knowledge of how tricks are done. But I do enjoy trying to figure how they're done or how they might be done. I can't figure this one out myself, but if I had to guess I'd say this trick piggy backed off other tricks done before. I don't know. I'll just stuff it in my backpack and forget about it and just enjoy being entertained by a fun and entertaining trick. Congratulations on fooling P&T!
My theory: Egg was always real. He is simply holding the bandana in place with his thumb to give the illusion of it poking out. But what I can't figure out... WHERE'D THE BANDANA GO DURING THE FIRST PART OF THE TRICK

That is my thinking too. It was always a real egg and the red scarf did go into it. it is amazing how little space those things take up. I thought Caleb might have made an effort to make it 'look' like he made a switch to fool them but he didn't need to.
Aye aye captain
@@RevMonkey
The hank was never in the egg.
Watch his fingers when he pulls it from the "inside" of the egg for the last time.
Watch his ring finger feed the cloth.
It was his only slip up as far as I could tell.
I was rooting for you! You did your grandma proud. Congratulations!
Great Job Caleb! Glad Curry inspired you ;) Hope we one day end up in a gala together, sounds like fun. Congratulations on Fooling them!
I just finished watching your amazing chicken!! Well done my friend!!!
Love this dudes energy. What he said at the start was wholesome af.
"Beady little eyes"... I caught that 😄
I can't believe the magician on Penn & Teller's show managed to fool them with just an egg! I watched it over and over and couldn't spot any switches or sleight of hand either. It's amazing how skilled some magicians are at creating illusions and misdirection. I guess that's why Penn & Teller are always looking for new and innovative acts to showcase on their show. Can't wait to see what they come up with next!
Well, if there were no switches, then he was holding a real egg all the time, c'mon.
@@Mafon2Maybe I’m trippin, at 5:08 do you not see 2 shells he breaks? He throws nearly a full one on the floor and there’s still shell in the glass to! Maybe I’m tripping?
@@mylescoton2929 hard to tell, I see half and half.
nice work caleb! I love seeing other magicians scramble the brains of Penn and teller and then watching them get boiling mad when you fool them... And we all know it's never over-easy to fool Penn and teller😁
Yeah, only a thimble in the back of the egg was needed.
Wow! Really terrific, Caleb, and fun to watch! Congratulations on fooling Penn & Teller!
He was yust pretending to stuffing the egg,how would that fool enybody,it was so basic that pen and teller felt to ashamed to say how basic it is.
@@Last.Dark.Emperor it was definitely more complicated than that. Go rewatch and tell me again he didn't stuff the scarf in the egg.
@@drummerrjrj It was illusion that he was stuffing it in,u cant see it goes in actually.
OH my gosh! You DID IT!!! I'm so happy and proud of your hard work!! Congratulations my friend!!
Thank you Gloria!
Absolutely love that routine!! Killed it Caleb:)
What an awesome why to let him know that they were fooled. Everything was clean, and he did a great job. Penn & Teller are awesome in their own rights and quit knowledgeable. What a wonderful way to start the discussion on his magic trick.
Wow!!! Congratulations! 🎉🎉 As someone who knows how silk to egg is usually done this really fried me! 🐣
Fried, not scrambled???
Caleb, so delighted I found your clip. You brought such charm and joy to the trick, it was palpable. Not to mention I have no idea how you did your trick. Then again, neither did Penn & Teller.
He hid the handkerchief behind the real egg 😂
The trick was just brilliant and i did not see it coming
That was - well, MAGIC!. Not only was your trick great but your presentation and back- story really sold it and you. Congratulations!
8:35 AMOGUS
It's probably more correct to say he fooled them into believing there was a switch when there wasn't. I any case, it was a brilliant trick
It's great to see a fellow North Carolinian on here! Thanks for reprsenting us and congrats!
That was a long way to go for that one. I can't believe it fooled them.
He’s good, he’s very good. But 4min 59s. I see that switch 👀 😂
Congratulations Caleb. God has blessed you with amazing talent!
"God has blessed you with magic."
LOL
He takes a real egg and cuts a hole in the top/side very carefully. He either keeps the membrane in the egg intact so it doesn't leak OR he drains out some of the egg and puts a temporary barrier inside the egg to seperate the guts from the handkerchief. He cracks the egg open at the end and destroys any evidence of alteration to the egg.
That's the only thing I could think of, also. Real egg, fake hole.
I think there may have never been a plastic egg. He hid the bandana behind hit and made it appear to be inside it by holding with his thumb
Caleb seems like a genuinely nice person. Cool trick too.
Can we just appreciate how Fool Us allows the performers to post their portion of the show on their channel?
You spoke way too much dude
Womp womp
I love the respect that Penn has for magicians that are able to fool them.
That was a strange interaction between Alice And Caleb at the end.
Such a small looking trick and a great story
fooled them. That's awesome!
Congrats!! We enjoyed watching 😄 that was an amazing performance!
0:19 that is literally what happened to me when i got a magic set for Christmas as a kid 😂
Dude this is just Awesome, Not only did you get on the show(Big Deal in itself) but you Fooled the Two most iconic figures in Magic on Prime TV(BIG TIME). Steller work my friend. Just Amazing!! Congrats
The egg obviously had the yolk in it, but there was probably something in the egg to keep the handkerchief separate from the yolk.
You haven't really been to Vegas unless you get heckled by Penn while Teller nods with a smile. Well done!
Short and sweet and excellent! Nice job, Caleb!
This one time as band camp, this man performed a magic trick with a egg!
Really well played. I was expecting a switch then realised you just got me.
Representing us from NC. I love this trick. Fits right in with the southern lifestyle too!
The future is bright! Good luck and great job!!!
Wonderful! I thoroughly enjoyed this routine. Congratulations on your FU appearance and trophy!
I’ve watched this 5 times. Fantastic routine. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great work Caleb! Enjoyed your magic & meeting you at Black Finn. Made our night. Saving your card. Hope to see your magic again soon.
Yeah, I had the "no way!" reaction. Very good presentation. At the beginning, when you "ruined" the trick, I was like "alright... sure... where is this going, then?". And it was a real egg. Nothing gave it away. Excellent routine.
Outstanding job!!! I can't see how you did it. And neither could Penn & Teller!!!!!!!!
Ive always liked the fact that Penn and Teller let the magician upload the video.
Congratulations. That was so clean and entertaining.
It's amazing that you Fooled Penn and Teller Caleb! Me and my sister were screaming in the car when I was able to find a way to watch your act. Big congratulations, that was so cool!!
Great job (from one Caleb to another)
Fooled me too!
My guess:
Pulled the real egg and the kerchief together at the start.
Congratulations on fooling Penn and Teller! That was very well done! What a fooler!!!! ❤
A simple trick that Penn and Teller can't explain. WOW.
My theory:
Egg was always real. He is simply holding the bandana in place with his thumb to give the illusion of it poking out. But what I can't figure out...
WHERE'D THE BANDANA GO DURING THE FIRST PART OF THE TRICK
