I ran mine until the fans cycled 4 times. And it didn’t really burp at all. I had the heat on high full blast. Now after driving it and letting it cool down the coolant isn’t to the top of the rad cap, but I only have to add less than a shot glass of coolant and it’s at the top. Should I be worried or just run it?
Hi Harvey I have the same Honda hrv ex 2016 does the coolant fan comes on all the time in the winter. When I turned on the AC the fan trun on is that normal?
Hello Harvey, I’m watching your video and I was wandering why you did not use the coolant container or compartment I’m referring to that receptacle bearing a white cover on the right side portion where usually coolant liquid is being poured in but on the other side. Just curious thank you
There’s a lot to this answer so bear with me. First, I was only doing a partial replacement. If I had been performing a full coolant change I would have emptied the overflow tank as well(the white bottle you referred to). Remember, I’m just a diy guy so please research and confirm what I am saying. Second, as the engine heats up, the liquid expands and has to have a place to go. It with partially fill that tank. As it cools and retracts, it will suck the coolant back out of the tank without sucking air in. I filled it through the radiator cap because that is really the easiest way to fill it and get the air out of the system. Once you do that, you can fill the overflow tank as needed. It will have a “hot” and “cold” line on it. I personally would fill it to the cold line when the engine is cold. Hope that helps.
Nice video, Harv. Did you idle the engine until the cooling fans came on, or did you just stop once it's stopped bubbling, then drove? I signed the papers to buy the car before I realized this car doesn't have a coolant temp gauge, which is so cheap of Honda, so I feel having a coolant temp gauge would give positive reinforcement the coolant is bled properly. Thx!
There's multiple software issues with the CVT, one of which can cause your CVT belt to fail without warning. Get to the dealership for the free fix asap.
You should at least show what kind of antifreeze coolant brand you use…Honda dealership price is too expensive but what kind of aftermarket coolant you use😅😅😅thanks anyway
The fact that he is doing this every year which is way overkill (at least from what Honda recommends) it's not an issue that he doesn't do a full flush. Now the fact that he is mixing two coolants (Amsoil and Honda brand) could be an issue that I would not do.
Why would not drain the engine block? You have left about half of the existing coolant in the car. It is bad practise to mix different makes or types of coolant The block drain is a threaded plug on the front of the engine block, to the right side of the exhaust manifold ..
I don’t drain the block because it is an annual service I do. I replace roughly half the coolant each year. Mixing a high quality coolant with the stock coolant is a chance I’m willing to take. I don’t believe (I’m not a real mechanic I’m a DIYer) mixing them for that short of a period will do my car harm but I do respect your decision to stick to the same fluid. Thx for your valid input!
Showed a friend this video as an example how easy it can be to maintain a Honda. Thanks for making these. The generation 3 CRV factory service manual said this was the correct maintenance process. I do it annually starting at year 5. The Honda Type 2 compatible coolants have a 150,000 mile life. And now you can buy them in generic or a big brand almost anywhere from 12 bucks a gallon ready mixed. This will keep it in more than adequate condition without making a mess. I like to leave the cap on the radiator while draining because it will drain the overflow reservoir as well. It is slow, but I use that time to meditate or take in a couple cold beverages. As far as anyone not supervising me knows, it is hard work.
as a mechanic servicing only Toyota’s & Honda’s I would not recommend putting in any coolant in that vehicle besides HONDA type 2 coolant that’s made for that vehicle or ZEREX 50/50 HONDA / ACURA blue coolant but it’s ur car 🤷♂️ ull see what AMsoil does to ur heater core in few years
As a certified Honda Technician with 27ish years although I recommend genuine Honda fluids, I have found that Amsoil has one of the best lines of fluids/lubricants out there. While Honda knows their vehicles, Amsoil knows their fluids. That’s not to say Honda genuine fluids are bad, Amsoil spends millions on research and development on fluids alone. With my years of experience working on Honda’s alone I put Amsoil in my cars.
Ive been a mechanic for Honda for 22 years and I’ve been using generic diluted coolant from O’Riellys for all them 22 years. Works fine for me. I say use tap water, it has the best cooling attributes by far.
@@iitzpepsii depends on how hard and chlorinated your water is. In a few places like the Northwest and Rockies, you can easily get away with tap water. 250k miles on my old jeep, used nothing but the garden hose and cheap universal concentrate. Had one heater core freeze at -40F. Never any other issues. But I'm 100% on board with only using the pOAT coolants for Honda. Cheap insurance.
You should use blue Honda radiators fluid
Your videos are great. Always enjoy doing my own maintenance!
Can you show also how to change the power window switch..
Mine works like a champ! Sorry. That’s why the videos have slowed down. The thing won’t break!
Good info. Just found your channel and since we have our own Harvey, we subscribed. Keep up the great work with the easy know- how DIY's.
Thx! Coming up on 100k soon so there will be more videos coming. Horrible car for a repair channel though. Lol
I hope the status on your car and family is healthy and well three years later!
Thank you for this video, and i get it all, maybe next year i'll do this. Greeting from Indonesia
Greetings!
Great video, thanks man. Im doing mine either tomorrow or next week. Appreciate your effort, kind sir.
do need to remove the engine block? bolts? where is located and what is the torque spec tolls use does is come with whaser
Wrong coolant color. Blue is the only one you should be using on any Honda
Thank you Harvey, it’s crystal clear explanation .
Hi Harvey, would I be able to do the same thing to my 2021 HRV?

tell me the name for bouton and back the plastic on amazon i dont found
How often to change the coolant ? Thanks to share it.
I personally do this every year. I feel it keeps the additives in the coolant fresh.
Where is the plastic engine cover under your car?
Will 2 gallons be enough antifreeze, I need to flush everything out ?
Does Amsoil coolant work better than Honda ?
Nope. All the same just use the right color and change at 30k miles or 3 years
Hello Harvey, thank you for sharing this content. What book or manual are you using? Any recommendation? Link perhaps? Thank you!

What was the issue with cvt shutter? My 2018 is doing the same thing.

Cool thanks brother!
You’re very welcome.
Unfortunately, this method neglects to flush the dirty coolant out of the engine, so ii's incomplete. Coolant overflow tank needs to be drained, too.
