Hi bud. I have everything to clean a my panels ready for paint but have no idea what order to use them in.
    Should i clean like this?
    1) sugar soap nice and soapy to get most of the sanding residue/dust off
    2) Then dry with a towel
    3) Then a tack cloth
    3) then 70% iso alcohol on some stockinette/polishing cloth to wipe down (tack cloths I have seem very sticky, so I guess I have to wipe down with some kind of solvent cleaner after?)
Would brake cleaner be better on the stockingette?
This might sound stupid/ocd to some but I painted once before and remember those tiny tiny bits of dust just ruining the job.
I always seem to just I introduce more dust when using a sponge and bucket

      Hey, great question.
      1. You don't have to sugar soap. Any soapy water will work fine.
      2. Dry it with a cotton cloth, not a towel.
      3. Use a wax and grease remover. Let it dry.
      4. Tack cloth last using air at the same time to blow off any remaining dust.
      5. When you paint, make sure that you are not under a roof like in a garage that is full of dust and crap. It will fall as soon as you start spraying and disturb the air. Blow the roof down with air before you start or even hang a sheet above your painting bench.
      Good luck

Another ripper Kel, thanks so much. Quick question: Although I understand that the polyester filler is a two-part product (resin/body & hardener/catalyst) and that the blade putty is single part air-dry product, I am not sure why I should use blade putty rather than mixing up some more polyester filler. It seems to me that the polyester is harder, faster, better, or is it not? What's the advantage of using blade putty?

    • @howtowithkel3352
      @howtowithkel3352  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey mate, the reason that we use blade putty is that it fills pins holes in the poly filler. With poly filler you almost always get some small pin holes after you rub down. blade putty dries super fast, usually in 10 mins you can rub it down. It is also soft and easy to sand. In the time it takes to mix a little more poly the blade putty will already have dried.
      Hope this helps..

Kel I am very impressed with your videos they short sweet and simple, I'm going to paint a vfr 400 nc30 once I prime should i wet and dry, then clean with de greaser, then paint the actual colour wet and dry clean then clear coat, if you could make a step by step guide on painting a farining that would be amazing, just a bit more In depth

Jake, I will make a video on this.
For now I will tell you this. If you have a good quality gun and a booth, you can spray from primer to clear without sanding or cleaning. The biggest problem with spraying is rubbish in the air that lands on the job. As a rule, check the surface for dust or bugs. If it is clean and within and hour or so of painting, go ahead and put on your next layer. If it is left overnight or there is dirt in the paint. Rub down with 600 grit wet and dry, clean and spray your next layer. Repeat, Repeat.
