Worth knowing as well... 11th gen intel chips are only rated for RAM speeds up to 3200MHz... anything over that can and most likely will cause instability issues, especially when gaming... even if your RAM is Rated for higher speeds, it does not matter. Do however enable XMP to get to the max supported speed of 3200MHz with a Intel chip! EDIT: When I first enabled XMP it automatically switched my RAM speed to the rated RAM speed of 3600MHz even though my I7-11700K chip is only rated for speed up to 3200MHz. So I had to manually switch it from 3600MHz to 3200MHz. I tried running it at 3600MHz and it worked but I eventually ran into crashing issues while gaming. When I dropped it back down to 3200MHz I was good to go.

Make sure to set VCCIO and system agent to 1.2V when you turn on XMP especially for 3600mhz and higher. Because the motherboards will push these voltages to 1.45v which is very unsafe and can shorten your CPU lifespan. Idk no one is talking about this when they turn on XMP
I used to manually OC my RAM and CPU to get that tiny bit extra power but it comes at the cost of stability and needing ever more increasing amounts of voltage. I got to the point where I was running my RAM at 1.4v 247 and my CPU curve was negative 10 just for an extra 200mhz. Decided to just delete all that, leave the CPU OC on auto and enable XMP and now my system is 100 percent stable at all times, 20c cooler and so reliable it will never hang or stutter or crash. Great video, thank you! If I enabled the XMP, the CPU shouldn't change its speed, right? I'm asking this because I thought that by enabling that feature, it could trigger the CPU to run at full speed all the time, and I'd like it to run slower when I'm not doing anything. I'm planning on buying this 10850k+3600RAM+Z490-E Gaming if that helps. Thank you!!
No, enabling XMP does not overclock the CPU's operating frequency. Since enabling XMP does 'overclock' your RAM it will also be overclocking the memory controller which is built into your CPU. So in that regard I guess you could technically say it does kind of overclock your CPU but in the sense of it increases your CPU's core frequency (which is what most people think of when they talk about overclocking their CPU); No, it does not do that.

Thanks for making this video! It's been a long while since I last had a custom workstation/PC. Thanks to my new job, my company provided a budget to get a rather nice build. Over the last few days, I've been researching how to maximize the value/potential of what I've paid for, to get the most out of what my company has paid (for me). Why, when I was a kid, we had to overclock manually, sometimes we had to tape a clock to the ram just to see a slight improvement! Jokes aside, Thanks for the info! I didn't know they've made it so easy now!

Hey Mark, good job with this video. It really helped me understand RAM better. I'm hoping to pair 3800Mhz CL 14 with the 5950x. Though I'm worried that default voltage being to high (1.45v) will be a problem...should I be concerned and maybe start considering lower voltage? Thanks again!

Thanks man. This was super helpful.
Always had confusion about this, but not any more. Thank you Sir, a great topic selected.
Omg I've been scared to over clock my ram, thank you so much!!! You now have a life long fan and subscriber, and if you have merch please let me know!!!! Thank you!!!!
Quick question, when we enable the XMP profile for our RAM (I will have a 2x 32GB Viper Steel Series RGB 3600MHz ram [Total: 64GB]), will it have an effect on the ram's lifespan?

Amazing video directly explaining what is XMP and how to use it. I found it extremely useful!
Well. EMP sounds ominous when it comes to electronics.
Since EMP (ElectroMagnetic Pulse) straight up slaughters electronics.
so true lol 🤣
Watch more Linus then 💯💯💯💯💯💯😂😂😂😂😂👻👻👻👻😉🙏
Man, just found you randomly but learned so much. THANK YOU! liked and subscribed, Good health!
thankyou! I built my pc a year ago and had 3000mhz ram running at 2133mhz this whole time, lol.
men, you are doing the job of motherboards manufacturers
Great vid, keep it up!
Why, when I was a kid, we had to overclock manually, sometimes we had to tape a clock to the ram just to see a slight improvement! Jokes aside, Thanks for the info! I didn't know they've made it so easy now!
Also, "EMP" kinda has a negative connotation in the electronics industry.
Where's the 'EMP' mentioned in the video?
@@eknaap8800 Whoosh!
That's why they called it "XMP" rather than "EMP" even though "extreme" starts with an 'E.'
thanks for the advice i will now get a Ryzen 7 thank you and i hope you have a good new year and all your viewers all the best and thanks again
the alternative would be to call it EMP and that is the greatest enemy of electronic devices
Thanks dude. Was so confused why I wasn't getting 3600mhz. Cheers!
Can't they just turn it on by default? Ffs! Thanks for explaining!
Faster speed may cause internal overheating.
@@titorivera9596 maybe. However, since reading this, it seems gamers always turn this on, and usually have a decent airflow system. I can see why it might not matter in an office environment say

Thanks bro i just finished my pc and i learned some more things with letting my ram go full potential
Glad I could help. 🙂
May the god of rams bless you with this wonderful knowledge ;)
had my 32gb 3600mhz ram running at 2333mhz with a ryzen 9 3950x….. man i’m glad i finally got around to doing this, cpu will thank me.
1:21 LMAOO so true! 🤣🤣
Hi sir, and thank you for the well detailed and informative video! I'm about to build a PC in which I want to pair up the Asus PRIME Z790-A WIFI and the i7-13700K. Please tell me, do you believe that the Asus PRIME Z790-A WIFI motherboard is a good choice? Will it be reliable in the long term? I only had Gigabyte motherboards till now and I'm new to ASUS components. What is your opinion? Thank you!
