Is the Ridgeline Defense RD15 one of the best, or just another overpriced AR15?

- My initial review of the RD-15 LPR from Ridgeline Defense. Does the rifle justify its premium price tag, or is it just another expensive AR-15? Let's find out.
Over the next 1000 rounds or so il be diving into features, reliability, durability and accuracy of this rifle. 2 more parts to come.

thank you!!
"I put an Arken on a $3200 AR."
Yup, an arken in a mount more expensive than the optic.
Ive been testing throw away panzer scopes with ED glass 1-10x ffp. For a Antimatter scope switch setup...And i did run across a discoveropt 3-15x ffp that has Japanese ED glass. Its been an awesome fit on my 308 Armalite. It worked so well i ordered a 1-8x FFP that im waiting to review next. Great video. Thanks for the info!
Good to hear. Always cool that there's new optic manufacturers popping up. If I'm looking for or asked about cheaper priced stuff I'm sending most people by way of Arken, but do what fits your budget and use! It does look like discovery has a lifetime warranty, just would like to see what their track record is like.
@TheMikeshannon I've never had to send anything back to discoveropt. I can vouch for Momstrum tho, they waranty a open box scope for me. I had the new scope before I could even send the old one back.
The Panzer is my go to now at around 150, or 127 on sale (amazing price) and the discoveropt optics are a little over 200 each.
Moondog industry did a video comparing the Panzer to a 2200$ vortex scope...with mind blowing results IMO.
@TheMikeshannon is Arken selling ED glass optics fir a good price?
@@mobilegamersuniteyup like 450 after discount codes on the EP5. And even the budget stuff like the SH4 has awesome glass at sub 300 bucks
Appreciate the information
Any time!
The information is great. Reality is that the more furniture on the rifle, the more $$$$$$$$$.
@pershingrifles4735 it definitely adds up, but that's why I like finding products that pack alot of value like the Arken scopes. This scope lives right at home on high quality rifles
SOLGW doesn’t cerakote their receivers. Their receivers and rails are OEM’d by Mega Arms (aka Zev), who also make receivers and rails for Hodge, PWS, Noveske, Triarc, GGP, and a number of other higher end AR “manufacturers”. The way they get their receivers to fit so great isn’t cerakote.. The receivers are Class 2 Type 3 Hard Coat Anodized and then given a Nickel Acetate seal, which prevents the anodizing from fading giving them their trademark “true black” color. The way they get the uppers and lowers to fit so tightly together is by machining to extremely tight tolerances and by slightly oversizing their lugs on their uppers, which results in an extremely tight fit between the upper and lower.
Yep I'm aware, what I said was if you've run SOL or cerakoted receiver sets before. Aero and plenty of other cerakoted stuff has a tight fit due to stacking a layer of paint between the receiver
imagine if every company had this quality control and care for their products….
Anderson and BCA might actually make a decent rifle 😂
@@TheMikeshannon lol idk what bca even is 😂 i have LmT, bcm and daniel defense. few frankenstein builds. love my LMTs but their qc isnt that great. wish i could make my own rifles from scratch. a good forged ambi 14.5 with a sturdy mlok rail and a great barrel. maybe ill work on it
@@rickypickles2219bear creek arsenal. But LMT is some of the better QC in the industry so curious what issues you've had
@@TheMikeshannon inconsistency to be honest. mostly things that dont affect function but still, for the price…should be perfect. out of all ive had, bcm, DD, radian, and ADM have the best
@@rickypickles2219inconsistency in that?
I think the upper is justified in price at 1800 on their website. But that means the lower is 1400? Or maybe the lower should be like 800 and then the QA of the rifle costs 600? Nonetheless thanks for the detailed overview, I have subbed!
I'm definitely with you on that. Now that they have the uppers for sale separately I would highly recommend just getting the upper. I think the price is more than fair for what you get there, but what's now $1400 for just the lower isn't worth it for a non-ambi lower. I still support the guys at ridgeline and the rifle was one I had to jump on before I couldn't get one anymore for CT so I'm not disappointed in my purchase. This thing definitely isn't going anywhere for a long time!
Any issues with the handguard retention screws walking off?
Nothing I've noticed so far, I didn't witness mark them yet but also haven't taken mine out like some people have for cerakote and such
@@TheMikeshannon definitely witness them, I found one in the bed of my truck coming back from the range
@lukewarm_fuzz thanks for making me paranoid... checked mine to make sure nothing was loose and marked them. Thanks for the heads up
Your hand loads should be better then any factory rounds. What's your most accurate ar15 you have?
Haven't had time to work up a load yet as mentioned. This was the first 3 loadings I've done and alot of people find CFE223 needs to be loaded hot to perform. Still working the load up towards max charge and would prefer not to blow my gun up
As for most accurate AR15 it's between this and my SPR/MK12 build, but haven't been able to do the brute numbers ammo testing on my mk12 like I have this.
@@TheMikeshannonohh I see you will definitely find a load that works. Maybe copy the best factory round then work it from there good luck 🤙🏽
How much does the rifle weigh from the factory? Also what is the weight after putting on scope and bipod and new stock?
@uzbekistanimale website says 11lb, mine is just over 14lb with no mag. Arken scope, Flow6k, Atlas bipod and an LMT precision stock
@@TheMikeshannon Thank you for the information
@@TheMikeshannon Also this is with a 16" barrel?
@@uzbekistanimale yup 16" 223 wylde
I'd like to see the rifle straight from the factory,
I have a short of it out of the box, and an unboxing video if you hit my channel. If that's not what you're looking for let me know as I have a ton of pictures and videos of it before it was shot
Great information but please stop saying umm it’s distracting
@@maxwellsvader2573 caught it after filming unfortunately but working on it!
@@TheMikeshannon it takes practice bud I know
@@maxwellsvader2573appreciate the constructive criticism 100%
dude…really? lol
@rickypickles2219 no worries, I'll take what I can for better content for people
3200 dollars? lol bye.
Gotta pay to play, it's in the right ball park for what you're getting.
@@TheMikeshannon Sure, paying for value which is certainly subjective is one thing, bending over is another.
You paid too much, I built AR’s that shoot better groups with different ammo. I’m not trying to disrespect what you’ve done but the groups really aren’t that good. You shouldn’t have to say this ammo does good but this ammo doesn’t do as well blah, blah, blah. You definitely paid too much.
@brentkramer7358 every rifle is going to have ammo it prefers. This one prefers heavier ammo while my mk12 will outshoot it with 55gr. But I'm not shooting 55gr for group size so it's irrelevant. As someone who footed the entire bill I don't think I paid too much. And to clarify that I work at a shop and have dealer pricing on just about any big name rifles and parts on the market so I've absolutely built cheaper rifles that perform almost as well as this. I have 3 factory loadings ive tried that are averaging sub moa for 5 shot groups with this rifle, and I have 7 more factory loadings that are averaging under 1.25 MOA. I can't say that about that many other guns I own, especially guns that don't have all the features of this
@@TheMikeshannon so you paid for features? Please don’t think I’m trolling you by any means. But those high priced AR’s don’t mean anything if SHTF happens. I look at practicality and accuracy. I built 3 Aero upper and lowers with Criterion barrels and didn’t spend half of what you spent. I personally don’t see the need to waste the money on just the name. I admittedly own a Danial Defense V7 which I got at a good price brand new. I’ve grown to see that name brands with certain options (hand guard and barrel) is what makes it great. Again please don’t think I’m downing you, it’s just my opinion on what makes a gun great. I did enjoy your video or I wouldn’t have commented. Good Luck with your channel, stay safe out there!
@brentkramer7358 absolutely paid for features and I'm all for supporting the ridgeline guys after taking a class with them. This gun is definitely accurate and it has accuracy benefits that I didn't get into with this video like heat dispersion and reduced barrel flex. If SHTF this isn't the rifle I'm grabbing as it's a heavy competition rifle. I have no doubt it would be reliable and accurate if need be but they're about 11lb empty
@@TheMikeshannon gotcha, I knew it was a Proof research barrel so that’s probably the cost of the gun. I have no experience with that barrel to even give an opinion. But yeah if the barrel accuracy is good as its reviews then I guess it’s worth it to you. One of the reasons I go after Criterion and Krieger barrels is for accuracy and reliability.
@brentkramer7358 you really can't go wrong with either of those. We've had awesome luck with rosco barrels so far and they make our SOUR barrels as well. If I build another personal upper anytime soon it'll more than likely be criterion, centurion or rosco.
Put a black grip on the beautiful rifle
The last extra B5 I had laying around, when I decide on what I'm doing for paint it'll get a matching one
