  • The 'Statesboro'. A guitar by Vintage, designed by Paul Brett. Customofthesea's insignificant man reviews another great value for money musical instrument. An acoustic axe that's a cut above its competitors at this price point (along with much higher price points).

    Great review and agree with you. I bought this guitar about four weeks ago and love it; especially for finger picking. It’s got a warm tone to it. 😀

      Yeah, I can’t put it down. I had played my mate’s one so I knew it was decent. But I didn’t expect to love it so much, considering how much time I’ve spent playing more expensive acoustic guitars. X

    If you need a great study guitar you are guaranteed to pick up each time you gonna play, don't look no further. Great playability and sound.

    I bought one of these mail order in March '20. The saddle provided was not thick enough for the slot it was housed in, and, despite being bodged (in the factory,) with a shim to fill the gap, was tipping quite extremely toward the neck. I had to buy another thicker saddle that fitted more snugly in the slot. Also restrung with a standard set of strings, which proved to be too much for the guitar, as it started bellying quite a lot around the bridge area. This was relieved a little by fitting a lighter string set (D'Addario Nickel Bronze 12-53) but there's still a slight belly so maybe should be lighter still (EDIT: fitted Picato super-light strings this week and the belly is almost non-existent now). So definitely needs some TLC/set-up before it's ready for full action. And avoid heavy strings.

    Cheap as chips .....lmao!
    Is it a lot smaller that the Tanglewood Crossroads??
    I really like the idea of a smaller parlour.
    I guess you tune it the same as a regular guitar?

    No difference from the Tanglewood Crossroads, wonder if they are owned by Tanglewood 🤔

    • @customofthesea2
      @customofthesea2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, very very similar. Slightly shorter scale length on the Tanglewood. 630 mm, making it more like a true parlour. Probably are owned by the same company !

      Just had a Nightmare returning a Tanglewood! 😮🙄🙃
      I was looking at the Paul Brett Travel last night Viator, think that’s how you spell it.
      Lovely guitar made by Vintage.
      You should check them out, gorgeous guitars.
      I have not heard of Paul Brett before, seems like a great guy .....sent me a message today about the tuning.
      The Tanglewood had issues for me, and faulty but it was just a bit to big and I wish these manufacturers would put Armrests on all guitars ...they dig into your arm.
      I’m looking for a travel size now with regular tuning of a guitar.
      Those Little Martin are nice but over double the price of a Tanglewood.
      Obviously ya can’t get into any stores to try them out at the moment, I’ve spoken to a few stores and none of them seem to know when they will be allowed to reopen.
      They are guessing with April apparently.

      @@YanksandBritsProductions I was and still am tempted to get the Viator. I think It is more like a true parlour. However, that does mean it has a specific tone which is ‘boxy’ . Although this is delightful to me, it does reduce the versatility of the guitar and that’s why I went for this model to suit my current needs. Also it’s dirt cheap and unbelievably good for the price. A true parlour is still on my list though. The list is long!

      Is the Viator more of a fingerpicking guitar than for strumming .....or does it even matter if your strumming or fingerpicking .....you can just do whatever you want on it?
      I get get the idea that Nylon strings guitars are more for fingerpicking, and with Steel strings you can do either.

    • @customofthesea2
      @customofthesea2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@YanksandBritsProductions The Viator would be good for picking or strumming. But it does have the sound of a small guitar which is quite distinct. Because it has a smaller body. Probably sounds at its best when it is picked, but that is just my opinion. Nylon strings definitely sound better for picking. Know the flamenco players strong then and sound awesome! The statesboro Is really for blues and folk. I should have played some blues in my demos. Not quite sure why I didn’t. It must’ve slipped my mind. I primarily play blues on it now.
