    As a radio repair technician of about 22 years, this video initially made me cringe but turned out well. Ribbon cables can easily get torn or the ends rendered useless if inserted off-center. For anyone trying to order one of these digitizers, the LCD screen is either LQ070T5GA01 or LQ070T5GC01, and using any of these in a search will direct you to what you need. Aliexpress is about half price of Amazon if you're not in a hurry for the part. You're welcome y'all.

      I’m going try and attack this project starting with ordering and replacing the digitizer. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

    I have the same head unit on my 2011 4Runner Limited. It started showing the same issue over time. Today I got a parts via Amazon. The whole repair process was mostly straight forward. However, I had struggled with putting back spring coil at last. Instead of trying to push both of the coil in, I have put them on and screw in while bottom end of the coils still out of right position. Then, I have pushed the bottom end in sideways. That made the task pretty easy. Otherwise, everything worked out very well. Thank you.
    Oh, the screws to fix the spring coil had Lactite. I have used blue Lactite for the screw so that they won't be loosen unintentionally.

    I would like to leave a big thank-you for your video. I couldn't have made the fix without it. The 1st digitizer I installed did not work and I was very disappointed. I decided to try a 2nd one because I couldn't see anything I had done wrong. The 2nd one works but with the lowest row of buttons I have to use my fingernail inserted as low as possible and then those buttons work. Some were having a similar issue and used a credit card. I am going to leave it for now because what I have is workable but I do wonder how long it will keep working. It seems these digitizers are not the best and break quite easily. I bought the $100 one on Amazon hoping it would be better and I am not sure it is. Thanks again. I very much appreciate you taking the take to make this video.

    Thanks for a very informative video. I ordered the glass from E bay for fifty five dollars. It took about 45 minutes to replace
    the unit and it works like brand new, saving me a lot of $$$$. Thanks again.

    Thank you for this How-To video!
    I have a 2010 4Runner Trail with JBL sound and Navigation.
    The 7" screen worked as a display but would not respond to touch so I lost most of the controls.
    It has been like this for about 5 years.
    Recently I found a local guy who said he could fix it for $800, haha.
    Better than $3000 for a whole new head unit but still too much.
    This caused me to do another search and I found your video.
    I bought the 7" digitizer on eBay for $50 and followed your video.
    My touch screen now works and I finally was able to set up my new phone to use Bluetooth!
    The only remaining problem is that the NAV DVD will not eject. NAV still works but no hope of upgrading the system.
    Thanks again!

    Your video helped me. Thanks. Had biggest issue with the springs at the end. Ended up tightening one side so I wasn’t chasing springs back and forth. Also have the rainbow effect on mine but the price was right.

    I agree! Took maybe 30 minutes! $75 is way better than $3000 for a new unit!

    i have a slightly different problem - the touchscreen feature works BUT there's a large circle of discoloration near the center of the screen and i can't see anything on the screen when i'm in reverse gear (reverse camera works but the image is sooo blurry). would this screen replacement fix my problem or is there a separate fix for a faulty LCD (digitizer is OK)?

    Any chance you could show a video/photo of where the springs lock back in at?

    • @achill638
      @achill638  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I sold the 4Runner last year, so I can’t take another video, but the springs kinda float on top of pegs on either side of the arms that hold the unit.

    I try and destroy the ribbon cable… maybe this unit have that chance to pop up… but my cable thorn the filament now the all unit is useless…

    • @achill638
      @achill638  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gabo’s Car Center, you definitely shouldn’t be forceful with ribbon cables, they are thin and delicate. That’s why they are secured with locking mechanisms, never force them in or out of their housings.

      That’s awesome!! I’m so glad you were able to do it, replacing the whole head unit is just insane when it’s just a bad screen. Someone should start a shop or something.

    I'm looking to fix this for a 2012 4Runner Limited and this looks great, but I'm getting confused what digitizer to order. My 4Runner has a 6.1" JBL screen but this video says it's a 7" screen (although I thought 2011 and 2012 had identical screens), do you know if this is truly a 7" screen? Below my screen I do see E2078 so I think they're identical, but I'm getting confused and overwhelmed looking at all the options for digitizers.

    • @achill638
      @achill638  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look up part number LQ070T5GA01 that is what I installed. As far as I’m aware, the upgraded JBL system in the 2010-2013 4Runners are all the same.

    has anyone tried this and the hard fixed buttons on the side of the stereo does not work any more? that's my current issue. I'm quiet bummed. touch screen is working again but lost all side buttons on both sides.

    • @achill638
      @achill638  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh dang, I hate that! The only thing I can think is maybe you inadvertently disconnected something while taking out the main ribbon for the display? There’s a lot of stuff in that little slot.

    • @LTFT83
      @LTFT83 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@achill638 yeh no luck. I disassembled and reassembled 3 times. even went back to the old original screen to see if I can get buttons to work with no success. now side buttons dont work. I duno if loosing side buttons are worse or touch screen. 🤦🏻‍♂️
