    As a Paralympic coach in wheelchair racing I have found the medicine ball to be very helpful in developing power, endurance and most importantly, for facilitating neuromuscular coordination and developing explosive power in the pushing stroke. When working with those with a lower limb disability a concern is to not overload the upper-extremity with unnecessary lean body mass. These individuals will have to live their whole life depending on the normal range of motion of their shoulder joint for all activities of daily living.. So instead of grinding away doing General Preparation work the medicine ball is used along with other mobility exercises to insure high performance without hurting the quality of life of those I coach. Excellent video and I look forward to hearing more about your training with triple jumpers.

      It's great to hear of your successful use of med balls with your coaching of wheelchair athletes. Much training of athletes across all events at the elite level is getting much more subtle and the idea of heavy lifting with Olympic lifts for jumoers, as an example, and GPP is eroding. The nuances of improving specific speed, specific elasticity and intra and inter muscular coordination, for example, are being applied and refined more and more. Yet, there will always be those who think more is better and who love the grind.And your point about life after athletics is a very valid one too. Thanks for passing by and commenting.

      My favourite piece of kit , medicine ball.
