I bought a 2012 Mazda 3 Ts2 9 months ago for just over 3k. Got to say I am impressed - for a cheap run around it is great. With Mazda's you just have to keep an eye out for rust however, but it should be fairly cheap to run and maitain.
theyre good i have one, but the one thing to look out for is if it has a ford - mazda transmission. if its 5 speed it probably is. this transmission was designed by ford and is notoriously terrible.

Where did you buy it for 3k? Its around 5500 to 6000 eurose in Serbia. And that's 2010-2011 :)
