Fiat Panda 100HP chasing a Civic Type R - Nürburgring nordschleife BTG - 18.08.2024

- Second time to the ring in my 100HP.
2100 km including 8 BTG laps, and not a beat missed 😍
(I did manage to break my coolant resevoir, but that was just me being a clown)
Not the best start to the lap, and I was quite unlucky with the traffic, especially at the fox hole. But by 4:40 on the laptimer, when the second Porsche race taxi overtakes me, it gets better though; a FN2 Civic Type R appeared in my mirrors, and I got on a mission to make it stay behind, which ofcourse didn't happen, but I chased after him, and managed to almost catch up again before the gantry - dude I almost had you! lol.
Out of the 8 laps I did, I got this one, yes this ONE lap without yellow flags. The amount of cars on the ring is getting ridiculous and there are queues to get on track from every direction. The cars are getting more and more powerful and a lot of people drive them over their capability, so naturally a lot of crashes happen. On top of that, the owners have decided to stop showing the amount of cars on track on the billboards by the parking lot, and they indicate the tracks as green (clear) even though there are multiple yellows ...
The car:
2007 Fiat Panda 100HP 1.4 16v with 253.000 km, but still going strong.
ESP system disabled with a sneaky switch - feel free to ask!
Tyres are 195/50r15 Kumho KH52's - semi budget strret tire, but better than the 7 year old eco tyres I drove last time!
Camera setup:
Main camera: LG V40 107* wide angle lens on homemade wooden mount on 3 chassis points.
Rear camera: Nedis N-go (acam41bk) 140 degree lens
Foot camera: Sony AZ-1 Action cam 170* lens.
Speedo cam: Agfaphoto AC5000 - will be replaced.

I ♥ der ring!
I loved seeing the co-pilot so collaborative, he brakes and accelerates, fantastic! 😂😂😂
this comment deserves more likes, was thinking the same 😂
Thanks for the nice footage and preview of the ring with the 100hp. I just bought one yesterday.
Thanks right back at you. Congratulations on getting one, it's a gem. Enjoy!
Full sending this little Italian gem, love the panda 100HP❤
ooo that's my fn2. 😊 I remember you. mine is a series FN2 plus Scorpion exhaust. Kumho ps71 tire. I bought the car a week earlier, I had to feel it out. My tire was weak...the rest was ok. nice round 🙋🏁
That's really cool, thanks for commenting! ✌😎
And congrats - just a lovely car that one. I would love to own a Honda screamer one day.
Hope you get a pair of semi slicks under it next time. A nice round it was 🙂👍
The fast thing about a car is always the driver. And you've managed to get close to the 100% that you can get out of a car for a good lap time. Very well done!
Thank you very much , that means a lot 😊
I only owned this little toy for two months before I totalled it - amazing little gem of a car, worthy of an Abarth badge imho. A bit stiff, but heaps of fun on twisty B-roads. Cool driving mate - glad you're enjoying it properly!
Shame about your 100HP! A gem it is, and it could have been an Abarth, I guess, if they made it a year later, but compared to the 500 abarth it would have been a bit tame, and the 500 sport has the same engine as the 100HP and didn't get the Abarth badge of honor either, but the "HP" badge smeels of the good old Fiat/Autobianchi days, and I really like that.
Btw the suspension only feels a bit hard/"sporty" on the street do to the suspension being overdampened, and once you get on track, the springs are soft as a good mattress, and the lean in corners is both hilarious a dn a bit scary at once 😅
- And thanks, I´m enjoying it a lot 😊
Just bought one, I am gobsmacked at what you made it do, amazing driving, loved watching the video. Thx for showing what she s capable of! Keep safe.
Thank you very much 😊 And congratulations, I hope you'll enjoy yours as much as I have mine!
Just love it! Definitely faster than my 1.2 4X4...
Great video! I enjoyed every second of it! Keep it up, mate :)
Thanks a lot! Very glad you enjoyed it, mate.
Well...Not Bad Man!!!
VIVA THE PANDA!!!!..😉😉
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!
💚🤍❤️👏🏻👏🏻
Wow, great driving again! You nearly caught the Civic which has 200hp so was obviously quicker on the straights but also has an LSD and better aero on the car; i guess he was less determined than you because you were catching him on the twisty parts. Those newer tyres seem much better than the older ones and you got 9.34 compared to your best of 9.33 but there was more traffic so I guess you would be quicker with less traffic! I hope to join you one day in my Panda 100hp. Bilstein still sell the kit with their gas dampers and eibach springs and Goodyear still make the lower profile F1 tyres for the Panda 100hp which they said is the same compound now as their best GS exotic tyres. However to get better lap times needs more power so either a remap or better camshafts/reworked combustion chambers. Anyhow really happy to see you there again and suprising many more powerful cars.
Thank you very much! It's always good fun if you're lucky enough to find a car to chase, and it's a really good feeling when you can hang on to faster cars, or almost anyways 😎
And yes, the new tires are definitely better, and the gearing with the lower profile is about perfect now. I was a bit disappointed that I "only" got a 9:34, but it was my only lap without yellows, and as you said, there was more traffic. On my last lap I was 5 seconds faster than this lap to the 11km mark, but then hit yellows again. I was trying to beat the youtube TF record in a 100HP of 9:30 BTG (he was on AR-1 semi slicks though), but there were just too many cars around that weekend - oh well, can't win 'em all 🙂
Mods would be fun, but are not on cards for me, and I really enjoy the car as it is - and the bouncy castle suspension is hilarious. 😀. Thanks for your comment!
@@testacorsa150 welcome for my comments and i hope to see more laps on a day with less traffic. I feel the chassis of the car is very neutral but it needs better damping and more power for tracks. Better quality dampers will allow the car to bounce less and flow more with the road camber and is the thing I wish to try but the Bilstein set is not specific for the car but for the whole panda range; however more specific dampers cost a lot. I am thinking to keep the power the same for now.
Very nice driving with great turn lines with lovely little Panda ❤
all these cars of that generation from the Fiat are very good. Panda,Punto ,Stilo .
Thanks a lot 😊
I agree, I have had two Pandas now, 5 years each, and they have been the most reliable cars I ever had. My brother in law hasd a Stilo for a long time too, and that was incredibly reliable as well. They don't have the best reputation, wich I guess dates back to the rusty 70s, but that just means cheap used cars for us, so I'm not complaining 😀
What a video, what a ride in still amazing little Panda! ❤
Enjoyed every second of it!
I'll never forgive myself I missed to buy one low mileage Panda 100HP few years ago...congrats buddy, wish you many many laps! 😊
Thank you very much 😊 Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh, that's too bad. Things like that sting, but they happens to most of us, so please forgive yourself for that. Remember that it is just a car, and there are more low mileage examples out there, so just start looking, and some day, suddenly the right one will be there🙂.
Dude…
i dont know where to start. i love everything.
Your footwork is amazing, the shifts are super quick and the rev matching is awesome.
a 9:34 is impressive, i drive a 55hp vw fox and lap it frequently, i understand what sub 10 means, i have only made it to a 10:25.
your gear selection was spot on and there were no real mistakes at all, you know how to overtake and be overtaken without losing much time and i also love the turn in. you dont have fear to carry much speed into fast corners, which people often just dont figure out due to not really feeling their car and knowing how to handle a less stable condition, this shows especially at eschbach (the right hander before the youtube corner) where the rear always steps out and gets loose over the two little bumps, its exactly the same for me.
i couldnt take my eyes off the video for one single second because it was just mesmerizing going with the flow and seeing you do everything right. i think this car is sooo much fun, its great to drive slow cars fast, i personally would like a little more than 55hp though because some areas are just too fast to get near the limit, in the forest section in the middle of the lap (kesselchen) i cant leave 4th gear and do like 120kph max, even losing speed in the incline and only having 100kph on the speedo at the end of the section. out if vorbers your car at least has a bit of power to get some sort of feedback and acceleration while mine literally has to decide whether we are gonna find some speed or drop some. 100hp seems perfect. the line you chose was great and was pretty much the same like mine, it was awesome in every way.
i also have to say that the cameras like the speedo cam and the foot cam are great and the layout was cool, with the foot cam being on the passenger side in the shadow of the foot area. didnt look like its layed over and fits into the video very well. the rear camera is also cool. what cameras are you using? i only use a normal dashcam and because its on the windshield very far up, the speed doesnt show and you obviously dont see me driving. id like to film like this as well. its a very professional video for such a slow car and you never really see it somewhere else.
This was literally the best onboard video i have seen in a long time, maybe the best ever in my opinion because i can relate sooo much and again, the quality was great and its very exciting.
i am super hyped to have seen this and again, great job. wow
oh btw i did my lap on the exact same day i just figured… had a better driven lap a week later but it was hotter and i somehow lost a lot of power and only managed a 10:33, i still cant figure out how such a big difference can happen. but 18.8. was a great day
omg wait its you, you commented on my lap😂
i didnt figure it out at all, but great to see you drive. i really didnt expect that from you. oh and i didnt know a fiat panda has 100hp when i said theyre in the same league under my video
@enzoferrari8980 Well, now I don't know where to start! First of, thank you so much for your lengthy comment(s), and so many compliments that my face has turned red! I'm not that satisfied with my driving on this lap, if I'm completely honest, but out of nine laps I did, this was the only lap without any yellows, so the only one worth editing.
I do know the track and my car fairly well, but I try to stay a few percent on the right side of the limit all the time.
I'm in a constant battle between my racing instict and my common sense; On one hand, I want to explore every corner with the car right on its toes; Right there, where the tyres are hanging on for dear life, and the car feels really light on its feet - absolutely love that place!
On the other hand, my common sense has huge respect for the ring, and know how fast things can turn sour.
When I watch the videos back, I always wish I pushed a bit harder, because I know I could probably shave 10 secs of the time easily, but not crashing, and staying alive for that matter, is just much more important than those last seconds.
I started with a 60 Hp Panda (well worn out in the end though), and did a 10:33 in that, so your 10:25 in a 55hp VW fox is pretty impressive to me - I have to watch you video again soon :)
The thing with the ring is that it's just too fast for such slow cars. A lot of the corners are just flat out, so not really a challenge at all.
Don't get me wrong, it's stilll fun, but driving there with 100 Hp, and 130 in my mx5 was so much more fun, but it's still not enough to be honest. I would love close to 200 hp pr. tonne, and have thought about either tuning my mx5 or getting an r53 Cooper S.
I can only recommend that you get into a faster car asap, and judging by your driving and track knowledge, you are definitely ready!
How heavy is the little fox btw? It must be pretty light, with the way it goes into corners pretty willingly.
I'm very glad you like the editing, and the way it's all setup on the screen. I spend a lot of time messing with that!
I built a tripod out of 30x30mm wood, which is fastened to three chassis points, and I just use my old LG V40 wide angle video lens with 107 degree FOV, and no auto focus, just like an action cam. The thing with action cams, is that they are always too wide angled, which looses a lot of the sensation of speed imo, and also the perspective gets messed up, so cars in front seem further away than they are for example. That is also the case with my V40, but to a lesser degree. Around 90 - 100 degree FOV would be ideal.
If you decide to try and use your phone, It's important not to use the stabilasation setting of the camera, and set the white balance to match the track and not the interior - my V40 does a good job on auto though. If you need any pictures of the setup to get some ideas or have any other questions, I would be glad to help :) - The rest of the camera specs are in the description btw.
Thanks again for your input, and very flattering compliments!
One of the best ways to learn how to be ultra smooth is with little power.
Looks like awesome fun and very well driven 💪
Thanks mate! Yeah, it's definitely good fun - but to be honest, pretty intense too 😅
Panda is a great little car, also fun to drive but can be tricky if the rear goes too far away. I've got one for 20 years, almost perfectly reliable, never let me down. But the high center of gravity is a huge disadvantage in sports. I could compare Panda on a circular test against low-roof 70s rwd on narrow tires. Despite the live live axle, the low-roof car was effortlessly quicker.
I´ve had two for 5 years each and both were just as reliable as yours. I had a fuel pump quit after 220.000km, but that's it.
A will never be a sports car, for the resons you mention, but as you say they are fun to drive.
I never had a problem with the rear though, as they are incredibly understeery - and It wasn't for lack of trying. Thanks for your comment 🙂
@@testacorsa150 Most of the time but there are moments when things can go wrong. What's I've learnt on training where I only practiced oversteer control is that in Panda you shouldn't really countersteer. Just floor the throttle and keep the previous steering angle. They change direction with countersteering too rapidly to make it a safe method and throttle is usually enough to get the back on track.
What I like about Panda is that it tightens the turn if you brake to shart turn at a very last moment or even after entering the corner. At least non-ABS does it. And the reliability. Except for two minor electrical issues with lights, and one set of locked gear linkage it never had any issues. Once, just once in 20 years it light up 'check engine' but before I got it connected to a computer, the light went off, and there was no sign it affected it in any way. Now I work in a car fleet and most new cars have check engine lit up like 4 times a year on average, and often it is an actual problem that needs repairs.
Simplesmente notável !!! Grande Panda e hiper piloto.
great ride and fantastic little panda ! :)
Thanks very much!
Well done mate - Smashing it at the Ring once again! Looking forward to joining you one day in mine!
Thanks mate :)
Yeah! Mouse-camion 2.0 is back! Love it!!!😊
❤ thanks for sharing! Look after that baby!🎉
Thanks for watching and your comment 🙂
- and I am trying my best 🧑🔧
Great Drive!
Very nice heel'toe my friend... Very nice to see this skill in a fiat panda
Thank you! ☺
I had to make the brake pedal wider to be able to do it in the Panda, but it works a treat, and is pretty fun to do.
Super driving and video !!
Thanks Jones :)
Dude nice! Proper lap. Glad you're out there!
Thanks a bunch - not my best lap, but the only one i got without yellows 🙃
@@testacorsa150 Don't stress it and enjoy :)
@@Kraid07 True that, and I do exactly that on track, but when I get home I feel a bit disappointed about it though, I must admit. The amout of cars there has gone crazy, but that's just how it is now, I guess 🤷♀
Man ska´jo æ vær sinne mæ æ gas! 😁
I truly miss my Panda 😢. Such fun cars.
Nice driving Sir
Much obliged Sir 🙂
I love how you can give full throtle in the exits and not worry about understeer because the power is just enough, haha
Well, In some corners sure, but I have to manage the throttle in a lot of corners to avoid understeer, and if the corners are sharp, the inside wheel will spin up too. An LSD would be really nice to have!
bella guida, bravo
Grazie mille :)
Super video and driving man! :)
Thank you :)
Brilliant driving, and that was some send into the karussell! I did my first laps back in April in my similarly powered Seat Ibiza, not sure if I would’ve kept up with you in the corners though😂
Thanks very much. Hard not to feel sorry for the car through the karussell, but the faster you're through the less time the car suffers 😁. I wish I just did my first lap again, that was such an experience!
I wish you would finish the RHD to LHD conversion on this car, and finally put the pedals on the correct side.
I admire your long legs though.
I drive a 1.0-litre Kia Morning (Picanto). This lap is inspirational
Thanks, I'm flattered.
Nice, man :)
Thanks 😊✌
Bravo
Some more info, I was traveling with 3 people, total weight 1700kg / 200KHPvs Panda 1 person 1170/ 100HP 🙂

Have you done any suspension/strut bar/anti roll bar upgrades ?
No, the car is comepletely standard, and pretty understeery. Full specs in the description.

Grande!

how is the car after all of this?
It's absolutely fine. I found that the Nordschleife is not nearly as hard on a car as i had thought it would be (on the slow cars I drive anyways), but I do keep the car well maintained, and I always change the oil and brake fluid before I go.
I just run street tires, so the forces and speeds are not that high, and I also run stardard brakes with standard Bosch pads, and there is no problems with heat or brake fade - But I do try to take it a bit easy on them though, and brake relatively early and not so hard that the ABSkicks in.
Come to think of it, I actually did two laps twice in a row this time, and had no problems what so ever. Long may it continue 🤞🙂
