Ok so first off I want to give you boys credit for even attempting this test. However, as someone with first hand knowledge of this test I must critique you a little in case you want to do it again. 1st. The order you do the test plays a big factor, whenever I would get out of the pool my arms were so dead it effects your pushups so the swim must come first to feel the full effect. Also you must use the combat side stroke. 2nd. When you do the pushups you want someone in front of you with their fist on the ground, you must touch their fist and go to full extension to count as a rep. Also if you arch your back in the up position the test is over and you finish with the number you are at. 3rd. With the sit-ups the arms make an X on your chest and your hands are on the collar bone. If your hands come off or if your back is on the ground for more that 2-3 seconds the test is over and you finish with the number you are at. 4th. You did chin ups not pull ups the palms must face forward. 5th The run …...well its a 1.5 mile run you simply run it and it sucks. Cheers Boys overall job well done!
Sorry, this one's a fail. The swim is first, and that makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in how well you can do in the rest. Swim and then you've got 10 minutes to change and get ready for the rest. Only two minutes rest between push-ups, sit-ups she pull-ups. Then ten minutes Pull-ups are palms out. No chin ups. The run isn't done with sneakers. Got to be done in BDU and boots....boondockers in my day. Nice work trying it, but it doesn't really count without the time limits in between and following the requirements for how it must be done.
I’m sure you both are great athletes and clearly great body builders... but there is something to be said about mental toughness and living comfortable in uncomfortable situations.
once you become really good at muscle-mind connection, the transition to atlethic stuff becomes harder, compared to someone who just did athletic stuff, you just unnecessarily squeeze and feel every part of the movement compared to someone who just does it explosively and with momentum, so the numbers you will get will always be lower unless you change how u do the exercise. but props to both of you this is interesting to say the least.
@Parma zyxwvu u dont understand my point at all, and u are wrong saying its easy, if u focused all your life on certain hypertrophy rep ranges, your fast twitch muscles arent nearly as developed as someone who only focused on explosive low reps, but bodybuilders usually focus on medium to high reps in order to build all muscle fibres to maximise size, but this is a downside when u wanna be an explosive athlete, the guys you mentioned train both in the same day, i was talking about people who only train one way and then try to transition to other after years of training different
muscle mind connection is the opposite of explosive, you literally squeze and often slow down the eccentric even if u try to not do this you kinda run into problems because you have to really focus on not doing it since your body is used to slowing down the movement in order for you to "feel it working" better, explosiveness and strenght are built by just raw power and moving weight.. ofc you need proper form but besides that is from A to B as fast as possible its literally the opposite of mind muscle connection , thats why i said its hard to turn off one in order to do the other , if u are very used to the first one only. i dont expect you to understand this anyway.
I didn't realize how in shape I was when in the Marine Corps. It was a long time ago, but I would do 20 pullups, kipping was allowed, 110 situps in I believe 2 minutes? and a 3 mile run in 19:45. Pushups weren't a part of the test but my Gunnery Sgt. would make me do pushups every morning. The most I could do was 75.
No it doesn’t; I took the PST and the requirement was in shorts and running shoes. When you get to BUDS then yes you will be doing this on in full uniform with boots and pants but not for the PST.
@@user-lt7wm1hw3r I failed the push up portion so no, These were my results Swim: 10:22 Push up: 45(they didn’t count like 15 of them) Sit up: 61 Pull up: 11 Run:10:06

No they fucking don’t. I look like a fucking stick and I can do 80~ push ups. I run a 6.22 mile (which is below average I think). I haven’t tested my sit ups but I’m sure I probably would do worse than them.
During my Army days my scores were, 90 pushups, 65 situps, 20 pullups, 2 mile run 12.30 minutes, these guys have way too much muscle for such low scores, then again I was only 170 lbs maybe that's why.
@Gabe Stein lol no hes right. they have no endurance. I was regularly maxing out push ups and sit ups for these tests. 105 push ups, 110 sit ups. and I'm not built at all. athletic, but definitely not built.
The thing to remember about this fitness test is that it’s the minimum to qualify for acceptance to the US Navy SEALs BUDS (Basic Underwater Demolition School,), which is their Basic Training. So this is the ‘trying to get in’ test.
Their body fat was too low to withstand a real navy seal test. When your body fat is that low and you have that much muscle your body will use twice the oxygen to power it. NavySeals in most cases do not carry this much muscle and furthermore carry more body fat to protect against the effects of hypothermia.
and just to prove it, in two min I did 27 push-ups in one min cuz I could not hold myself up afterwards. and I just did 50 sit-ups on a sliding carpet without someone to hold my feet down and that in one min forty. and I am not strong at all, I am 16 years old, 68 kilos, 185 cm tall, plus 11-15% fat, not what you call big or strong.
I’m a 19 year old girl who has no interest in being a body builder, yet I absolutely LOVE your videos. You’re motivating, your family is so precious and you deserve all the subs 🥰🥳🥳
Hey guys, I’ve taken about 7 or 8 PSTs in the last year, passed all of them and received a Navy rescue swimmer contract. So here is my $.2. This is just for anyone wondering, not to be a TH-cam troll. Good on you guys for trying. These are called PST(physical screening test) and are done by all spec op/war candidates to earn a contract. Swim- in my opinion the swim always warmed up my shoulders and body in general. Going cold into push ups and pull ups is rough. Also, I don’t remember if Seals can do breast stroke, but they mostly use combat side stroke. Rescue swimmers have to do freestyle. You guys did some sort breast stroke thing. Breast stroke is a great stroke and relaxing, but not the fastest. The major difference is that you’re doing it in a pool and can push off the walls which helps a lot. It also helps keep you in a straight line. If you zigzag around, you just swim more. You also had 10 minutes to change and with demonstrations probably a 15 minute rest after the swim. Pushups- solid form, def keep your eyes up. PRO TIP: sort of twisting your hand into the ground will turn your elbows closer/into your torso and facing more directly behind you. Forearm facing toward. In turn you will use the bigger muscles in your chest and overtime will be able to get really good numbers. When your elbows are bowed out in the down position you use a lot of shoulder and no matter what will tire out faster. 60 ish push ups mostly as far as you will get with your elbows out. To get those 80-100 numbers get that elbow in. Sit ups- arms across chest and hands on the collar bones. Over the knee was definitely extra. We did maybe 2 Inches below the knee. Pull ups- hands forward. Aside from that, they were solid looking. Run- 10:50 isn’t a bad time. 10:15 was auto qual for RS. Not sure about SO. If you guys are ever in San Diego, ca let me know if you want to do something on base. Cheers.
Victor Aranda yes, I hope I explained it well enough. In a normal push up position your elbows are pretty much are pointing away from your body and Bowing out when you’re in the down position. Turning your hands into the ground(creating torque) will bring your elbow pointing towards your feet and your forearm and bicep facing forward. In the down position your elbows will be close to your torso. This will engage larger muscle groups in your chest, instead of using a lot of your shoulders. Try it and you will feel the difference. It will feel weird at first, but it’s better form.
Can't speak for the seals test, but the following was the physical test to work for a helitack crew for the Forest Service (1999-2002). 1.5 mile run: 10:30 or less Pushups: 45 in 1 minute Sit-ups: 45 in 90 seconds I think. Pull-ups: 10 ( not chin-ups) 3 mile, 90lb pack test over varied terrain. (1.5 hours I think) No swim test If you couldn't pass a requirement after several attempts you got moved somewhere else. This was pretty standard in the Forest Service at the time. I have no idea what the standards are now. Hot shot crews and smoke jumpers had tougher requirements.
This is an exercise that should be done with a serving Navy Seal or a Navy seal Veteran present as the judge. I imagine they would be excellent critics.
@@bikeguy3034 can't really think of a harder way to do them though. They would have blasted through any PT test I had to do. That swim though. 12 minutes of straight swimming is damn impressive even if you're just treading water especially at those temps.
Honestly I can give only a civilian point of view on there performance. Tried to join the Army when I was 19. Couldn't get in since I had a broken leg from a motorcycle wreck. My brother who I always like to think of as my Rambo brother was in the Navy for 15 years. Well the Rambo part is since he got into the work out thing in high school. No he doesn't look like Sly. My uncle Tom was in Vietnam as a Seabee and my dearly departed Grandfather was a WWII veteran. I think that Steve's (my brother) wife was in the Navy for 20 years. I envy my fellow Americans who got to serve Uncle Sam. I don't however even wonder the horrifying things that my Grandfather or uncle were witnesses to during WWII or Vietnam.
I honestly wasn’t expecting them to fail anything cuz they’re both in such great shape and they look amazing I guess that shows that just because someone looks to be in great shape doesn’t mean they’re fully equipped to do any exercise U still have to practice
They had way too much muscle mass for all those exercises , if they would lose a lot of weight they will do it easily but I don't think you understand what it means to carry around so much weight and run or swim or whatever..
Dude how you didnt expect them to fail? Even doctors confuse why in pinnacle of bodybuilding are not about health (you can see any health articles about Mr. Olympia). Too many steroids here and there.
Yeah I was laughing watching these beasts do this. I was a pudge in USMC boot camp and I used to do the 20 pull-ups to Max and 15 more just to piss everybody off, I would max out the crunches and could usually have a good 30 seconds left in the 2-minute period but the run was always my kryptonite. I could average 2 minute quarters for as long as you wanted to go run but as soon as you got me off of that pace I was done within a half mile. Full disclosure on the pull ups, I used to switch grip between pull-ups and chin-ups to do that many but seeing these monsters struggling at 15 makes me happy.
@@hollyrollu it’s all about weight though these guys weigh at least 100kg, and it’s not their aim to do all this, you wouldn’t criticise a marathon runner for having a slow 100M

there is respect for it but if you're going to try it do it right. you cant stop during sit ups for a break you cant pike during pushups and its overhand pull ups not under so if they did any of those right id have respect XD yet they did everything the easy way out
Well because this isn't the true seal test. He says at the beginning they want to swim last to they aren't hypothermic, but everyone knows the seals would be covered in sand and soaking wet doing these days. And while doing the test, someone would be spraying them with a hose.....
Don Ward Negative. This is the test to start training for the REAL training to become a Frogman. This is all to prove your worth for the pre-training. Then IF you get selected, you begin the real training which supposedly lasts months into years. 🤣

I was in the regular Navy and this is the standard PRT, (Physical Readiness Test), we had to take every year. I never worked out, smoked and drank beer like it was water. I always did 100 sit-ups ,100 push ups, and an easy 25 pull ups and ran the 1.5 in or around 10 minutes? I hated running. I am a certified PADI diver so the swim for me in 50F degree water would be a nice and brisk breeze. I was certified in the Sea of Japan. In my field, though, we started with 15 minutes of treading water before we immediately transitioned to the swim. That was also what we have to do in boot camp to pass. I would have died to have your guy’s physical looks. It has always been my goal to look as good as you guys, (you know why). I’m in my 50’s now and still do 50 sit-ups and pushups in a regular maintenance routine with occasional 20+ mile bike rides. Oh yea, I now vape but still drink beer like a fish. (Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq Wars).
Being jacked has never meant being fit. Most bodybuilders are not actually healthy, have poor blood circulation and are not physically fit. All that muscle is actually useless mass.
@@ewandaly1283 Not talking about all muscle, talking specifically about overly large bodybuilder muscle mass most of which is useless with regards to physical fitness and endurance. The average Marine and Navy SEAL are not jacked like these two guys. These men are ripped BUT they are not physically fit. Despite having larger muscles than the average Marine, these guys aren't even fit enough to be basic Marines coming out of boot camp. I watched their Marine PT test video and these guys wouldn't even have a passing score for the Navy's 1.5 mile run-- and I mean basic non-Special Forces navy sailors. And the reason they failed is because of too much muscle mass and too low body fat percentage. Which is why I said much of their muscle is useless mass (with regards to fitness) and also why I said that being jacked doesn't mean being fit.
truth in the marines if you're too built they break u down to a better muscle mass to where you are efficient and everything flows. they want a balanced body

They don't choose who makes it they weed out the one's that can't. If you pass BUDs that doesn't guarantee you're a Navy SEAL. That's the start you have a lot more training before you actually get that title from your platoon/Team!!
Marcus Luttrell,a former SEAL,said that guys like them didn't even make it into training.A former SEAL commander said years ago that they get guys like those two all the time and he said they don't make it.It's the same with the other elite forces too:Marine Recon,MARSOC,Green Berets,Rangers,Delta Force,Air Force Para Rescue,SAS,SBS, Russian Spetsnaz, etc. They don't want the biggest, tallest or strongest, they want guys that can endure, run and swim fast and long and that can really take pain.

Just an FYI from someone that actually has taken this test. In order for it to be a VALID test it has to be done in a certain order with specific time rest intervals in between each as follows: SWIM 500 YDS.Side stroke/breast stroke 12:30 REST 10 MIN. PUSH-UPS (within 2 min) 42 Rest 2 minutes SIT-UPS (within 2 min) 50 Rest 2 minutes PULL-UPS (no time limit) 6 Rest 10 minutes 1.5 MILE RUN 11:00 min
Canadian Arctic Radio ever heard of hypothermia? Sweating when its cold can cause freezing. Its better to strip down and let heat expel and once your done layer up again to keep core heat. Really simple logic. Learned it hunters safety. Winter kills more hunters than summer and its the same for an athlete. Minus the 50lbs of hunting equipment.
Too much muscle mass is a problem for relative strength exercices like these tests. The extra muscles that’s do not have specific function for these exercices consume extra oxygen and they put excessive strain on cardiovascular requirements for no real world advantage.
The US military branches are adding max strength components and max force output components as well, on top of relative weight exercises. Now it’s going to be a more wholistic test. The best result will come from a strong guy who can dominate endurance as well. We’re talking 340lb deadlift for 3 strong
The funny thing about this is the test is just to make sure your body is ready to START the training. You will be pushed waaayyyyy past this in training lol

Thank god someone said it, The swimming first is crucial
Also, if you had energy to sprint at the end of the 1.5, you weren't running hard enough
Wow very respectfully laid out, clear and concise, reprimanding while offering encouragement. Hallmarks of a good team leader. Respect m8. God Bless!
6th. Nobody fucking cares and don’t waste your time writing paragraphs in the comment section of TH-cam
Don''t forget no crossing your feet or kipping when doing pull ups.

Sorry, this one's a fail. The swim is first, and that makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in how well you can do in the rest. Swim and then you've got 10 minutes to change and get ready for the rest.
Only two minutes rest between push-ups, sit-ups she pull-ups. Then ten minutes
Pull-ups are palms out. No chin ups.

mike thurston is literally doing this test like a bodybuilder squeezing every rep and doing it very slow, then he wonders why he fatigues so fast xD
Haha! Getting that sick contraction
once you become really good at muscle-mind connection, the transition to atlethic stuff becomes harder, compared to someone who just did athletic stuff, you just unnecessarily squeeze and feel every part of the movement compared to someone who just does it explosively and with momentum, so the numbers you will get will always be lower unless you change how u do the exercise. but props to both of you this is interesting to say the least.
exactly! thats what i thought since the first challenge, he's treating it like a proper work out lol

Their body fat was too low to withstand a real navy seal test. When your body fat is that low and you have that much muscle your body will use twice the oxygen to power it. NavySeals in most cases do not carry this much muscle and furthermore carry more body fat to protect against the effects of hypothermia.

Cheers.
Have fun at sere, nerd lol
Thanks for your service man
Good comment bro
So push ups with elbows in are better ?
Victor Aranda yes, I hope I explained it well enough. In a normal push up position your elbows are pretty much are pointing away from your body and Bowing out when you’re in the down position.
Turning your hands into the ground(creating torque) will bring your elbow pointing towards your feet and your forearm and bicep facing forward. In the down position your elbows will be close to your torso. This will engage larger muscle groups in your chest, instead of using a lot of your shoulders. Try it and you will feel the difference. It will feel weird at first, but it’s better form.
After the race, I like the part where he's about to puke his lungs out😂😂

Can't speak for the seals test, but the following was the physical test to work for a helitack crew for the Forest Service (1999-2002).
1.5 mile run: 10:30 or less
Pushups: 45 in 1 minute
Sit-ups: 45 in 90 seconds I think.
Pull-ups: 10 ( not chin-ups)
3 mile, 90lb pack test over varied terrain. (1.5 hours I think)
No swim test
If you couldn't pass a requirement after several attempts you got moved somewhere else.
This was pretty standard in the Forest Service at the time. I have no idea what the standards are now. Hot shot crews and smoke jumpers had tougher requirements.

Being jacked has never meant being fit. Most bodybuilders are not actually healthy, have poor blood circulation and are not physically fit. All that muscle is actually useless mass.
@@rustincohle2135 Muscles is mass but it's not useless
@@ewandaly1283 Not talking about all muscle, talking specifically about overly large bodybuilder muscle mass most of which is useless with regards to physical fitness and endurance. I watched their Marine PT test video and these guys wouldn't even have a passing score for the Navy's 1.5 mile run-- and I mean basic non-Special Forces navy sailors. Mike's abs are clearly just for show at this point.

jaayyy_ 27 that’s what they mean lol all for show.
Alot of weight to pull up so no
They are bodybuilders so I guess they get a pass a slimmer guy would easily pass this especially someone who does crossfit and doesnt weigh as much.

that be a good one
Jonathan Chan I would guess theirs is around 110-120

Do "an" IQ test. lol
I'd max it out
Too much muscle mass is a problem for relative strength exercices like these tests. The extra muscles that’s do not have specific function for these exercices consume extra oxygen and they put excessive strain on cardiovascular requirements for no real world advantage.
Tshh my words exactly
The US military branches are adding max strength components and max force output components as well, on top of relative weight exercises. Now it’s going to be a more wholistic test. The best result will come from a strong guy who can dominate endurance as well. We’re talking 340lb deadlift for 3 strong
If only they were triathletes 😉
Jontootiny 340lb deadlift for 3? Lmao so not strong at all?
Macho Man Randy Savage if you were in the military you’d know that most of them are just that... not strong at all

The PST navy seal test is actually over hand pull ups, not under hand chin ups. Still probably would’ve passed but just wanted to let you know!
Dammit! Didn't realise. Awkwaaaard
those are harder, RIP
The sit-ups you also cross your arms across your chest, not behind your head
@@thomasbloom9391 behind your head sit-ups are much harder lol
The funny thing about this is the test is just to make sure your body is ready to START the training. You will be pushed waaayyyyy past this in training lol
Navy Seals have to do a challenge called the murph challenge you should try that, it’s a 1 mile run followed by 300 air squats, 200 pushups, 100 pull-ups followed by another mile run
Not a navy seal workout it’s something people do on memorial day
Sounds super fun
What are air squats?
Krishaang Deep squats using bodyweight
Navy seals do not have to do that lmao, a navy seal made that, all with a weighted vest.
Whilst swimming they got closer to a heart stroke than a breast stroke 😂

"The waters cold" wow I wonder if the Navy seals do it in a hot tub
Hahaha
As I remember a Navy Seal stated in an interview that they're approx 60% in water or are wet during training. And definitely not just hot water.
no they do it in the ocean
