My personal record when I was in the Corps was 42. A weight vest and do dips, pulls ups, push ups and planks. Max reps between exercises for half an hour daily. Best advice I could give anyone on increasing their pull ups. EDIT: Cardio is easily the most important aspect of a Marines physical training, which is why we run all the damn time. It sucks, and most of us hate it, but were damn good at it. I only ran over 19:00 twice in 5 years. Once in basic training on a broken foot 21:37, and the other 5 months later 19:52. The fastest guy I ever personally trained with ran a 16:23.
Little tip on the pull-ups for any future marines out there. Pull until your chin barely passes the bar and shoot back down as fast as you can to preserve energy! 💪🏼💪🏼 My last scored pft: Pull ups-22 Crunches-122 3 mile- 16:17

I recorded a perfect 300 pft score once in my 4 years in. I was extremely proud of that, it isn't easy at all. The 3 mile run I ended with 17:59, I crossed the finish line, walked 4 steps to my left where the grass was and proceeded to throw up for the next couple minutes, great times 😆
Bro that’s crazy insane. The best 3 mile time I got was a 19:45 with 26 pull-ups (only county 20 but I did 6 more because they it to your mol account) and 100 crunches.
Per the Marine Corps Order (MCO 6100.13A)- “A certain amount of inherent body movement will occur as the pull-up is executed. However, the intent is to avoid a pendulum-like motion that enhances the ability to execute the pull-up. Whipping, kicking, or kipping of the body or legs, or any leg movement used to assist in the vertical progression of the pull-up is not authorized. If observed, the repetition does not count for score.” The order also says- “Legs may be positioned in a straight or bent position, but knees may not be raised above the waist.” HOWEVER- “The bar must be high enough to allow the tallest Marine’s legs to hang straight without touching the ground, when arms are fully extended.” But they’re obviously not running it for promotion or entry into the Marine Corps lol. They did a pretty good job overall! The run isn’t easy for anyone unless you’re one of those physical freaks who runs in their sleep (aka-NOT ME) They should do the Combat Fitness Test (CFT) next!

advice from a marine trainee: pull-ups- when u get ur chin above the bar, just drop to dead hang. u are using a lot of extra energy controlling ur drop. dont stop, just go. if u stop u will get more tired if u think u can't get any more pull ups with ur grip in the one direction then switch grips. at boot camp they will have u switch grips if u don't think u can do more I have to say that i am happy to see that u did ur research on the crunches because they aren't normal crunches crunches- so the minimum for crunches is 55 to pass not 70 how u were holding his legs is exactly how u have to hold others legs for crunches in the marines when doing crunches dont stop, u will get even more tired if u stop u both actually passed the crunches and the pullups 3 mile run- let me say first that u have to finish a 1.5 miles in 13 minutes and 30 seconds for men and women have to finish 1.5 miles in 14 minutes and 30 seconds besides what i mentianed u guys both passed and did a fairly great job

Marine pull up strategy: arms super wide, overhand, go as fast possible. Waaaaaay easier to get 20. These guys are doing way too much work.
Michael Padilla I agree. I always maxed out with that technique. Almost always got a 290 or more. Run kicked my but.
ANAYALATOR OFF ROAD is the run harder cause you did the max crunches and pull-ups before or is the run just hard in general?
Josh Rodgers for me, doing the max crunches right before the run took a little bit out of strength of my thighs which affected my run time I feel like. But you have to take into consideration when I served we did a full sit up. Elbow to knee.
coz they’re doing it “right”
Overhand is harder than underhand tho. I’ve been lightly training for a few months, I Can always do more underhand

Yes, but that's the incorrect form so technically none of them counted.
@@brianwilliamsjr6996 I hear ya bro but he technically did have better (crunch) form since the only requirement was to bring your arms to your legs. All I was trynna point out is that he could have gotten more reps in if he was doing the shorter range of crunch in the same form.
@@Raymondstu I dunno man honestly I find the crunch way harder than the full range sit up. Those crunches keep your abs engaged the entire time. Full range sit up only during the middle. I get everyone is different but he may have ended up doing them that way because it's easier for him

he was on more roids.
Even if you can do the physical, most people are broken by the psychological tests practiced by the military, especially special forces units. You can be as strong as an ox or a bodybuilder I guess but if you crack mentally then the physical tests are inconsequential.
exactly so that's why it doesn't even matter about all these guys being jacked or huge off steroids and stuff because if you're not mentally strong it don't matter you not going to last the point of the military is to break you down and rebuild you into the soldier they see fit

And he's probably used to training his abs in the low rep range
They don't count for the Marine pft, you have to keep your arms on your stomach for them to count
You should do like the NFL combine tests. Just the ones you can do, like the bench press, 40yd dash, vertical leap, broad jump, etc
Would be decent actually
The best way to recover after a run like that is to walk with you’re hands over you’re head to slow you’re heart rate
not in a healthy way tho. the reason why it lowers heart rate is because it constricts breathing.

Mike's last 2 wouldn't have counted. He swung his legs to pull up
Scottie Buchanan he said you can swing your legs up a little but not an exaggerated amount
Per the Marine Corps Order (MCO 6100.13A)-
“A certain amount of inherent body movement will occur as the pull-up is executed. However, the intent is to avoid a pendulum-like motion that enhances the ability to execute the pull-up. Whipping, kicking, or kipping of the body or legs, or any leg movement used to assist in the vertical progression of the pull-up is not authorized. If observed, the repetition does not count for score.”
The order also says-
“Legs may be positioned in a straight or bent position, but knees may not be raised above the waist.”
HOWEVER-
“The bar must be high enough to allow the tallest Marine’s legs to hang straight without touching the ground, when arms are fully extended.”
But they’re obviously not running it for promotion or entry into the Marine Corps lol. They did a pretty good job overall! The run isn’t easy for anyone unless you’re one of those physical freaks who runs in their sleep (aka-NOT ME)

pull-ups-
when u get ur chin above the bar, just drop to dead hang. u are using a lot of extra energy controlling ur drop.
dont stop, just go. if u stop u will get more tired
if u think u can't get any more pull ups with ur grip in the one direction then switch grips. at boot camp they will have u switch grips if u don't think u can do more
I have to say that i am happy to see that u did ur research on the crunches because they aren't normal crunches
crunches-
so the minimum for crunches is 55 to pass not 70
how u were holding his legs is exactly how u have to hold others legs for crunches in the marines
when doing crunches dont stop, u will get even more tired if u stop
u both actually passed the crunches and the pullups
