I used to work for Toyota and on my first day I had to read their hand book. They put much emphasis on "Kaizen" - Continuous improvement and innovation
Kaizen is a working team that within the company floor people mostly to improve working conditions. Toyota pay its kaizen teams to help save the company money, plus they have Kaizen country competitions... yes, they have a grand prize for the best Kaizen. Toyota has one other program that they call safety... they pay you to help make the company a more safe place to work. Toyota has a lot of great benefits as well... How would I know, I’m a Retired Toyota employee. I started working for Toyota motors sales inc, North America San Francisco region when i was 19yrs old. They thought me a lot about business. The family Toyoda, really cares about there employees. Japanese companies are the best to work for. You are family for life, if you can get a job with them. The dealerships aren’t owned by Toyota, they don’t get the same benefits or the same pays. I guess I was lucky to have worked for one of the best companies in automotive
I have been buying and selling cars for more than 20 yrs. Toyota is well above all other car manufacturers. Currently drive a 2007 Camry hybrid with 280k miles. Only thing I've done to it is one brake change, oil changes, and a 12 volt battery. The hybrid battery has not given out yet. I'm blown away how reliable this car is!!
Toyota factory workers are actually commended if they stop the factory line if they see a quality control issue, American brands, just fix a bad ECU harness with a peace of foam putting more pressure on the harness 😄 my cousin works at GM.
All bout them numbers. I work at gerdau macsteel in Arkansas. We supply steel to companies that supply the parts for automotive and big trucks. And here it's the same thing, just get out the numbers sactey and quality we worry worry out later
Being a Toyota Mechanic myself for the past 4 years after previously working with Opel and Kia and owning a 2006 toyota Corolla Diesel with 435K on the clock I can honestly say no other cars come close in terms of reliability 👍
I stick to Toyota's for my daily cars. Generally the engines have little less HP then other manufacturers, but the Toyota engine will last a lot longer.
Less power in the engine = less engine’s stress, less engine’s stress = longer dependability and reliability, you don’t need big amount of power for a daily driver, that’s why Toyotas cars is the best option for a person who want a truly reliable vehicle.
True. I think ill also stick to Toyota and Honda for as long as possible. Not to mention The fact that only time you really need performance is If ur overtaking and whatnot.
I worked with a manager who taught "Quality does not start at the back door!" Meaning quality must be assured from the beginning process to the end process.
My first Toyota was an 06’ Tacoma .. i beat the Snot out of that thing for 13 years and it NEVER let me down. Currently a 2019 Tundra 1794 edition.. love it even more. 👍
I currently have a 2011 Tacoma and will run that beast into the ground before I even consider buying another car... which will probably be in 13 years given Toyota's durability lol
Scotty I’ve been in the industry for 38 years and I’m the 3rd generation in my family in the industry but I love how you fine detail your explanation on things for people to understand that it isn’t cheap to have quality work which in turn you need quality parts to do the work properly so the consumer can understand the logic we all like prices to be low but quality vs quantity goes hand in hand.
BMW owner all my life, have now bought myself a nice old little Toyota Auris and I cannot be happier, starts every single time and no matter how much you abuse these cars (not that I do) they just keep bloody going.
If you ever been to japan the bullet train is 1 min late the will apologizes for the inconvenience. So take that and crank it up to 11 and that's what you can expect from the smart city. I bet if the bullet train there is 1 second late you get a ticket for a free ride
I would try to get in but that mt fuji i don't know it might erupt some day😰why because Japan is right on Pacific rim areas they already had a few earthquakes last few weeks and theses are supposed the after shock from that big one in 2011 that is the one cause the big tsunami which wipes out several city and damage the nuclear power plant Japan is having trouble to decommissioned the plan the area are full of radiation and they are trying hard to make it livable again
@@williampow69 you do realize that japan has about 30 small earthquakes every day. When I say small they are a 1 to 3 on the Richter scale so you dont really notice them.
@Joye J : Volkswagen has its own city, it's called Wolfsburg. And it has worked well since before the WW2. Toyota is great, I totally agree, but don't put down other's accomplishments.
@Joye J : Yes, they got a serious bruise from that Diesel emmission scandal. Too bad, that basically killed the Diesel engine for passenger cars, althought Diesel can provide the lowest co2 emmision due to higher efficiency of the thermodynamic cycle (50% compared to 40% of the spark ignited engines). Removal of NOx is not a problem with current technology.
I liked the first gen Tacoma’s and the 8th gen Camrys before I found Scotty. After watching him for a while It reinforced my decision to get a Toyota haha the only second car brand i would get is honda
LOVE my 2007 Corolla. Very comfortable, great gas millage, ICE COLD A/C, a absolute luxury. Drove a piece of poop on wheels for 10 years that had none of those things.
I just bought a 2004 Tacoma SR5 a few days ago. It has 273k miles but still runs smooth and drives well. It might end up out living me lol. After watching your videos and driving an 02 corolla, I'm a firm believer in Toyota and their quality
I work for GE/Wabtec and I manufacture Locomotives in Fort Worth,Tx. We use Kaizen, in fact the men that created it comes to our plant once a quarter just to make sure Kaizen is being done properly. Great guy, at least I think so. The only obstacle is that he know no English and has to have a translator with him all the time. Unfortunately, some of the management come in and try to kick it out. Worry more about speed more then Kaizen. But it’s a great system when done properly. I would definitely love to live in this new city if asked to.
Has Scotty mentioned anything bad about Toyota’s I4 engines? Are they turbocharged? So they have the same problems other turbocharged I4’s have? How’s your experience been?
Was a GM guy until I started watching Scotty videos. As they die off they get replaced with Toyotas. 2010 Corolla I bought used for work and 2020 Camry LE bought new for weekends. So far so good.
Have Camry and Corolla both outstanding.Corolla had water sip in under spare tire and rusted the frame.Nothing major but here in Boston rust is the enemy
@@Gallagherfreak100 yeah i had been reading about that and im ok with it, and i know that a lot of people complain about them not being that modern and having the latest technology and quite frankly i dont care as much as i do about having something good quality and reliable, before buying it my husband was looking at the cadillac xt6 but even though it feel more luxurious the 4runner will be better in the long run

@@ThienTran-ul1jz you have wonderful taste in cars! Just had to get a new engine for mine at 356,000 miles, but now I’m back on the streets! I’m never giving my car up. Works too well
I totally agree! And I grew up in Detroit and all my family works for the US car companies. Ironically I was a loyal US car buyer until I went into a Chevy dealer to purchase a Caprice Classic. The dealer showed me a Geo Prizm and a Geo Metro. I bought both for less than the price of the Caprice. The Geo Metro I put 100k miles on it before I sold it. The Geo Prizm (which I found out after I owned it for awhile was actually a Toyota Corolla) I ended up putting 250k on it before giving it to my son. He put another 100k on it and gave it to a friend. Ever since then I’ve bought nothing but Toyotas and have never had a problem with them. I bought a new 2004 Corolla and put 330k trouble free miles on it before giving it to a friend who put another 30k on it before the timing belt broke. Got a 2013 FJ Cruiser and love it!
My family have a 1999 Avalon with 165,000+ miles and it runs like it’s still brand new. Every 3,000 miles, I change the oil and filter. The only major thing I replaced on the car since driving it off the lot new in 1999 was the struts and its starter.
Scotty, The Woven City reminds me of a time when I had my young daughter with me at my workplace. My work was to create the physical layout plans for computer chips. On these chips, we have to put the company name to establish copyright for our product. I worked for Dallas Semiconductor. I had a 40" wide multi-color plot of a completed chip layout on a table. My young daughter looked at that, seeing the multicolor patterns of transistors, resistors, capacitors, diodes and interconnecting wires. She pointed at the word, "Dallas" and asked, "Dad, we are here, where is our house?" She interpreted the chip as a complex city map. Smart kid. Scary smart.
I own a 2007 JDM Toyota Crown Athlete GRS184 3,5l v6 315hp 400Nm. Love it!!! It won’t break, fuel efficient, fast and sounds really good without end mufflers!
Had an old Toyota hatchback in the 90s. Engine ran great for years. Body rusted out so much that I eventually had it towed. But never left me stranded.
I have a friend who works at the engineering facility in Michigan. He says this is no joke, it's true, ANYONE in the company can make suggestions and be taken seriously, and not be yelled at if they stop the line.
Toyota: "Don't accept inferior quality from the previous process, don't make rejects in one's product, and if a reject has been produced, don't knowingly send it to the next process." This is quite different from the American style, the bosses only care about hitting the production numbers (their bonuses and evaluations depend on it). That's what we have final assembly QA and repair for. If they are too busy, just ship it to the customer. That's what warranties are for.
Warranties constantly rejected by dealers. It is better to have good quality product with shorter warranty than inferior one with long warranty. Hello Chrysler, anybody’s home?
@camgere sad isn't it. There once was upon a time that American Auto Makers put emphasis on quality instead of quantity that it was more important to build one great car versus milling out thousands of defective cars. Now it's about building vehicles for profit not for reliability.
2019 Tacoma and 2019 Rav4 Hybrid, 2001 Avalon. Zero warranty issues. 2018 RAM 1500: 7 warranty issues by the time I sold it with only 18,000 miles. You go with what works for you.
Toyota intentionally does not push the limits of performance, when they could do that. They looking for dependable transportation at an affordable cost. The use the same materials that Ford or Chevy. In some cases the parts used in Toyotas are from the same sources as those used by Ford and Chevy. They do better at evaluating the total process from design, to procurement to assembly, for the intended buyer.
@@timothykeith1367 Just because part comes from the same supplier doesn’t equate with the same quality. Toyota may require higher standards. Also design plays huge role in reliability. Not all engines will last as long despite using the same principle.
Ive driven a Toyota most of my life and always enjoy your video’s especially the Toyota vids! If you’re not getting paid by Toyota, you should be!! You should be their HIGHLY paid spokesperson! Thanks for all you do.
just bought the 2012 Lexus ct200h and really enjoying the comfort and quiet when its in electric mode and the fact it feels like it only rolled of the assembly line yesterday is wonderful
Scotty wouldn't take their money because: 1. He is a man of principle, who wants to be seen as honest. 2. He makes $1M per year from TH-cam. Toyota can't outbid that.
Love your channel, even if it has become a daily Toyota commercial. I love American cars, but I still tune in to Scotty Kilmer on a daily basis. This man is doing something right!
Scotty, Toyota should make you residents 001 in their future city. Live there free of charge and make honest videos about it. You have single handily unknowingly help Toyota sell more car then ever.
No quite, it's more word of mouth, I was the first one in my family to buy a Toyota in 1984, now almost all family own one, based on how great mine have been.
I’ve owned 3 Toyota so far, put between the three of them 180k miles (the first two got taken too soon by other drivers in car accidents) and only changed a alternator! I LOVE my Corolla and will always buy Toyotas!!
Sold my wife's '17 suburban premier with 125k and recently rebuilt transmission. Purchased a 2012 sequoia platinum with 146k my wife absolutely loves it! I'm happy too because it won't be in the shop near as often.
Well I am still driving my 23 years old car. Its call Toyota kijang, careburator, manual, timing chain, ladder chasis all the ingredient for durability
Scotty, you earned black belt Six Sigma certification. U are just more than a mechanic, prove passion can take you to next level (Lessons to upcoming mechanics). Glad you mentioned, South Africa my home country.
Take Hino Truck for example.. I've seen them everywhere in nicaragua. I used to live in my country 16 yrs ago and in those days i remember seen large diesel CDL Heavy Toyota trucks for utilities and Cargo, they were noisy but they were also from early 70s still running in the early 2000s.. that's how you how crazy they are for quality
Very impressed with their build quality having recently bought a 15 year old Toyota and found everything works as good as new, which I can't say the same for about my 15 year old Honda. Although the Honda VTEC engine is unmatched.
Toyota Etios was a legend in india, we owned one that had around 300k kilometres on it and still worked good as new, was a really comfortable and cheap car and probably the best in its Competition
I'm from Brazil, yesterday I bought my first Toyota: a 2014 Etios with 148.000km. car runs as new, in perfect shape and really economic. I'm loving it!
"What do you value most looks, luxury, reliability or performance. What if a car had all that but lacked reliability? What do you have? My answer, Jaguar. I'm a recovering Jag addict.
@Vincent James Voice I have heard that as well. There was a guy who had an MG at the place I worked. On the back was a bumper sticker "All of the parts falling off of this car are of the finest British manufacture"
I will always and I mean ALWAYS! Stick with Toyota/Scion/Lexus. Hands down. They got the best four banger that are very simple to maintain from gas cars to hybrid. Granted hybrid four banger are more complex but they are well made. With TRD performance, TRD accessories, and TRD ground effect kits, wheels, and good tires, they are well made vehicles. Especially GR performance
I don't care what anyone says, Scotty's production value is unmatched. What an excellent informative video, easy to follow, well narrated, just absolutely perfect.
Love my Tacoma's , I've had many and see truck's I sold 20 year's ago still going ! 1995 Taco 695k , nothing done except a shifter bushing , came with 10 year unlimited mileage warranty !
Welcome, i bought i used 98 Camry like 9 yrs ago out of an emergency bc my old Honda died, with the intention to change it later on for something much newer. 9 yrs later I'm still trying to get a newer car😆😆 my car refuses to die, and I drive at 80mph on the highway every day..
Proud owner of a 2004 Toyota Camry LE. Original 4 cylinder engine. Original transmission. 4 speed automatic still shifts smooth and doesn't skip a beat. Toyota makes the BEST vehicles, hands down.
Ever since i was a kid in the 70's Toyota has something magical about it. The car that dońt break. Everytime i read tests between a Toyota and another car i always think that what are the comparising? Its a m-f Toyota, it doesnt have to try to bee coolest, fastest or whatever. With confidense Toyota can say we are by far the best, thats enough. We make cars that always starts, are troublefree and are extremely tested for every environment.
I’m in one of those countries that gets the Toyota Prado, Hulux and fortuner , these things cost an arm and a leg brand new. A mid range prado is about 80k usd. While the big land cruiser is about 150k usd after fees and dealership price hikes
I just came here after years of watching Scotty to let him and followers know I bought a Toyota Highlander today. I am so proud and have never fell in love with a car until today.. thank you for your education over the years.. I hope it lasts forever! ❤️
I have an 01 Highlander. Has around 268,500 on it. I have code engine 2AZ-FE. I only use it to drive to work & back. So everyday I drive a good 44 miles a day all together. P0420,p0430,p0440,p0441 &p0446 are the codes on it. I have a lil bit of coolant hanging around. So I refill like a cup every 2 weeks. And the engine burns oil. So every 2 weeks, I refill the engine .1 or .2 liters I can drive the car to 90 mph on the freeway, but on average I go 80 mph. I'm going to keep driving & doing my own oil change until this car breaks. But I highly doubt it.
Almost 203K miles on my 04 Highlander. Catalytic converter is toast due to the oil burning issues. Good to know this crappy engine can possibly get those mileage on it! Oil changes and oil burning issues checked often.
@@T3l3MuNd0 Yeah! I just used 2 bottles of it in February back to back hoping it would get rid of the P0420 code, but no luck. It did help make the vehicle run better, but not strong enough to clean it out the catalytic converter. Let me know if you hit 300K on that 01 Highlander !!!
Ironically the guy that sold me my two Tundras worked at Ford. Praised the Toyotas and told me how he was sick of dealing with f-150 transmission issues. He felt that all the bragging about capability lead to people going right to the limits of the truck to their dismay.
Same here . I bought my 2018 tundra in a Ford dealer . They was offering me a new 2021 f150 cheaper than my 2018 tundra . I said thanks but not thanks 🤷

I’m Crying because I’m a Honda fanboys(Honda Collab with GM is biggest mistake)
Celica GT four hope.
Yea. I meet a lot of gm workers cause my job... they tell me they sit around and goof off most of the time. 🤗
All bout them numbers. I work at gerdau macsteel in Arkansas. We supply steel to companies that supply the parts for automotive and big trucks. And here it's the same thing, just get out the numbers sactey and quality we worry worry out later
And an American named Deming helped Toyota get back on their feet after WW2. 👍
I actually work for Toyota, no one is condemned for stopping the line. Some get pissy, but most people are cool.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Less power in the engine = less engine’s stress, less engine’s stress = longer dependability and reliability, you don’t need big amount of power for a daily driver, that’s why Toyotas cars is the best option for a person who want a truly reliable vehicle.
True. I think ill also stick to Toyota and Honda for as long as possible. Not to mention The fact that only time you really need performance is If ur overtaking and whatnot.

@Joye J You Forgot Ford...it all looks good in theory.
Nice video Scotty. I can’t imagine how many Toyota’s you have help the company sell. They should put you in one of their commercials!

@@charonboat6394 nope
@camgere sad isn't it.
Toyota's philosopy:
QDR
- Quality
- Dependability
- Reliability
Toyota intentionally does not push the limits of performance, when they could do that. They looking for dependable transportation at an affordable cost. The use the same materials that Ford or Chevy. In some cases the parts used in Toyotas are from the same sources as those used by Ford and Chevy. They do better at evaluating the total process from design, to procurement to assembly, for the intended buyer.
@@timothykeith1367 Just because part comes from the same supplier doesn’t equate with the same quality. Toyota may require higher standards. Also design plays huge role in reliability. Not all engines will last as long despite using the same principle.
