You have no Idea how helpful this Is, Ive been trying to wrap my head around why my timing Is off, now I know a whole cheat sheet when to start my steps, thank you Coach
got my last game of the season next Thursday, and despite not being a hitter, this video helped my learn to sync up my sets with my hitters very well. thanks a lot!
yo coach i just came across this vid and i was laughing in joy because u simplified timing and approach for each set THANK YOU SOO MUCH IM SO EXCITED TO GET MANY BALLS THIS TIME 😂❤
Hey! I'm currently playing for Austrian club and at first I had tons of problems with communication with my new setter. But then I watched your video and now I know key phrases to make my life easier. Thanks, coach!
@@coachartie great advice and coaching you give in your videos, I think that more people that's struggling on volleyball should watch the videos you upload.
Haha oh! I totally misunderstood that. I thought you meant like more attention towards editing. Thought you were giving me feedback lol 🤣 Thanks for your kind words ☺️
thanks so much! I had alot of trouble for the longest time with my timing as a middle as I had the vertical and I had the power so I was really confused as to why I was not hitting the ball, turns out I was running way to slow for a quick, this really helps with how I mentally approach the game thanks!
I can’t thank u and your knees enough, I have always been struggling with this exact problem. I just tried out this timing method today and everything become so clear, before I never knew whether its my problem or setters’. Keep up the good work coach Artie💪💪
You bring up an excellent method of practicing and understanding the timing of the approach with different sets, but in game the four step approach has a very simple flaw - it's slower; the extra step takes more time, which you might not have in game, especially if you're relatively inexperienced (like me) and don't always transition fast enough from the block or the receive. Also, every set is a bit different, so you do need to change speed and rhythm of your steps. That being said, i do think this is a brilliant video, and would definitely sub to the channel.
Bro I’m actually mad at u for not making this like 2 years ago lol I’m just joking but my coaches in 7th and 8th grade always said to wait till the volleyball was out of the setters hands and at it’s peak I wondered why my timing was so bad im going try this new stuff I learned for 9th grade tryouts that are in spring. Thanks for all this coach. P.S you earned yourself a sub
Lol. Realising I've been doing four steps from the beginning because I never got the right tempo with 3 steps. ❤ but now I know what it should look like from outside
This is the most helpful video Ive seen for spiking. My legs are still sore from jumping and I thought I couldn't train. I could practice the 4 step approach without even jumping, so I can train on rest days
Great video!! Is there a name for the way you attacked the ball at 7:28? It's brilliant the way you got the ball way behind, but twisting the arm from the back.
I don't think either approach is better than another. They both have their uses for specific scenarios. You have to determine what will be best for the play, the situation and the individual ability of the hitter.
Bro pls help my form is horrible i start good with 4 steps but in the end i jump only with my left foot and i loose a lot of jumping plus i feel like when im in air spiking that ball like with 30% of my power i cant add all my power in that spike
Great video, just started with volleyball and even though im a good jumper and trained a lot for my approach and armswing, i could never really connect due to my bad timing and now i have something to work with. I have one more question, how do i communicate with my setter on which tempo he plays? Because with your 4 step approach guide, i would need to know beforehand what tempo my setter is planing to do.
coach Artie i'm trying to get better at volleyball and im confused on how to set i've seen people say stuff about the amount of fingers and i just want to know if their is a proper from i hope that you could help me and others out please
Coach. I am having a tough time mastering it all. Should I focus on the footwork first or the swing?! As always thank you so much for the valuable info. Your hard work is very appreciated!
Good question. I know it's hard but try mash it all together. It might be helpful to try focus on the approach a bit more. But science tells us mashing it all helps over all the most. 🙏
Hey Coach. I've noticed after playing for a while, my low back hurts. I'm not sure if it's my spike form or my passing (don't think it's my setting), so I was wondering if you know the more usual causes for pain in the low back and how to adjust to avoid them. Thanks in advance
how do I know what kind of set am I gonna get in advance? If I assume a mid set and Im already on 2nd step and the setter give me high ball then Im cooked. And if I wait for a high set and I get a mid set instead Im cooked again cuz im late on approach
Wait i dont get it do some people not use 4 step for me i use it to jum higher or so that my third step wil actually okay i use third when the ball is to far or i was far from the hitting line and i couldnt react
You talk to him. If the pass is good he can go for a medium, if bad, he can go for a high. You have to judge then the quality of pass. Once you get to know what your setter can and cannot do, you know what to do everytime
Haha hey I use to close my eyes aswell. I don't really have a suggestion but practice hitting slower with your eyes open. I'll have to think about to lol
Ive been in the exact same predicament. I've learnt how to read my setters movements really well. If they're off the net they set higher, if they're late they set faster. It was frustrating 🤣 but I learnt a valuable lesson. How to read and predict my setter
I’m a 52yo newbie playing socially with a bunch of other learners (and a few show offs who take pity on us) so nobody has a clue where the sets are going. I’m just happy to hit the damn ball at the moment.
hey coach, I have this problem where I mess up my tempo of my approach, I miss a step, I jump early, I don't contact the ball, and all of that. it feels like im in a hurry but im actually not. do u have any tips to improve?
Record you self like I did in this video. Slow it down and start writing down where or when your spike approach start to break down. Video is the best!

same bro lets keep grinding together, been playing for 4-5 months now and im already feeling alot better from when i started
My coordination has definitely improved in these 2 months. It is also a lot easier when you get to practice with the same setter

A question When do you know when it's gonna be a high set or a quickset?
That’s a question for ur setter
my approach was the only thing i needed to improve

0:22 i lost it here
How tall are you coach sir
Any advice on how to do a proper spike when I struggle to jump (Bad joint problems) I am tall though (6 3 with shoes almost 6 4)
I just realised this is the gap and thats a bears team shirt which is the team we lost to 😂
Up the bears 🐻
Only thing about your middle hit tho is that you need to be up there before the ball is set if your hitting a one
I'd consider that a faster tempo.
0:21 woooo😂😂

Thanks 🙏
just curious how tall are you? and what is your vertical?

do the same thing for 3 step?
You need to do a summer camp
That would be so much fun! 😍
Can you show a woman volleyball player completing these technique as well? Since women move their body differently than men.
Are you at kelvin grove
yeah but what if you start your approach when the ball is on air {after the setter touches it}
What do you think would happen 🤔
