You bring up an excellent method of practicing and understanding the timing of the approach with different sets, but in game the four step approach has a very simple flaw - it's slower; the extra step takes more time, which you might not have in game, especially if you're relatively inexperienced (like me) and don't always transition fast enough from the block or the receive. Also, every set is a bit different, so you do need to change speed and rhythm of your steps.
That being said, i do think this is a brilliant video, and would definitely sub to the channel.

Ive been in the exact same predicament. I've learnt how to read my setters movements really well. If they're off the net they set higher, if they're late they set faster.
It was frustrating 🤣 but I learnt a valuable lesson. How to read and predict my setter

I’m a 52yo newbie playing socially with a bunch of other learners (and a few show offs who take pity on us) so nobody has a clue where the sets are going. I’m just happy to hit the damn ball at the moment.

Record you self like I did in this video. Slow it down and start writing down where or when your spike approach start to break down.
      Video is the best!

Can you show a woman volleyball player completing these technique as well? Since women move their body differently than men.
