Jake, you won't believe it. My father purchased new in 1957 a 57 Fairlane 500 Convertible , black and white two tone. That's the car he dated my mom with. We still have pics of it. You have a cool car. Good luck with it.

Heads up if you replace the windshield, the 4 door windshield is about an inch taller than the 2 door windshield. A friend of mine is into the 57 Fords and we discovered that trying to swap windshields between a 2 door donor and a 4 door car.
These 1957 Fords were about the first American cars I'd ever seen as a child. I was enamoured with them then...I'm enamoured with this one now. What a beauty! Enjoy the living heck out of it!
I had a '57 Ford with a 272 and automatic. Those transmissions are actually 3 speeds. In Drive, it starts in 2nd gear. In the L position it starts in 1st. You can actually take off in L, wind it out, then shift into Drive, then as soon as it shifts pull it back down to L, and it will stay in 2nd until you move to Drive and shift to 3rd gear.
RE PARTS, hey Jake, I think the parts that have a plate with a rod sticking out are sun visor brackets (judging from your video)... btw sorry if I'm the millionth person to say that. Awesome vids
I spotted a 57 Ford on a trailer heading to a neighborhood away when I was around 14. I found the guy who bought it. He said "I'm going to fix it up". A year later it was a show car
Don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but i think those 2 "unknown" white triangular pieces (if that's what you were talking about) are brackets for sun visors. If there's no headliner it makes sense that they were kept. If that's the objects you were speaking ofin the pile of extra bits and pieces.
I've had 2 old Fords. My first was a 79 LTD Landau 5.0 motor. It jumped time (stupid plastic cam gear...). I refreshed the motor and replaced the cam. It wiped a cam lobe and I had to tear it apart again and fix it. 😂 I sold that car earlier in 2023 andthis year I bought a 71 LTD Convertible with the Ford 400. That motor is out for a complete rebuild (I'm doing it minus the machine work). I'll be putting it back together through the end of this year.
In 1957, we were in NYC, about to emigrate to England. My dad rented a Fairlane 500 to drive our cases to the port. Back in San Francisco, we'd had a Renault 4CV and then an aluminum-bodied Panhard Dyna. I remember being mesmerized by the Galaxy's size, especially the enormous steering wheel.
We restore and collect classic fords. If there is anything we can do as far as advice please don’t hesitate to ask. You have a great car, and we are glad to help keeping one on the road.
Another thing that will greatly help drivability would be to put on a 4 barrel carburetor, probably 600 cfm with electric choke and vacuum secondaries. It would be much more tunable and forgiving throughout the rev range and power demands.

It had a 312 4 barrel and FX tranny, we added outside oilers. It was pretty quick as I found out try to beat a 63 409 chev I took him off the line by a good car length. Doeskin tan and white. Good luck with this one. We had 57 T Bird full disc on it and 57 Pontiac fender ornaments.
My father had this exact year in blue... After doing some repairs with his uncle, they took a test drive, and the hood decided to unlatch and wrap itself around the windshield. After that, he had a Blue 1957 Fairlane with a red hood. But after seeing the hood open forward, maybe it wasn't a 500.
Right on, neat old car. Everybody dogs on four doors but that's a really good looking rig and tons less expensive than a two-door would be. It’s surprisingly stylish and cool looking for a 4-door. That’s gotta be the original 4-door coupe. I never owned a generator car, but had a lot of 60’s & 70’s Fords that look very similar under the hood. My favorite Fairlane is the 1967 2-door fastback. It looks fast standing still. Nice old Ford. Unless the trans has been swapped, it would be a 3 speed dual range Fordomatic. 2-3 in drive and 1-2-3 if you fully depress the pedal or shift into L to start then back to D. The 2 speed Fordomatics didn't come until 1959. The old Y blocks are pretty easy to work on. I think you'll have a fun time with it.
Dad sold Fords from 1957 to 1968 and Mom's 1958 Fairlane was one of her favorites. It eventually became my brother's college car and that thing just ran and ran. I saw it once after he sold it and I wish I had inquired if they would sell.

Buy a set of freeze plugs amd a block heater. After removing old freeze plugs you will neet a cut up coat hanger which you can reconfigure [non-bluetooth] to fit inside the now open large holes in the block and ream out the rust sediment with coat hanger and garden hose to allow water and coolant [rustprooofing] to actually surround the cooling jackets around the cylinders to absorb heat for the first time in 50 years. Install new freeze plugs and and block heater [optional depending on location] and the engine can cool itself properly..
My grandpa had a 57 convertable top fairlane. One thing I remember is he always used a "lead additive" mixed in the fuel. Something about valve seats maybe? I don't remember.
For improved reliabilty give it a new mechanical fuel pump[ engine block, lobe on camshaft drives the fuel pump, install when fuel pump drive arm is on base circle of cam, not on the lobe or you will have trouble bolting in the fuel pump to block. A fresh, or more recent diaphragm in the fuel pump will improve reliability, unless it vapour locks, which is another reason to go with electric LOW PRESSURE fuel pump instead.

That car is gorgeous. Too bad it diesnt have the optional reverse lamps in the middle of the brake light lenses. When i was a kid, a neighbour had a 57 Fairlane 500 in black and light cream. The dark blue metallica paint was a factory colour, evennif not original to the car. I do love the 57 Ford much more than the 57 Bel Air another neighbour owned. Making these cars run right is not that difficult. If you are going to drive it a lot I would update the brakes to a dual system and add vacuum assist. Not all that difficult to accomplish. I'm sure you will get the old girl running right. I learned how to drive on a 72 Dodge Dart with 4 wheel unassisted drum brakes. My first car, a 69 Acadian, had the factory unassisted 4 wheel drum brakes as well as the factory installed bias ply tires that were badly flat spotted. Have fun. Can't wait to see more of it. Watching you drive, that engine is way down on get up and go. Keep in mind that by 57 the Interstste Highway System was being built. Even the base "Mileage Maker Six" was able to keep up with traffic when the soeed limit was 70 mph. If i were keeping it, the nonpriginal engine and transmission would be out. A late 80s 351 in Panther tune would go in. 215 net horsepower and 390 lb/ft of torque is lovely. Backed up by mechsnical AOD, and you get highway mikeage that will scare you the right exhsust and intake/carb combo and you could see 35 miles to the US gallon. Beause of the optional safety package, mounts for lap belts all the way round are likely built in the car. There won't be shoulder belt mounts. Volvo had yet to invent the 3 point belt system. Reinforcement fir mounts for them are easy to add with the headlining out. Glad the ribs fkr the headliner are there. That helps.
Oh did you know the 57Ford outsold the 57Chevy? You can do a one wire gm alternator conversion much cheaper.than what was quoted . Check around old hot riders or with the wizards tractor buddy they might have a used one to save money. Also check with John Ross he had an aftermarket full injection system that would go nice on your y block . Remember to put zink additives in your oil when you change it, to protect your cam and lifters. Use ethanol free gas in it. The alcohol will eat up your old tank and lines. This is so much more my style than a perpetually broken bmw( bust out my wallet again)
Ordered a 1 wire alternator and the adapter bracket a few days ago. Stoked to put it in along with a PCV conversion so I don't smoke out every intersection I pull up to!

That helps.
Looks like that push rod has Peyronie's disease. I bet they did that with the heater hoses to keep the length to hook it back up in the future.
Nice car Jake
The smooth-face wheel covers are '56 Ford. The dog dish cap is '52-54. Did you know that the '57 Ford outsold Chevy that year by 7200 cars?
i believe they used a road draft tubw instead of a pcv, pcvs came later
Stoked to put it in along with a PCV conversion so I don't smoke out every intersection I pull up to!
and don’t forget to use lead substitute in your gas.
That nasty stuff in the coolant overflow tank is Stop-leak, (and not the good stuff like Bars).
