If you need any help or have questions feel free to hit me up. I have one and actually do some work on my own. It is actually not terrible like the world makes it. The shifter needs to be taken apart. The T-handle actually is responsible for breaking the plastic on the shifter tip due to the stress and brittle plastic. I replaced my shifter handle with a cayenne one. Less stress on the plastic. Purist don't like it but I do for reliability as you can see that will happen.

My i3 and Insight are both examples of engineers getting carte blanche and this Phaeton is no different and absolutely chock full of engineering decisions that definitely made a ton of sense in the mind of the engineer who conceptualized them, perhaps less sense as a very used car 21 years later.

@@100PercentJake Problem is, those cars don't have the presence as luxury models have that have similiar issues, so people are less inclined to put big money into it. I doubt that people who bought a new 7-series or a s-class and people who bought a new phaeton, were willing to put the same amount into repair, less so when they buy it second-hand.

It pains me to see all the silly comments questioning previous owners gender... It doesn't really matter, and clearly the person is a car enthusiast. Very knowledgeable about the engineering aspects of phaeton, and it brings me to my point: Phaetons were/are owned by 2 groups of people: the engineering nerd who is very oftten an interesting person and character, and then the dull business people who got it because it's so understated being a VW. There is no in-between, owners are either very interesting people, or completely dull.

It's acting like the tiptronic board is dead. If you REALLY need to move her, there should be a parking pin release under the drivers floor mat. This is for emergency towing when the trans won't shift out of park.

If this is real then you're a lifesaver.
Thing is... the tiptronic board doesn't have any electronics on it. At least, nothing communication related. It's just some mosfets and hall sensors, and it's making the lights change correctly when I slide the magnetic bar along it, so if there's a communication issue then it's with whatever module that sensor board is actually plugged into.

About 3,200 were imported into North America. 157 were how many of the V8 4 seaters were imported. My Maroney sticker listed it at $81,000 in 2005. • @100PercentJake

Ozone machine is out there right now. Too long and you risk degrading leathers and plastics, and causing various materials to start offgassing leading to some potentially horrible lingering smells. 1hr of ozone, let the car sit for a while, air out, then deep clean the interior and do another hour of ozone generator once it's done. Should neutralize the mold, then I can clean it, then the second round will ensure anything I missed stays inert.

I always wondered about your opinion on Phaeton seats. I am much more likely to trust your opinion on it, especially when it comes to back pain.
You see, I am currently sitting in a Phaeton passenger seat that I turned into an office chair. I've spent years sitting in it at this point and I wondered if it could've been detrimental.
(looked for a manual cloth seat for a long time - decided I wanted a ventilated seat; heard how the A8 seats only need 12V to run all the motors and the memory - found a cheap Phaeton seat with a seller willing to deliver; replaced the fans with Silverstone ones with pots for speed control - no need to figure out the seat heating if I'm inside my heated office)

Absolutely phenomenal automobile, might I recommend filling it with approximately two tons of sand?

I actually really like this car. But would only get the v8. The 4.2 is pretty good. Car rides really smooth and nice. WHEN it's running lol. Alot of headaches

Brake lights.... are they on when you press the brake? If not, the brake interlock may not be activating.

In relation to a V12 S-class or 7-series from the same era, the Phaeton is more or less reliable, if that word can be used at all?😅

Isn’t there a place on the console where you can insert a pen to release the shift lock.
